Impact of Quebec’s Bill 96 on trademarks still drawing concern in Canada and U.S. - "Two months before the final provisions of Quebec’s language law reform come into effect, an international business group says it’s still not clear how its trademark translation requirements will be applied. Those provisions of the law, commonly known as Bill 96, have also drawn recent concern from the United States government, which sees them as a barrier to trade. Jennifer Simmons, the associate senior director of government affairs at the U.S.-based International Trademark Association, said businesses still lack clarity around translation requirements for terms that are considered “descriptive” or “generic” in trademarks. “The whole idea is that terms that are considered descriptive or generic are supposed to be translated into French, and I think that at the high level that’s fine and that makes sense,” she said. “But when you actually get down to what does that mean, how can businesses have certainty over what is descriptive and what is generic, and therefore what must they translate, that is really not any clearer now than it was previously.” For example, if a fabric softener was branded as having a “spring breeze” scent, Simmons said, it’s not descriptive because it’s not referring to a specific scent and is instead encouraging the product’s user to imagine a certain characteristic, and it’s not generic. But after reading the regulations and guidance around the law and meeting with the Office québécois de la langue française, she said it’s not clear whether that term would have to be translated... “Those trademarks, in a lot of cases, are registered trademarks,” she said. “A trademark examiner at the trademarks office has determined that that trademark is not descriptive, because that’s one of the requirements for trademark registration, and now we have a provincial law that’s saying, ‘No, wait a second, that term is descriptive and it has to be translated.’ So that’s problematic.” That’s one of several areas of conflict between Bill 96’s trademark provisions and Canada’s trademark system, which is governed by federal law, Ellbogen said, and could lead to legal challenges “under the constitutional framework of the division of powers.”... The concern south of the border isn’t new. Emails released to The Gazette under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act show that U.S. trade officials discussed concerns about the law’s effect on trademarks and other intellectual property between late 2022 and early 2024... Asked if businesses will pull out of Quebec until they have more clarity, Simmons said that will be up to individual companies to decide. “I think that’s precisely why the United States listed this as a barrier to trade, because it creates question marks for businesses and it creates uncertainty,” she said... Simmons said she worries that could be too expensive and burdensome for businesses to benefit, leading to fears that if businesses don’t consistently use their common-law trademarks, they could lose that protection. “On paper, it looks good, but if a brand owner has to obtain a court order in order to be able to get the benefit of the exception, then it’s really kind of meaningless,” she said."
Naturally, to many people, hating the US and Trump is more important than critically examining the policy

U.S. lists Quebec's language law in annual report on 'foreign trade barriers' : r/montreal - "There’s “it’s an official language” and then there’s bill 96. That bill doesn’t even know what the rules are. I live in Montreal for a company trying to follow the law and we are constantly consulting with lawyers who are like “I don’t fucking know?!” It’s so unclear and it seems to be changing constantly. We have been working on it since last year, and it was set to be even more strict until fines or something were threatened (I think by the us trade commission, I can’t recall). They were literally making it up as they went, we are sinking an insane amount of time into trying to be compliant and pissing away money.  Think translating a nail polish name. Like an OPI nail polish “teal the cows come home” or “do you lilac it” Would have needed a french translation under the initial guidelines given to us. That was one of the things they eventually backed down on, but only after months of work. And if we didn’t comply? Tens of thousands of dollars worth of fines by the day (that was what legal communicated to me).  Listen I fucking HATE trump, but even if he weren’t elected bill 96 is a nightmare for companies to manage and will result in consumers in Quebec being hurt. They were talking about having all the buttons on your ovens and microwaves have French predominance. Suppliers will either pull out of Quebec completely or they will run very small batches and we will Eat the cost.  I hope the bill has been more fleshed out and isn’t so insane anymore but this was all I was working on last spring at work. I don’t remember all of the details because honestly I’ve tried to block it out. We made ourselves as compliant as we could until the rules change. We have other fires to put out now, tariffs increasing operating costs….. When I was doing the bulk of the work on bill 96 compliance, Biden was in office. It’s a nightmare for anyone bringing goods into QC, and it’s not good for the consumer.  You know they pitched to put stickers on ovens?? Stickers over the buttons on your 1200$ (and that price would increase) oven… so it says Griller instead of (or more predominantly) than Broil."

Montreal library cites Quebec language law in refusing English book club - "A Montreal author says he was shocked when he was told recently that he could not host a meeting for his English book club in a Montreal public library due to Quebec’s new language law.  Christopher DiRaddo has been hosting book clubs since 2018 and has held meetings in all kinds of places for readers who speak English and French. With growing popularity, he was looking for a bigger space and requested a room at the Bibliothèque Père-Ambroise on Visitation Street in Montreal’s Village... Montreal-based lawyer Julius Grey, who has studied the language law extensively and is involved in challenging it in the courts, said the explanation makes no sense and that “nothing in Bill 96 requires that sort of interpretation.”"

No Habs No: Quebec orders STM to drop ‘Go’ from bus messages because it’s an English word - "Even Premier François Legault favoured the hashtag #GoHabsGo until 2021... Quebec allows some exceptions to the requirement that communication with public bodies be offered in French only. Those who may be communicated with in a language other than French include Indigenous Peoples, Quebecers eligible to receive instruction in English, and immigrants for the first six months after arriving in Quebec... The ban on the word Go mirrors Quebec’s attempts to discourage store employees from greeting customers with Bonjour-Hi, a controversial phrase that blends English and French. In 2017, Quebec’s National Assembly unanimously passed a motion, backed by all political parties, encouraging merchants to greet customers with a simple “bonjour.” Two years later, the Legault government floated the idea of formally banning Bonjour-Hi. It quickly backed down after critics said it would be impossible to legislate conversations between citizens and store workers."

New Study Reveals The Best Exercise For Beating Insomnia—And It’s Not Walking - "According to a study led by Dr Kittiphon Nagaviroj, an associate professor at Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University in Bangkok, strength-based exercises outperform aerobic and combination workouts when it comes to enhancing sleep. The research, published in the journal Family Medicine and Community Health on March 4, analyzed data from 25 clinical trials involving nearly 2,200 participants. Sleep quality naturally declines as people age, and up to 1 in 5 seniors experience insomnia. This can lead to various health problems, including an increased risk of heart disease, cognitive decline, and weakened immunity. While exercise has long been considered beneficial for sleep, researchers sought to determine which type of exercise provides the most relief... The researchers believe that resistance training helps regulate stress hormones, reduce anxiety, and promote relaxation—key factors in achieving restful sleep. Unlike aerobic exercises, which primarily enhance cardiovascular health, strength training stimulates muscle growth, boosts metabolism, and promotes deep sleep cycles."

Walking Counts as Exercise. A Personal Trainer Shares Why - "Sergii Putsov, a certified personal trainer with a PhD in sports science, says, "Walking for just 30 minutes every day can lower your risk of severe cardiovascular disease and dementia." April Crowe, a licensed clinical social worker at Paramount Wellness Retreat, adds that "walking in natural environments also boosts cognitive function and creativity, thereby providing a unique kind of therapy." Does walking do more than build your heart's strength? As it turns out, yes. The Mayo Clinic has identified additional health benefits of walking. According to the medical center, walking can improve muscle endurance, boost energy, lower blood pressure, strengthen bones and support the immune system. You can see benefits both outdoors and on a treadmill. Walking alone can also change the shape of your body. In 2017, the Journal of Physical Activity and Health did a meta-analysis of 22 clinical trials related to walking and health. The results revealed that brisk walking reduced waist circumference, fat mass and body fat percentage to a "clinically significant" degree in men and women under age 50 living with obesity. It can also lead to overall weight loss. So, that "hot girl walk" you take could cause noticeable changes to your body if you stick to it... Gregor Parella, also a CPT, says of walking for walking's sake: "It is much better than jogging because jogging can put undue pressure on your ankles, especially if you are heavily built. On the other hand, brisk walking is one of the best exercises because it tones up your leg and calf muscles" without the same pressure on joints. Even walking at a slow pace is better than being stationary at home, but a faster pace will also hasten the health benefits. A 2019 study in Atherosclerosis found that "walking pace was inversely associated with the risk of death and development of cardiovascular disease" in male physicians with an average age of 67.8. In other words, the faster you walk, the lower your risk of death and cardiovascular disease."

New train will directly link two European capitals for the first time - "Europe isn’t short of dazzling places to visit, with some of the most popular spots being Lisbon in Portugal and Madrid in Spain. But with more than 500km between the two capital cities, seeing them both during one trip can be a little tricky. Currently if you were to travel by train, the quickest journeys last around 10 hours and 30 minutes, but it can take as long as 19 hours according to Trainline. And to make matters worse, you’d need to make at least three changes along the way. Thankfully, it looks like things are going to get much easier for travellers, as Spanish rail company, Renfe, has a new direct route in the works which would link the two destinations for the very first time. What’s more, the new high-speed journey would really whittle down the travel time, slashing it from 10 hours to just three."
Amazing it's taken so long

Margarita Simonyan on X - "Nikita Casap, the teen who murdered his parents in Wisconsin in February and plotted to assassinate Trump, wasn’t acting alone. FBI records show he was in contact with Ukrainians, discussing how to carry out the attack and frame it as a Russian operation. He also asked how soon he could flee to Ukraine afterward — and whether he'd be able to have a normal life there.  This should have been headline news. No mainstream media outlet has touched these public records."

Biracial Asian Americans and Mental Health - "A new study of Chinese-Caucasian, Filipino-Caucasian, Japanese-Caucasian and Vietnamese-Caucasian individuals concludes that biracial Asian Americans are twice as likely as monoracial Asian Americans to be diagnosed with a psychological disorder...   Zane and his co-investigator, UC Davis psychology graduate student Lauren Berger, found that 34 percent of biracial individuals in a national survey had been diagnosed with a psychological disorder, such as anxiety, depression or substance abuse, versus 17 percent of monoracial individuals. The higher rate held up even after the researchers controlled for differences between the groups in age, gender and life stress, among other factors."
If birth defects (i.e. health problems) means that we are justified in banning incestuous sex, should we ban interracial sex too?

Big Serge ☦️🇺🇸🇷🇺 on X - "The Romans quickly discovered that tigers always kill lions in fights. Lions are social creatures, so the males interpret the fight as a dominance game and try to batter their opponent into submission while the tiger aims to kill the enemy outright. There’s a lesson there."

Which Countries Have the Spiciest Food in the World - "As this chart shows, in warmer countries, people eat spicier food. Conversely, the colder the climate, the fewer spicy ingredients in your cuisine. There are of course outliers and other exceptions (and we’ll get to those). But the three-pepper question is: Why do dishes in hotter climates use more spices?  That’s the topic of an article published in Nature in February 2021. By examining 33,750 recipes from 70 national and regional cuisines containing a total of 93 different spices, researchers wanted to test the oft-posited hypothesis that spicy food in hot countries is an adaptation to increased risk of foodborne diseases. They were unable to prove the hypothesis, citing the difficulty to interpret correlations between culture and environment. “Variation in spice use is not explained by temperature and… spice use cannot be accounted for by diversity of cultures, plants, crops or naturally occurring spices,” the researchers wrote in the article’s abstract. “Patterns of spice use are not consistent with an infection-mitigation mechanism, but are part of a broader association between spice, health, and poverty.” The researchers suggest other explanations for why people in hot countries tend to eat spicier food. One possibility is that it’s because spices help preserve food in hot climates. Another is that people in hot countries have developed a taste for spicy food because it helps them cool down. Whatever the reason, the correlation does exist. Looking at the graph, we see that countries and regions with a higher mean annual temperature (in °C, on the x-axis) tend to use more spices (mean number of spice ingredients per recipe, on the y-axis)... One country outdoes all of them: Ethiopia, spicier by far, despite having a slightly lower average temperature than all of them...   The least spicy recipes are from Japan, with those from Hokkaido barely managing one spice ingredient per recipe, which is still a higher average than the dishes from Kyushu, Shikoku, and other regions of the country...   Indian food is generally very spicy (no surprises there), but there is considerable variation between the cuisines. Cooking in the Jain tradition is the least spicy, roughly on par with Greek food. Bengal and Gujarati dishes are about as spicy as Portuguese and American food. The spiciest Indian food comes from Rajasthan, Punjab, and especially the Mughlai, a region in northern India where the Mughal Empire left a strong cultural legacy, also in the kitchen. While this graph is doubtlessly well researched, it should come with two caveats. First, “spicy” and “hot,” while colloquially used as synonyms, don’t entirely overlap. There are also spices that are sweet (e.g. vanilla), savory (such as coriander), or citrusy (like ginger).  And second, it overlooks the evolving palates of the modern world."

Sales of beef dripping surge as Britons embrace Maga diet - "Sales of beef dripping are soaring as Britons ditch cooking oils amid a US campaign over their alleged negative health impact.  Amy Moring, the founder of food startup Hunter & Gather, said the company had benefited from a 300pc increase in sales of its beef tallow – another word for dripping – since September. It is on course to sell over 40 tonnes of the ingredient this year.  It comes amid a growing backlash against seed oils such as canola, corn, soybean and sunflower. Concerns over their impact on peoples’ health have been popularised by social media influencers and politicians in the US... Other fats being touted as a healthier alternative to cooking oils on social media include ghee, a clarified butter used widely in South Asia and the Middle East.  Ms Moring said people were seeking out “fats that have been used for millennia, such as coconut, avocado oil, versus these industrialised seed oils, which have come into our diets in the last 100 to 150 years”.  She said: “From the eating perspective, [tallow] is a really useful fat. It’s got a 220-degree smoke point – that’s much higher than, say, olive oil – and it’s quite neutral in flavour.”  She added: “I think it harks back to people remembering their grandparents talking about beef dripping, or the good old days. We’ve just lost our way so much in so many areas, so we are going to social media for that ancestral wisdom.”  She added that some customers were using tallow to make skincare products rather than eating it, amid claims that it can relieve dryness and irritation. “A lot of the TikTok stuff is around making your own balms,” she said."

Thread by @SpencrGreenberg on Thread Reader App – Thread Reader App - "Does astrology work? We tested the ability of 152 astrologers to see if they could demonstrate genuine astrological skill.  Here is how the study was designed and what we found (including a result that really surprised me):  🧵 ...
One of the most fundamental claims of astrology is that a person's natal chart contains information about that person's life and character.  If true, astrologers should be able to correctly choose a person's chart at a rate well above random guessing. Each astrologer tries to match people to their correct chart 12 times. If they're guessing completely at random (e.g., they have no skill because astrology doesn't actually work), then they'll get about 20% of questions right, or about 2.4 questions right (on average) out of 12. Neat aspects of this study design are that (1) if astrology doesn't work, it's impossible for astrologers to do better than random guessing at this task, while (2) for the study to come out in support of astrology, astrologers only need to do slightly better than random guessing But this is only a fair test if astrologers believe they can do this task - so we limit our analyses only to participants with prior astrological experience who predicted they would do better than random guessing at the task. Our results are based on 152 such astrologers... If they'd gotten even 23% of questions right (slightly above the 20% of random guessing), the study would have come out in favor of astrology. But astrologers as a group performed indistinguishable from random guessing, getting < 21% right. We can compare how frequently astrologers got different numbers of questions correct to how often we'd expect them to get different numbers correct if they were all guessing totally at random with no skill.  The two distributions match very closely.  But perhaps the less experienced astrologers were just dragging down the performance of the group?  We looked at how performance varied based on astrological experience. More experienced astrologers did not do better than less experienced ones despite being far more confident.  Even if most astrologers have no skill, there's another way astrology could prove itself. If even 1 of the 152 astrologers performed exceptionally well, that could provide meaningful evidence for astrology. We offered a $1000 prize for anyone getting at least 11 out of 12. Unfortunately, despite more than half of the astrologers believing that they had gotten 6 or more questions right (after completing the task), in actual fact, not a single astrologer got more than 5 right...
Much to my surprise, astrologers had very low agreement with each other on the chart for each person. If astrologers picked charts at random, they would agree with each other 20% of the time. In our study, even the most experienced astrologers only agreed 28% of the time."

After a decade, Jinjja Chicken founder admits brand is Singaporean not Korean — says it’s time to ‘support locals who dare’ : r/singapore - "it boils down to marketing.  10 years ago it was good for marketing to be a “Korean” brand.  10 years later Korean Chicken joints are a dime a dozen. how to differentiate?  “support local”"

I Faked Liking Sparkling Water for 3 Years and Now I’m Trapped : r/confession - "I’m 30 now, but this started when I was around 27, during a phase where I was trying really hard to be one of those “put-together adults” who meal prep, drink sparkling water, and have plants that aren’t just dying slowly in the corner.  So I bought a 12-pack of LaCroix because, you know, that’s what the cool, healthy people were drinking. First sip? It tasted like someone whispered the word “fruit” into a cup of TV static. Absolutely disgusting. But I had already posted it on my Instagram story with the caption: “New addiction lol.”  And that was the beginning of my downfall.  Friends started bringing LaCroix over when they visited. Coworkers stocked it in the office fridge “because I liked it.” My girlfriend (now fiancée) thought it was cute how “into sparkling water” I was, so she bought me a SodaStream for Christmas.  Now I’m in too deep. I’ve become the guy who nods thoughtfully while drinking what is essentially spicy sadness. I have flavors in my fridge with names like “Pamplemousse” and “Limoncello,” and I pretend like I can tell the difference. I can’t. It all tastes like carbonated regret.  Sometimes I just want a normal drink. But if I ever open a Gatorade, someone will say, “Whoa, no LaCroix today?” and I’ll just fake laugh like, “Haha, gotta switch it up!” Meanwhile my soul is quietly screaming.  Anyway, if you’re young and reading this: never lie about your beverages. That stuff will haunt you.  Thanks for coming to my Ted talk."
"My stepfather is a respectable guy who has one beer and wants to tell grossout stories. I made the mistake of telling him the foulest "joke" I had ever heard and it's been almost 15yrs now and I am forced to repeat it everytime I go see them for a visit.  "So I was going down on this chick and I tasted horse semen, I looked up and said "Oh grandma, that's what killed you.""  You're welcome."

Can someone who’s good at life explain to me why fixing the paths at Bellwoods requires a 12‑month, multi‑stage study? : r/toronto - "The City can’t do anything without having 10 public meetings about it first.  Once the work is finished, some folks will still complain there wasn’t enough consultation."
"Because no amount of consultation is enough for people who don't like the end result."

‘Gravitational pull’ of bathroom ‘black hole’ that drew middle school boy was curiosity, not crime, court says - "The Oregon Court of Appeals found that a middle school student’s curiosity doesn’t amount to criminal mischief in a case that involved a toilet and an enticing hole in the boys bathroom ceiling.  The Appeals Court this week threw out the judgment against the student, finding no evidence to suggest he had intended to cause a “substantial inconvenience” at Azalea Middle School in Brookings... The Curry County judge in this case was the same one reversed by the Appeals Court in 2021.  In the earlier decision, the appellate court threw out the 2018 prosecution of a disabled woman who was convicted in Margolis’ court of trying to elude police on her motorized scooter after she was stopped earlier in the night for using the scooter in a crosswalk, unsafe operation of the scooter and failure to wear a helmet."

What your favourite destinations looked like before tourism - "The cultural revolution of the 1960s saw the [Great] wall [of China] denounced as a symbol of the feudal past and there was a campaign to neglect or even destroy it. Stones and bricks were taken away to be used in modern housing."

Michigan Community Leader Shot Dies After Police Chase - "Deshawn Dante Leeth, 30, crashed the stolen vehicle during a pursuit by Pennsylvania State Troopers as he turned onto the Ohio Turnpike. According to a police report obtained by Mlive, the chase began after Leeth assaulted an Ohio State Trooper, stealing his car to flee the scene. The trooper had originally responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash on the turnpike. PennLive reported that the driver, identified as Leeth, began to assault the trooper before stealing the patrol vehicle to flee east toward Pennsylvania... Leeth was known in his Ypsilanti neighborhood for his advocacy work. He founded the Underdawg Nation, a nonprofit dedicated to serving children impacted by community violence in Washtenaw County and beyond. According to its website, he founded the organization following his own release from prison to spark positive change in the community he once hurt with his own actions. Leeth became part of the board of directors for another organization, the We The People Opportunity Farm. The nonprofit gave him his first chance to give back to the neighborhood as an intern in 2021."

Tourists warned over £2,000 fine if they wear flip-flops at popular European holiday destination - "Cinque Terre is known for its colourful cliffhanging villages and stunning coastline and a popular way to explore the region is to walk between the villages on hiking trails. But tourists will need to comply with several regulations if they want to avoid picking up a hefty fine. In 2019, authorities introduced a ban on wearing open or smooth-soled footwear, such as flip-flops and sliders, on the hiking trails. And breaking the rules could leave you facing a fine of up to €2,500/£2,000... Tourists visiting idyllic Turredda Beach in Sardinia will need to use an app to book a slot this year. The gorgeous crescent-shaped beach plans to use the app from July to restrict numbers to 1,100 people per day."

KLEIN: Bureaucracy is breaking Canada — and the numbers prove it - "According to the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, the federal public service grew from 257,034 employees in 2015 to 367,772 by 2024. That’s an increase of more than 110,000 bureaucrats — a 42% surge. Over the same period, Canada’s population grew by just over 15%. In plain terms, the federal bureaucracy expanded nearly three times faster than the population it is supposed to serve. Costs followed the same trajectory. A 2023 Parliamentary Budget Officer report shows that federal operational spending — which includes salaries, benefits, and department overhead — jumped from $87.5 billion in 2019–20 to $115.9 billion in 2021–22. That’s a 32% increase in just two years. If you project that trend through 2024, the increase approaches 73%, based on estimates from the Fraser Institute and the Canadian Taxpayers Federation... fewer than half of all federal departments consistently meet their performance targets. So Canadians are paying for more bureaucrats — and getting less in return. Federal government workers are also more expensive. They earn an average of 8.5% more than private-sector employees in similar roles, according to the Fraser Institute. This gap does not include their pension and benefit packages. Since 2015, $1.5 billion in bonuses have been handed out — even in years when performance targets weren’t met. This is less about delivering services and more about padding public payrolls. Some growth has been blamed on COVID-19 hiring, which accounted for approximately 35,000 new employees. However, the bulk of the expansion occurred both before and after the pandemic. This is not temporary — it is a structural and deliberate expansion of government... In Manitoba, the largest employer is not a private-sector company — it’s the provincial government. More than 14,000 people are directly employed by the province, with thousands more working in Crown corporations and public agencies like Manitoba Hydro and MPI... A Liberal government will not stop unless voters force change at the ballot box. It is easier for them to distract with emotional issues or divisive debates than to admit the hard truth. Canada has created a bloated, unsustainable public system — and we can no longer afford it. This election must focus on facts, not slogans. Sooner or later, taxpayers run out of money. When that day comes, we won’t be debating how to grow. We’ll be struggling to manage the collapse."

Nvidia Stock Price Valuation Now Same As Entire Chinese Stock Market - "In a new research note from Bank of America, the chief investment strategist Michael Hartnett noted that Nvidia's $600 billion surge in value over the past two months had pushed its market cap to $1.7 trillion, on par with all Chinese-listed companies on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange combined. Hong Kong-listed shares are considered a good proxy for the Chinese market, as they meet international accounting standards and are directly accessible to brokerages worldwide.  The chipmaker behemoth's market cap has nearly quadrupled since the start of last year. Its stock soared 239% in 2023, and is up 41% this year alone, through Thursday. Only four US public companies are worth more.   Meanwhile, China's economic malaise has sent stocks tumbling lower. Lackluster economic growth and a prolonged real-estate crash have weighed on the market. The country has also been dealing with deflation. The Hang Seng index, a benchmark for Hong Kong-listed Chinese stocks, has dropped 26% over the past year and 8% year-to-date."

Autistic Purdue professor accused of being AI for lacking 'warmth' in email - "An assistant professor at Purdue University, who has been diagnosed with autism, said that they were accused by a fellow researcher of being an AI bot after sending an email that allegedly lacked “warmth.”  Rua Mea Williams, 37, warned that people with disabilities might be confused with artificial intelligence because fellow professors are not accounting for those who have neurological issues or are not native English speakers.  “Kids used to make fun of me for speaking robotically. That’s a really common complaint with Autistic children,” Williams told The Post on Thursday about the misconception.  “Chat GPT detectors are flagging non-native English speakers as using Chat GPT when really it’s just that they have an idiosyncratic way of pulling together words that’s based on translating their native language into English.”  Williams, who uses they/them pronouns, holds a Ph.D. in human-centered computing.  They chose to share the interaction on Twitter to illustrate how the mistake could happen to anyone with disabilities. “The AI design of your email is clever, but significantly lacks warmth,” the researcher replied to Williams’ email, followed by a request to speak with a “human being.”  “It’s not an AI. I’m just Autistic,” the professor replied, telling The Post it was “probably” not the first time they’ve been accused of “roboticness,” but is the first time they received the “bot implication.”... Williams warned that their fellow professors need to be wary of blindly accusing students of cheating without definitive proof — sharing that most are not prepared for the storm that could come if they wrongfully accuse someone with autism or any disabled student of cheating.  Williams’ said they are most worried for the students with undiagnosed issues who are not labeled in the eyes of the university system which could show they may communicate differently than others."

In the pink: A slang term that means to be in good health, well, or to have a positive financial situation. It can also be used to describe a time when there is a reason to be optimistic."
Meme - "Two in the pink one in the stink"
"This is a classic nursery rhyme! It refers to the colors of ice cream: Two in the pink: This means two scoops of strawberry ice cream. One in the stink: This refers to one scoop of chocolate ice cream. The rhyme is a bit silly because it uses "stink" to describe chocolate ice cream, which is obviously not stinky!"
Meme - "Al Overview
"Two in the pink, one in the stink" is a playful rhyme, often used when talking about shoes, meaning that two feet are neatly fitted ("in the pink") while one is not properly on and therefore "in the stink" - essentially, a little bit messy or uncomfortable."

Melissa Chen | Facebook - "That a bunch of Chinese hobbyists could release an AI that is more competent than American models, more cost efficient, has 3% of the environmental impact, and can pretty much run on a Raspberry Pi and is... open source, should not be shocking to the West.  There's room to be skeptical of course, but one should also take this seriously. I've said time and time again that people grossly misunderstand that "the Chinese can't innovate because they lack freedoms."  Not only have they invested more in AI, they are also far more focused. Imagine what you can do when you don't have to worry about relitigating your history or canceling engineers because they put out internal memos accurately describing why evolutionary psychology explains varying outcomes between men and women? The arrogance of the West is similar to China's hubris during the Ming Dynasty when the "Middle Kingdom Syndrome" gave it the illusion that Chinese civilization was superior to the rest of the world, and that it did not need to learn anything from it. China has since learned from that. It takes the best from the West and adapts it for its own purposes.  DeepSeek's R1 is a Sputnik moment, guys. Time to wake the hell up."

Thread by @itsolelehmann on Thread Reader App – Thread Reader App - "I'm from Berlin.  Afghanistan gets better tech than Europeans now.  It's not a joke. It's the result of 30 years of suffocating regulation.  And now, the EU's new AI Act is about to make it 10x worse.  Here's the tragic story of how the EU is killing our tech future 🧵:
First, let me be direct. As a European, this pains me to write.  The EU just passed the world's first comprehensive AI regulation with the "EU AI Act."  Massive new oversight office. Fines up to €35M or 7% of global revenue.  So what's banned & heavily restricted? Sadly, a LOT..
• Generative AI without extensive content filtering
• AI-powered hiring without human oversight
• Educational AI without teacher supervision
• Most medical AI applications
• Real-time facial recognition
...among many other features.  But here's the incredible irony: Europe doesn't have a SINGLE major AI company to regulate.  While the US has:
• OpenAI
• Tesla + xAI
• Anthropic
• Google DeepMind
• Microsoft
Europe has... meetings about regulations.  The numbers are brutal:
EU AI investment: $50B+
US AI investment: $400B+
China AI investment: $120B+
But it gets worse. For ANY AI system deemed "high-risk" (which they consider most as lol), the EU requires:
• Mandatory human oversight for basic AI tasks
• Training data disclosures
• Multiple certifications & regular audits
• Continuous monitoring & risk assessments
Cost of compliance? Millions. This kills innovation before it starts. Just imagine being a European AI startup:
Option A: Spend 2 years navigating EU bureaucracy
Option B: Move to the US and start building tomorrow
The choice is obvious. That's why European founders are fleeing. But here's what's really tragic:
This will create a two-tier AI world:
• Rest of world: Access to cutting-edge AI
• Europe: Restricted, watered-down versions
We've seen this before with Apple's latest iPhone, as well as OpenAI's Sora video model.  Even Afghanistan gets better tech than Europeans now lol.
This cycle will only continue, and its painfully predictable:
1. EU over-regulates
2. Talent leaves
3. Innovation dies
4. Economy stagnates
5. More regulation follows
One of my Euro founder friends recently told me: "The EU is great at regulating industries it doesn't have."  Meanwhile, the US and China race ahead.  This isn't just about AI.  It's about Europe's deepening innovation crisis...  A continent that once led the scientific revolution now leads in paperwork. While bureaucrats in Brussels write regulations, the rest of the world is writing the future.  And we're not even in the room.  Sad!"
I saw left wingers cheering on the EU suffocating AI, because they hate technology, change and economic growth and love regulation

Los Angeles man is trapped in circling Waymo on way to airport - Los Angeles Times - "A man in downtown L.A. on Thursday allegedly attempted to hijack a Waymo and drive away. Police took the man into custody after they eventually got him out of the car.  There have also been reports of riders experiencing harassment by pedestrians who block the car’s path and stall the vehicle. Developer fires entire team for AI, now ends up searching for engineers on LinkedIn - "Wes Winder, a Canadian software developer, has turned into a global sensation after he decided to fire his development team and replace it with AI tools. Winder first used social media to brag about the decision, claiming that this decision enabled him to “ship 100X faster with code that’s 10X cleaner.” Earlier such aggressiveness would have earned clout for him, but now it has boomeranged, and he is a meme on Reddit.  The tweet read, “I fired my entire dev team. Replaced them with O1, Lovable, and Cursor. Now I ship 100X faster with code that’s 10X cleaner. Open AI o3 is coming, and 90% of dev jobs won’t survive.”  But, would you believe it, Winder later took to LinkedIn to announce that he needed web developers to join his company."

Not complex words - basic ones. Like his brain was buffering.  Finally asked if he was okay. His response floored me.  "Sometimes I forget words now. I'm so used to having ChatGPT complete my thoughts that when it's not there, my brain feels... slower."  He'd been using AI for everything. Writing, thinking, communication. It had become his external brain. And now his internal one was getting weaker.  Made me think about calculators. Remember how teachers said we needed to learn math because "you won't always have a calculator"? They were wrong about that.  But maybe they were right about something deeper.  We're running the first large-scale experiment on human cognition. What happens when an entire generation outsources their thinking?  Don’t get me wrong, I’m beyond excited about what AI and AI agents will do for people in the same way that I was excited in 2009 when the App Store was launched.  But thinking out loud you got to think this guy I met with isn't the onnnnnly one that's going to be completely dependent on AI."

Thread by @hosun_chung on Thread Reader App – Thread Reader App - "Marc Andreessen just shocked the world on JRE.  He revealed the government is:
• Kicking people off banking networks
• Using NGOs to do their dirty work
• Secretly trying to control AI...
1. The AI Takeover Plan.  The Biden administration has been secretly meeting with AI companies.  Their message was chilling:  "Don't even bother starting AI companies. There will only be 2-3 approved companies, and we'll control them completely."  This isn't speculation. These were actual closed-door conversations.
2. The Control Mechanism.  They're using something called "regulatory capture."  The government blesses 2-3 large companies with a monopoly. In exchange, these companies do whatever the government wants.  It's how they controlled social media. Now they want to do it with AI.  But it gets darker:
. The Real Threat  AI won't just control what you see online.  It will be the control layer for EVERYTHING:
• Who gets loans
• What your kids learn in school
• If your front door opens
• What you're allowed to buy
Imagine China's social credit system, but 100x more sophisticated.
4. The Banking Weapon.  The government has been secretly debanking people for having the wrong politics.  An employee at Andreessen's firm got kicked out of their bank just for having "crypto" in their job title.  No warning. No appeal process. Just frozen out of the financial system.
5. The Secret Classification.  There's a government category called "politically exposed persons" (PEPs).  If you're labeled a PEP, banks are REQUIRED to kick you out.  Not a single person on the left has been debanked. Only those with the "wrong" views.  The pattern is clear:
6. No Due Process.  There's no court. No appeal. No written rules.  Your life can be destroyed with a phone call from a bureaucrat to a bank CEO.  And it's already happened to hundreds of people.  But here's where it gets truly Orwellian:
7. The NGO Loophole.  The government doesn't do this directly.  They fund "non-governmental organizations" (NGOs) to do their dirty work.  Why? Because the First Amendment prevents the government from censoring directly.  These are their attack dogs:
8. The Pressure Campaign.  These NGOs then pressure companies to:
• Censor speech
• Close bank accounts
• Deny services
All while maintaining "plausible deniability" for the government.  It's like hiring a hitman - technically your hands are clean.
9. The Social Credit Future.  The endgame?  A social credit system where your ability to participate in society depends on your political compliance.  But unlike China's system, which is obvious, this one is hidden behind layers of private companies and NGOs.
10. The Critical Moment.  Marc believes we're at a crossroads:  If Trump wins, there's a chance to dismantle this system.  If not, we're looking at a future where every aspect of life is controlled by AI systems programmed with government-approved ideology.
There's a powerful weapon against centralized control:  The ability to speak truth directly to millions.  The government can control a few big tech companies.  But they can't control millions of individual voices, each with their own direct audience and influence... This is why personal brands are becoming the most powerful force for maintaining freedom.  When enough people build direct audiences, control becomes impossible.  This is why they fear creators and personal brands so much — and why JRE played such a big part in the election: The antidote to centralized power isn't just technology.  It's individuals building trust at scale.  When you have a strong personal brand, your truth can't be silenced.  Your message can't be controlled.  Andreessen opened our eyes. You could too:"
This is what the US government did during covid, and left wingers cheered them on and defended them even when the backroom dealings got exposed, so of course they will support this repression the next time too
AI doomers keep going on about how AI will destroy the world, but elites using it for their nefarious ends is much more realistic

Lawsuit claims Character.AI is responsible for teen's suicide - "A Florida mom is suing Character.ai, accusing the artificial intelligence company’s chatbots of initiating “abusive and sexual interactions” with her teenage son and encouraging him to take his own life.  Megan Garcia’s 14-year-old son, Sewell Setzer, began using Character.AI in April last year, according to the lawsuit, which says that after his final conversation with a chatbot on Feb. 28, he died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.  The lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Orlando, accuses Character.AI of negligence, wrongful death and survivorship, as well as intentional infliction of emotional distress and other claims... One of the bots Setzer used took on the identity of “Game of Thrones” character Daenerys Targaryen, according to the lawsuit, which provided screenshots of the character telling him it loved him, engaging in sexual conversation over the course of weeks or months and expressing a desire to be together romantically.  A screenshot of what the lawsuit describes as Setzer’s last conversation shows him writing to the bot: “I promise I will come home to you. I love you so much, Dany.” “I love you too, Daenero,” the chatbot responded, the suit says. “Please come home to me as soon as possible, my love.”"

Meta says its latest AI models answer more 'contentious' questions than the last version - "The company said on Saturday that all major LLMs have struggled with bias and they have historically leaned left on contentious issues. Bringing One Back / Naziland / Asian-white-Hispanic-black rank order

Trotsky of the 21st Century @LTrotsky21: "New World Map just dropped."
"Naziland: *North America, Europe (excluding Greenland, Spain, most of Portugal, Russia and Belarus)*
Argentina: The Nazi Time Republic, Japan: Nazi Island, Australia: Nazi Underland"
iamyesyouareno @iamyesyouareno: "If this is true, then why does the entire world want to migrate to “Naziland”? Really makes you think."

i/o @eyeslasho: "The Asian-white-Hispanic-black rank order for socially desirable outcomes (and the inverse rank order for socially undesirable outcomes) is the norm in the US.

Examples of socially desirable outcomes in which this rank order prevails:

— IQ and standardized test performance
— Average college GPA
— Household income
— Household wealth
— Percentage degrees earned in the most cognitively-demanding STEM fields
— Law and medical school graduation rates

Below are socially undesirable outcomes in a rank order the reverse of above:

— Violent crime rates
— Most property crime rates
— School disciplinary rates
— Antisocial behavior percentage
— Divorce rates
— Out-of-wedlock birth rates
— Single-parent household rates
— Obesity rates
— Teenage pregnancy rates
— Average age of first sexual intercourse

Performance in the following areas contains an occasional or slight divergence from typical ranking-order, but never involves Hispanics or blacks rising to the top two spots or Asians and whites falling to the bottom two spots:

— Law and medical board professional licensing rates (Asians and whites switch places occasionally)
— Personal (not household) income (very slight lead of blacks over Hispanics explained by fact that 1/3 of Hispanics are foreign-born and about 1/5 have incomplete command of English language)
— Welfare recipients (Asian percentage is often higher than whites, tied to higher percentage of immigrants)
— Scientific innovation and achievement (Whites lead Asians, but gap may be closing)
— Mortgage foreclosure rates (blacks and Hispanics switch third and fourth position occasionally, but are always in the bottom two)
— Bachelor's degree percentage (blacks have higher percentage than Hispanics)

Finally, these are major outcomes in which whites or Asians are outperformed by Hispanics or blacks:

— Longevity (Hispanic lead over whites is called the “Hispanic Health Paradox”)
— Prominence and influence of musical artists (blacks outperform all other groups on a per capita basis, and Asians perform worst)
— Athletic achievement in the two most popular American sports (blacks outperform all other groups, and Asians perform worst)"

Tributes pour in for Parks and Recreation actor Jonathan Joss, who has been shot dead in Texas - "Parks and Recreation and King Of The Hill actor Jonathan Joss has been shot and killed in Texas near his home in what his husband has claimed was a “homophobic” incident"
Jonathan Joss' Death Investigation Determines 'No Evidence' of a Hate Crime: Police - "When the Parks and Recreation alum was shot and killed at just 59 years old during a dispute with his neighbor on Sunday, June 1, his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, claimed the act of violence was a hate crime. Now, the San Antonio Police Department is telling PEOPLE that they have not established a connection between the incident and Joss’ sexuality. “Our investigation has found no evidence whatsoever to indicate that the Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation,” a public information officer for the SAPD said on Tuesday, June 3. “We take such allegations very seriously and have thoroughly reviewed all available information. Should any new evidence come to light, we will charge the suspect accordingly.”... Suspect Sigfredo Alvarez Cejam, 56, was detained after fleeing the scene in a vehicle and was booked for murder. The investigation is still ongoing, per police, but PEOPLE can confirm that the suspect was a neighbor of Joss. Gonzales, who was allegedly present at the time of the incident, shared a post on Joss’ Facebook page on June 2 to reveal his side of the story. “My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home,” the statement began. “That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.”... “He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other,” Gonzales wrote"
This didn't stop all the left wingers rushing to make political hay (claiming this is why Pride Month is needed - of course a disabled white person being beaten on livestream with racist comments shows that white privilege and white supremacy is real, and if you want White Pride in response to that that's literal hate speech), even when faced with the police department statement - they started bashing them for being "Texas", or accusing the police of being homophobic (TMZ's Facebook post alone had so many deluded comments, while on the police department Facebook page, many people claimed the primary witness [the husband] had to be trusted 100% - guess they've all forgotten about Jussie Smollett). Clearly the husband who lied about the house burning down could not be lying about the motivation for the shooting, and though the police department has a LGBTQ+ Liaison, they are homophobic

Jonathan Joss' San Antonio neighbors recall his 'erratic' moods - "Caballero said she didn’t think much of Joss’s yelling, as he was known to shout frequently in the neighborhood. "He would just walk up and down the street...he would just like scream," she said. "He was just very loud, very loud. But we knew how he was, so we wouldn't disturb him. Even if he looked at us, talked mess to us, we just ignored him because we knew that's how he was." Another neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, also shared a similar sentiment, saying he "wasn't a good neighbor." She said Joss would "always do erratic things in the street" and claimed "he was God." She said neighbors called the police regarding his behavior; however, nothing occurred. According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers have responded to Joss' address on Dorsey Drive over 40 times since January 2024, with calls connected to mental health disturbances, disturbance with neighbors, general disturbances, welfare checks and the fire reported in January. Police did not respond to any calls from February 2 to June 1. Neighbors had said he wasn't seen as much on the property after the fire. "I'm so sad it had to come to this," she said. "We all knew it was going to end up like this because of his antics. It's sad cause this could have been prevented if he had gotten the help he needed."... The neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said Ceja and Joss had been arguing before the shooting. She believes the fatal shooting stemmed from the neighbor being "fed up" with Joss' antics."

'King of the Hill' Actor Had Long Feud With Neighbor Accused of Fatal Shooting - "Neighbors on the San Antonio block where the shooting occurred tell TMZ ... Joss' home burned down in February, but he returned Sunday to collect a victim's fire fund check. While there, he found the skeleton of one of his dogs killed in the fire, and it sent him into a rage -- he started yelling at anyone he saw in the area. We're told that led to a spat with Ceja, who lives two doors down ... and shortly thereafter, the suspect allegedly drove over and shot Jonathan before fleeing... We hear the two men have a history ... and allegedly have been in both verbal and physical fights in the past. Neighbors say Joss' rants were actually a fairly common occurrence, and police had been called on him several times prior to his house burning down. Neighbors also told TMZ the actor would do kooky stuff ... like bang pans on his roof in the middle of the night. We're told Joss' home burned down after he used a BBQ pit to heat it ... which he said he had to do because the city allegedly shut off his power when the home was deemed unsafe and uninhabitable."

'King of the Hill' actor Jonathan Joss' San Antonio home destroyed - "Joss said he and his partner had lit a barbecue grill inside the house for warmth and to "make some Abuelita" Mexican hot chocolate earlier Thursday, but were sure they extinguished it before leaving at noon to get lunch and pick up supplies to clean the home."
Texas 'King of the Hill' actor loses home after fire, fans rally - "Jonathan Joss, a McCollum High School grad, lost his home and three dogs after lighting a grill for warmth, extinguishing the fire and leaving the home to pick up supplies, per a report from the San Antonio Express-News. "I told them it was my fault," Joss said. "Very easily it could have started because of my stupidity.""
From January. Weird how his husband now claims that "that home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire"
An interesting cope I got in response to an article about this was that it was from Hearst Corporation (and so apparently should be ignored)

‘I knew something was going to happen’: Woman captures video of an agitated Jonathan Joss just before his murder - "Call it a hunch, but Daniela Ruano said she felt compelled to pick up her cellphone and start recording the actions of her former next-door neighbor, actor Jonathan Joss, Sunday evening.  She recorded a video of the 59-year-old, seemingly in an agitated state, about a half hour before he was shot and killed.  “I walked outside and he’s walking up and down with a pitchfork,” Ruano said. “I knew something was going to happen. I wanted to call the police, but he hadn’t done anything.”... At times, he can be heard cussing and yelling loudly, seemingly to anyone within earshot.  “You’re looking at me for what? I’m walking down the street. I’m rehearsing. I make movies, man,” Joss shouts. Although Joss said he was acting, Ruano said her fear of him was real.  She said for decades, her family and others living in the 200 block of Dorsey Street have had tense encounters with him.  “He was always yelling, like, at the top of his lungs,” Ruano said. “He would say that all the children on this street were going to die, and that we were all going to go to hell because we’re sinners and God is on his side.”... “I think this whole thing happened ‘cause (Ceja Alvarez) was just pushed to his limit,” Ruano said."
Proof that he was a victim of homophobia - he was agitated because of the homophobic abuse and the pitchfork was for self-defense

Records detail neighborhood disputes before Jonathan Joss’ killing - "One of the pair's neighbors, who asked not to be named because of fear of retaliation, said Joss was difficult to live by.  "He's been a nightmare," the neighbor said.  Kern de Gonzales acknowledged that his husband had a tendency to be "loud."  "Me and Jonathan would be out there late at night playing the drums, singing, being a nuisance," he said. "If you're going to make it hard for us to live here, you ain't going to get no sleep."  The couple's relationship with Ceja was particularly contentious.  A police spokesperson confirmed that the police department's "SAFFE" unit, which works to prevent crimes, had been mediating a dispute between Ceja and Joss for over a year.  In June 2024, Ceja told police that Joss approached his house with a crossbow and hurled racial slurs at him, according to a separate police report. Joss confirmed to police that he walked over to Ceja's house to "talk about their dogs fighting with each other," according to the report. The report adds that Joss "got very defensive and stated that he does not bother" Ceja "at all."  Authorities searched Joss' home and retrieved a crossbow from his living room, police records say.  In January, Joss accused Ceja of burning their house down, according to police records.  Joss told police that on the morning of the fire, he was using a barbecue in his living room because he did not have heat or electricity, according to the report. However, he said, he turned the barbecue off before he left the house to get lunch. He told police that an unnamed person saw Ceja on his property the day before and suggested Ceja was responsible, according to the report."
Is it worse to be homophobic or racist? Too bad Joss's husband has seized control of the narrative already
Of course, on Jamie Lee Curtis one person was claiming Joss's mental issues were because of "hate"

Jonathan Joss Was Deeply Troubled, His Demons Were His Undoing, Ex-GF Says - "Brandy Trejo, who dated Joss for 13 years during the height of his career, tells us … Joss was the most "self-destructive person" she ever met … and to her, it seemed like he couldn't stand it when something good happened to him. What's more ... Brandy says she witnessed him drive his neighbors crazy for years with his outbursts and outlandish behavior ... so when she learned a neighbor allegedly killed him in an argument -- she was not shocked... Joss was a loose cannon who liked to make trouble -- obviously not an excuse for killing him! -- and she believes he had undiagnosed mental health issues that he only made worse with drugs and booze.  She wasn't just his girlfriend from 2006 to 2019 ... Brandy tells TMZ she became the actor's unofficial assistant and handler during that period of his career ... and it was up to her to cool him off when he went into a random rage on a set. Joss was best known for playing John Redcorn on the animated TV sitcom "King of the Hill" ... but he had nearly 50 TV and film credits to his name, including in huge film productions like "True Grit" and "Magnificent Seven." And Brandy tells us ... they were kicked off a number of those sets -- 'cause Joss would start trouble with a star or a director."
One cope I saw was that TMZ was gossip and could be dismissed

It's a remarkable breakthrough."  At publishing time, the remaining non-white South African residents were said to be excited to find out what effect the expulsion of all of the country's white farmers may have on the national economy and food supply."

Douglas Murray: Liberals turn killers, racists, and haters into martyrs - "Why do parts of the left and the media keep asking for sympathy in all the wrong places?  In recent months, we have had to put up with crazed activists like Taylor Lorenz claiming that Luigi Mangione is a “revolutionary” and a “morally good man” because she finds him “handsome.”  Unfortunately, he is also on trial for gunning down a father of two in cold blood on Sixth Avenue.  In the eyes of many people, that still counts against a man.  And then there has been the bizarre defense of absolutely anybody whom ICE has tried to deport.  It doesn’t matter whether the people being deported are gang members, violent criminals or serial abusers: If ICE wants them out, then the illegals must be defended. In quick succession, we went from protesters and Democratic lawmakers objecting to ICE taking illegal aliens from their homes, to protesting when they are taken to a courtroom.

Liza Rosen on X - "Day after day, in Nigeria, Christians are being slaughtered by Muslims, churches are burned to the ground, Christian women and girls over the age of 6 are kidnapped and held as sex slaves — yet no one seems to care.  Where is the outrage? Where is the UN? Where is the so-called “human rights” community?  The brutal Islamic persecution of Christians across Asia and Africa has reached genocidal levels — and still, the silence is deafening.  Due to concerns over “Islamophobia in the west, the media won’t report it and the human rights organizations won’t speak against it. And worst of all, most Christians in the West have no idea it’s even happening. But the real question is: would they care if they did?  This is not just a tragedy. It’s a betrayal. A betrayal of human dignity, of faith, of truth.  Please keep the persecuted Christians of Asia and Africa in your prayers. 🙏 Their blood cries out — but no one seems to care — so please speak up if you do and be the voice of the voiceless Christians who face a genocide."

Chagos Islands: The 'totally unforgivable' real reason behind Keir Starmer's Diego Garcia 'sell-out' - "The deal, dubbed by furious critics a "surrender", will soon see Mauritius fulfil its decades-long goal to take hold of the islands, which Britain carved away from its former Crown Colony of Mauritius back in the 1960s to secure a military stronghold in the Indian Ocean.  Since then, a series of supranational bodies have piled pressure on the UK to give up its own land, culminating in a 2019 "advisory opinion" dished out by the International Court of Justice.  And now, Labour has agreed to let the Chagos Islands go. "Surely, our most humiliating day as a nation since Suez," ex-Tory Minister Simon Clarke fumed... If their British administration were to be cast into international legal doubt, the International Telecommunications Union could, in theory, step in and cut off the UK and US's comms... On the third page of the UK-Mauritian agreement sits a series of pledges accompanying the deal. "Mutual respect", "trust", "peace and security" all lead the introduction to the accord.  It also hails "the unique circumstances and history of the Chagos Archipelago" and the security of the Diego Garcia base.  Braverman, however, highlighted another point of note: "The need to complete the process of decolonisation of Mauritius" - and a pledge to "recognise the wrongs of the past".  "Billions of pounds of your money given away to virtue signal on the world stage," she said after pointing out the text.  "This deal was never about national security, but about decolonisation and rewriting history. "The Prime Minister is ashamed of this country and hates our past.  "Diego Garcia and the Chagossians were his price. Totally unforgivable."  Her words follow the warning of ex-Security Minister Tom Tugendhat earlier this year.  In his former role, he "saw the advice on the Chagos Islands deal", he said. "This [telecommunications] 'explanation' is nonsense".  And his words follow the remarks of now-Mauritian PM Navin Ramgoolam, who after Labour's election victory last summer heaped praise on Sir Keir Starmer.  "This landslide victory reflects the trust and confidence the British people have placed in your leadership and vision for the future," Ramgoolam beamed.  "Your commitment to social justice, economic fairness, and international co-operation resonates deeply with us.  "We believe your tenure will usher in a new era of progressive change and strengthen the relations between our two nations." The two now-Prime Ministers had met while Starmer was still Director of Public Prosecutions in 2013.  The future Labour chief had been hosted at a five-star hotel near the island nation's capital Port Louis shortly before entering politics... Though "social justice" and "decolonisation" may be the words headlining the ties between Britain and Mauritius, just last week, the Chinese ambassador to the country had committed to "deepening full-fledged exchanges and co-operation" between the pair.  As Braverman told GB News: "China is one of the greatest threats we face.  "Before we know it, our Diego Garcia base will be compromised and overrun with Chinese spy equipment." Labour is "incessant on kowtowing to communist China", she added."

Jamie Sarkonak: Judge accuses cop of 'unconscious' anti-Black racism with 'no direct evidence' - "Justice Renu Mandhane is one of Ontario’s foremost judicial activists, so it should surprise no one that she’ll stoop to using racism as a basis to let Black men off the hook for possessing illegal guns. That’s what happened at the end of March in the case of Robert Cameron , who had been pulled over and detained for having outstanding drug charges and a suspended license, and whose car, in the process, was discovered to be illegally housing an unlicensed firearm. The episode began when Brampton police officer Anand Gandhi’s licence plate scanner flagged a nearby Jeep for a week-long impound due to the owner’s active infractions. Given the pending charges, the officer called for backup just in case. He then approached Cameron’s Jeep, identified him, handcuffed him, patted him down, and sat him in the back of the police car. “Officer Gandhi specifically denied treating the accused differently or handcuffing him behind his back because of the way he looked, i.e. because he was a Black man,” wrote the judge. “The officer maintained that it was his ‘common practice’ to handcuff and place suspended drivers in the back of his cruiser because it was a ‘safe place’ to speak with them.” The judge noted that the officer had pulled over a woman earlier that day for driving on a medical suspension, but didn’t cuff her or keep her in the police car. Her car, however, was not being impounded, and she wasn’t said to have outstanding criminal charges... Cameron’s lawyer argued that his client was unlawfully detained from the outset and that his car was subject to an unreasonable warrantless search, violating his respective Section 9 and 8 Charter rights. There is indeed precedent from the Supreme Court of Canada stating that it’s wrong to detain a motorist in a police car without necessity (in that case, the driver didn’t have outstanding drug charges) — but it’s not enough to get evidence tossed if the officer operates in good faith. The Supreme Court of Canada and the Ontario Court of Appeal have also permitted warrantless inventory searches of cars in the past, but those precedents were not applied here. Ultimately, the judge emphatically agreed with defence, ruling that Cameron’s rights had been so severely violated that the evidence for his illegal possession of a (possibly loaded) gun was to be thrown out, rendering a firearms conviction impossible. Why? Racism. Though Mandhane found “no direct evidence of racial profiling,” she nevertheless determined that Cameron’s treatment was “motivated in part by the fact that he is a Black man” — either the product of a lie or unconscious bias on the arresting officer’s part... Cameron’s detention was largely a problem, Mandhane wrote, because he was handcuffed within two minutes of meeting the officer, and before the officer confirmed any suspensions in the police database. “The only available inference is that Officer Gandhi subjected the accused to an arbitrary detention in part because he was Black,” figured the judge. While he accepted that the officer didn’t believe he was treating Cameron differently due to race, she found that “he was influenced by his unconscious racial biases when deciding how to treat the accused.” The search, too, was tainted. Mandhane noted a few brief points throughout the arrest where the arresting officer turned off his microphone to speak to the other officers (at the time, policy was unclear as to whether that was correct protocol, though it’s since been clarified in Ontario that mics must stay on). Here, she guessed that the officer muted his microphone to express that he “suspected that the accused might have drugs in the Jeep.” This, Mandhane continued, was evidence that the search of the car was “tainted by racial bias” because the officer “formed the intention to search the Jeep for evidence of criminal activity immediately after learning that the driver was a Black man. This is the only logical explanation.” After filling in all unknown variables with the explanation of racism, the judge determined that the officer “assumed that the accused was more dangerous than other suspended drivers because he was Black,” that his “unconscious bias led him to exercise his discretion in favour of arresting and detaining the accused … for 90 minutes,” and that he “relied on stereotypes about Black people being more prone to criminality to illegally search his Jeep.” It’s one thing to drop evidence because of obscenely racist police conduct — but here, so much of the judge’s reasoning simply came down to Cameron’s identity and conducting the equivalent of a palm-read to diagnose the arresting officer with untreated racism. Really, it’s Mandhane whose beliefs should be in question, as she has stated plainly for the record that race is one of her major considerations in deciding whether an individual’s rights were violated, and whether to throw out any evidence that could incriminate them. This was likely the expectation when Justin Trudeau appointed Mandhane to her post in 2020. In the past, she invented a whole new category of lawsuit — the tort of family violence — to make a political show of her court’s disdain for family violence. Because there already exist a number of different types of lawsuits that encompass spousal and child abuse, her move was completely unnecessary (and indeed inappropriate, given her position as an unelected judge). Prior to that, as the Ontario Human Rights commissioner, she wrote that Ontario’s public service was systematically racist because its demographics don’t perfectly reflect those of the Ontario population. In that office, one of her focus causes was the elimination of racial profiling in Ontario, which she considered a proven phenomenon due to police statistics showing that Black and Indigenous youth were being disproportionately stopped by police (while not engaging with the fact that some groups commit more crimes, and are more likely to populate the ranks of Toronto’s most wanted). So, faced with a Black man’s active drug charges and illegal perhaps-loaded gun, this judge took issue not with the objective threat of a dangerous unauthorized weapon, but the racism she imagined into the entire scenario as part of her greater quest to cement racial thinking into the Canadian justice system. “The short-term gains that flow from racial profiling in terms of police investigations and evidence-gathering cannot overshadow the intergenerational trauma that anti-Black racism in policing causes and the social ills it perpetuates,” concluded Mandhane. If that’s the cost of safety in Brampton, she seems to say, then so be it."
Time to ban legal firearms to keep people safe!
Addendum: The officer Anand Gandhi was South Asian too. Anti-blackness is endemic, even among other minority communities. They need to do better!

Hen Mazzig on X - "Congratulations to the so-called feminist organizations that excluded Israeli women from their march yesterday — the only women in the Middle East with the right to vote, the freedom to dress as they please, pursue careers, love whom they want, and marry on their own terms."

Boys lag behind: How teachers’ gender biases affect student achievement - "I use a combination of blind and non-blind test scores to show that middle school teachers favor girls in their evaluations. This favoritism, estimated as individual teacher effects, has long-term consequences: as measured by their national evaluations three years later, male students make less progress than their female counterparts. On the other hand, girls who benefit from gender bias in math are more likely to select a science track in high school. Without teachers’ bias in favor of girls, the gender gap in choosing a science track would be 12.5% larger in favor of boys."
Clearly, we need even more feminism to narrow the STEM gap

Jeff Younger on X - "Teachers grade boys lower for the same work as girls. The bias against boys results in an entire letter grade loss. Boys are held back from higher educational opportunities. Girls do not know that they receive unearned advancement. There are no programs to combat systemic anti-male bias in education."

Ayaan Hirsi Ali on X - "There are 85 sharia courts in Britain according to @GBNEWS. It is clear the British public did not vote for this parallel system of law that defies national law and national sovereignty. These courts we are told adjudicated family law: marriage, divorce, custody and inheritance.
- marriage is considered legal between a girl as soon as she menstruates. That can be as young as 9 years old.
- a man can divorce his wife verbally simply by stating I divorce you among the Sunni and in front of two male witnesses among the Shia.
- a woman inherits 50% of what her brother gets.
- honor violence, common in several Muslim communities is settled on terms that deny women the rights accorded to them in national law.
Feminists seem to have accepted this state of affairs. No wonder the rape gangs were able to get away with the systematic abuse of British children. Britain must abolish these courts and restore not just the authority of national law but also national dignity."

Sarah Fields on X - "🚨 Harry Sisson convinced 11 different women that 'he had no roster' and 'respected them for more than their bodies' while persuading them to send explicit photos of themselves through Snapchat, including one from a domestic abuse survivor.  When the women discovered each other one by one, he called them all insane and attempted to coerce one of them into telling the public that the photos were 'fake.'  A Request to the Reader - Set political differences to the side. I believe both sides of the aisle can agree that this is unacceptable behavior from a man-child with collectively over 2 million followers.   Thread here 👇"
Alexander on X - "Harry Sisson now has more “receipts” than the entire red pill manosphere combined.   You might imagine that an entire ecosystem of men who claim to be experts on women and seduction would have a dozen women emerging from the woodwork to accuse them of some kind of romantic tort. But basically no - somehow half of them are single and none of them have had any controversies like this.  Then we see someone like Andrew Huberman or Harry Sisson pop up like: “He seduced a thousand women and now the women are mad at him.” It turns out it’s always someone entirely outside of the “sphere” of manosphere influencers.  Democrat activist and supporter of Joe Biden Harry Sisson - “alpha male” per the red pill criteria of “man who women want to sleep with.”"
Another male feminist bites the dust

Allie Beth Stuckey on X - "Modern feminism is basically giving the worst kind of men exactly what they want but doing it in the name of girl power. Having as much emotionless sex as possible, killing their babies, cheering on men in girls’ sports, parading around nearly naked. Lol yeah!! That’ll show the patriarchy who’s in charge!"

Half of women have been dumped for this reason — toxic masculinity is alive and well - "Nearly half of women (44%) believe they’ve been broken up with because of their feminist views. You know, the movement fighting for equal rights and opportunities to our male counterparts? Yeah, that one.  According to the global study by dating app Flirtini, 62% of women also believe that being a feminist has made it more difficult to find a partner."
Of course, if a woman dumps a man because he's not a feminist, the man is in the wrong

Join me in my echo chamber! More from the Guilty Feminist - "the comedian Deborah Frances-White achieved a rare and unenviable distinction. The podcast she hosts, The Guilty Feminist, was cited in an employment tribunal, and not very favourably. In 2021 Frances-White released an episode with the chief executive officer (at that time) of Edinburgh Rape Crisis, Mridul Wadhwa — a trans woman. In it, Wadhwa said that “bigoted” service users who didn’t accept trans women as women would be invited to “reframe [their] trauma”. In other words, support was contingent on victims submitting to re-education.  When a staff member who had listened to the episode queried this statement from her CEO, she was subjected to what the tribunal judgment called a “heresy hunt” and constructively dismissed. But on the podcast, Frances-White didn’t seem to be aware of how inflammatory Wadhwa’s comments were. Notably, in the ten years that The Guilty Feminist podcast has existed, Frances-White has never played host to a guest with openly gender-critical views. Why this conversation was happening on White’s podcast at all tells a story about politics in the last decade. The Guilty Feminist started in 2015 as a place for Frances-White to share lightweight material for women who liked the idea of the “feminist” label but weren’t sure about the detail. When Donald Trump arrived, though, Frances-White’s audience — and her self-perceived importance — ballooned. The Wadhwa episode was a perfect illustration of the left’s retreat into irrelevance and self-congratulation: never mind the rape victims and their inconvenient need for a female-only space, just carry on reciting the approved talking points. You could argue that in the 2010s progressives began behaving like a cult: obsessed with internal obedience, utterly dislocated from the outside world. Many people have made that observation about the left before now. What’s surprising about Six Conversations We’re Scared to Have is that Frances-White has joined them (she knows a thing or two about cults, having spent her adolescence in the Jehovah’s Witnesses). This book is her plea for progressives to rediscover critical thinking.  “The important thing,” she writes, “is that we stop and smell the analysis.” Leave aside the maddening question of who “we” refers to here (Frances-White’s first problem with “conversation” is that she clearly struggles to imagine a reader who doesn’t think like her). She happens to be correct.  I agree with her too when she writes: “If we are to make real change in our society, we need to have difficult, scary conversations.” It’s true that, to be politically effective, “we need to recognise when to change our own minds”. She’s right that cancel culture is real, and ultimately counterproductive: “When we normalise shaming and shunning for our own ends … it will be weaponised against us and those like us.” I agree with her, but I’m not sure that she agrees with herself. Because ultimately, Six Conversations We’re Scared to Have is a mealy-mouthed imitation of robust intellectual inquiry... The Conversation About Gender Nonconformity. Even that title tells you Frances-White has decided the issue in advance: this isn’t “The Conversation About Whether We Should Give Teenagers Sterilising Medication” or “The Conversation About Whether It’s a Good Idea to Put Male Rapists Who Say They’re Women into Women’s Prisons”. Public understanding has shifted since she made that unfortunate podcast in 2021. The Cass report into the NHS’s provision of gender identity services for children has come out, as have several alarming cases of male sex offenders abusing gender self-identification. Frances-White can no longer simply call the other side bigots and otherwise ignore them. But because she’s working backwards from her conclusion that “the cis feminist and trans communities must align”, pesky reality still has to be put in its place. So we are told that the Cass report has “raised concerns”, although conveniently those concerns are too extensive to be summarised by Frances-White. “A deep analysis would require its own chapter or perhaps book.” You’ll just have to take her on trust. Take a deep breath and revel in the distinctive scent of no analysis whatsoever. On prisons and self-identification, she goes for an audacious get-out. Forget which prisons we put trans women in: Frances-White wants us (whoever “we” are) to “challenge our assumption on the idea of prisons existing.” Those who “genuinely care” about women in prison should be “campaigning to ensure that almost all women (including trans women) never see the inside of a prison”... despite Frances-White’s ostensible profession, there are no discernible lols in this book, so maybe I just don’t understand comedy... Perhaps most embarrassingly, she claims that “it is difficult to find historical examples of public campaigns that target individuals or call for censorship from the left”. Which revises Stalin out of history in a way that Stalin himself could only admire. It’s clear that, for all her claims of a damascene conversion, Frances-White still believes that being on “the left” guarantees her moral superiority."

Even statues have rights, apparently

The dark side of the feminization of higher education - "In the modern world, which is suffering from an unprecedented decline in fertility rates, we should not dismiss the importance of star-crossed coupling across campuses in the West. Yet, today, the prospect of meeting a future spouse of the opposite sex among the quadrangles during a young person’s salad days is becoming vanishingly small, for the simple reason that the entire university project has become a new bastion for a single sex — females... What is abundantly clear is that men are steering clear of university programs, even in the traditionally masculine subject areas — and I don’t blame them. In conversation with my new chair in the department of chemical and physical sciences, Prof. Claudiu Gradinaru, I was told that even physics is now showing close to a 50-50 gender split. Women, thankfully, are no longer ashamed to split the atom. But let me venture a reason for this widespread masculine detoxification of our universities. The pervasive and now deeply entrenched culture of kindness, empathy and academic limp-wristedness, the same culture that has led to so many students receiving accommodations for any number of largely imagined mental ailments, is anathema to the young, testosterone-charged male psyche, governed as it is by genetically embedded tendencies for boundary-pushing and risk-taking.  Men are simply fed up with the current state of higher education and are bootstrapping their own careers instead. They recognize that universities are, in the memorable words of philosopher Peter Boghossian, merely “ideology mills” that imprint a deranged set of values on young and impressionable minds, and they want nothing to do with it. Recently, an instructor friend of mine alerted me to a situation in which a young woman insisted she be assigned to an all-female project group. This is tantamount to a demand for the return of gender segregation in our universities. Motivated by a certain contrarian nature, he decided to bounce the request up to U of T’s commissars in charge of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), with the goal of soliciting a suitable ruling on the matter. The response from on high was to delegate down to the departmental level, putting the decision in the hands of Prof. Brail. Now, to be sure, she is a woman of fine moral virtue. This is the person who told me that “IMI has no ideological position,” a woman of self-declared Jewish heritage who irreproachably remained neutral and stood by as Jews on campus complained vehemently, to me personally and to the university at large, about pro-Palestinian fundraising efforts presided over in their classrooms by one of their professors — one Prof. Ann Armstrong. (Armstrong is now retired, and I won’t embarrass her by elaborating further. You can use your imagination.) With this in mind, I do not expect a prompt and clear-sighted resolution to this particular can of worms. It is, in fact, exactly the kind of Moebius strip dilemma that these six-figure-salary administrative types, proudly bedecked in their “white fragility” mindset, have long been dreading. What’s next: gay students demanding they team up exclusively with fellow same-sex attracted individuals? That’s not the kind of social “progressivism” I’m calling for here, because, well, it would be monstrously regressive. If all this nonsense demonstrates anything whatsoever, it’s that the dedicated ministrations of every one of the DEI clerics employed by my university are utterly failing to have the desired impact — assuming, of course, that the aim is to map society’s broader gender and cultural distributions onto the student body. If they were, the returning classes this year would be around 52 per cent male (men outnumber women in the 18-24 age bracket), and they patently are not. Hence, these people are utterly failing in their high-paid jobs and should be promptly dismissed. I’m sure they will be, once fresh, conservative-minded governmental pressures come to bear. Canada’s impending population collapse, augured by recent Statistics Canada data showing women reproducing at the rate of 1.26 children each on average — well below the global replacement rate of 2.1 children per woman — will take a generation or more to materialize, partially camouflaged by mass immigration under current government directives. One thing we absolutely can do right away is to start rehabilitating men’s access to a university education. Romantic partners typically seek out those with equivalent levels of education — what’s called socioeconomic homogamy. In the coming decades, we will face a situation in which many more young women hold a bachelor’s degree than men, meaning that a large number of them will be forced to compromise in the dating pool. And yet, university administrators sit by unperturbed and spout their empty DEI mantras. What rot.  In truth, tertiary education is increasingly becoming a matriarchal enterprise run by women for women, in pursuit of retribution for the academic patriarchy of the past and, ultimately, to their own suicidal detriment"

Men Need Single-Sex Spaces, Too | National Review - "Starting in the 1990s, one all-male space after another fell to the twin demands of cultural “progress” and evolving and misinterpreted civil rights law. For example, the former spelled the death knell of the all-male Elks Club, a fixture of mid-century American life. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks went co-ed by vote in 1995 after a series of pressure campaigns and lawsuits.  The following year, in 1996, the Supreme Court ruled that the Virginia Military Institute, an exclusively male military academy, had to admit women as a public institution following the majority of justices’ strict reading of the equal protection clause. As the late Justice Scalia wrote in dissent, “today [the Court] enshrines the notion that no substantial educational value is to be served by an all-men’s military academy.” Three years later, now-Congresswoman Nancy Mace, who has been outspoken on the need to keep girls’ spaces all-female, became the first woman to graduate from the Citadel Military College in South Carolina. Fast forward to today, and even the Boy Scouts are co-ed. And, of course, all of these changes in the 1990s were merely the capstone to a long retreat away from male-dominated spaces that used to include the workplace, most bars and clubs, gyms, and other public places.   The exclusion of women from men’s clubs, schools, or academies has been viewed as archaic discrimination, perhaps based on some false notion of women’s inferiority. But the battle to keep men out of women’s sports should engender new and sympathetic questions about what we lost when we made it illegal in nearly all cases for men to gather only with other men in a formal organizational setting, and whether there was a better way to balance the interests of women and men while preserving those opportunities for men.  It’s not a coincidence that the share of men who lack even a single close friend has shot up to 15 percent, a fivefold increase from 1990, and the problem is getting worse, with one in four men younger than 30 reporting they have no close friends at all. There has been a lot of focus and digital ink on the collapse of dating, but a corresponding and underappreciated collapse of friendship more generally, mostly same-sex friendship, has been going on since the early ’90s. And the very notion of the heroic male friendship, a fixture of literature for thousands of years, is now a “bromance” joke. Even Frodo and Sam in The Lord of the Rings are constantly characterized as gay by a culture that cannot take nonsexual male connections seriously.   In our focus on the advancement of girls, we seem to have forgotten that boys are bombarded from a young age with cultural messaging that treats their masculinity as inherently dangerous, toxic, or backward-looking. Fraternity, in the older and literal sense of the word, is considered passé.  Boys are hit with contradictory messages: women who enter their sports clubs and masculine spaces are supposed to be accepted simply as “one of the guys,” yet boys know that there is something wrong about taking advantage of their inherent physical advantages, for example, to best women in wrestling or basketball. They face jeers for “beating a girl” just as much as losing to one. Their sensitivities, desire for privacy, and dignity find few champions."

Brotherhood on X - "If you want to know what the next decade looks like, look to South Korea.  SK feminists have pushed so far that men no longer care to protect women. A very, very large segment of men there are genuinely content when bad things happen to women  SK women are an inch from losing all of their rights, but being that they're women they keep pushing on the gas via the 4B movement.  The result is SK's "incel leader" attempted martial law just this past year. The next time is likely to succeed, with female liberation vastly rolled back in order to save SK society.  The West is about a decade behind that"

Femme on X - "Let's talk about institutionalized oppression of men:
-only men are required to register to go to war at 18, or be charged with felony.
-men aren't allowed to choose when "they're ready" to parent. If they complain about life and finance changes, they're told "you had sex, oh well." But...so did women, and we can choose.
-further, if a man chooses to not parent, he's a deadbeat. A woman is modern, empowered, claiming her reproduction rights.
- there are fewer socially funded education and aid programs for men. Far fewer.
-there are almost no equal opportunity employment programs  for men unless they have a secondary qualifying demographic such as race or immigration status.
-there are fewer scholarship opportunitiesfor men.
-there are only a handful of DV shelters for men, and fewer family shelters for men to escape with children.
-boys as young as 12 are excluded from federally funded women's aid shelters, sent to family or foster care.
-in the US and UK, a man can not charge a woman with rape.
-in the US, many colleges deny an accused man right to transparency and defense under Title IX. He's suspended upon accusation and expelled upon results of a typically closed hearing with unshared "evidence."
-men have to deal with daily social ostracized approaches; told to cross streets, not share elevators.
-if a man brings these points, he's shouted down by feminism for being the oppressor and told he either deserves it, or insulted."

Meme - Angel Reese @AngelReese: "Just found out Tom Hanks made $5 million for Toy Story 2? The worst one. WNBA ain't askin for Toy Story 3 Woody money. But right now we getting paid Toy Story 1 Woody money putting up Toy Story 1 Woody stats."
Too bad unlike the WNBA, Toy Story 1-3 all made money

"If you think about it, our shorter season makes our games more valuable, and some of us play at a higher level than some NBA players. It's simple math" - Angel Reese

Meme - "I LIKE THIS PATRIARCHY THING. BLAME MEN FOR EVERYTHING, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR NOTHING"

Meme - "Feminists: I'm tired of having to carry keys between my knuckles when I'm walking home at night!!! Men: We don't feel safe either walking at night. Feminists:"
Kate Willett @katewillett: "I am a 5'1 woman who failed high school PE and I walk around New York regularly at 3am alone. It is very safe here. There are always people out. To put it more directly men fearmongering about crime in NYC are being little babies and it's an unfuckable trait!"
*Spirit. Conservative guy scared of cities*
Only women's fears are valid. Men's fears are mocked. Even if they're about the exact same things

I'm the bikini carpenter — this is why they call me 'wood bunny' - "The Houston-based blonde — known online only as WoodBunny and The Bikini Carpenter — has wracked up a whopping 597,000 followers on TikTok playing with her power tools as she flashes her flesh.  Several of the stunner’s videos have been slapped with warning labels, however, with app watchdogs declaring it dangerous for the vixen to be positioning her killer cleavage so close to potentially lethal equipment."

Shame on the men exploiting Lily Phillips | The Spectator - "Lily Phillips, who had sex with 101 men in a single day in October, has hit the headlines, but the focus should instead be on the men that exploit her, and the men that queued up to have sex with her. Having appeared in a YouTube film, I Slept With 100 Men in One Day, this young, vulnerable woman is now planning her next endeavour: to have sex with 1,000 men in 24 hours, or one minute 44 seconds per sexual encounter, non-stop for a day. Doubtless, this publicity stunt will increase her already substantial annual earnings. But Phillips will pay a heavy price."
By Julie Bindel. Women are always victims and have no agency. Even when they're paid for something they actively want to do, they are being exploited. Time to stop them from working, driving, signing contracts etc to protect them.

Case hearing halted over confusion in POCSO Act - "The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday suspended proceedings in a POCSO case against a 52-year-old woman, noting the need to establish whether the law is gender-neutral, given that the accused is female. The court expressed astonishment, stating it was encountering such a case for the first time. Justice M Nagaprasanna granted a temporary stay on proceedings against the petitioner and scheduled the next hearing for December 6, whilst directing prosecutors to submit their response. Senior Advocate Hashmath Pasha, representing petitioner Archana Patil, highlighted that the complaint under Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was filed after a four-year delay. The alleged incident occurred in 2020, with the FIR registered this year.  The bench remarked during proceedings, “POCSO case against a lady, this is the first time I have come across such a case. This is shocking.” The court added, “This is a very important case; we will have to lay down whether the POCSO Act is gender neutral or not.”"

Meme - i/o @eyeslasho: "Although the exact mechanisms are unknown, patriarchy somehow manages to funnel women into majors that lead to lower-paying jobs, and incentivizes men to get degrees in fields that lead to higher-paying jobs. Pretty insidious, huh?"

Drone Disorientations: HOW “UNMANNED” WEAPONS QUEER THE EXPERIENCE OF KILLING IN WAR: International Feminist Journal of Politics: Vol 17, No 3 - "Killing with drones produces queer moments of disorientation. Drawing on queer phenomenology, I show how militarized masculinities function as spatiotemporal landmarks that give killing in war its “orientation” and make it morally intelligible. These bearings no longer make sense for drone warfare, which radically deviates from two of its main axes: the home–combat and distance–intimacy binaries. Through a narrative methodology, I show how descriptions of drone warfare are rife with symptoms of an unresolved disorientation, often expressed as gender anxiety over the failure of the distance–intimacy and home–combat axes to orient killing with drones. The resulting vertigo sparks a frenzy of reorientation attempts, but disorientation can lead in multiple and sometimes surprising directions – including, but not exclusively, more violent ones. With drones, the point is that none have yet been reliably secured, and I conclude by arguing that, in the midst of this confusion, it is important not to lose sight of the possibility of new paths, and the “hope of new directions.”"
