Thread by @segm_ebm on Thread Reader App – Thread Reader App - "๐จ WPATH has conceded in court that its "Standards of Care" is merely an opinion. WPATH says it represents one side of an unsettled scientific debate marked by uncertainty — and physicains & orgs that rely on WPATH as the standard of care must bear "independent responsibility." WPATH now agrees that pediatric transgender medicine is marked by "medical and scientific uncertainty." It represents its SOC-8 recommendations merely as an expression of WPATH's "free speech." Yet for years, WPATH presented its guidelines as an unquestionable medical standard of care. The social and scientific costs of questioning their recommendations were steep and could be career-ending. WPATH now says there are two sides to the scientific debate over care for gender-dysphoric youth. On one, the gender-affirming model WPATH promotes. On the other, the Cass Review and Cass-aligned policies such as restrictions or bans on puberty blockers and hormones for minors. To defend itself against the FTC in the federal court, WPATH leans ๐๐๐ฏ๐จ๐ซ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฒ on two Supreme Court rulings that under normal circumstances it decries. One is Skrmetti, which allowed states to ban transgender interventions for minors. The other is the pro-"conversion therapy" Chiles v. Salazar ruling. Leaning on the pro-state-bans Skrmetti ruling, WPATH argues that the states have the right to regulate transgender interventions. While some states exercised their right to ban them—other states likewise have the right to promote transgender interventions for minors, using WPATH as the state-endorsed standard of care.In what appears to be a desperate move, WPATH favorably quotes the SCOTUS ruling that cleared the path for administering talk therapy aimed at changing homosexual orientation and gender identity (Chiles v. Salazar). WPATH previously strongly objected to both as forms of conversion therapy. Now, WPATH argues that although conversion therapy may be "substandard care," the Court rightly protected it as free speech. They argue that, likewise, WPATH's own SOC-8 guidelines should also be protected as "free speech"—even if the care they advocate for is judged as "substandard."
SEGM is not a policy-making group. Rather, we communicate with the clinical community, and often have to explain why we do not consider the WPATH Standards of Care to be evidence-based. Our reading of the latest WPATH filing: WPATH's message is that its "Standards of Care" are merely an opinion and an expression of free speech. Clinicians who rely on the SOC-8 document—and organizations that refer to it as the implied standard of care for gender-dysphoric youth—are, in fact, taking on independent responsibility for the premise that the document represents trustworthy clinical guidance. In turn, patients who trust the clinicians following the WPATH Standards of Care should know they are in a "buyer beware" situation. They are being treated based on what WPATH asserts to be merely an expression of "free speech"—representing only one side of an unsettled scientific debate marked by "medical and scientific uncertainty."
This most recent WPATH court filing is here and deserves to be read in full:"
Wesley Yang on X - "It was always a desperate con. It was never real. It was never true. Well informed people have all understood this for more than a decade. And now the institution upon which the charade of scientific authority across American institutions relied has said so itself in federal court. It was a con orders of magnitude worse than Jason Arday, because it implicated nearly every organ of scientific and medical consensus in a conspiracy to tell the most brazen lie ever told by those institutions at the largest scale any such lie has ever been told, and because on the basis of this lie, tens of thousands of confused were medically harmed in pursuit of a delusion that can never be true."

He discovered that absolutely every 'study' you all rely on is flawed in multiple ways and falls short of your desired conclusions... yet you depend on them anyway, in hopes that no one verifes your work. There is a marked contrast between the media coverage of the arrest of Aurora Rush and Shae Sander. KTAL News is neutral in reporting, mentioning that some find the story incredulous and crucially, contacting the police for comment
LGBTQ Nation and Pink News are unsurprisingly one-sided. At first I was surprised Metro Weekly was too, but then they call themselves "Washington's LGBTQ Magazine", so that explains it all.
Gunther Eagleman™ on X - "๐จ PORTLAND MOM BANNED FOR SPEAKING UP
A Portland mother is suing after the school banned her from events for objecting to their gender ideology curriculum. Her 11-year-old was given an “identity flower” assignment asking the child to discuss their gender identity. The school also pushed the pride flag hard. She handed out flyers on a public sidewalk. The school labeled her behavior “harassment” and locked her out. Public school. Public sidewalk. Taxpayer money. And they still try to silence parents."
Matt Calkins on X - "After 11 years as a sports columnist at the Seattle Times, I have decided to resign. It was entirely my choice, and it was not an easy one. The impetus was the Times declining to run a column I wrote from the perspective of two female student athletes who were opposed to competing against biological males. It was one of several pieces of mine that had been spiked, and I no longer felt like I could properly do my job as a columnist. I lay out the situation in greater detail in the link below, but I want to say that I enjoyed my time with the paper, find the talent there to be immense, and have no animosity toward anyone who works there. It was just time for a change."
I was a sports columnist at the Seattle Times for 11 years. This is why I resigned - "I spoke to people attending a rally in support of Sophie Cunningham outside Climate Pledge Arena. The Fever guard had recently taken a stance against biological males competing in women’s/girls sports, and a few dozen folks showed up to express their gratitude for her position. One of them was 16-year-old Ahnaleigh Wilson, who’d lost to a biological male in a track and field race in eighth grade and was holding a sign reading “Thank You Sophie for Speaking up for Girls!” I didn’t know if I was going to write something at that point, but after she allegedly got cussed out by a Storm co-owner during the game, I felt like I had to weigh in... This, after all, was one of several columns of mine that had been spiked at the Seattle Times. One was a piece questioning whether players for the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team were really the victims of discrimination in their equal-pay lawsuit. Another was a more general column on cancel culture in sports. The last, written shortly after George Floyd’s death, implored people to listen to state-champion basketball coach Mike Bethea — a black man urging the public not to stereotype cops. The common theme? All of these challenged prevailing newsroom narratives and likely would have triggered the outrage mob. I’ve always thought that it was a columnist’s duty to generate discussion on the most hot-button issues. To avoid such topics was to leave the reader shortchanged. I guess in the end, I just didn’t feel like I could do my job properly anymore... in thinking about this decision, I kept going back to an Albus Dumbledore line: “We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.” To be honest, I’m scared shitless right now. I have no idea how the next few months or years are going to play out. But that fear beats the indignity of being muzzled."

Erin for Parental Rights on X - "Fascinating how so many people are out here saying “this doesn’t happen” and “this is a made up MAGA problem.” So let me shed some light… This happened to my little girl (and at the time I was a staunch Democrat who had just voted for Joe Biden.) I went public and discovered it had happened to many others. I sued all the way to the Supreme Court — along with other affected parents. The school district admitted to and defended it, in legal documents. Justice Alito called our case “troubling and tragic” and an issue of “great and growing national importance.” It was a living nightmare that almost destroyed my child. But willfully ignorant TDS sufferers will claim mine was an isolated incident… So here are some other lawsuits from affected families that anyone can research, each with hundreds of pages of evidence:
These have reached Supreme Court:
• John and Jane Parents v Montgomery County (23-601)
• Parents Protecting Our Children v Eau Claire (23-1180)
• Foote v Ludlow (25-77)
• Lee v Poudre (25-89) **my case**
• Littlejohn v Leon (25-289)
• Lavigne v Great Salt Bay (25-759)
These other cases have been filed in lower courts all over the country:
• Doe v Weiser (Colorado)
• Mead v Rockford Public School District (Michigan)
• Vitsaxaki v Skaneateles Central SD (New York)
• Lema v Davenport (New Jersey)
• Regina v Staley (California)
• Doe/Heaps v Delaware Valley (New Jersey)
• Blair v Appomattox (Virginia)
• Konen v Spreckles (California)
• Perez v Broskie (Florida)
• Koltenbach v Hilliard City Schools (Ohio)
• DF/Figliola v Harrisonburg City Schools (Virginia)
• Wiley v Sweetwater County School District (Wyoming)
• Parents Defending Ed v Linn-Mar (Iowa)
• TF v Kettle Moraine (Wisconsin)
So many other brave parents have come forward with FACTS about their child’s secret school transition: @bourne_beth2345 , @ErinFriday75490 , @LydiamamaTerf , @AlyashchenkoX , @nogenderpredtrs just to name a few. The gaslighting phase has ended. Parents who’ve endured the horrors of the secret school transition of our kids can no longer be denied. There’s too many of us now. We’re going to end this nightmare for other parents, no matter how many people play pretend that we don’t exist."

Transwomen: “Woman is an identity. A social role. Saying that women are female is deeply misogynist because it’s reducing women to their bodies. It’s therefore much more inclusive to define woman as anyone who identifies as a woman.”
NHS Wales: “Hey, you’re right! You won’t mind if we cancel all your surgeries that would have given you the physical characteristics of a female, then? After all, your proclaimed identity should be enough; you don’t need any physical alterations, because that would be misogynist and reductive.”

Brazilian feminist forced to flee, faces 25 years in prison for calling a biological man a man - "Brazil has allegedly been used by the Open Society and the Ford Foundation as a “laboratory” for transgender ideology. Isabella Cรชpa, a 30-year-old marketing consultant and graphic designer, has become both a victim of and a symbol of the consequences of a politicised, radical trans agenda. Cรชpa, who grew up amid domestic violence and sexual abuse, has used her Instagram account to address issues such as women’s rights and violence against women. This became increasingly difficult when the transgender movement claimed a monopoly on defining what a woman is. In response, Cรชpa adopted more radical feminist positions and, as a result, became a respected voice in Brazil, known for disseminating information about violence and for her unequivocal opposition to allowing biological men who “identify” as women access to female-only spaces – prisons, changing rooms, showers, etc. Cรชpa’s activism took a dramatic turn when, in 2020, she criticised Erika Hilton, a transgender person elected to the Sรฃo Paulo City Council as the “woman” who had received the most votes. Cรชpa referred to Hilton as a man – and was met with a wave of accusations as a result. In June 2022, she was charged with five counts of “racism” after a 2019 Supreme Court ruling equated discrimination against LGBTQ+ communities with racism. Four of the charges stemmed from retweets of innocuous posts addressing issues such as keeping transwomen out of women’s prisons; for example, one post stating that “this is the last chance to vote if we believe transwomen do not belong in women’s prisons”. The maximum penalty for “misgendering” is up to 25 years’ imprisonment. In July 2024, she planned a trip to Spain to visit a friend. At Salvador Bahia Airport, a federal agent informed her that her passport had been “flagged”. He asked whether there were any legal proceedings or charges pending against her. The agent warned her of political persecution and advised her not to return to Brazil. Cรชpa, who had already lost her job, first fled to Spain, then to Morocco and subsequently to Portugal. In Morocco, she spent six months as the only foreigner in a small town of 5,000 inhabitants. Financially ruined, she applied for asylum in the EU, but her application was initially met with scepticism:.. Cรชpa, as the first Brazilian since the military dictatorship, has been granted refugee status on the grounds of political persecution. She is also the first woman in the world to have had to flee her country because of her opposition to transgender ideology... Several women whose posts Cรชpa has retweeted are now reportedly under investigation by the Brazilian prosecuting authorities."

Is this phrase homophobic? : r/asktransgender - "Hi! I saw someone wearing this hoodie on fb that said “Kill your local pedophile”. I really liked it. I’m the type of person who likes wearing shirts that have bold statements on it. For example, I have a shit that says “Pro Roe 1975, my body my choice”. When I saw the hoodie I bought it right away because I resonate with it in a personal way. After I bought it I was showing a friend and they said that might be homophobic. When I looked it up, a story came up about a Drag Queen reading to kids at a library. When a group of proud boys and white supremacists disturbed the event. One of the men was wearing a shirt with an assault rifle on it, under the riffle it said to”kill your local pedophile”. I’m affraid that if I wear this hoodie in public it would come off in the same way. The shirts look nothing alike except the same saying “kill your local pedophile”. If I wear this shirt will this make me look like an unsafe person for people in the LGBTQ. I don’t wanna offend anyone in the community. I just want to make disgusting men feel uncomfortable around me. Please let me know. I’m so sorry if this offends anyone. Thank you."
Is this phrase homophobic? : r/asktransgender - "Personally I think that wearing any clothing with that particular word emblazoned on it in public is unlikely to be a good idea, regardless of context. Very much opens you up to misunderstandings. The phrase in itself is not homophobic, but it can very much be read as a dogwhistle, yes. The far right likes equating LGBT people with grooming, so wearing such a shirt might make you very popular with a very hateful group of people, because they think you are sharing their views."
