Trans activists' war on Canadian parents funded by the federal government - "Fae Johnstone's Wisdom 2 Action organization has received approximately $1 million in federal grants and handouts since 2018 from multiple federal agencies, including the Public Health Agency and the Canada Summer Jobs program. Johnstone founded Wisdom 2 Action with Lisa Lachance, an NDP MLA in Nova Scotia and her party's LGBTQ2S+ critic. On the Wisdom 2 Action website, Lachance can be booked for speaking engagements and receives compensation for those appearances and expense reimbursements despite acting as a legislative critic for LGBTQ issues. HELEN JOYCE argues the gender self-identification lobby is harming children, women and trans people - "Most people are supportive of 'trans rights' – assuming something similar to same-sex marriage and women's franchise is being demanded. That trans people be allowed to live full lives, free from discrimination, harassment and violence and to express themselves as they wish. Such goals are worthy but they are not what mainstream transactivism is about. What 'trans rights' actually refers to is gender self-identification. This means that others are forced to agree someone is the gender they say they are. It requires that everyone else accept trans people's subjective beliefs as objective reality. This is not a human right at all. It is akin to a new state religion, complete with blasphemy laws. Underlying my objections is a scientific fact: that biological sex has an objective basis...As well as serving the interests of trans people very poorly, the ideological focus of this powerful lobby means it seeks to silence anyone who does not support gender self-identification. What's more, I fear, its overreach is likely to provoke a backlash that will harm ordinary trans people who simply want safety and social acceptance. When the public finally realises what is being demanded, the blame may not land with the activists, where it belongs... What finally pushed me to write my book was meeting some of gender-identity ideology's most poignant victims. They are detransitioners: people who took hormonal and sometimes surgical steps towards transition, only to realise that they had made a catastrophic mistake. They speak of trauma from experimental drugs and surgeries and having been manipulated and deceived by adults. I have seen them abused and defamed on social media. Their most obvious wounds are physical: mastectomies; castration; bodies shaped by cross-sex hormones. But the mental wounds go deeper. They bought into an ideology that is incoherent and constantly shifting and where the slightest deviation is ferociously punished. They were led to believe that parents who expressed concern about the impact of powerful drugs on developing minds and bodies were hateful bigots and that the only conceivable alternative to transition was suicide. This new ideology of body-denialism at the heart of gender-identity politics is especially harmful for women, since female bodies make demands in ways that male ones don't. Female bodies bear almost all the burden of reproduction and ignoring that fact doesn't change it. Governments, companies and charities now talk of 'people who menstruate', 'pregnant people', 'abortion seekers' and 'birthing parents', where they would once simply have said 'women'. As such, women are being erased... If the stated reason for such language, to be inclusive of transmen (females who identify as male), were sincere, we would see similar linguistic manoeuvres so as not to exclude transwomen (males who identify as female) when talking about males. There would be articles and advertising campaigns aimed at testicle-havers, semen-producers and the like. 'Anyone with a prostate' would be told to get it checked. But no such language is used. The inconsistency is flagrant. It's not just today's world which gender ideology seeks to change – the past is up for review, too. Any woman who – by force, luck or guile – smashed social stereotypes is at risk of being retroactively transitioned. Boudicca and Joan of Arc are both often described as transmen. So are lesbian icons such as the poet Radclyffe Hall. Fictional characters aren't safe either: George of Enid Blyton's Famous Five books, a girl who hates dresses and long hair, and loves sailing and climbing; Jo of Little Women, who whistles, walks with her hands behind her back and promises her father to be the 'man of the house' while he is away at war, are now said to be trans. These are not harmless reimaginings. They reinforce old-fashioned stereotypes about how men and women are 'supposed' to behave and dress.... Another harm to children concerns safeguarding. As the belief takes hold that biological sex is overwriteable by self-declared gender identity, institutions are abandoning the protocols which it was hoped would prevent a repeat of child-abuse scandals... The history of institutional child abuse has shown how predators can 'groom' people and organisations to accept behaviour that should have raised red warning flags. For example, the Paedophile Information Exchange was tolerated by the Labour Party and the civil rights group now called Liberty. Its followers gained a hearing partly by persuading Leftists that their enemies' enemies were automatically friends – in this case, the enemies were Conservatives and evangelicals who opposed gay activists and paedophiles. That made speaking out about paedophile infiltration on the Left nearly impossible... Of the 125 transgender prisoners in English prisons in late 2017, 60 were transwomen who had committed sexual offences – a share far higher than in the general male prison population, let alone in the female one. So either transwomen are more likely than other males to be sexual predators, or – more probably – gender self-ID provides sexual predators with a marvellous loop-hole. Whichever is true, allowing males to self-identify into women's spaces makes women less safe... In 2018, research by Populus, an independent pollster, crowdfunded by British feminists, found that only 15 per cent of British adults agreed that legal sex change should be possible without a doctor's sign-off."
How British Feminist Grass Roots Turned the Tide on Gender - "To understand why it has taken so long for these policies to be rolled back, it is important to consider the outsized influence of websites such as Pink News, which purport to advance mainstream LGBT news and attitudes, but in fact have been co-opted by a highly motivated faction of (mostly male) trans activists. This vocal minority attracted little opposition when transgender anti-discrimination provisions originally were implemented to protect a few thousand British transsexuals (as many then commonly self-described). But things changed when legions of middle-aged men suddenly began insisting that they were women trapped in the wrong bodies (not to mention a massive surge in adolescent girls laying claim to the opposite path). Women who spoke up about this were systematically pushed out of any public square—the same treatment that some are seeking to impose on Rowling. But thankfully, times are changing... even in Scotland, I’ve observed women organizing at the grassroots level to oppose male encroachment on their spaces—the only option we had before Rowling and other mainstream media figures began speaking out openly on our behalf. Ultimately, what motivated us wasn’t ideology, but safety. It should never be a hate crime for a woman to say, “I just don’t want to share a swimming-pool changing room with men.” Yet that was where things were headed. In late 2019, trans activists protested feminist Meghan Murphy’s appearances at libraries in Vancouver and Toronto, where she discussed how all of these issues are affecting the safety of Canadian women. These confrontations became national news in Canada, and Toronto chief librarian Vickery Bowles was lauded for her principled decision to permit Murphy’s event. What is less known is that something similar played out in February 2020, when the Glasgow Women’s Library (GWL) no-platformed a feminist group called For Women Scotland (FWS), whose members wanted to discuss the proposed implementation of self-ID policies. At first, the feminist group was told that the library was cancelling the booking to repair a leaking roof. GWL then denied the group an alternative date on the basis that they were fully booked. Eventually, GWL confirmed publicly that they’d cancelled the booking because FWS’s “values” did not align with those of their institution... Think about that: A “women’s library” tells its supporters that it is refusing to hold an event dedicated to protecting actual women—out of deference to self-identified women whose claim to womanhood is based on filling out a form on a government website. Needless to say, FWS members were appalled. And this is part of a pattern: Whenever women have attempted to meet to discuss the impact of gender ideology-driven public policy on women’s rights, venues are bombarded with tweets, calls, emails, and other forms of pressure from trans activists who claim that giving an audience to the other side of the debate is inherently hateful. Behind the scenes, meanwhile, activists have led a genuinely McCarthy-esque campaign of blacklisting against dissenters. The Scottish Poetry Library deserves credit as one of the first British institutions to take a stand against this bullying... Asif Khan, director of the Scottish Poetry Library, was pointed in his response when Scottish PEN—a group that ostensibly supports freedom of speech—somehow saw fit to slam the library for its pro-free-speech policy... It is telling that Khan is a man. For their own part, many Scottish women speak seldom, or only on condition of anonymity, about the abuse and attacks they continue to face simply for being critical of gender ideology in a country that has enabled trans activists to set the tone in literary life. As one anonymous signatory to an open letter to the Scottish Poetry Library wrote, “I know that if I speak out publicly at my [publisher], then I risk not having my contract renewed.” Another wrote, “My publishing house is currently all about ‘diversity’ and I know that if I speak out publicly then I risk not having my contract renewed which, being the sole earner in my home… a risk I literally cannot afford.” Other authors describe how their professional and personal lives were disrupted and curtailed by aggressive trans activists. It would be wrong to present these trans activists as working together as a single unit, let alone any kind of unified conspiracy. For the most part, this is nothing but a loose network of privileged millennials leveraging their positions within activism, arts, and academia to censor, ostracise, and, where they think necessary, punish women who oppose the idea that a man can become a woman by an act of self-declaration. Like all extremists, they believe their ruthless tactics put them on the side of angels. Unaccustomed to life on the breadline, they believe that any harm to a woman’s livelihood, relationships, professional networks, health, and security to be justifiable collateral damage in what they see as the great struggle of our time—the fight against transphobia. Eager to please this constituency, certain literary businesses, such as Lighthouse bookshop in Edinburgh, now actually boast about excluding Rowling’s books from their shelves. For its part, London’s Second Shelf bookshop didn’t remove Rowling’s books, but announced that every time someone bought one, they’d make a donation to a lobby group that supports paediatric transitioning. Some activists even fantasize about scrubbing Rowling’s name off the entire Harry Potter universe... The novelists, librarians, and booksellers circling the wagons to shut women up have been insisting for years that they are motivated by nothing but love and tolerance. And for a while, people took them at their word—including many policymakers and legislators. But all cults eventually collapse under the weight of their own dogma once its absurdity is exposed. And thanks to the grass-roots efforts of women on both side of the Atlantic, that is what we now see happening."

Though unsurprising, these insights deal yet another blow against the myths of “intersectional” progressivism and make a strong case for further ethnicity-based social research... The SSPPS also asked respondents whether same-sex couples should have the right to adopt children. It not only found high levels of support among Canadians (79.6 per cent for women, 70.8 per cent for men), but that this support, rather than eroding, had actually increased — ever so slightly — by a single percentage point. So it would therefore seem that the backlash against transgender issues has not fully spilled over to LGB adoption rights. Unfortunately, the report provided only a sliver of the SSPPS’s data, leaving critical gaps that undermine independent analysis. For example, when it comes to same-sex adoption and supporting transgender family members, breakdowns of ethnicity and immigration status were not provided, even though this would have been relevant to Canadians... the authors were capable of ethnic analysis, but seemed to selectively spotlight only the more positive findings. The report’s ideological slant makes itself known in other ways, too. For example, the authors suggest that decreased acceptance of free gender expression was caused by “vocal public discourse which aims to legitimize transphobic perspectives” and provincial policies that “limit the rights of transgender and non-binary people.” The sources cited in support of these claims, of course, are quasi-academic activist papers that demonize Canada’s parental rights movement and warn against “right-wing agendas.” One would imagine that Statistics Canada’s analysts — who are supposed to be non-partisan — would be a bit more discreet about their political sympathies. In any case, it’s clear that more research needs to be done in this area. Not only should the SSPPS data be made easily available to the public, more surveys of this type should be conducted — because if Canada truly cares about understanding gender-based issues, then it needs to invest in data collection, even if that invites complicated conversations about immigration and ethnic communities."
B.C. nurse's online behaviour leads to $93K fine, sparking censorship claims - "A B.C. nurse was hit with a hefty fine for a pattern of online behaviour, resulting in a wave of online debate around censorship and gender discrimination. The fine was handed down by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) on Aug. 14. “A panel of the Discipline Committee (the Panel) of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) previously found that Ms. Hamm had committed professional misconduct by making discriminatory and derogatory statements towards transgender people across various social media while identifying as a nurse,” BCCNM states in its decision... A panel awarded the college $93,639 to be paid within two years. Her nursing license was also suspended for a month. A 115-page disciplinary hearing shares some of the allegations levelled against Hamm. Referring to the B.C. nurse, the hearing document states, “She does not believe that everyone has a gender identity. She rejects the suggestion that a person’s adherence or non-adherence to stereotypes associated with males and females somehow reflects an internal gender identity or gender soul, referring to it as ‘anti-scientific, metaphysical nonsense.’” The hearing documents also include the fact that Hamm supported Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and believes the author isn’t transphobic."

Amy Hamm: Father of 'evidence-based medicine' turns his back on science - "Canadian physician Gordon Guyatt coined the term "evidence-based medicine." According to the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, into which he was inducted in 2016, he is one of our country's "most cited researchers" and "is considered a world authority in the fields of health-related quality of life research, study design, systematic reviews and guideline development." His work led to the development of the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) tool, which allows researchers to determine the quality of a body of evidence. Guyatt is an impressive man. (Perhaps "was" is now the correct verb to use.) He is not, however, immune to the fear of being taken down by a righteous, anti-science mob of gender activists. This month, McMaster University, where Guyatt is a professor in research methods and evidence, published a letter about recent "systematic reviews related to gender-affirming care." According to the university, the letter was written after "members and allies of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities … raised concerns about recent systematic reviews related to gender-affirming care. These concerns centre on the funding source, and specifically on the potential for the research to be misused to harm trans youth and to deny gender-affirming care." Yet the letter, which was signed by Guyatt and four others, is a total abdication of the principles of evidence-based medicine. The authors acknowledged that "only low certainty evidence exists … regarding the benefits of the gender-affirming care interventions addressed in our systematic reviews."... But Guyatt and his colleagues now say they're worried their findings "will be misused" to " justify denying care such as puberty blockers and hormone replacement therapy" to trans youth. While the university didn't give any details about which "members and allies of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities" complained, the letter appears to be a response to another — a letter to the editor published in the British Medical Journal, in which one angry person accuses the prestigious journal of "enabling anti-gender ideology" by — wait for it — publishing research conducted by the Society for Evidence Based Gender Medicine (SEGM), given that the Southern Poverty Law Center accused it (outrageously and without merit) of being "an anti-LGBTQ+ hate group." This is standard stuff from the cancellation mob playbook: attack the person, not the idea, and insist upon guilt by association. On its website, SEGM describes itself as "free from political, ideological, religious or financial influences," and on a "mission to promote evidence-based care for gender-dysphoric children, adolescents and young adults that prioritizes long-term outcomes, is rooted in ethical principles and is based on fully informed consent."... Guyatt and his colleagues at McMaster not only cut ties with SEGM, they paid an appropriate tithe — using their personal money — to an approved gender activist group... While the western world is making an about-face on the medical scandal that is pediatric gender transition, Canada — thanks to people like Guyatt — remains under the spell of radical gender ideologues whose sole remaining currency is intimidation. Do what we say, or we will ruin your reputation, too. What Guyatt and his colleagues are essentially saying is this: forget about the low-quality evidence, and instead allow the "autonomy of patients and their advocates" to overrule the science... The argument blatantly ignores the largest ethical issue in pediatric gender-affirming care: that minors are not capable of providing informed consent for this type of treatment, and their advocates (parents, usually) have been woefully misinformed about its benefits. Parents have been lied to about pediatric gender transitioning being the only thing that can prevent their children from committing suicide. They've been lied to about the safety and permanent side effects of puberty blockers. And anyone with a modicum of reasoning faculties should understand that children and teens are not capable of "choosing" their gender, or deciding if they are OK with never having children."

Oh, how I loathe the narrative that all men have a rapist within them; that if, as a man, you manage to go about your life not raping people, it’s really only by happy accident. That when it comes to one of the most heinous crimes in existence, maybe you were just a normal person, having a really bad day?"
Sack transgender Green MSP over rape remarks, say Scottish Tories - " The Scottish Tories have called on the Greens to remove the whip from a transgender MSP who claimed that rape exists on a “spectrum”. Meghan Gallacher, the Tory equalities spokesman, described the remarks as appalling and accused Q Manivannan of minimising the seriousness of rape. She is now demanding that Ross Greer and Gillian Mackay, the co-leaders of the Scottish Greens, remove the whip from the Indian-born MSP. Reem Alsalem, the UN’s special rapporteur on violence against women and girls, also intervened, writing on social media that rape should never be spoken about in terms of it being a spectrum. Manivannan made the controversial remarks on the Subjective Space podcast in February last year, more than a year before being elected to Holyrood. However, footage has recently resurfaced, showing Manivannan argued that the “demonisation of rape” led to an overly simplistic idea about what kind of people committed the offence. Manivannan said it existed on a spectrum and was dependent on different contexts, claiming that anyone, including women, could commit the offence. Feminist campaigners said they were disturbed by the remarks, claiming they showed “ignorance of the trauma and violation of rape”."

"I only treat real women" - that's what French gynaecologist Victor Acharian told a 26-year-old transgender woman he refused to treat in his clinic in the south-west of the country recently... "I told her that I'm not competent, but I can guide you. I can refer you to services that can take better care of you. But after I said that, things went south," gynaecologist Victor Acharian told Euronews. "I thought I was being honest when I said it wasn't my speciality. I don't know how to treat them and I don't mind being called ignorant," he added. "You're transphobic!" the young woman reportedly shouted as she left the consulting room. According to the gynaecologist, the patient began to insult his secretary, reacting violently to the refusal... "As more and more transgender patients are coming, it is the responsibility of the country's health authorities to be aware of this and to take them into account so that they can deal with this problem," Pernille Ravn, a member of the European Society of Gynaecology and a gynaecologist at Odense University Hospital in Denmark, told Euronews. "There is no recommendation for a transgender woman to have regular gynaecological check-ups, unless she has a surgical problem related to the operation, because she doesn't have a uterus or a cervix," she added."

It has been almost 18 months since the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling that sex in equality law refers to biological sex rather than gender identity. As the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) guidance indicates, this means single-sex spaces, such as bathrooms or women’s refuges, are intended only for those of that biological sex. This has brought welcome clarity to a highly contested issue. But the leaders of Hackney, Haringey, Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark and Waltham Forest councils appear to think they can pick and choose which laws they wish to follow. Together they have committed to keeping their services “inclusive”, claiming that the rules were “harmful to the rights of trans people”... Andy Burnham appears to have time to mull over whether disposable barbecues should be banned. What is his position on this? Is he willing to accept Left-wing council leaders riding roughshod over women’s sex-based rights?"
