Swedish politician regrets ‘refugees welcome’ policy: ‘We were fundamentally wrong on the immigration issue’ - "Louise Meijer, an MP for Sweden’s centrist Moderate party, apologised to voters for her previous position on open borders. She regrets “making mistakes” by “pleading for openness and refugees [being] welcome”, she says... “Now, instead, I am advocating an even stricter migration policy than the one I opposed at the time,” she says. Political sentiments around migration have shifted swiftly in Sweden, with now even leaders of the Social Democrats saying they favour more strict migration policies. Sweden today is a “completely different country than it was at the end of the 20th century”. Per capita, it has “received the most immigrants in the Western world” in modern times, Meijer writes. Today, “more than a third of Sweden’s population has a foreign background. In 1987, the corresponding figure was 11 per cent.”... Currently “about 20 per cent of our inhabitants are of non-European and non-Western descent”, Meijer says. In Europe, “only France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands can show a similar figure, but the structure of immigration in these countries is linked to immigration from former colonies,” she says. Meijer says in several Swedish municipalities, more than half of the inhabitants have an immigrant background, which has caused fundamental change. “For me, it is obvious that the large immigration to Sweden has been followed by several major problems”, Meijer writes. “Large parts of the group of immigrants are not self-sufficient. People of foreign origin largely commit serious organised crime. The honour culture, separatism and Islamism are limiting and dangerous,” she argues. “A high level of migration in a relatively short period naturally affects the possibility of integration. The conditions for integrating people into Swedish society are becoming more difficult as immigration increases. This leads to exclusion that is burdensome, both for the people who live in it and for society as a whole.” “For integration to work, people who both want to move here and who already live here need to adapt to Swedish society and our values. You must work, speak Swedish and do your duty before claiming your rights. Those who do not want to adapt and integrate should not stay in Sweden. Expulsion or repatriation should then be a real alternative.” “It has become clear, for Sweden to be as good a country as possible for all the people who live here, we must have minimal asylum immigration here for the foreseeable future. It is needed for our country to hold together,” Meijer argues"
Court Of Appeal Reverses Supreme Court Ruling Re: Texas Immigration Law - "In a recent surprise move, the Supreme Court of the United States temporarily allowed a Texas immigration law to stand. But just when this article was first published, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the ruling once again putting the law on hold until the full court could decide the case. This ping pong court decision-making is unsettling and has amplified the drama surrounding the law. What is more, Mexico has issued a public statement that it is not prepared to accept returnees from Texas... When the Texas law was enacted, it aimed at addressing illegal immigration within the state’s borders and prompted intense debate and legal scrutiny. The legislation imposed strict penalties on those who cross the border unlawfully and represented a significant escalation in the state's approach to immigration enforcement... Texas, like many other border states in the United States, faces perennial challenges related to immigration across its southern border with Mexico. Some of the key problems include:
Illegal Immigration
Human Trafficking
Drug Trafficking
Border Security
Resource Strain
Legal and Policy Challenges
Public Debate and Political Divide"
America’s southern border has become a global crossroads - "If the migrants were from Mexico and Central America, as most used to be, Spanish would suffice. Yet among those who had just walked across from Mexico were people from China, India and Turkey... In fiscal year 2023, for the first time, migrants from places beyond Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras made up more than half of all those apprehended at the border (see chart 1). Venezuelans are the largest part of this group. But last year 43,000 Russians, 42,000 Indians and 24,000 Chinese also made the crossing—up from 4,100, 2,600 and 450, respectively, in 2021. America’s northern border has proved porous, too. In total some 40,000 Indian and Chinese migrants came south from Canada last year. Migrants take different paths to the southern border, depending on where they come from. An analysis by Idean Salehyan and Gil Guerra of the Niskanen Centre, a think-tank in Wasington, DC, suggests that most Chinese fly to Ecuador, to which they have visa-free travel, before making the long and dangerous trek through Panama’s Darién Gap. Panamanian data confirm that the number of Chinese migrants crossing the jungle rose steadily in 2023. In October, El Salvador began to tax African and Indian travellers at the country’s main airport. Turkish migrants in Jacumba had flown to Tijuana and then walked into California... Smuggling networks have evolved to serve the increased demand. Notices painted on walls and printed on fliers all over the Indian states of Punjab and Gujarat promise help with moving to America, Australia, Britain and Canada: visa services, college admissions, job opportunities. A charter plane bound for Nicaragua and filled with Indian migrants was recently grounded in France while officials conducted a human-trafficking investigation. The Turks in Jacumba admitted they had paid a coyote to show them the way to a hole in the border wall. Mexican cartels are also diversifying their enterprises by getting into the people-smuggling business... Roughly 70% of asylum applications from Chinese migrants between 2003 and 2023 were granted, suggesting that their reasons for leaving China were mostly credible (see chart 2). In fact, Ecuadorian data show that a disproportionately high share of Chinese migrants are coming from Hong Kong, where dissent has been punished, and Xinjiang, where Uyghurs have been persecuted. Rather than plotting to undermine America, plenty seem to be seeking freedom. But many, probably most, migrants have a financial incentive to come. Several at the camp in Jacumba said they were fed up waiting years for a visa, and hoped to earn more money in America than back home... When asked why he didn’t try to move somewhere closer to Turkey, Selim Gok, a 20-year-old student, responded matter-of-factly: “Because I speak English.”"
It's all America's fault for bombing China, India and Turkey! If they hadn't, there wouldn't be refugees from those countries seeking asylum

France expels 'radical' Tunisian imam Mahjoub Mahjoubi over flag comments - "Mahjoub Mahjoubi appeared to call the French flag "satanic" in a video that went viral online earlier this week. Mr Darmanin said France's immigration reforms had enabled the swift deportation of the imam. But the imam denies any wrongdoing and said he had not meant to be disrespectful. Mahjoub Mahjoubi, who hails from Tunisia but came to France 38 years ago, was an imam at the Ettaouba mosque in the small town of Bagnols-sur-Cèze, in the south of France. He was arrested earlier this week after a video circulated online showing him describing a "tricolour flag" as "satanic" and saying it has "no value with Allah"."
NYC Comptroller's report slams Mayor Adams on migrant contract spending - "The cost of comparable migrant services provided by contractors hired by Mayor Eric Adams’ administration “varied widely” and came in “significantly higher” than what the city typically pays, leading to mismanaged taxpayer dollars"

Borderless Welfare State. The Consequences of Immigration for Public Finances - "Do immigrants contribute to public finances? Do welfare states attract and benefit immigrant groups? Is immigration necessary to bear the costs of an ageing population? What is the role of education and cultural factors in all this? And what about the second generation? A multidisciplinary team of four experienced researchers inves- tigated this topic in the Netherlands. They had access to unique anonymised microdata from Statistics Netherlands on all inhabitants of the country. In estimating the fiscal impact of immigration, the net lifetime contribution of immigrants to public coffers was estimated by employing the method of generational accounting. The result is this book, with the eloquent title Borderless Wel- fare State. It answers the questions, contains a wealth of previously unpublished information, and draws conclusions with strong policy relevance. The findings may inspire researchers and policymakers in other countries, particularly in Europe, with a comparable welfare state. An earlier version of this book sparked debate in the Nether- lands. The Dutch government stated that they did not need this type of information. One could only guess the underlying reason for this position. Is it the inconvenient message from Borderless Welfare State that, if immigration continues by the current numbers and composition, welfare states like the Dutch one be- come unsustainable?...
Finally, we would like to thank the University of Amsterdam (UvA) who hosted us for our research project. Two of the researchers were seconded to the UvA. The UvA also advanced the costs of Statis- tics Netherlands (CBS) microdata for the Renaissance Institute. Unfortunately, the UvA did not react positively to the publication of the 1st edition. The UvA was of the opinion that we had wrongly used the UvA logo on the report, while this was the result of contractual obligations to publish ‘under own name’ – i.e. the name of the UvA – which the university itself had entered into with the CBS. Co-author professor emeritus Joop Hartog received an ultimatum at 9:30 p.m. on the day of publication: "If the [logo] is still there tomorrow at noon, I will request the personnel department to immediately termi- nate your hospitality [guest appointment]." The next day, the threat – after decades of loyal service to the UvA and a glorious academic career – was carried out. Joop Hartog was also deposed as chairman of a number of already planned PhD ceremonies. This very sordid affair even made it into the national press. In the end, the UvA was unable to present any valid arguments as to why the logo should not be on the cover of our report, and the withdrawal of Joop Hartog's guest appointment was reversed, but no public apologies were forthcoming. The whole affair underlines how sensitive the subject of study of this report still is and thus also the necessity of this report."

Austria: 3 sex workers brutally murdered by Afghan migrant in Vienna brothel - "Police say the 27-year-old Afghan targeted the women with a knife, slaughtering three of the girls, while another one on duty locked herself in a room. The eyewitness, who never actually saw the murder suspect, told police she heard the screams of her colleagues from another room. She managed to flee the brothel unharmed, but police are describing her as “severely traumatized.” The scene of violence was apparently spread throughout the erotic massage parlor, with investigators describing “terrible images.” The women were beaten badly, disfigured, and stabbed so many times that police initially struggled to identify the victims... Police believe the Afghan suspect, who has been continuously applying for asylum since 2022, may have entered the erotic studio late in the evening and may have been the last guest. The women who worked there may have tried to turn him away, which police argue may have been “an insult to his honor,” which sent the man into a rage. Police describe the murders as especially brutal, as the girls were stabbed dozens of times during the attack."

Sex worker would ban Arabs from brothels because they are 'aggressive,' says Germans are her best customers - "A sex worker who migrated from Romania to work in Germany says the first thing she would do if she were the boss of her brothel is to ban Arabs, saying they are “aggressive,” according to an interview from left-leaning Der Freitag newspaper... She also says that Germans are her favorite customers, saying “They treat us with respect. That makes my work easier.” The interviewer appears to take umbrage with this statement and says, “But don’t you really despise them? Be honest.” She responds: “I despise them when they put their wives down, when they say, ‘My wife totally sucks in bed,’ because they want me to feel special.”... Despite her desire to ban all Arabs, she complains that she faces discrimination in the job market because she is a dark-skinned Roma. When asked about getting a “normal” job, she says it is not possible: “First of all, you have to speak German well, otherwise they won’t take you. Second, because I’m brown, they wouldn’t take me anyway,” she claims, despite numerous retailers hiring brown-skinned employees across Germany.
Austria: 17 migrant minors arrested for year-long gang rape of Vienna schoolgirl - "Seventeen young people between the ages of 13 and 18 were arrested in Austria on Thursday accused of conducting a harrowing long-term ordeal of sexual abuse against a 12-year-old girl. Police in Vienna seized the suspected male rape gang after the victim filed a complaint claiming to have been forced by her boyfriend to have sex with his friends before being passed around “like a trophy” for over a year... The gang allegedly took multiple videos of the attacks which took place over a sustained period in various locations, including a parking garage, an apartment, and a communal stairwell... the victim can be heard repeatedly shouting “Stop!” in the footage saved on the seized cell phones as she is raped by multiple perpetrators. She was subsequently blackmailed with the existence of the footage to remain silent with her tormentors vowing to spread it to her family and friends if she contacted the authorities... They all had the same story, claiming the victim had “made herself look older and pretended to be a 14-year-old” – the age of consent in Austria – and insisted that all acts were “consensual.”"
Austrian schoolgirl found dead in Afghan refugee's apartment, drugged and raped - "A 14-year-old schoolgirl was found dead on Tuesday morning in the Viennese apartment of an Afghan refugee who entered Austria during the migrant wave of 2015. The girl’s lifeless body was located in the Simmering district of the Austrian capital where it is suspected she was held, drugged, and raped before ultimately dying from a drug overdose. The tenant, a 26-year-old Afghan national, who claims to have only had “consensual sex” with the girl, has been arrested and remains in police custody... The case has potentially damaging implications for politicians across the party divide with questions for several politicians as to how the man was allowed to remain in Austria. After his first application was rejected, the Austrian courts granted him subsidiary protection on appeal allowing him to roam freely across the country. This protection was extended twice, first under the FPÖ Interior Minister Herbert Kickl in 2018 and again under ÖVP Interior Minister Karl Nehammer, the current chancellor of Austria. Following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan back in 2021, the suspect’s deportation back to his home country became impractical, and he was subsequently granted leave to remain in Austria... It has striking similarities to the harrowing case of 13-year-old Austrian schoolgirl Leonie, whose brutal gang rape and murder by three Afghan nationals in 2021 received national condemnation. The bruised body of the victim was discovered by passers-by leaning against a tree next to Viktor-Kaplan-Strasse in the Austrian capital. Leonie was found strangled with her body dumped in a green strip close to the apartment of one of the attackers in Vienna-Donaustadt. A Viennese court found back in 2022 that the Afghan migrants had plied the minor with ecstasy with the intention of raping her, and an autopsy report concluded she died of a drug overdose and asphyxiation... The gang, including boys from Syria, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Serbia, had reportedly filmed the abuse and threatened to make it go viral on social media if the schoolgirl ever reported them to the authorities. They were subsequently released after just one day in custody, leading the victim’s family to express their concern for the safety of the girl who feared the gang would come for revenge."

How did Newsnight end up defending a Syrian child rapist? - "Omar Badreddin was sentenced to 18 years in prison, after being found guilty of five counts of rape and violent disorder. Badreddin, along with his brother and two other men, were part of a grooming gang that abused girls between the ages of 12 and 14. Newcastle Crown Court heard how the Badreddin brothers plied a 13-year-old with alcohol and raped her multiple times. Omar Badreddin had come to the UK from Syria as a refugee. Unusually though for a grooming gang member, he was the subject of a BBC documentary, which aired in 2016. The aim of the Newsnight series was to follow the journey of a refugee family who had settled in Newcastle to rebuild their lives after the Syrian war. Mr Steerpike imagines the programme was meant to be a heart-warming tale about overcoming adversity. Unfortunately, the programme was derailed when one member of the family, Omar Badreddin, then aged 18, was charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl. The BBC was accused of sitting on this information for several weeks, until it finally aired a programme discussing the allegations. Even then, the programme’s main concern appeared to be about the impact on community tensions, after Nigel Farage had warned about sex attacks by refugees. In the event, Omar Badreddin was found not guilty by a Newcastle jury in 2016. There had been several issues with translations in the trial and there were said to be inconsistencies with the evidence against him. Still, Newsnight’s reporting once Badreddin had been cleared looked more like PR for the family, than an impartial look at the trial. For the BBC website, a Newsnight correspondent wrote that ‘The family told me ever since their son’s arrest, they have felt humiliated and dishonoured, even though they were certain their son was innocent.’ Newsnight then released a full documentary, entitled ‘To hell and back’, which suggested that Badreddin’s recent ordeal was worse than what the family had faced in Syria. In an interview with the programme, Badreddin was able to claim that the 14-year-old had been motivated by racism against foreigners and had made up the allegations against him. Newsnight failed to challenge this, merely stating that the claims about the sexual assault were ‘impossible to explore’... the presenter chided those who believed cultural differences might be to blame, and suggested that for the Badreddins, ‘vindication has come too late to repair the repetitional damage a family with so little prizes so much.’ It’s fair to say the Newsnight coverage makes for uncomfortable viewing now that Badreddin has been convicted of multiple offences... It’s certainly true that the BBC could not have known that Badreddin would go on to be charged with another sex crime. But why did it air an unchallenged accusation that a 14-year-old was racist and had made up a sexual assault? Was it possible that the BBC’s broader view on immigration allowed its coverage to be skewed? Once again, the Corporation has difficult questions to answer…"
The year Europe woke up to its Islamist problem - "On 2 November, Austria’s capital city, Vienna, was rocked by a string of Islamist attacks in which four people were killed and 22 injured. Kujtim Fejzullai was given a 22-month prison sentence in April 2019 for attempting to join Islamic State jihadists in Syria. However, he was paroled eight months into his sentence. Before unleashing his deadly act of terror, Fejzullai is said to have participated in a ‘deradicalisation’ scheme supported by the European Union (the DERAD project). Austria’s interior minister, Karl Nehammer, went as far as to say that Fejzullai had ‘fooled’ de-radicalisation practitioners into believing that he had detached himself from his extremist Islamist views. Ultimately, he tricked the authorities into facilitating his premature release from prison. Before carrying out the attack, Fejzullai pledged allegiance to Islamic State on Instagram, under the name Abu Dujana al-Albani... For years, European liberal elites have overestimated the willingness of newcomers from unstable Muslim-majority societies to integrate into European liberal democracy. And they have underestimated the potentially devastating effects of failed social and cultural integration. Islamist extremism is a poison which has now taken root in much of Europe, posing a fundamental threat to the rule of law, basic liberal freedoms and broader social stability."

Blasphemy demos ‘are growing in radicalism’ - "Britain faces an alarming rise in intimidation and threats of violence against those perceived to have insulted Islam, a new report will warn. Protests condemning acts of apparent blasphemy have become more frequent and radicalised, according to independent research commissioned by the government’s counterextremism chief. The report, seen by The Times, exposes links between activists at the forefront of recent protests in the UK and an extremist Islamist political party in Pakistan whose members have regularly called for blasphemers to be beheaded. It concluded that a new generation of activists is trying to make blasphemy “a key area of concern for British Muslims”... Robin Simcox, the government’s counterextremism tsar, commissioned the research after three blasphemy flashpoints in the UK: the 2021 protests against a teacher in Batley, West Yorkshire, who received death threats and is still in hiding after showing pupils a cartoon of the prophet Mohammed; Birmingham protests the following year over the screening of the film The Lady in Heaven, which depicted Mohammed’s daughter; and last year’s controversy in Wakefield, also in West Yorkshire, after a copy of the Quran was slightly damaged at a high school. The report concluded that each incident was linked to “a new generation of UK-based anti-blasphemy activists who are working to make blasphemy a key issue of concern for British Muslims”. They have targeted the Ahmadi Muslim sect, whose beliefs are viewed by activists as blasphemous, and non-Muslims who are seen to have insulted Islam, usually by disrespecting either Mohammed or the Quran. It described as “most alarming” the emergence of a UK wing of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), a political party that was temporarily banned there because of violent rallies and its support for mob executions of perceived blasphemers. British mosques have hosted speakers who are supportive of TLP and each of the protests in Batley, Wakefield and Birmingham involved activists with links. The report warned that such rhetoric “has the potential to radicalise their audience around the issue of blasphemy” and that this in turn “may increase the likelihood of sectarian violence and terrorism in the UK”. The report stresses that most UK-based blasphemy activists have rejected violence and condemn terrorist acts such as the 2015 shooting attack in Paris on the offices of Charlie Hebdo, the satirical magazine, in which 17 people died. However, it says many are calling for stricter laws in the UK against blasphemy and seek to criminalise insults against Islam, which they present as part of a wider war on the faith by so-called enemies of Islam in the West... Meleagrou-Hitchens uncovered a UK wing of the TLP that has reportedly organised at least three street protests: in 2021 to protest the French government’s support for cartoonists who depicted Mohammed; that same year to object to the Pakistan government’s ban on the TLP; and in January 2023 after an anti-Islam activist in Sweden burned a Quran. At the most recent protest, speakers praised Khadim Rizvi, the late founder of TLP who had a long record of calling for and supporting vigilante violence and murder against accused blasphemers. One said that “when it comes to the honour of the Quran we will … sacrifice our lives and also the lives of the enemies”... when there was an incident at a high school in Wakefield over damage done to a Quran, the local Jamia Swafia mosque held a meeting in which one of the boys was criticised and told that “the slightest bit of disrespect [against Islam and the Quran] is not accepted”."
