The definition was adopted in March after research by a five-strong Working Group on Anti-Muslim Hatred/Islamophobia Definition, appointed by Angela Rayner, and chaired by former Attorney General Dominic Grieve KC. It received evidence from interested parties between June 16 and July 20, 2025. That evidence will have been central to the working group’s deliberations and its ultimate recommendation to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government. Who did they speak to and what did they say? That is now a question we cannot receive an answer to. Nick Timothy MP has been informed that all the submissions to the working group have been destroyed. This is deeply concerning. It opens the possibility that evidence from extremist groups may have influenced the deliberations. Material from organisations linked to divisive Islamist groups overseas, or evidence that was flawed or simply wrong, could also have played a role...
