"They certainly give very strange names to diseases." - Plato

Hilarity ensues when man reminisces to ST about the "good ole days" when a bowl of noodles cost 1 cent and boys were boys, men were men and policemen still wore shorts:

YOUR LETTERS

Lately, I have noticed on a number of occasions that boys here are wearing shorts that are way too short.

To cite an example: Recently, my teenage son showed me some photographs taken of his soccer buddies on his digital camera.

One group photo showed one of his friends, squatting in the front row, wearing very short shorts - so short that one of my young daughters, who saw the picture, exclaimed that the boy's private parts could be seen.

I then approached the boy in question and told him kindly not to wear such short shorts in future.

To my surprise, he made a rude remark in reply, which was very unbecoming of a student from a top secondary school here.

In my days during the 1970s, we would have been caned in front of the whole school for offences like indecent exposure and rudeness.

Schools here should teach their students to be mindful of how they dress in public.
