The Democratic Alliance for Diversity and Awakening (DAVA), which is allied to Mr Erdogan’s AK Party, said it would run “highly decorated candidates” in the June vote. It will fight for the rights of “people with foreign roots” and take a stand against “anti-Muslim racism”, said Fatih Zingal, a leading DAVA figure with links to the Turkish president. The party was officially founded on Jan 7, and its emergence has prompted concern among political circles in Berlin. “An Erdogan offshoot running for election here is the last thing we need,” said Cem Özdemir, the German agriculture minister and a member of the Green Party who is one of the most high-profile members of Germany’s three million-strong Turkish community. A law passed earlier this month will make it possible for non-EU citizens to hold dual citizenship in Germany, a reform that could lead to an extra 1.5 million Turks living in the country getting the vote. Christoph de Vries, a CDU MP, claimed to the Bild newspaper that DAVA would seek to “present Muslims as victims of a racist majority society and act as their representatives”. He added that Germany’s intelligence agencies should “monitor them closely and intervene if the Turkish government exerts direct influence”... Fears about Ankara’s attempts to exert influence in Germany have been growing in recent years. Turkey’s religious authorities have funded the construction of a number of major mosques and sent imams to work in hundreds of religious organisations throughout the country."

Switzerland: Police shoot dead axe-wielding hostage-taker on train - "Police in Switzerland have shot dead a man armed with an axe and a knife who took 15 passengers hostage on a train on Thursday night. The hostage-taker, reported to be a 32-year-old asylum seeker from Iran, boarded a local train near Yverdon. He forced the driver to stop the train and to join passengers in the carriage. Officers stormed the train and "fatally wounded" the man after he attacked them, police reports say. The hostages were all released unharmed."

The Home Office is reviewing how Ezedi was granted asylum in 2020, having been prosecuted for sex offences. In 2018, he was convicted of sexual assault and indecent exposure and at Newcastle crown court was given a 45-week suspended prison sentence and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years. His asylum application was twice rejected by the Home Office. On his third attempt, an appeal to an immigration tribunal, he appears to have claimed that he had converted to Christianity. A priest vouched for his newfound faith and said he was “wholly committed”. He was granted asylum. A shopkeeper in Newcastle upon Tyne, where Ezedi was living in a hostel for the homeless, said that despite his conversion to Christianity, as per his asylum application, Ezedi gave the appearance of still adhering to his Muslim faith. An assistant at the Sultan supermarket said Ezedi regularly bought Halal meat. “I know he didn’t have a wife because he spoke about how he wanted a wife and hoped to return to Afghanistan to find a bride.” It raises questions over the Church of England’s practice of handing out certificates to converts which verify their conversion and are used in asylum applications. In 2021 it emerged that the Liverpool Women’s Hospital bomber, Iraqi-born Emad al-Swealmeen, had been baptised at Liverpool Cathedral. An inquest was told that he may have faked his conversion... The attack happened at about 7.30pm on Wednesday. A man can be seen on CCTV ramming a car into two people in the road, who look to be the mother and eldest child, covering their faces. According to an onlooker, he then pulled the three-year-old out of the back seat, “slamming” her onto the road, where she landed on her head and lay “lifeless”, while her mother apparently yelled “I can’t see”. Witnesses said that Ezedi threw a corrosive substance over the mother and elder daughter, before ramming them with his car... Britain now has the highest number of recorded chemical attacks in the world, mostly on women, with a total of 710 in 2022 compared with 421 in 2021."

BBC editor who is paid to help 15 Somalian criminals stay in the UK quits the Beeb after shocking Mail exposé - "Mary Harper, Africa Editor for the World Service, was paid to give expert witness evidence for Somali gang rapist Yaqub Ahmed during his five-year legal battle to stay in the UK. A judge disagreed and threw out his appeal against deportation. On her website, she describes herself as 'an expert witness in Somali-related legal cases' as well as referring to her BBC job. Court papers reveal she has been providing expert witness evidence in immigration cases for at least a decade, and has links with Wilson Solicitors, the London law firm that represented Yaqub Ahmed during his relentless cycle of dubious human rights appeals. Ahmed, 34, who was jailed in 2008 for raping a 16-year-old girl, was deported last August – five years after his removal was thwarted following a mutiny of virtue-signalling passengers on the same flight. The MoS has identified 12 immigration cases in which Wilson Solicitors asked Ms Harper to either write a report or give evidence in court. Despite repeated requests, Ms Harper and the BBC have refused to disclose how much she has been paid to give evidence.
