From the Pesta Raya Malay Festival of Arts:
"“Woman is sadness, then sadness is love”.
Are Malay women truly emancipated in our present day or are they still dogged by culture and religion?
Such questions, expressed in the poetry of respected homegrown Malay poet, scriptwriter and essayist, Djamal Tukimin, are articulated through song and dance in this multi-genre production.
Djamal Tukimin is a major contributor to the Singaporean Malay literary scene. His poems have been published in the collections, Puisi-Puisi Nusantara and Punchak Sembilan.
Guest artists include folk singer Zynal."
Funny, given what happened to Talaq in 2000 and given the allergic reaction the regime has towards all discussion of race and religion, I wouldn't think that this would have gone through as it would "offend religious sensitivities".
In fact, while Talaq only "explored oppression, marital rape, arranged marriages, the duties of wives and husbands, and the culture of silence forced upon these women", this performance explicitly takes on "culture and religion" (read: race and religion) head on.
In any case, there's still 2 weeks to the performance so hopefully in the meantime the performance will be cancelled, the writer thrown into Whitley Detention Centre and racial riots thus avoided.
