Overweight and obesity in sexual-minority women: evidence from population-based data. - "OBJECTIVE: We sought to determine whether lesbians have higher rates of overweight and obesity than women of other sexual orientations.
METHODS: We compared population estimates of overweight and obesity across sexual orientation groups, using data from the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth.
RESULTS: Adjusted multinomial logistic regression analyses showed lesbians have more than twice the odds of overweight (odds ratio [OR]=2.69; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.40, 5.18) and obesity (OR=2.47; 95% CI=1.19, 5.09) as heterosexual women. Bisexuals and women who reported their sexual orientation as "something else" (besides heterosexual, lesbian, or bisexual) showed no such increase in the odds of overweight and obesity.
CONCLUSIONS: Lesbian women have a higher prevalence of overweight and obesity than all other female sexual orientation groups. This finding suggests that lesbians are at greater risk for morbidity and mortality linked to overweight and obesity. This finding also highlights the need for interventions within this population."

Actually I did do some research before posting this, and saw the Feministing post, and maybe 1-2 others.

This is nothing compared to the torrents of outrage over Hillary's cleavage. And besides, commenting on someone's dress sense and cleavage is nothing compared to making a porn flick "featuring" her.

Let's take feministing as an example.

There are 304 results on Google for "palin (porn OR pornography)" (sans quotes), and 66 for "hillary cleavage" (sans quotes).

However, in the first 10 search results, the former has only 1 vaguely relevant entry (about a Palin blowup doll), whereas the latter has one, two, three, four entries referencing it from the period July 20 2007 to August 7 2008 (18 days).

I was wondering why I couldn't find the post I know I saw, then I realised it's because it wasn't on the main Feministing site, but the Community page, where there was only a vague comment about "hitting something" instead of the tirades characteristic of this site. And it's been 17 days since then - and it seems nothing else has hit the main Feministing site. Looking at the community page, I found one link to the Craigslist ad for the porn, and even then the commentary is charitably described as "muted".

Yes, Feministing has a "Palin Sexism Watch" (which is every bit as ridiculous as their other denouncements of supposed sexism) but if you noticed, I was contrasting only the response to Hillary's cleavage and "Who's Nailin Paylin".

Unless you're saying that one should be as (or even more) outraged over rape being used as a weapon of war and female genital mutilation as disproportionate representation of women in the media, or the existence of slimming ads, I think you'd agree there's something wrong here.

It's the same way calling abortion a "Holocaust" is an insult to all the Jews (and other groups) who were killed by Hitler.

Actually scratch that, I find this even more disturbing - it's like denouncing the disproportionate representation of women in the media and the existence of slimming ads as "oppressive" to women, while ignoring rape being used as a weapon of war and female genital mutilation.

(Incidentally, I'm more amused by the whole event, I'm just pointing out a lack of consistency and appreciation of proportionality here)
