Usual ad-hoc snippets of commentary:

Little Prince is the most meretricious piece of garbage I have ever read in my life. Good for use in hooking "sensitive" new-age chicks who want to appear like there are things more important than emotional instability, shopping, and raving over guys' new car body-kits/credit cards/heaps of flowers, etc....

a damning indictment of translations is Asiapac's bastardization of jin yong's condor heroes series. i mean, "The Mighty Snap"?

Loom's theme is a fairly good rearrangement of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.

i did some checking - the weirdzo planets you got are from the Solarian mythos, i think. some freaky european cult that was related to the solar temple people(who killed Grace Kelly)

you know, during hari raya, what happens if you're a muslim posted in antarctica right now? if you must fast from sunrise to sunset, what the hell do you do if the sun is in the sky for *6 months*(!). and before you ask, the pattern depends on where you are, not some standardised clock. muslims in northern hemispheres now enjoy a much longer night as it is winter. although if you're in the arctic, you have it set - can gorge for that six-month long night on walrus fat....

asian prince has taken on a hideous life of its own - there's something so awful and terrible about that site that you can't tear your eyes away from it. sort of like
Para Para. a friend of mine said, and i quote: "the first time i saw para para machines at the arcade in bugis, it wasn't just the gyrating hand and foot movements of the gaudily dressed lian or her gaudily dressed beng opponent.. it was the six or seven other gaudily dressed(for clubbing, almost) onlookers behind them imitating their every move in perfect rhythm that caused me to stare in horrified fascination. eventually, i managed to tear my gaze away before my bones liquefied entirely... I can gouge out my eyes, but I can never gouge out the memory."

you know, i wonder how many freaks are using the online rgs yearbook now to hunt down the lian of their choice?

"I feel sorry for myself, because no one else is(sorry for me)" is from an old movie. one of those Golden Age hollywood bridging between technicolor and b&w movies.

i heard that invigilators need the scripts back, in case someone tries to falsify answers and slip them into the stack before marking - although they're marked abroad, so i have no idea how it's feasible

other nostalgic childhood games - the throwing little sack thingies you catch on your palm and back of hand, aeroplane/tank cards where you compare stats(someone always got the SR-71 *grumbles*), animal chess(elephant kills anything except mouse), "surround"(there wasn't a name for it, but you used "X"s and "O"s to draw cages around the other person's position - remarkably related to weiqi), those pencil sliding games where you drew tanks/guns/planes and slid the pencil along the paper to trace the path of the bullet or the movement of the vehicle(2B staedtler pencils being the weapons of choice), pencilboxes with six or seven buttons that had multiple pop-ups(i never got one - that's why i'm so fucked up, i think)... the list goes on, as i was just reading a nostalgia fight at: http://www.electricferret.com/fights/issue_153.htm

the malaysian king was at Mount E. Hospital a week before he died. singaporean treatment, followed by total renal failure. MUST I SPELL IT OUT, FOLKS?

you forgot to mention that i think you could've been a dominican inqiuisitor in another life, burning witches at the stake, what with your distaste for women.
[Ed: Damning 'Hot Shorts' and 'Hot Socks' does not mean misogny :) 'Hot Socks' in men suck too, and screwed up stuff *can* be fun {notice caveat}]

battlerealms iz goot. civ 3 is also goot. the christmas season is coming up with a plethora of good games. after i finish this blog, i'm heading over to a friend's place
for an extended playing of metal gear solid 2. screw my CFA exams!

during my tenure in singapore, i shopped for games at two places - microtrend at katong shopping center, and Tiny(which lasted from 1995-1999). i remember carting home about 24 discs to install wing commander 2, the add-on packs, AND the sound-packs. those were the days. *nostalgically*. and back then, the pirates would include full manuals as well - these days they can't be bothered for the most part. damn shoddy quality control. (although my friend tells me that the Penang pirates not only still consistently produce good quality cd-label stamps that don't look like someone photocopied the box image and pasted it on the CD, but they still include booklet manuals in the jewel cases or, as is more the case, the cd sleeves. these days, some shops even sell BURNED cds as opposed to stamps. cheap bastards.). anyway, microtrend was brilliant - it had a catalogue of games dating back to the original king quest, which they kept ON FILE, they had the most comprehensive catalogue of pirated manuals ever for pre-CD games(back when i still collected them) - and the aunty was very nice about lettnig us know when raids were forthcoming so we could help her clear stock at discount prices. damned Berne convention. not like I signed the WTO agreement on intellectual property.

why am i ranting so long? because it's better than studying, and i'm waiting for my friend to get his car so i can go to his house and cart-off some anime, games, and watch Grand Theft Auto 3 and MGS2.

come to think of it, where the hell *is* Rainier...

The Bad joke award goes to Patch (P**** Andrew Tan C*** H****) for this:
Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? Who knows? Who cares?

FSOH!

And he also says, about Jade:
well it was still open about 2 days back.

Wah.

I'm thinking of shelling out (or getting my father to shell out) $800-$1200 for an upgrade to my 400Mhz thingies. It will apparently buy me nice stuff, like a 1.6Ghz Processor, 256MB SD-133 RAM, a SB Live! Value and a GeForce 2.

Problem is, I'll be enslaved at most 15 days after the upgrade, and assuming I don't get detention, I'll only be back during weekends.

The previously named one also recommended that I "wait 1 month after you go in, then. unless you plan to play like there's no tomorrow in the 15 days." because "i suggest you wait another month or so until the MPC of your abstinence is equal to the MPB of the geforce2. prices are falling for it."
The "clapping hand" game isn't a male thing. Similar proportions of girls do it, albeit with loud squeals and shrieks

FBT shorts are actually pretty comfortable and wick away sweat.

I played Loom- quite interesting and novel- was a little scared by it though because of the scary pictures of the bad guys swooping down with scythes
If you played it at expert level you were supposed to be treated to a special animation in the middle. After completing it once on beginner's level i tried it at expert level but didn't get the easter egg!
Also, I never got to learn the spell/song thing to summon a fairy (although it was mentioned in the manual). Hmm.

Will trust xephyris' recommendation and try out battlerealms after A's

On self-pity (though i'm not in a position to hold a prolonged theological argument):
"Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."- Matthew 8:20

The Tea Tree - Group Blog V 1 --- Where deprived schoolgirls, sucked into the world of Anime, Yaoi, Tentacles and what not engage in search engine baiting with such terms as:

*censored*

And which comes up on searches like "longest penis on net ", "tallest man penis" and "blog penis" (penis envy?), "cockroach tatto pictures" (wth) and "Explicit Yaoi pictures " (Ooo).

Eugh. And I thought Yaoi Girl was bad enough. :)

21 pages of 2000 scanned today! Wow.

I've heard, from various sources, that Jade House Computer has closed down. The horror! In operation since 1995 (at least), this business has always been the haunt of Bishan schoolboys. Twas the day late in 1996, when Melvin Tay brought me there. He later claimed that he got discounts by giving the man... favours. Right. At that time, CDs cost $15. Apparently the year before they had been $20. Prices went steadily down every few times I went there (buying a whole lot of stuff I never used, or never used much). $12... $10... $8... $6. The cheapest CSs in Singapore! And they used to have floppy games too, with such gems as Dark Sun II : Wake of the Ravager (Never got down to playing it - I loved Dark Sun : Shattered Lands actually, but somehow the sequel didn't seem so good, or maybe I was lazy to play it). Then they started selling off the original floppies instead of copying them for customers. Well, now we have the Internet, though many abandonware sites are being shut down (and the original companies don't even sell the games anymore, for Pete's sake!). The old compilations also were sold there. King of Games [where Tim The Great's primary title comes from!] 1/2 (The ultimate collection of old games!), Best Game II (sic), with more fun stuff, Best Games III (also released under the title King of Games V). And then the Best Games series deteriorated. Best Games IV looked terrible, so I never bought it. King of Games stayed good for a while... VI and VII. Then it deteriorated too. Or maybe games became too big, and so most of the games there became CD-rips [eugh] and the number of games on each CD decreased too! Their compilations became few and far between towards the end of my patronage. How convenient - you could then buy the full-CD versions from them.

We had always thought that the police had an agreement of sorts with the proprietor ('Peter'). "Even the police commissioner's son goes there". It even expanded to 2 units in late 1999 or early 2000, business was that good. Once, I was there and this guy asked, "What are you doing here?", evidently asking me what I was doing in a place with porn on some of the games compilations. Tim said I should've asked back, "What are *you* doing here?". Well, it survived a good 4-5 years, a rather long time for this sort of establishment. Wonder if I'll ever see Peter, Jasmine (his wife) or the pimply guy again.

Maybe I'll call them :).

More weird Ma-laysia stories:
KOTA BARU (Kelantan) - The lack of entertainment outlets and too many heavy political talks may be the reason behind the rising incidence of incest in opposition Parti Islam-led Kelantan, says the Parliamentary Secretary in the Prime Minister's Department. Datuk Noh Omar said although night entertainment spots such as discos were banned, social ills such as incest were still on the rise. 'Perhaps the ceramahs are too heavy and the men become highly intense,' he told reporters yesterday. However, he added, 'the important issue here is awareness. This is a
social problem and we need to be more pro-active'. Earlier, in response to a question in Parliament, he said the number of incest cases in Kelantan had increased from three in 1999 to four in 2000 and nine in 2001, malaysiakini.com reported.

The late king of Ma-laysia married his 4th wife when she was a 19 year-old college student, and he over 60. Ahem.

This sucks. That sucks. Sh*t happens.
This angst was brought to you by the letter A, N, G, and the phrase STfu.

There. Enough angst to last our webboard for a few millenia. Now, back to rambling, random posts, and boliao stuff.

Fwah, proxomitron "disables" the post and publish button. It's still a great proggie though. Ads on the Internet are evil. I can't stress that enough. [Deep voice]EVVVVVIIILLLL.[End Deep Voice, coughcoughcough]. Here it is, for all of you who still suffer daily from the injustice of seeing popups, blinking ads, annoying javascript scrollers, etc.
The Proxomitron

Forgot what I was going to blog. Fweh. Going to recommend a nice song - Loom's main theme. Loom was this old musical game by Lucasarts. Recently, my friend sent me the main theme, and it's pretty nice. Instrumental, and strings, though, so it's not for everybody. Ok, I'm off now. My brain's half dead...
Ah, now I remember. This was going to be a game recommedation - the game I'm currently engrossed with right now is BattleRealms. It's a real time strategy game set in feudal Japan (well... sort of.) With 4 uniquely different clans to play, an engrossing single playing campaign, and brilliant multiplayer, it's too good to pass up. Have a look see, and hopefully, I'll have more opponents to conquest when I go onto gamespy.
Battlerealms

Next post I'll do a more detailed review as well as something on Hundred Swords, another RTS, this time by Smilebit, a division of SEGA.
For some reason, I'm talking to people about the A03 look again. Maybe it is true (God forbid) that I have a "widely known fondness... for the female Geographers." Gah. Not that I know many of them anyway. Ugh, Screwed Up Girl's going to A03 next year. I'm ruined!

Michael is quite A03-ish, and I think he'd take that as a compliment. Anyway he's just an A03 person who doesn't take lit.

What is it with Geog that makes people morph into A03-ers? And no, it's not an Arts thing. I've seen A01C-E (lecture), and they can't compare to A03.

This must make me sound really voyeuristic. Houdini and Red Jacket don't get so much attention. Ah well.

Just so I don't have to retype it everytime I make A03 look references to people, some criteria for the "A03 look" (A03A-ers don't count):

- Female (though some males qualify too. Then again, outside A03A, there are like 5 A03 males and I know 3 of them)

- Long, dyed hair. Shoulder length or below preferably. Hair must be highlighted or worse, with a brownish or worse colour (BSB has purplish tinted hair, I suspect)

- Flesh Parade. It helps if you're a Flesh Parader.

- Hot Socks / Hot Shorts (the latter is for out of school wear, so it's just a speculation)

- Doing what gives BSB the name BSB. (Ask Jianwen)

- The look in the eyes and the stance and mien. Ditto.

Probably a few more, but this is the general idea. Tis hard to quantify. "The A03 Manifesto".

Someone says that in her time (1988-1989) A03 had a lot of sluttish girls.

My associate's comment: "you seem to have a distinct mortification for sexuality - a quality shared by quite a few serial killers... i was reading through your blog - and a recurrent theme in our conversations and in your epistlery - there's a not-so-subtle misogyny and resentment of female sexuality - the abhorrence of "flesh parades" and "hot pants", the general veneer of distaste for anything that heightens adolescent sexual attractivenes... the proliferation of calling people by these little soubriquets
it's vaguely schizo - you're disssociating yourself from these people, giving them conceptual labels.

might i add how psychopathic it is to pick up scrunchies and hairbands..."

How worrying :)

Friend, "as a matter of fact.. everyone seems to be intriguing to you.. why dun you focus on some j1 class instead.."

Another, "i wonder how u manage to come up with so much stuff like this.. i mean u haf list after list of weird ppl, and what not"

There's an S01 look also, but everyone knows about that :)

Oops, RJ teachers are reading this. Err. Falalala. Gobbledy-gock. Lorum ipsum. How does that one go. Heck.
Ooo, apparently people have been reading this blog. I was asked to bring the paper that I took home last week back, because they need it. Thus are the perils of writing on the web. Maybe that's where all the hits are coming from - RJ teachers monitoring my site to see if I write anything bad!

The Indian invigilator, the one who goes on stage [and reminds me and other people of Ms Santha, though not in the temperament], is really quite grumpy. I wonder how those who are in the Hall all the time stand it. She got upset when she let us go to the toilet in between Economics 1 and 2, and we made some noise. Isn't it supposed to be a break? Maybe she's sullen because she had something planned this holiday. Oh well.

Xiaoshi - "She's a woman". That didn't really make sense. Anyway apparently the invigilators come from SAJC. Ooo. One of them has dyed hair. Tut tut.

Hrm, I want to come back in 9 years time, then we'll see XXX T-Shirts on the student leadership. And the cheer will go up to "Thirty!"

And I found a J1 councillor who looks like a Horse! Horse'd be proud. "I think so too" - Deqi

For probably one of the few times in RJC, Foreign Blood tied her hair today. In all the RGS yearbook pictures, she looks really weird with tied up hair, probably because she was forced to then.

Reactions to my haircut - most people were amused or intrigued. Ah well.

I don't understand these stupid male games. The one where you try to slap the other's hands. You both put palm to palm and then take turns to slap the other's hands or to feint, and the loser (withdrawing on a feint) gets his hands slapped. Or something. Zhongyong and Daniel were playing it in a vain attempt to prepare for Maths S (Not that those a table away were doing better. They were playing the Primary School card game which has cards with Cartoon Mines, Miners, Generals, Marshals and Corporals on them, in vibrant colour). Then again, I don't understand these stupid female games too.

And I saw a blue tinsel handphone cover, on Puppy's handphone. And I thought I'd seen it all.

Today is the last day I wear this particular set of Uniform. 3 days more of examinations, and 3 more uniforms. I doubt any present J0s or J1s will want to buy them, since they're so thin (I blame the faulty washing machine which rinses clothes 4 (?) times) and anyway I wonder who is the same size. And they're changing uniforms next year anyway.

"If you don't feel sorry for yourself, who will?"
I wonder if that has been thought of by anyone yet. It's quite a good motto, actually :) A search on Google doesn't register any hits.

I am very tempted to post an angsty post right now.

*Part of angsty post snipped. Muahahahaha.*

The last time my parents saw my homepage (sometime in 1999), they were shocked because I was allegedly defaming my teachers by "highlighting their English mistakes" and "showing their bad sides", and they forced me to take down Quotes (though it eventually returned in the present form of Improve Your English).

*More of angsty post snipped. Teeheeheeheehee.*

At the start of this year, I got a survey form from the FAT club, and it had questions like "do you eat when you're depressed". I suppose they might want us to engage in more healthful destressing activities, like sex, booze and drugs, slashing/cutting ourselves (as many girls do), anorexia/bulimia or even better yet, shouting at others or making people's lives more miserable, thereby dispersing our stress.

Crys' guide to angsty posts:
you must er. change your theme to black bg with dark grey/maroon words in verdana with convenient bloodspatters here and there and angst a bit.

and a tiny font size please... people would actually take time to read it if it was big enough, and we wouldn't want that would we.

it's common-angst, which i'm fine with. it's cap-angst that ppisses me off :)... but yours is plain angst, like " this sucks that sucks"

not stuff like "i feel like they are vacuum cleaners sucking up my soul and leaving a black hole, make me feel like a mole, hungry and col(e)d." oh fine i can't common-angst very well.

and where did you find this asian princes thing from? it's even grosser than the porn i've been tricked into visiting
Too bad Sanje didn't get through to the finals of Talentime with his Russian-Bollywood number. Very shiny outfit though. And I got to see who Anil is!

Fanmail about RGS Yearbook project:
"I LOVE U....I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIND SOMEONE SINCE JUNE!!!!!!

u n0e....ure a life-saver! :-P"

Tay Weeyang:
"why dun you create a pdf version of the book and upload it..."
!@#$%^&*(). I'm boliao, but not that boliao. Anyway, my time will be better spent scanning 2000. And negotiating with my source for an exclusive on 2001 :0

Work on 2001 has begun!

I want an Asian Prince T-Shirt!

Desktop Theme available too.

In NTUC Bukit Ho Swee today, I saw:

Gillette for Women
Venus
Stay Smoother Longer
Reveal The Goddess In You

This issue isn't a peeve of mine, but interestingly, they used a small (even by Asian standards) woman. Perhaps this means that advertising will no longer project an unrealistic image of humans!

At one point, I actually wanted to buy a shaver refill pack for 2 people who shall not be named, but it was too expensive at ~$7.

And as if semi-tasteless Christmas music (5 weeks from Christmas) was not bad enough, there was this crazy Hari Raya card. It cost $4.50, and kept playing the song 'Selamat Hari Raya', driving everyone crazy. It refused to stop, so I buried it under a stack of envelopes, and it was silenced. Apparently when the electrical contact breaks, it will sound.

My mother tried to get me to cut my hair again, so I walked back from the barber's where they dropped me. I think I will ask Killer how to grow long hair. Maybe she can give me her hair clips. Haha.

Might as well learn Old Egyptian and read the Book of the Dead.

The Little Prince - found by Tim.

He also says he used to play the same Wrestlemania game, and do 24 hit combos. And he tells us that FBT stands for "FootBall Thai". Ooo.

There's this red faced Indian guy in 2S06D (?). Very red faced. It looks like he was perpetually drunk. And I saw someone with a thinner shirt than some of those I have.

Triplet now has long hair! So she doesn't look so much like the other two anymore. Many people grow long hair in JC. it must be because they don't like being restricted to black hair accessories.

Joel played us the Raffles School Song handphone ring tone he composed. With trills. Ooo. But if he plays it in school, ACJC will start rioting...

Xephyris has found a funny web comic about vampires - http://projectkooky.com/dylan/biteme/.

It gets funnier as it goes along :)

11:23PM - finally opened my "Stewed Pork Chop Instant Noodles". They're nice, but the 'dehydrated vegetables' included Chilli. Ugh. Sister likes them too, so does Tim The Great, who's tried them before. Maybe we shall buy some and give them out on Orchard Road.
Message from qiying- esp. for pple without anything to do sunday night:
"Leonids Meteor Storm
Date: 19th November (Monday)
Peak Time: 2.13am (as in Sunday night, monday morning..hehe~=) )
Place: juz look up from your house.. look towards the north east and be patient..
What: If you're lucky, you'll actually see about 2 meteors a second.. making it look a bit like rain. this happens very rarely.. cos its usually about 15 an hour."

Little prince is cute. Try reading it in french. But then you'd have to learn french first. (disgruntled sound) Though its over-merchandised like so much of bestselling children's fiction- the other day I saw a computer game based on it.
Other books to read in original language: Sophie's world, Scripture, Gao Xingjian's Soul Mountain, Beowulf (btw came across an alleged English translation of it by Wodehouse in Arete- hilarious), Inferno

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them

Yay, my sister did some stitching, and Blue Bear's almost the same. There was this piece of the long plastic that was sticking out, so it was stitched such that it was secured to the paw but some of it still stuck out.

My mother 'cleaned up' my desk recently, and as is always the case, things went missing. Specifically, the scrunchie and the hairband that I picked up in school a few months (has it been all that long?) ago. I don't mind the loss of the former, because it was torn, but the latter was nice. She always rearranges things and then when I can't find them, she says "don't know".

Xephyris, look on the bright side - you can now use all the SNK roms. Or maybe someone will start a fan project to make sequels to SNK games. Like the "The Darkest Day Expansion For Baldur's Gate II".

I suck at fighting games. The only one which I was good at was WWF Wrestlemania, made in 1994 by Acclaim (I think), a conversion of an arcade game and with 8 characters - Doink the Clown, the Undertaker, Yokozuna, Razor Ramon, Shawn Michaels, Bam Bam Bigelow, Lex Luger and Bret the "Hitman" Hart. I actually was pretty good at it - came from lots of practice with Lin Yucheng when we were still living in the same estate and he didn't call himself Yucheng, Lin or YuCheng. *wistful*

Tim recommended 'the Little Prince', which derides grown-ups. If you are free, go and read it.

"The Little Prince is a book written by the French author, journalist, and pilot, Antoine de Saint-Exupry. It was written in 1943, one year before his death. It is the most well-known of his novels. From the outside it appears to be a simple children's tale. The Little Prince is actually a profound and deeply moving book written in riddles and laced with philosophy and poetic metaphors. The book has been translated into many languages from the original French version. It was also made into a play and a movie, and the children's cable channel Nickelodeon in America ran a cartoon series in the mid-80s based upon the prince, his rose, and his adventures."

It's available on Palmgear, but I doubt many people will have a Palm / want to read it on one. Doesn't seem to be available on Project Gutenberg.

Geraldine has been corrupted by MSN Explorer. "well...I want my comp to look beautiful". Sigh.

Little Brown Bear has been missing for a long time. I suspect my brother-in-law spirited him away, but he denies it.

Anti-inspirational message (sorta) of the post:
"The early bird may get the worm, but it's the second mouse gets the cheese"
A sad day came upon us just as the A levels started - SNK has declared complete, total, and utter bankruptcy and has completely folded. Not even any more Pachinko games (which they were making after Aruze, curse their black hearts, bought SNK the first time they filed for bankruptcy.)

SNK died because of a mix of bad marketing strategy (although they did squeeze every last bit out of the Neogeo... a dead horse is still a dead horse, no matter how far you can kick it :P) and poor business decisions, as well as rapid improvements in terms on arcade hardware being made by other companies. When Capcom came up with CPS-3, SNK was still using the "GIGA-Power" MVS (which wasn't really GIGA at all, but had a hardware cartridge memory limit of about 80 megabytes... or about 700 megabits. That's somewhat similar to the Nintendo 64's cartridge hardware limits. Cartridges cost a lot.)

(Neogeo CDs made things cheaper, but not by very much. And the load times were long, to say the least. Almost long enough to cause screen burn-in, and that hopping monkey doesn't help, much.)

The Neogeo 64 failed miserably. It has graphics capabilities on par with early capcom ZN models. (SF EX 1, anyone?) Sadly, Samurai Shodown 64 was on it, which meant that almost no one outside of Japan got to play it (I've only managed to find it in one arcade in Singapore, about 4 years ago.)

However, SNK had a history of listening to what their fans want. The King of Fighters 97 roster was created completely based on Fan feedback. Almost no other company I know of makes games 100% based on what their fans want. Thanks, SNK, for making such great games over the years. You'll live on in our memories. Hontou ni arigatou gozaimashita.

P/s: Reading books on your PC will kill your eyes. I finished Neuromancer, but not before my eyes were red, bloodshot, and had images of Metapad burned into the retina.

Ebooks are fun. Get a LCD monitor, anti-aliased font enabled reader (eg Microsoft Reader) and read.

You actually read all 4 books on a computer monitor? Well done! I prefer to read them on my Palm, then I can lie in bed and read.

Aha. 1999 is done! Yes, after so long, much blustering and doubt about whether I would be able to tenaciously hold on to the end - I have. But the end is the beginning is the end. 2000 looms ahead.

Florida's Natural is no longer Florida's. Now they use California oranges. Rather like Commonwealth Secondary being in Jurong.

For the first time, yesterday I heard, on the BBC, an American. How rare. An American woman reading the news.

Jerry's, a place in Jalan Kayu I went to for dinner yesterday, is perhaps the only place in Singapore which serves Dr Pepper - the most disgusting drink on earth, beating even F&N Fruitade. I had heard about it and in Hawaii in 1999, I bought a can. I don't think I took more then 2 sips.

At the aforementioned place was this 6-7 year old girl in a midriff baring tank top. Tut tut.

I am presently rather distressed and mortified. My Blue Teddy bear, imaginatively called 'Blue Bear', my faithful companion for the last 11 years (at least, probably more) has lost his touch, literally, having survived being put in the freezer by my [12 years older than me] Sister, thrown onto the top of air-conditioners, swung around by the arms [grasp the two arms and twirl him around], sprayed by fart gas, a nose operation, an operation to sew up his right paw after a gash appeared after washing, baldness (he has a big bald spot to the right of his belly), me cutting his stomach hair when he was small because I thought it grew and goodness knows what else.

Due to constant rubbing of the right paw, some of the clear plastic that serves as transparent support had popped up at least 11 years ago and I had grown fond of rubbing it. Sometime during my Primary School Days, I'd examined the paw closely and found that the rough feeling was due to a loop of the plastic thread or such popping out above the fur. Inexplicably, I'd cut it, which meant that it was no longer long enough to slip under my fingernails. Yesterday, while stroking his paw (as I like to do), the feeling suddenly disappeared, and constant efforts have still not managed to bring the feeling back.

*sigh*

Random thoughts for today:

Turning back to talk to my friends twice in 2 days while waiting to be dismissed, I have twice seen, not quite unspeakable sights, but (and because of) muscular thighs. No names (cos I know one and the other knows people I know).

Realised what Jet stands for while I was waiting for Economics Paper 3 to be collected. Jonah Elisah Teong yi heong ruxin - JET. Gah, why didn't I notice before? I still think she has the longest name in RJ (Do you?).

LT 2.5 is decorated with 3 balloons at each corner, on the lamps. Apparently Mr Eric Lee is holding an "A03 night". Wonder what the programme is like.

Stupid paper. But apparently other people didn't find it so hard.

How do you
- Write 10 marks on 3rd degree Price Discrimination
- talk (for 15 marks) about why Oligopoly is more common than Perfect Competition?

My A may be bye bye to me.

Why is Cloze (as in Cloze Passage) spelled "Cloze"? What the hell does it mean?

http://www.dictionary.com/cgi-bin/dict.pl?term=Cloze

cloze
adj.

Based on or being a test of reading comprehension in which the test taker is asked to supply words that have been systematically deleted from a text.

[Alteration of closure.]

Red jacket wasn't in his red jacket! I was looking around for a red jacket while waiting for papers to be collected but didn't see it. Later, I saw him at the Bus Stop opposite Ghim Moh Taxi HQ and... no jacket. Not even in his hand, or on his arm, or in his bag (he had no bag). "Maybe he recovered" - Luther

Didn't see the busker. Maybe he only comes on certain days. "He sings with a nasal voice" - Luther. But I saw 2 ACJC girls coming out of the underpass. Oh wait, that's unrelated. Nevermind.

Hot Shorts are DAMN disgusting. There was this woman in a blue top and cut-off white shorts in front, and it was revulsive. On the first escalator, she was in front, and I could see the curve of the butt cheeks (probably the 2nd time I've seen that happen, the first was during Orientation with someone's FBT shorts). I reiterate my disgust and dislike for Hot Shorts. Luckily Jet was behind her at the second escalator, so she blocked everyone's view.

Heard a beng-lian ring tone on the MRT. I heard it once before (probably more, actually). This beng was programming it for his girlfriend, then they played it back and they started nodding and shaking their heads along with the song. When I turned back today, it was an Indian man whose phone had the disgusting ringtone.

Went to Great World Crystal Jade Shanghai Restuarant (or whatever it's called) for lunch. Interesting food.

More interesting, saw this (presumably) J1 RJ girl with half-dyed (beyond 'highlighted') hair in Half U clinging onto her boyfriend's arm. Tut tut. I wonder if any 'concerned members of the public' (they *are* so pesky) will write in.

I also saw someone from the School With The Most Indecent Uniform In Singapore Bar None, and I think I've now decided that the colour and the design of the uniform are revolting (though not as bad as He2 Gu3 Zhong1 Xue2), and besides, it's too thin. And the strap was visible. Visible straps are irritating. When my sister does that I like to complain, and she'll say "none of your business". Once in a while when she does that, I'll start pulling them and letting go, and she'll shoo me off.

Som asked me how much a Harry Potter book was, and was surprised to find out that it was not $10 or so for one :) aureate, you can sell the extra book on ebay and recoup some of your loss. And check better next time :)

I didn't know about the immortality thing. I always thought it was just lead to gold. Or maybe I forgot. My wealth of history knowledge, built up since primary 1 by reading various books at the library, is eroding. Lead actually *can* be turned to gold by science now, but it costs more to make the gold than to buy the gold itself.

The paranoid guy, Steve Gibson (see some of his rants on security - http://grc.com/), has a subpixel font rendering demo on his page. Downloaded it and tried it - wow. I need to find a subpixel font rendering Document reader for my Palm IIIc. Tried Wordsmith, but the program was too big, and even in Read mode, it needed lots of free space to open a document. Even then, the subpixel font rendering was a touch irritating on the eye. Maybe I'll stick with iSilo 2.58 (small executable - 80+KB, small doc sizes - 20% smaller than Doc). But not subpixel font rendering and no auto scrolling. Let's see if MobiPocket Reader 4.1 is good.

Last Week's Mystery Pic

No, it's not a "Canadian beer TV ad," "Washington Crossing the Delaware 2.0," nor is it "what is left of the government's credibility after being railroaded into the settlement with Microsoft" as suggested by some readers. Most commented on the subject of the picture. But the interesting fact about last week's Mystery Pic is the picture itself. It's a brilliant color photograph taken in 1915! While traveling with the Tsar, Russian photographer Sergei Prokudin-Gorskii took pictures onto three separate glass plates per image that were designed to be shown in color using a slide projector he invented. Technicians recently developed a technique to scan the plates so the images could be assembled in a computer. Last week's Mystery Pic is one of dozens of breathtaking Prokudin-Gorski photographs in the collection, which is on display at the Library of Congress Web site. Congratulations to reader Geoff Washburn for being first with the right answer. Here are three more examples:

"harry potter and the philosopher's stone" - from the uk publisher
"harry potter and the sorcerer's stone" - new york publisher
learnt this the hard way; suffice to say i bought one more book from the series than i ought to, at the height of the craze. :)
Unlike other denominations, catholics take the communion materials as the blood and the body of Christ Literally- technical term is "transmutation" as the priests convert the materials. As far as I know, most other denominations use it more as a symbol. My father told me that in Chapel of the holy spirit (anglican low church in potong pasir), the pastor would have to quietly drink up the leftover wine after every communion service rather than throw it away.

I suppose wine couldn't be packaged- or the gift shop would need a license for the sale of alcoholic beverages (guffaw)
Though i have misgivings about the existence of home communion sets

First book in harry potter series is "Harry potter and the philosopher's stone" not sorcerer's stone- philosopher's stone is, historically, the material sought by alchemists. A sliver of it dissolved in water gives the draught of immorality, oops, immortality. It also turns lead into gold, when a small amt is mixed into the cauldron. Chemical "transmutation" (in the name of the pun, no offense intended)

Mats. Gah. Must be some going away present, since we're the last batch doing this syllabus.

Today it was a different guy doing the announcing, and he asked us to tear our scrap paper in half. Odd. Not that many people did so, anyway.

I want to see Elf Gone Wrong's tongue stud! Recently, her group (Puppy, Fierce Girl and her) have had a new addition to her morning gatherings.

Felicia said that she had a dream involving me last night. Apparently we (a bunch of S05A people) were out, and I started singing in this "ultra-high, Mariah Carey voice". Eeeeeee.

Argh. Yet another victim of the dearth of Internet Advertising.

UselessKnowledge.com's newsletter won't be sent out anymore - at least not for the forseeable future.

I wish I had a credit card. Then I'd register most of my shareware, and buy all sorts of weird stuff like Demotivational Posters (ooo, fun. Motivational Posters are irritating), UselessKnowledge.com Trivia God Hats (yeah, I know lots of rubbish) and paid subscriptions to various lists like 'This Is True' and the LangaList.

I was at Suntec City and there was a long queue of people on the 3rd floor. On closer inspection, it turned out to be a queue for a service. The queue ended at this large opening decorated like a cave, with a sign sayinq "Rock" on top. Apparently the hall can hold almost 2,000 people.

Going to the gift shop, I found 2 suspect items:

1. Bible action figures. There was Samson, Moses and Jesus.

2. Home communion sets. Each contained wafers & grape juice (from concentrate). Don't they have to be blessed by a priest to turn into the Blood and Body of Christ?

Suspect, very suspect.

Some people are smart and some people are very smart. Some people are lazy, and some are hardworking.

IIc? Must be some older model :) Maybe that's why it's so much cheaper than my IIIc, even with the keyboard and connectivity kit thrown in (which cost $549, though Kheng Hwa's office paid for 90% of it).

I can't remember the old name for the Harry Potter movie. Wonder if any one here will dress up as a wizard to go and watch. Kheng Hwa swung his lightsaber in the air when we went to watch the re-release of Star Wars V.
I wish i had a LCD monitor. My brother has that sony clie, which I got to play with for about 20 minutes before it went to london. Hrrmph
He had a HP palmtop in '97, and another secondhand palm before this one. Hrrrmmmph.
Saw palm IIc with portable keyboard and connectivity kit for $300 or $400 in courts advertisement. Very tempted (if i get the cash)

Here's an idea: Mediacorp is having a scriptwriting competition, deadline 30 Nov. Send in your entries! Cash prizes of over $30k and chance to see your work on TV. Organised by arts central- yeah, it sold out to popular culture long ago.

Caught 3 different trailers for Harry potter movie on Saturday morning TV. Why are there so many trailers? Why is it renamed "harry potter and the sorcerer's stone"?

Saturday, November 10, 2001

Xephyris says:

LCD monitors have almost no glare and super nice steady no flicker images *envious*.

but... but but but...

it's not bright enough for 3D gaming :) even with gamma set all the way up, sometimes.
My 3 year old monitor finally gave up the ghost Friday morning, after past troubles with the power button, and a refusal to turn off after specified intervals. The following was written in Graffiti. Consequently, among other things, gs and qs might be mixed up.

Friday:
This morning, I saw 'He With Curly Hair, Who Would Look Better If He Shaved His Moustache'. He's one of those few Asians who have curly hair - as rare as Africans who have straight hair. He looks a bit mousy, and I do think he'd look better if he shaved it. I've actually contemplated going to him and telling him that, but apparently he's quite attached to it, and Wang Shuo says, "he's very violent". Ah well. I wonder if I'll see him after this year (just like The Person Who Eats 2 Eggs Every Morning).

Chin Yung was looking at a photo book before GP!. On one page, there was a photo of him and another guy with one very obvious Flesh Parader, and 2 others who were less so. Naturally, I identified their ECA immediately. There was also a photo of him with this known-A03er, but I'd not known she was in Flesh Parade too. I wonder what proportion of A03's in Flesh Parade.

Example of the weird stories coming out of Ma-laysia (and the weird logic of some Malaysians):
a recent study by the Institute of Urology here suggests that men in Perlis may actually be in need of the drug [Viagra]. The study found that the number of middle-aged men who were impotent was above the national average. This has greatly upset the Perlis Mentri Besar, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, who has spent the past three days vigorously defending the virility of men from his state. 'We have among the highest number of men practising polygamy. If you have more than one wife you cannot be impotent,' he said.

I didn't come up with much weird stuff today during GP. During the prelims, my sentences irritated the marker (Mrs Dayna Chia) so much, she wrote comments on my script. The weirdest sentence I managed today was 'foresight', about having the foresight not to build my bungalow at the Three Gorges in China, for fear of a flooded wine cellar. I'm rather put out at myself. Maybe I'll post some of my better sentences in the future. Julian reminded me of the time when Chinx, me and him all did themed sentences, pissing Mrs Chan off. Heh.

This girl was reading a book of quotations before the exam. (...)

Grr, the Compre was hard (though the passage was amusing, being written funnily). When in doubt, it is always good to use 'African tribes' for examples, as their customs vary so much that anything you write about them is probably true. Like half the world did the computers, mobile phones and communications. And probably the other half (S03 students or the essay memorisers) did cloning. I did one of my (many) pet topics - "Is the idea of having one partner for life still realistic?'. Not too well done, though. Ugh.

Act Cute had a weird expression on her face, and the way she picked her fingers was funny.

Something about the aforementioned expatriate's speech reminded me of an Air Steward. Hrm.

For some reason, people were amused when, when asked by the invigilator to crush my piece(s) of used paper, I tore one sheet in half. I wonder why.

Blank faced girl's understudy had an expression on her face today! Maybe it was due to her splashing her top when in the toilet. Tong likes to dry her hands on her skirt. Guys do dry them on their pants too, but fortunately for us, wet purple sackcloth (or white cotton) is less obvious than wet green cotton.

Someone on the busker: He's not blind or crippled. Me: He's not even pretending to be blind or crippled. I tried pacing the underpass today, and found an approximately right pace. Now to wait for him to show up. My estimate is next Friday, after Physics. He likes to come in the afternoons.

Apparently they have mo4 xie3 in the THE Chinese High School school. So much for Chinese being a living language (and in a SAP school too). If you get it wrong, you get whacked with a wooden spoon! Talk about Communist. (Xephyris says he cheated by writing on the table in pencil. Dewious (sic).)

I saw a Malay girl reading "Chicken Soup for the Single's Soul". The whole thing has gone from stupid to ridiculous. There are editions for the Pet Lover's Soul, the Golfer's Soul ("Oh no! I didn't score a hole in one. My hole in one insurance was wasted", or, I drove it into a lake. Grr.), and who knows what else. I hope David Fisher will come out with "Chicken Shit for the Soul 3" soon (I much prefer the original title of the first - Chicken Poop for the Soul. Nicer ring).

There were some PJ girls on the train today, but they were downwind from Kai leung, Minrui and I. Minrui pointed out that there was one behind us, but she was sitting down, so we weren't caught in the downdraft.

Hehe. Yaoi Girl was scandalised to find out what 'bukkake' is. Perhaps that will enliven the dull week ahead (one paper in the week? Argh, so lucky!). The only reason *I* know is that in my Morpheus searches, I found the term and asked Xephyris. Maybe I'll ask Minrui on Monday.

I need a new stylus. The top of the present one's loose. Hell, I'd like a Clie PEG-N760C. *Drool*.

Saturday:
Aha. I now have a Samsung SyncMaster 151s 15" Multi Function TFT LCD Monitor.

The National Library Board is too rich - see how many LCDs they have.

Mats [Pronunciation: Mah'ts] was today. Mats is good. I like Mats. Matss is hard.

Madam Teng came up to talk to me today. I thought it'd be about the JC Guide thing.

Instead:
"Are you taking your A Levels?... You are taking a risk... You are the one taking a risk" (On my scandalously long hair)

Oh well. It's not rebellious-long, it's lazy-to-cut-long.

We had this expatriate teacher as he-who-makes-the-announcements for invigilation. Presumably he's been here long, because he *gasp* lapsed into a S'pore accent for a word or too every so often.

The media centre is good. It's air-conditioned. Julian got the air-con vent again. Ah well.

One of my ongoing searches found a target again. "Girls with hairier legs than I" [Someone else: "That's hitting below the belt"]. Not an Indian (They're not counted). I would try and look out for guys with less hairy legs than I do, but it's a bit hard with long pants, and I've been to PE as many times this year as fingers I have (IIRC).

[Danny, after feeling my legs] Your legs are smoother than my girlfriend's. [Me: What were you doing feeling your girlfriend's legs?]

Blank faced girl wasn't that blank faced today.

I got to bring home 2 columns' stacks of unused paper. For some reason they gave out 2 sheets of graph paper to everyone, so I've now a lifetime's supply. I actually didn't want to take it, but even after they dismissed us, they didn't take it back, so I kept my row's stack [I was at the front of Column B] and took the Column C's.

Xiaoshi asked me what I was going to do with them. I suggested that I would colour the squares. "Isn't that what girls do?" said she. I didn't know they were that bored/screwed up! Chong See Eng used to punish people by making them colour the alternate squares on his isometric/graph paper, or sandpaper the junk wooden pieces.

The busker was in residence at the Buona Vista underpass again! I went to look at the piece of paper on the ground and confirmed that yes, it was his lyrics. What sort of busker refers to lyrics??? And he finally took his foot off the wall. The next time I walk there, I'm going to have to find a pace commensurate with the timing of 'Ave Verum Corpus', in preparation for the next time I see the busker there. This time I just walked off quickly.

Argh, all the ACJC people were coming out at the same time as us. The aura...

I have this theory that PJ girls stink. Whenever I meet them on the MRT... Today, one was at the door and, yah. And there were like 3-4 behind me, and when the train slowed, the inertia of the air brought it past me and Minrui.

This is disgusting. There are 6 Bubble Tea outlets in the Ghim Moh area, 2 around the unfortunately named 'GM Food Centre'.

Saw a Raffles Guy. There was this ACJC guy around her. Andrew Gan claimed that they were siblings, but maybe not. Eheh. And both of them had collars lined blue on the inside (ACJC shirt, and the newer RGS PE-Shirt, which is disgusting like the older RGS PE Shirt, but in a different way.

This one looks plain uncomfortable, with rough-looking fabric [and apparently feels uncomfortable too]. And a collar on a PE shirt??? But the old one was disgusting because the collar became loose after a few washes [flopping around when worn, exposing their invariably black or grey coloured sports bras] and the material became transparent. *shudder* Disgusting. Almost as bad as Unspeakable Sights.)

And more people who hiked their skirts improperly! One plump ACJC girl. The last time I saw one so obvious, it was this Indian CJC girl at Shaw House, whose skirt was maybe 1/3 shorter at the back than the front. This one wasn't so bad though.

ACJC friend (in A03 equivalent combi!) on AC girls:

Most AC girls brag about doing it. [Ed: From Melvin's descriptions, I'm not surprised. But then Melvin has his weird ideas, which are sometimes even more mind boggling than mine]

Most try to be wild. [Ed: From their reputation... Which JC now holds the 'highest abortion rate in Singapore' title now? Started off as CJC. Not so sure about now.]

Most tuck more than half of the socks into their shoes so that they'd look like ankle socks. [Ed: I'd think they'd be 'hot' enough to get proper Hot Socks!]

Most fold their skirts up so that it'll look short. [Ed: Explains why the longest skirt in ACJC is 3 cm above the knee. But why don't they just hike the damn things up? Or are they afraid of hiking the back too high?]

Most desperately try to straighten their hair. [Ed: Asian hair's already quite straight. Adela is the only one I know of with curly hair, IIRC]

Most are just plain stupid. [Ed: Don't know very many ACJC girls myself. 2-3]

They know how to dress :) [Ed: I wouldn't know an ACJC girl if she was out of her Uniform, would I? So no comment.]
and they know how to carry themselves. [Ed: With that walk?]

aesthetically, they're a good catch.
most of them anyway. [Ed: Well.]

they're just not as full as angst and they don't make the time to sit around and brood long enough to be labelled "deep" people. [Ed: Hurrah. Sitting around brooding like Tim The Great used to do is bad for health and happiness]
they're mostly the out-going sort of fun-loving folks. [Ed: Figures]

I sent her my description of A03 people, and apparently it applies to all ACJC girls. Woah. ACJC A03 must be really *really* intensely *like that* then.

Anonymous comments (from the same person):

the bastard at the Orchard MRT underpass has been there for *years*
i remember passing him in sec 2 [NB: The writer is 22 this year, 2001] before he could afford an accordion and was singing
clearly the busker has had capital upgrades over the years.

SCGS has the most indecent girls in singapore bar none
although the SJC [St Joseph's Convent] lesbians come close

mycoommend then [that singaporean webpages are either mindless or angsty] is even more true now
notice theyall use the lame diary/wannabe journal/nihliistic pastel colours/small fonts/obscure phrases rather than compelte sentences/obscure, wannabe-lietrary titlature.. etc etc.

Ooo, Ms Bala(singamchow) also doesn't like NYPS:

"Btw, just read your NYPS rant. I was a victim too. Mdm Ho Chin Geok was the P in my time. *shudder*. And nothing to add. Sounds like you went through the same NYPS that I did... I have sworn never to give any alumni donations to NYPS. I was so upset with the school in Primary 6 that I refused to put it down in my secondary school choices, which caused my mother some distress... I really don't have pleasant memories of the place."

More dissatisfied customers. What a difference 9 years (apart) makes. Or not.

The 21st Students' Council is very free with their digital camera, and in signing up for millions of Geocities accounts.

Apparently Flesh Parade reprised their 'Swing' dance on Open House Day, and pictures were taken! Ooo.

Illustrating what Andrew Ga... Oops. "Someone Else", meant by "Find one without a ponytail" and "It's a 20s thing, the tank tops are [supposed to be] their undergarments".

The earlier ones of Associate Flesh parade from 1999, lifted from the Council's page:

Every cloud has a silver lining. Even the JC Guide thing. My review was partly responsible for my invitation to participate in "Dust In The Eye".

My infamy has spread far. I got asked today, by some Sec 4 RGS girl, "yo're not the one that started the purple uniforms thing are you? just wondering... i think it's a noble cause... i haven't tried it [the uniform] so i wouldn't know right? but yes i hate purple uniforms".

Friday, November 02, 2001

the busker [in the Orchard MRT Underpass] is quite blind, you can't blame him for not knowing how to read the lyrics. that's crippled for you.

This post has been edited by the editor (additions in square brackets) for veracity and correctness, after a request of the poster.
Where the hell is "Ascension Island"? Many many people put it in their ICQ infos. I'm assuming it's not the one near St Helena. It doesn't seem to be a selectable option for the ICQ 'country' box anymore.

Some teachers are displeased with "Improve Your English". Now, I understand why they would be for the RJ review, but this is just a collection, verbatim, of what was actually said.

Today, Chris was teasing me, then I started poking and then chasing him. After a round around the LT closer to the 3rd floor tables near the library, the chaser became the chased when Chris got a Fire Extinguisher. At least they don't get caught now.
Thanks to Tong's noble, munificent sacrifice, scanning now resumes!

Amazing how fast scanning is when the pages have come out. Or maybe that's because I was reading Veblen's Theory Of The Leisure Class while waiting.

Words of wisdom to live by:
Laugh and the world laughs with you, fart and they leave you alone.
[Ed: Wasn't it something like, "Sometimes...when you cry, no one sees your tears. Sometimes...when you are happy, no one sees your smile. But fart just one time...."]

Or something.

Econs S isn't easy at all. Some people just have the knack, eh, Eli' Tong? I can almost hear you say "See? I have the knack." now.
Didn't get that? *mutter*(Its an old Phantasy Star Online joke. NO one here is going to get it. I don't know why I try.)*/mutter*

The irritating busker - why does he do it? He doesn't look... crippled or anything. (I'm not mean!) If he wants attention, he should busk near the Youth Square in Orchard Road. I can't make out what he's trying to sing. Which gives me an idea... we can sing the gibberish lyrics to Kanno-sama's Cat's Delicacy when we move past him! Here I go:

Ne bra en vrutu ko proshan de fase sevo lu shun ti
Tanda la mando mo a lan du fan du san e de la shantwa

Ano amoi demo atushi padufwi

Ano amoi demo atushi padufwi
Anushan duma demu sa vrupru upartwi
Konnina vripru konnina sheta kwateta
Seteba fusku kevete ne ma patisha

La La La, La La La, La La La, La La...
Sia, atushio

Ano amoi demo atushi padufwi
Anushan duma demu sa vrupru upartwi
En dine rupru en dinashi a fwititu
Seti la pars tu evriende mwa patisha

La La La, La La La, La La La, La La...
Sia, atushio

Sevola lu shun te zu to...
Sevola lu shun te zu to...

Note: All words are rubbish-words, and don't make sense at all. Vowels are all short, except for the 'o'. This actually is Merle's image song, from Tenkuu no Escaflown? If anyone actually wants the tune I may up the mp3 sometime. It's quite an interesting composition.
Yeh, Mr Lim visited Improve Your English and he found it quite funny.

We should all be able to laugh at ourselves :)

And I'm always open for people to send in quotes from ME (yeah, my English ain't perfect, I know)

The guy with the irritating voice in Ghim Moh / Buona Vista underpass was singing again, with his guitar and with one foot on the wall. At least he wasn't looking down at the piece o paper scribbled with lots of stuff, presumably his song lyrics.

I think the next time I go into the vicinity of a lousy or irritating busker, I will start singing Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus, and see what happens.

Tong claims Econs S is very easy. Right.

Jewish culture is biased against the dogs. Someone sent me a quote translated from something jewish- about a dog returning to consume its own defaecation.
Cats keep themselves clean. Well, relative to dogs. Dogs have a part of their body that's always damp, an infestation ground for bacteria- wet snouts
Yeh! I just realised that my British Museum Lewis Chessmen T-Shirt is high quality - no seam on either side.

Uncle Soon Kiat works at RGS, SCGS and the THE Chinese High School school too!
I passed the School With The Most Indecent Uniform in Singapore Bar None today.

I saw 12 people, and only 2 were in full U. The rest were in Half-U or were wearing a jacket.

Some may wonder, why?

One explanation - They are shy, so they cover. Or they do not engage in personal grooming daily. For obvious reasons, few fall into this category.

Another - They have nothing to show, or they don't have the SCGS figure, so they cover.

Otherwise, they feel that it is immoral [since they have no choice of exposure], or that there is no thrill or sense of rebellion because they are forced to be exposed.

NB: I do not have anything for students from the School With The Most Indecent Uniform in Singapore Bar None.
Ooo, Ms Phang is writing a letter to Chee Soon Juan.

My RJC review has been found by the Powers That Be. Erm.
I like dogs. Dogs are nice. Cats are evil. Cats are even more useless than dogs. Cats are not haram.

I like both. Animals can be quite interesting things. Well, except for goldfish (I don't see the point of them.) And cats are not haram apparently because they are so less involved with human lifestyle than dogs are, so no one bothered to make them haram. If they had, they'd probably be haram too.

Tapeworm is quite often used (so I've read) by models in the fashion industry (the haute couture, no less) as a means to keep fit easily. 1 tapeworm, and say good-bye to all your weight problems. See? Useful little things. *chuckles*

Interesting Link of the Post:
Recently found a quite interesting MMORPG. It's in a very early phase, but its artstyle and aesthetics I can't help but like. Anyway, as I said, its very early, and not much besides basic character classes has been implemented, but I feel it has great potential anyway.

Ragnarok Online
For some reason, quite a lot of people love to ask, "what's that" when people send them a file. Nevermind that they will only receive the answer after they choose to accept or decline the file(s). And they end up accepting it on the second send anyway.

This is scary:

The Findings of Scientific Research Relative to Keeping Dogs

Some lovers of the West in Muslim countries claim to be full of love and compassion for all living creatures and they wonder why Islam warns against this "best friend" of man. For their benefit, we quote here a lengthy excerpt from an article by the German scientist, Dr. Gerard Finstimer, (Translated from the German magazine Kosinos.)

in which the author sheds light on the dangers to human health resulting from keeping dogs or coming in contact with them. He says:

The increasing interest shown by many people in recent times in keeping dogs as pets has compelled us to draw public attention to the dangers which result from this, especially because pet dogs are hugged and kissed and permitted to lick the hands of the young and the old, and what is worse, to lick the plates and utensils which are used by human beings for eating and drinking.

Besides being unhygienic and uncouth, this practice is bad manners and abhorrent to good taste. However, we are not concerned with such matters. leaving them to be addressed by teachers of etiquette and good taste.

Rather this article is intended to present some scientific observations.

From the medical point of view, which is our main concern here, the hazards to human health and life from keeping and playing with dogs are not to be ignored. Many people have paid a high price for their ignorance, as the tapeworm carried by dogs is a cause of chronic disease, sometimes resulting in death.

This worm is found in man, in cattle, and in pigs, but it is found in fully-developed form only in dogs, wolves and rarely in cats. These worms differ from others in that they are minute and invisible, consequently, they were not discovered until very recently.

He continues,

Biologically the developmental process of this worm has some unique characteristics. In the lesions caused by them, one worm gives rise to many heads which spread and form other and varied kinds of lesions and abscesses. These heads develop into full-grown worms only in dogs' tonsils. In humans and in other animals they appear as lesions and abscesses completely different from the tapeworm itself In animals the size of an abscess may reach that of an apple, while the liver of the infected animal may grow from five to ten times its normal size. In human beings the size of the abscess may reach that of a clenched fist or even the head of an infant; it is filled with yellow fluid weighing from ten to twenty pounds. In the infected human it may cause diverse kinds of inflammations in the lungs, muscles, spleen, kidneys, and brain, and appears in such different forms that specialists, until very recently, had difficulty in recognizing it.

In any case, wherever this inflammation is found, it poses great danger to the health and life of the patient. What is worse is that, in spite of our knowledge of its life history, origin, and development, we have not been able to devise a cure for it, except that in some instances these parasites die out, possibly because of antibodies produced in the human body. Unfortunately, cases in which such parasites die without causing damage are rare indeed. Moreover, chemotherapy has failed to produce any benefit, and the usual treatment is surgical removal of the abscessed parts of the body. For all these reasons we should use all possible resources to fight against this dreadful disease and save man from its dangers.

Professor Noeller, through post-mortem dissection of human bodies in Germany, found that the incidence of infection with dogs' worms is at least one percent. In some places such as Dalmatia, Iceland, southeastern Australia, and Holland, where dogs are used for pulling sleds, the incidence rate of tapeworm among dogs is 12 percent. In Iceland the number of people who suffer from the inflammation caused by this worm has reached the rate of 43 percent. If we add to this the human suffering, the loss of meat because of infection of cattle, and the permanent danger to human health because of the presence of tapeworms, we cannot be very complacent toward this problem.

Perhaps the best way to combat the problem is to limit the worms to dogs and not let them spread, since in actuality we need to keep some dogs. We should not neglect to treat dogs when necessary by getting rid of the tapeworms in their tonsils and perhaps repeating this process periodically on shepherd dogs and watchdogs.

Man can protect his life and health by keeping a safe distance from dogs. He should not hug them, play with them, or let them come close to children. Children should be taught not to play with dogs or to fondle them. Dogs should not be permitted to lick children's hands or come to places where they play. Unfortunately, dogs are allowed to roam about everywhere, especially in places where children play, and their bowls are scattered throughout the house. Dogs must have their own separate bowls, and they must not be allowed to lick bowls and plates used by humans. They should not be allowed inside grocery stores, restaurants, or marketplaces. In general, great care must be taken that they do not come in contact with anything which is used by people for eating and drinking.

We already know that the Prophet (peace be on him) forbade mixing with dogs, and that he warned against their licking plates and against keeping them without necessity. How is it possible that the teachings of an unlettered Arab, Muhammad, should agree with the latest findings of scientific research? Truly, we cannot say anything except to repeat the words of the Qur'an: Nor does he speak from (his own) desire. It is nothing other than a revelation sent down. (53:3-4)

Tim thinks if I do too much research into Islam and its various tenets, I might convert. Xephyris is as amused as I am (or even more so) by the various weird prohibitions of Islam.

I like dogs. Dogs are nice. Cats are evil. Cats are even more useless than dogs. Cats are not haram.

I must redouble my efforts to find moderate Muslim websites. I'm sure they do exist.

Do they?

Searching "dogs haram" (sans quotes) also brings up this interesting page: http://members.aol.com/summerbelr/Richard7.htm.

Lo and behold, it's on another of my pet topics.

"A scan of the biblical references to dogs gave an outlandishly depressing picture of greedy, filthy, deplorable beasts, best known for licking up enemy blood from the streets and revisiting their old vomit. They are compared to every sort of person held to be disgraceful, from male prostitutes (Deut. 23:18) to villainous enemies (Psalms 22:16) to false Christians (Philipp. 3:2)... For the final blow against the good dog, from what ought to be the fundamentalist point of view, is delivered in Revelations 22:15. "These others must stay outside (the holy city of God): dogs, sorcerors, fornicators, murderers, and idolaters, and everyone else of false speech and false life." Case closed. No leash law in the New Jerusalem. A cat- lover's paradise descends from the skies."

Gasp. Hrm, his explanation is quite interesting. He thinks that there are 2 plausible explanations - one that "dog" was used in a metaphorical sense, and the other that dogs have changed from what they used to be.

"But dogs are not wholly condemned, being merely the suppliers of the metaphor. It's the things that are compared to dogs that are in deep doo-doo."

And going over to his real topic,
"Homosexual activity is consistently presented as a superfluously excessive indulgence, a dog-like scrabble into unruled sensual grossness. In Leviticus, it is grouped with other aspects of the "uncircumcised"--which is to say, the unrestrained, indulgent and exploitative--Canaanite lifestyle.... Likewise, in Paul's letter to the Romans, people are explicitly referred to as turning aside from their true natures to engage in purely lustful sexual entertainments. Inside or outside of Sodom, homosexual acts provided a metaphor for superfluous sensual exploitation, possibly connected with other follies of self- gratification up to and including the rape of travellers... I would suggest that the quotations on homosexuality thoughout the Bible are directed against something that was very real at the time. The target, I think, was something that would have been much more commonplace than gay/lesbian loving relationships, namely, the quasi-homosexual, exploitative diversions of persons who, if they had engaged the loving aspects of their natures, would almost all have been exclusively heterosexual"

This one's funny:
"Even persons inspired by the Holy Spirit do not always flesh out every potential in every subject. If they did, you would not be able to lift the Bible with a forklift." Hehe.
stop alluding to me via obscure references, gabby. blue tracing paper is soo ten minutes ago, now we're using the powdered-white-tracing-paper from japan! (anthrax, anyone?)

I feel like I'm on a ship - seasick. My head's going up and down, up and down.

eXTREeMe tracking account.

Skin care companies are evil. Salient example - the blue tracing paper used to 'absorb oil'. Tissue probably works better, and people have a tendency to drop the tracing paper on the floor.
No, didn't get a rubber chicken.

I'm no expert (i'm not even a girl), but i remember the study conducted on synchronisation of periods was with college girls living together in single-sex dorms. Dunno what the outcome was in co-ed dorms, though.

What's an eXTREeMe tracking account?

I have a sneaky feeling quite a lot of vain guys use hairbands to keep their floppy fringes off their faces. *hard look*

Apparently the cleanse-tone-moisturise trio isn't totally necessary- it's a marketing promotion by skin care companies for a "comprehensive solution". Cleansing and moisturising are the important ones anyway.
Tea tree oil is good! Though it can be harsh on sensitive skin and doesn't smell nice. It doesn't have any relation to tea at all; comes from a bush/shrub thing in australia used in traditional remedies. Has antiseptic properties.
Been plagued with acne since secondary school.

Agree with julian's argument abt using the term "ripping"

My mum's going to help me buy a copy of BigO this month. I'm told it stands for "before i get old".

Because I'm too lazy to type everything myself, I'll just quote Shawn:

"On the subject of apathy - I reckon it's an appropriate response to unfairness. And there's much in the upcoming elections that hint at a smidgen of unfairness. Aren't 9 days an appallingly short period of time for an opposition party to carry out its hustings? Hasn't the one contentious ward of the previous election been gerrymandered to avoid a repeat? Has the ruling party shown a willingness to use the judiciary to smother democracy? Is the election deposit of $13,000 a check on democracy? Isn't the mandatory voting system a violation of a person's right not to vote - which should be as equally inviolable as his right to vote?

You answer the questions. How do neutral foreign newspapers report our election? Because the term "landslide victory" isn't going to be enough"

The "Mirror of Opinion" does ramble and become irrelevant (and just plain petulant) sometimes, but it does make some good points.

And I, who live in Lower Delta, am part of Tanjong Pagar GRC. My sister's workplace, TCS (Braddel Heights, which was won only narrowly by the PAP last election) is part of... drumroll. Marine Parade GRC! Well done.

Though the opposition seems to have trouble even filling in a simple form (one page, 5 blanks). Not sure about the technicalities of needing a Justice of the Peace to witness the filling in and such.
Hahaha!

No, I'm not going mad. I just thought the announcer's phrases to be hilarious. I hope the people in Japan don't seriously think that other speakers of English actually talk like that. Well, at least not like that ALL the time.

I'm not sure which free webspace providers have SSI support. What can be done with SSI that can't be done with other languages? Hm.

You know what? I think reusing your own code can't be termed "Ripping" :) Ripping seems like you're blatantly stealing someone else's code, but if I'm just reusing my own code, I don't see why not. Maybe its a bit lazy, but I really hope I don't get accused to ripping my own code the next time someone downloads both Light and Normal versions of my PSO section ID calculator (basecode is the same :)

OK. With the Aid of Gabriel (without which this would not have happened) I have discovered an arrangement of words that sounds extremely phrase-like. See, its not REALLY a phrase, it just sounds that way. It sounds cool, too. So... without further ado, here is the phrase: Ellipsis in Parenthesis. (...)

Cool, eh? I know some of you are thinking "..." and "This guy needs to see a therapist". Listen to my explanation before you dismiss me as a total lunatic and stop reading. See, its one of those pseudo-phrases that sound cool, seem interesting, apparently have more meaning than "just the words", probably embody some sort of philosophy, but in actuality make no sense whatsoever. Thats the reason why its absolutely suitable as a name for a webpage-template. Did I mention that it sounds cool, too?

Alright, before someone starts accusing me of going mad again (I'm not, really! See, the purple polka dotted giraffe sitting next to me named Chumpy agrees. I'm not mad, am I, Chumpy?) I'm going to sign off now. Oh yeah, my usual interesting link for the post:

Horizons was a fantastically ambitious MMORPG - I say was, because apparently its scope is being narrowed so its more realistic. Also, there were worries of it being Vapourware as Artifact Entertainment (the makers of Horizons) did not release much except artwork :P Not the best way to maintain community interest / faith, yes? Anyway, now they've released prototype animations, and notable ones include the Dragon (its quite big) and Saris (the race I intend to play as). Here it is:

Horizons Vault - Prototype Animations

Alright, I'm going. Say goodbye, Chumpy. There's a good zebra.
My attempts to use SSIs to have the links to "Archives" at the navbar at the left have failed. Looks like Tripod doesn't support them. Ah well, at least they have CGI support! (Not likely that I'll use it anytime soon though...)

Bah. Played a Palm game promoting 'Spygame', some upcoming movie. Looked suspiciously like one 'Agent-Z' game. Looked in the credits and guess what. It was developed by that fella. He just ripped his own code! Bah. ("Developed by Ellams Software. Produced by [some company]")

Prac sucks. I think most of us will agree :)

Has Xephyris gone mad? He'll probably do better than me in prac anyway. Too bad we can't, "I knew using Chin Yung's values was the right thing to do" for the exams...

I was punching the blue/green curtain thing-y (the one separating the area outside the labs with the outside world) after prac and almost hit Killer, who was bending down. Ah well.

And I saw these disgusting shoes worn by one 2S05B girl. I think it's the one who has someone with the same First and Last names in her class.

They were white, with these blue-green veins running around them, like the vessels sustaining some Frankenstein-ish creation of a mad scientist. With imagination, I could even see the bodily fluids dripping along, and see the shoe throbbing... Ugh. At least she wasn't wearing Hot Socks.

I saw #1, #5, #6 and #7 in the library today! And Paul Wong and Mengchuan too. Why's everyone loitering in school?

Wanted to laugh at the queues just before Prac. The Girls' toilet queue extended way out, to the water cooler. On going in, I saw Killer, but she was 2 persons' depth into the toilet, so I couldn't wave and laugh :) But on the way out, I saw Kaimun at the end of the queue and so could make my remark. Heh. Maybe someone should start a 'shorter toilet queues for females' movement, getting them to stop dallying. What do they do in there anyway? Splash water, comb their hair, change their pads, talk to people, clean with tissue (something many or most guys don't do)...

Someone is discovering the joys of the Tampines Home. Ooo. I think I've been there twice. Once in Sec 1 when Janki Tamilselvan (She now goes by Nandwani Tamilselvan methinks - yeh!) brought us there to learn about the less privileged. I think it was after the lecture on how students from the THE Chinese High School school were nicer, more mannered, less rowdy and did more homework than us (a talk similar to the one they probably get from their teachers about how RI boys are little angels). And the second time was last year, in J1 when we needed 2 more hours for Com. Service (I got the first 4 almost free by turning up late [accidentally, I might add] for the Ghim Moh Newspaper Collection). And all of us chose to fold clothes or scour beds rather than to interact with the residents. I wonder why...
"This Battle is about to explode. Fight!"

Physics practical - Cambridge decided that the last batch taking this should go with a bang, so they gave a rather interesting curve on the second question, and a rather interesting design experiment for the second one, too.

Live and let die, go for broke!
Does anyone else 'sides me think it was "interesting" too?
I need to voice the fact that IT IS THE LAST PHYSICS PRACTICAL I WILL EVER DO! WOOOOO~! Yeah!!! Alright! (For good measure: WOOOOOOOOOOO~!)

Ok. Back to looking at Capcom vs Snk 2 artwork for me now. Here it is, for anyone else who's interested (Its the art off the Fan Disk.)

Capcom vs SNK 2 artwork:
Capcom's Artist, whatsisname (:P Is it Akiman/Bengus?)
SNK's Artist, Shinkiro (I'm quite sure.)

This post was brought to you by Capcom vs SNK 2's annoying announcer! To end off, here's a few more quotes from that guy: "Behold the art of the combination attack!" ... "This is what we like to caaaaall... BIG DAMAGE!", and "I knew that groove was IN YOUR HEART!". Finally... "A new player has interrupted da tournament
You must crush them!"

Doh. Didn't get my own copy of 1999. Ah well.

A lot of people complain about the lousy quality. Hrm. Both of Jane's fell apart. Bah. So much for the ads on the inside front and inside back covers.

I always thought modem was pronounced "Moh - derm" -> short for Modulator / Demodulator, so we also derive the pronounciation from both words. Then again, don't take my word for it. I tend to mix things up and sometimes call it a "Moh-Damn" like Gabriel, and some times call it a "Moh-Derm" when I'm trying to act technical.
[Ed: Check Merriam-Webster if you aren't satisfied - www.m-w.com]

Whoa, John Proctor. A name from a time long past - I absolutely hated that story. Don't know why. It's eey-rational. Just didn't like it. Wound up studying "Global Tales" like crazy. Can't believe you just quoted (well, sort of) from it. Its so horrible my mind is blanking it out. Go away, scary person.

What style of music is Goldenburg Variations?
[Ed: GOLDberg. Goldberg Variations - 30 Variations played on the pianoforte. Composed by J.S. Bach to help this insomniac nobleman sleep]

And: Pimple cream doesn't work :P For me, anyway. Go try using Australian Tea Tree oil, and facewash with Salycic (is this how you spell it?) acid in it, like Neutrogena.
[Ed: Tea tree smells disgusting. Well, oftentimes]

Interesting facts:
The word "yaoi" itself is an acronym from "YAma nashi, Ochi nashi, Imi nashi" - "no culminaton (peak), no meaning, no conclusion". I believe that it was originally a demeaning term used by fans. Now, its being used more (possibly due to the internet). Generally, non-professional yaoi is manga about well-known pretty guys - characters from popular manga and anime series for guys, but told from the viewpoint of homosexual relationships. I believe it became known as "yaoi" only because, unlike manga for guys, "yaoi" less frequently observes the classical concepts of the construction of a literary work. The first series off of which there appeared a lot of yaoi manga was the anime "Mobile Suit Gundam" (Kido Senshi Gundam (1979-1980) (which is a nice anime series about robots, which I like. Didn't know it was so "popular" though ^_^;;;)

How do I know about this? A quick search on google quickly enlightened me. Amazing what google can do.

Argh. These yearbooks are of terrible quality. 2 pages fell out! The pages at the back weren't bound properly...

I may get my own copy tomorrow if there are still extras! Woo. Kairen offered me one (98 methinks) a while back, but he seems to have retracted the offer :)
My attempts to find mp3s of Glenn Gould's playing with the famed humming have not been successful. Trying to get the full Goldberg Variations from Morpheus MusicCity. Maybe I'll find him humming there. [Update: Nope, no humming. Maybe tis an Urban Legend]

Listening to the Variations is making me sleeeeeepy... *yawn*

This from someone who used to preen and arrange and gel hair in the mirror every morning :)

No, Kairen, I don't use "cleanser/toner/moisturiser", but that's because I'm too lazy.
*snip*

Finally found a use for the black hairband that I found cast off in school - to hold fringe back to avoid touching pimple cream.

And checked up the pronunciation of 'modem'. My sister claimed 'moh-damn' was wrong, but one of the 2 wavs from Merriam Webster's on 'modem' came out as 'moh-damn'. So I looped it. Muahaha. "It sounds awful!" - Sister

Geraldine suggested to me the other time that I ask Killer (Wanlin) whether she reads Romance Novels. Turns out she does. Ooo.

And she has a good point - "haha u learn from it that if they write about it means that it doesn't exist in real life... muahaha quite farney..".

Apparently they're not all stereotyped (though my impression of them is limited to reading through 2 of my sister's raunchy ones). I actually wanted to sit in the canteen and read one, and see what people said.

And there are 4 types: "got hte good the bad the lousy the sleazy"

I went to Shangri-la Coffee House for dinner, and a table away was a 9-ish boy with a m505. Wah. Maybe I should have beamed him a message, like I did to these 3 RJ girls who were playing Hardball in school. I beamed a "Hnnng..." memo.

And I got zapped by the cradle because I touched the charging surface.
Ooo, I've gotten 2 references to PMS at this time of month from RGS (Secondary 3 GEP) girls today. Could my theory be true?

Twas in Secondary 2 (?) that we were shown this video showing girls splashing around a waterfall, and the narrator was saying how the periods of girls who interacted a lot were synchronised.

Fast forward to early 2000, when I was walking out to Jelita with 1-2 friends. There were 3 Henry Park girls in front of us.

I was telling them about the synchronisation thing, and since RGS girls met each other ever day, the whole school would have synchronised periods.

"One day in Raffles Guys... *utters loud cry of pain and bends over clutching stomach*". The 3 girls yelped and ran forward.

The immediate analysis by my friend was that they were scared by 3 things:
- the word "menstruation"
- "Raffles Guys School" and
- of course, the cry of pain

Comment by someone, "You shouldn't scare young girls like that!!!!!!"
