Links - 23rd January 2026 (1 - Migrants: UK)

Equality chief’s migrant comments a ‘disgrace’, say Tories - "The Conservatives have described the new equalities watchdog chief’s warning against talking about the risks of migration as “a disgrace”. Mary-Ann Stephenson, who chairs the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), criticised “the creating [of] this idea that migration causes huge risks for the country” in her first major intervention since taking up the role this month... Mr Philp claimed that the influx of migrants had undermined social cohesion, saying: “These comments by the new Labour-appointed human rights chief are a disgrace. Once again, the Left tries to paint those opposed to mass immigration and illegal immigration as racist.” “Mass migration with no integration has undermined social cohesion. Sex crimes by foreign nationals are up 62 per cent, foreign criminals and illegal immigrants routinely abuse human rights, modern slavery and asylum laws to stay in the UK... Mr Philip’s response follows criticism by Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, who said: “Reform believes we should deport terrorists, rapists and serious foreign criminals. The vast majority will agree with me that we must prioritise the rights of British people, whatever their ethnicity.” In an interview published on Monday, Dr Stephenson said migrants should not be demonised... The role that human rights protections play in allowing migrants who reach Britain illegally is at the centre of public debate about the small boats crisis. Both the Tories and Reform, who are leading the opinion polls, have vowed to leave the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), the treaty that migrants have used to argue they have the right to a family life in the UK. Critics have warned that the ECHR’s protections are being exploited by people who have crossed the English Channel without permission in order to fight deportation. Labour has committed to staying in the ECHR, insisting that the record flow of small boats can be tackled without leaving the treaty. Before taking up the role, Dr Stephenson lobbied the Government to abandon its “smash the gangs” policy on small boats. She has also called for more asylum seekers to be allowed into the country, comparing criticism of refugees to “hostile politics, racist rhetoric and demonising language of the past”. Immigration has been listed as the issue of most concern to voters during 2025. That coincided with Reform topping opinion polls for most of the year."
It's only oligarchy for the government not to follow the will of voters when it pushes the left wing agenda

UK plans to end 'failed free market experiment' in immigration - "The British government outlined plans on Sunday to end what it called the "failed free market experiment" in mass immigration by restricting skilled worker visas to graduate-level jobs and forcing businesses to increase training for local workers... Under the government's new plans, skilled visas will only be granted to people in graduate jobs, while visas for lower-skilled roles will only be issued in areas critical to the nation's industrial strategy, and in return businesses must increase training of British workers. Companies in the care sector will no longer be able to seek visas for workers recruited abroad... After Britain eventually left the EU in 2020, the then Conservative government reduced the threshold to allow workers in categories such as yoga teachers, dog walkers and DJs to be eligible for skilled worker visas."
From May. Weird, the libertarians claim that open borders help the economy

Starmer to rent homes for migrants
Matt Goodwin on X - "The British people are now in the truly ABSURD position of having their own money being used by the state to outbid them for housing in the private sector —housing that’s now going to migrants who broke our laws. The Tories & Labour created this chaos Send them a message"
Vauban Books on X - "“Europe is the first continent to pay for its own colonization.” - Renaud Camus, Enemy of the Disaster"

BBC Newsnight on X - ""We absorbed 250,000 Ukrainians... Why is it that we can do that for people from one country but not from anywhere else in the world?" Ellie Chowns, Leader of the Greens in Westminster, wants to tackle illegal crossings by providing "safe, legal and managed routes." #Newsnight"
Jonatan Pallesen on X - "Quite incredible to be so ignorant about such an important issue. Ukrainians are real refugees — women and children. Afghanis are young men "fleeing" from oppressing women themselves. When they come to Europe, Ukranians are good citizens and follow the law. When they come to Europe, Afghanis and other Muslims commit a lot of violent crime and rape."

Another massive blow to Britain’s economy is on the way (fka "Donald Trump could bankrupt Britain with the stroke of a pen") - "Net inward migration has reached staggering levels in Britain. We are absorbing such high numbers that even 250,000 would seem like a modest figure. Many arrivals are imposing huge fiscal costs; our public services and infrastructure are buckling under the strain. Failure to bring it down trashed the contract between government and citizen, destroyed public faith in the political class and may end up putting the Tories on an electoral par with the Monster Raving Loony Party. Amid this slow-motion disaster, it’s easy to forget that, not so long ago, Britain was a nation of emigrants. It was an exodus of people which kept politicians awake at night, not an in-flow of 1.2 million. Between 1815 and 1914 some 10 million people left these islands to seek new lives and opportunities in Australia, Canada, the US and New Zealand. After the Second World War, so many fled that Winston Churchill issued a plea against the desertion of “the old land”, later describing emigrants as “rats leaving a sinking ship”. The cost of fighting the most expensive war in history had triggered a series of economic crises – massive national debt, increased rationing, housing shortages – which swiftly dissolved any post-victory euphoria and pushed people to seek prosperity elsewhere. Even as late as the mid-1980s more people were leaving the country than entering it, despite the near mythologised Windrush generations. Today, tired of flatlining growth and stagnant living standards, the rats are again packing their bags. This is now a country where 28 million private sector workers are expected to support nine million who are economically inactive, six million public sector staff and 13 million state pensioners. Where the top 1 per cent of earners pay 29 per cent of income tax and the top 10 per cent pay nearly two-thirds, and are then pilloried for failing to pay their “fair share”. No wonder 400,000 workers are reportedly planning to move abroad in the next two years. It’s a miracle the figure isn’t higher. Even in the aftermath of Brexit, leaving has never been easier. Psychologically, it’s no longer the commitment it was in the days of the Ten Pound Poms heading Down Under, or the Irish taking a week-long steamship journey to Ellis Island. Cheap flights and improved communications have made the process far easier... Close to 250,000 British expats are now living in Dubai, with a similar number in Abu Dhabi. And the more British people there are in these cities, the more palatable they will seem to those left behind. Back in the 1940s, Ontario Premier George Drew staged a series of publicity stunts to attract British immigrants. Today, Elon Musk believes that, “if you want your team to win the championship, you need to recruit top talent wherever they may be”. Were his buddy Donald Trump to open up a visa route to our top earners, it would surely plunge Britain into an even greater fiscal crisis. Frankly, it would be precisely what our useless politicians – though not our once-great nation – deserve. Having treated the hard-working less as a prized horse pulling a wagon than a nag to be flogged until it collapses, they can’t be surprised that so many are starting to make hay elsewhere. The UK lost a net 10,800 millionaires to migration last year, a 157 per cent increase on 2023 and more than any other country bar totalitarian China. There’s still hope. When a population has sufficient energy and drive and the conditions are right, recovery can be rapid. Think West Germany and Japan after World War II. But that relies on giving people the opportunity to build back again. Look also at Zimbabwe and South Africa – wealthy countries all but destroyed by incompetent and vicious, predatory governments. And with every net zero, DEI, welfarist, tax-and-spend policy Labour is moving our future further from the first world towards the junk heap. For many contemplating emigration, the question may soon be “when”, not “if”."
Weird. Left wingers keep claiming that millionaires will never move despite how disastrous left wing policies are and how much the rich are targeted

I visited the UK town where 43% cannot speak English – I was left shocked - "Visiting North Evington in Leicester - a town where 43% of residents cannot speak English - I was taken aback. Statistics had already hinted at the problem, but it wasn’t until I tried speaking with local residents, shopkeepers, and councillors that the reality truly struck me. Walking along the high street, it was easy to forget I was still in England. To my left stood Dipika’s beauty salon, Shiv Shak’s eatery, the Desi Sweet Centre, and Szechwan Spice. Across the road, signs advertised ‘Abdul Enterprise’ next to Sabziiwala Cash and Carry, while a group of young men crowded inside DFC, a halal chicken shop. The majority of conversations I overheard were in languages other than English, and most shopfronts, posters, and advertisements followed suit. The 43% figure soon felt like an understatement... I’ve had more fluent conversations in shops abroad than I managed here, in an English town. For the first time in Britain, I felt like an outsider, and that I should’ve instead been able to speak Punjabi... choosing to live here for decades without learning more than a handful of English words is not only irresponsible - it is lazy."

We live in Britain's 'valley of strangers': Inside Muslim-majority northern town where locals say there is 'no point speaking English' and others say 'no one talks to each other' - "Once famed for its cotton weaving industry and confectionary factories Nelson made its name and fortune during the industrial revolution, thanks to its strategic location close to the Leeds and Liverpool canal."

I've started sailing as a hobby. What is the correct legal response for when I encounter small boats and irregular migrants? : r/LegalAdviceUK - "I've taken early retirement and started sailing as a hobby. Been doing it for about 2 months now, and during that time I've encountered 2 small boats within talking distance and 3 more that were too far away to talk to. My boat has a capacity of 10 people. I could maybe hold 16 at a push. The Merchant Shipping Act 1995 says I must offer help to people if able to safely do so. I have some very specific questions which I need answered. I am not looking for any discussion about political issues. Please just answer the questions. I've tried using AI, but they give contradictory answers.
1.) If I see a small boat of irregular migrants which is in trouble, I am obligated to help them. Is this correct?
2.) If there are more people on the boat than my boat can accommodate, I am legally obligated to help as many as I can?
3.) What happens if a boat notices my boat and begin sabotaging/rocking their own safe boat to try to secure a lift from me? This has happened on one occasion. I sped away.
4.) The one time I did assist a small dinghy of 4 which was sinking, I initially tried to bring the migrants back to closer shores from where they had come from. This would have been French territory. I was intimidated and threatened into going to the UK. If I do rescue migrants again in the future, will I get in trouble for bringing them to UK shores?
5.) Can I use my past experience of being threatened as a justification for rejecting to assist any future obligations I have under the Merchant Shipping Act?"

Caste-based discrimination at my workplace. Is this illegal under UK law? I can't find caste as a protected characteristic. Would race count? : r/LegalAdviceUK - "I'm a British-Indian woman working in London. I am being discriminated against by other Indian and British-Indian employees because of my family's caste. This includes management. This includes not be considered for promotion, less competent people being promoted ahead of me because they are of a higher caste, and constantly being talked over/ignored/having credit taken for the work I do by members of higher castes. Does the ECHR or UK law protect someone like me from this type of discrimination?"
Time to do more to combat racism by banning Reform

Back from holiday. Random people living in our home. Police won't remove them as they presented a fake "tenancy agreement."
We've already got a solicitor saying they'll call us back in the morning, but we're freaking out right now. There's a random group of people we don't know in our home. The locks have been changed. Police were called, but the family inside presented a fake tenancy agreement that we NEVER signed. We've been told to sit tight until tomorrow, but there's people in our home, My husband wants to break in and throw them out with his brothers. I've told him not to do this. From what we know it looks like 4 males in 20's and 30's and 1 woman in her 20's.
FAQ:
Yes, we've called police Yes, we've called insurance No, we can't speak with the intruders, Police had to use thebigword to talk with them at first. They don't speak English. Yes, we've got a solicitor calling us back at tomorrow. We're in England No, calling the police back and reporting robbery isn't working. They know what's going on at this property and aren't intervening."

Britain has lost control of its borders, admits Defence Secretary - "The Defence Secretary has admitted that Britain has “lost control of its borders” after nearly 1,200 migrants crossed the Channel in a single day on Saturday. John Healey described the scenes as “shocking” and said people-smugglers were able to load small boats on French shores “like a taxi”."

As the title states; one of my local councillors is campaigning to be elected as an MP in a different country (not a different part of the UK - a completely different country). I'm getting adverts on Facebook and I follow them on social media. They're using their councillor page to advertise their candidacy for this election in a completely different country. Is it legal for an elected official living in the UK to stand for election in a country on the other side of the world?"

My father died in hospital because the two nurses attending him could not communicate with each other or the doctor.
Father died in hosptial last week in England. The cause of his death was a medication error. The two nurses who were looking after him were unable to communicate with each other. My father's best friend and I watched as they frantically bounced between English and two other languages. Neither one was capable of speaking proficient English. When a doctor rushed on to the floor neither nurse could clearly tell the doctor which medication had been administered that caused the reaction. He pointed at a computer and asked them to bring the records up. From what I gather, neither nurse had bothered entering or finishing entering their records on the computer system. My father passed away in front of me and his best friend because of this medication error. It's been a week now and the hospital still hasn't contacted me to apologise or offer an explanation for what they are doing about these two nurses. His best friend and I complained 2 days after he passed. Is there any way I can get the police involved in this? Would it count as manslaughter in some way?"

I'm concerned that two students in my daughter's school are actually adults.
Daughter is starting her GCSEs this year. Her year has had several new non-English speaking students join them and she is sharing about half of her classes with two of them. They are extremely disruptive during lessons and my daughter and her classmates feel like they cannot learn or concentrate while these students are present. They've also been harassing other girls in the classroom (Unwanted attempts at flirting, touching etc) This is something which we reported to the Year Teacher on Friday afternoon. We don't yet know what is coming of it. Another major concern is that these two boys do not appear to be 14 years old like my daughter and her classmates. My daughter and her friends have photos from the playground and, at an estimation, these men appear to be quite clearly 20-24. They look like university students. My two concerns are:
1.) These students have lied about their age; and
2.) Their behaviour is disrupting my daughter's education.
The Year Teacher said that they cannot independently investigate or question the age of students, but he did silently and enthusiastically nod his head and purse his lips when we said they don't look 14. I'm supposed to be meeting with the Year Teacher again today at to discuss what actions are being taken in light of the harassment/unwanted touching etc. Is it worth me involving the police at this stage? Or would that undermine the school's investigation? For reference, the school has been VERY good at handling these things so far. My daughter got bullied when she was 12 and the school came down on it like a tonne of bricks. It was handled within 3 hours of reporting and never happened again. Bullies received suspensions almost instantly."

My son is isolated at school as he is the only native English speaker in his class. Other children prefer to speak with friends in their native languages. Is it legal for my wife and I to homeschool him instead?
For the past 3 years our son has been having an ongoing issue in his school. He is being isolated and ignored by the overwhelming majority of his class who either cannot speak English, or simply prefer to communicate with friends in their native language. The school has attempted to handle this, but three years later our child still stands alone in the playground with no one interacting with him. In addition to the isolation aspect, his teacher also privately expressed frustration that language barriers were slowing the pace of lessons. Outside of school our son has 6+ friends in both English-speaking and Tagalog-speaking communities, so this isn't an issue of autism or Asperger's where these children sometimes prefer to be alone. The isolation is upsetting my son. My wife and I are both intelligent individuals with masters degrees. However, neither of us have any background in teaching, Would it be acceptable to home school our son for 3-4 years until he moves to secondary school? This is not for religious or cultural reasons. We're looking to give our child the full proper curriculum - nothing excluded"

Pakistani husband is marrying a second wife abroad against my wishes
Hi everyone, just looking for some legal advice if you can help me. I live in England, Uk. My husband of 30+ years and 7 kids together had left to Pakistan to visit his mother a few months ago. I've now received news that he is marrying a second wife to take care of his mother when he returns to the UK. His mother is not sick nor disabled. She can walk, feed and clothe herself, but he has lied to me and said she needs a carer to look after her as she is severely sick. I've been told off trusted relatives that she is completely healthy, and it's all a ruse so he can marry a younger wife (in her 20s) when he is nearly 50 years old. He's a disgusting and vile human being. He knows I have told him no, and I wish to separate with him completely when he returns in a few weeks. I don't want him to be allowed in my house with the children, but he does own half the house. How can I stop him from entering the home? He has betrayed me in the worst way possible and he has abused me physically, mentally, financially and emotionally as long as we have been married. I almost feel I can now finally get rid of him from my life. I need some legal advice please on who I can contact and what the best thing to do is for me and the children. Thank you"

I won in county court fast track £13k. I warned the judge that the man who stole from me would flee to Pakistan. Judge let him pay £200 per month and he fled to Pakistan.
I am sorry for my English I am from Hong Kong and working here in Engineering. l am have flatmate from Pakistan. We shared in London. He stole £7,000 of Oolong tea and family valuables from me of £6,000. Police told me it was the civil matter and I must go to court. I go to county court and win with evidence. The judge says he can pay me £200 per month of 6 years to recover my money and fees. However I tell the judge he is planning to flee London and go to Pakistan. I have evidence. The man lies to judge and says he doesn't go to Pakistan ever but he always goes. After court he flees to Pakistan. I get no money for 2 months now. Can I complain about judge? I warned judge this is exactly what would happen but judge did not believe me"

Extreme pressure from local community not to involve police when my shop is a victim of criminal offences.
Im in England. I dont want to go into anything too specific for fear of revealing my identity. Lown a small shop in England. My community has recently begun attempts to coerce us into not using the police for crimes which impact us. They would rather we handle these issues through our community leaders. Everything from theft to assault to staff disputes- they want it going through the local community first. Another shop owner than ran a chicken place called police for some incident and ended up being the target of a "shunning" campaign. Obviously I'm rather wary of calling police myself now, but my business insurance isnt going to cover me if I haven't been going through proper reporting channels with the police. Especially if something major happens. Are there any UK government or police support schemes for businesses like mine who are facing threats of intimidation if we call or use the police?"

Darren Grimes on X - "The BBC: 17-year-old Afghan "boys" rape a 15-year-old "woman." Read that again. The rapists get the protection of childhood while the child victim is aged-up to soften the blow. It’s not just bias; it’s psychopathic gaslighting from a media class that despises the public they’re meant to serve. Westminster is busy playing dress-up and chasing net-zero fantasies while our streets become a free-for-all. They’ve sold out British girls to protect a failing "diversity" narrative. The establishment isn't just out of touch—they’re actively working against us. Enough is enough. 🇬🇧"

Albanian burglar who cannot be deported taunts Home Office from Mayfair nightclub - "Dorian Puka can be seen smoking a shisha pipe as he sits in the Cirque le Soir club surrounded by burlesque dancers and thousands of pounds’ worth of champagne. The 31-year-old was jailed and deported twice after committing a string of burglaries, but sneaked back into the country on each occasion. Following his most recent return, he is attempting to claim asylum, leaving the Home Office effectively powerless to take action against him until his case is heard. He has spent the past year taunting the Home Office with TikTok and Instagram videos showing his lavish lifestyle. Before posting the video of himself at Cirque Le Soir, he published a video showing off his black Rolls-Royce Cullinan, with his “£10k” hybrid Savannah cat – a cross between a domestic and wild cat species – sitting on top of it."

Labour Blasted Over 'Utter Disgrace' Plan: Migrants To Reportedly Get New-Build Social Homes - "Labour's ambitious £100 million pilot scheme to house asylum seekers in newly-built social properties has drawn fierce condemnation from Conservative and Reform politicians, who argue the Government is abandoning its own citizens in favour of recent arrivals... Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp minced no words. 'There are more than 1.3 million people on the waiting list for council housing and yet thanks to Labour, people who come to this country illegally will jump to the front of the queue'"
