Links - 29th November 2023 (2 - Diversity: Snow White and the Seven Dwarves)

EXCLUSIVE Snow White and the Seven... Politically-Correct Companions? - "Heigh-ho, heigh-ho it's off to the job centre they go — for the seven dwarves have been replaced by 'magical creatures' for Disney's live-action remake of Snow White.  The character of the fictional princess, who will be played by Rachel Zegler in the film, has been pictured for the first time with her new companions who appear to be a mix of genders, ethnicities and heights... Disney announced that 'magical creatures' would replace the seven dwarves to 'avoid reinforcing stereotypes' after Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage criticised the 'f****** backwards story' last year... The line follow through the flowered fields in a rag-tag assortment of wacky clothing - with no apparant theme of colours, style or period to tie the group together... Co-written by Barbie's Greta Gerwig, the upcoming adaptation will not feature a Prince Charming and will instead focus on a 'stronger' Snow White who dreams of becoming a leader... The Colombian-American actress faced scrutiny by some critics after she was cast as Snow White, who was described as having 'skin as white as snow'... Dinklage's concerns were shared by some charities, including the Restricted Growth Association in the UK.  'I very much stand with Peter Dinklage on the disappointment and irritation towards Disney for the remake of Snow White,' Rhonda Cutmore, a member of the association, told The Telegraph. '  As a 46-year-old woman with restricted growth, this story has always had a negative impact on me. Not just the physical characteristics, but the labelling of 'Dopey' and 'Bashful', were not helpful in the playground. She added: 'People with restricted growth are in majority born to average height parents - they never live in gingerbread houses, have little bear beds nor live in homogeneous groups together.'... The story has also been criticized as being ableist for portraying the dwarfs with lesser intelligence and Snow White seeing them as children... sources close to the production said Snow White's seven 'dwarfs' were not going to be fully computer generated, and wouldn't be dwarfs at all. Instead, she would be befriended by magical, forest-dwelling creatures... She later said: 'Never in a million years did I imagine that this would be a possibility for me. You don't normally see Snow Whites of Latin descent, even though Snow White is a big deal in Spanish-speaking countries. 'People are making these jokes about ours being the PC Snow White . . . yeah, it is — because it needed that."
Clearly the story of Snow White tells us that fair women with stepmothers are hated by the latter and need to fear for their lives

TikTok's Attack On Rachel Zegler In Snow White Proves Women Can't Win - "critics are taking what she has said out of context, and using facets of modern feminism, more specifically the importance of choice, to attack an attempt at empowering a Disney princess to do something other than fall in love."
Criticising women accountable for what they say is misogyny, naturally
The author must not have watched Disney productions for at least 3 decades if she claims Disney princesses can only fall in love

EXCLUSIVE: Branding experts warn Rachel Zegler backlash could RUIN Disney's big budget Snow White remake and predict executives will be having 'crisis talks' in order to win back fans ahead of 2024 release - "The 22-year-old actress has received plenty of backlash after she admitted that she 'hated' the original 1937 movie and branded the storyline 'weird,' while referring to the Prince character as a 'stalker.'... 'There was a time when Disney actors were media trained and were thoughtful about the impact of their words, whilst sticking to key messaging about the films, but it seems with this total rewrite of Snow White, picturing her as a "boss girl" has gone to the heads of their stars... 'the fact that she's actively being negative about the source material and laughing off the old Disney film and the fairytale makes her look too eager to show off the new version and shows little or no respect for the previous version and other iterations.'... 'The negative press may entice people to see what all the fuss is about but unlike the recent Barbie movie, which features brilliant feminist and empowering messages which we only discovered upon viewing, it feels like the cat has been let out of the bag and we already have an opinion of the film thanks to Rachel's narrative.'"

Matt Walsh - "Disney is trying a really interesting marketing strategy where the star of the new Snow White spends a year before the movie’s release publicly talking about how much she despises Snow White."

Disney's 'Progressive' Casting Is Ruining My Career - "I have wanted to become a professional wrestler since I was 6 years old, and for most of my life I thought it was never on the cards. I have dwarfism, which means I am not the six foot, 200lb person that WWE would normally hire, but it was always my dream—I wasn't going to let anything stop that.  In 2006, I heard that WWE was looking for a person of my stature to fill a role in wrestling, and to my surprise, they hired me.  For just under ten years I got to live my dream of being a professional wrestler on worldwide television, and it was absolutely incredible. I got that role because of my stature, not in spite of it. During this period I heard from other dwarves, who rarely saw a person with our condition wrestling. Many kids would reach out, telling me I was their favorite because they couldn't relate to the other guys; they related to me overcoming obstacles in the ring. It was awesome to feel like a role model.  Because of my time as a wrestler, I was chosen for roles in the 2014 movies Muppets Most Wanted and Leprechaun: Origins, both of which were an absolute blast to make. For me, it was another dream scenario that I got to live out.  During my childhood, I rarely saw people with dwarfism on screen, and while it increased as I became a teenager—cameos in movies like Jingle All The Way and Elf—those roles felt very few and far between, and they were never main parts.  That's why I was so heartbroken when, earlier this month, I saw leaked photos of the seven dwarfs in Disney's remake of Snow White, which showed the characters were being portrayed by actors who appear to be a mix of heights... Just a couple of hours after I found out about the Snow White remake, I saw reports that Hugh Grant had been cast as an Oompa Loompa in the Charlie And The Chocolate Factory prequel, Wonka.  What is happening? I thought. Why is a very prolific actor being cast when the little person community is losing out on these roles? It's ridiculous to me to think that's progressive."
Liberal logic is all over the place. Changing roles so there're fewer roles for "minorities" is normally supposed to be a bad thing

Wee Man Blasts Disney Over Snow White Remake - "actor Dylan Postl shared his thoughts on Disney's upcoming movie, and now Jackass star Wee Man was asked by TMZ about his opinion on the Snow White remake"

Disney Remake Mocked: 'Off White and the Seven Diversity Hires'

Griefbot887 APAB U/S/A on Twitter - "I shouldn't be laughing so hard at this, but let's be real about it. Snow White is literally the whitest story in history. This right here is the absolute pinnacle of woke racist pandering disguised as virtue. This casting is the most racist thing I've ever seen in my life... It's a cultural epoch. Literally, Snow White is quintessentially definitive of German cultural folklore. The story is solely German, without any parallels. It is the only fully German fairytale. Changing Snow White is cultural erasure. Even Hansel and Gretel has parallels from Asia and Africa. Snow White does not."

Disney To Remove Problematic Kiss From Classic Movie, Snow White Will Now Remain Dead | Babylon Bee - "After mounting criticism from an avalanche of 3 people online, Disney has decided to release a new cut of the classic film Snow White. In the new version, Prince Charming will refrain from a non-consensual kiss and leave her to die instead... Sources say the new version will show Prince Charming walking up to the bed where Snow White lies cold and dead under the evil queen's spell. He will then try to get her to wake up so she can sign a consent form. After several unsuccessful attempts, he will walk away like the true feminist hero he is. The movie ends with a time-lapse of Snow White slowly wasting away until she's nothing but dust.   Inspiring!   We've never seen the movie and don't plan to," said the 3 people online, "but we are pleased Disney has chosen to do the right thing here.""

End Wokeness on Twitter: "“The cartoon was made 85 years ago and therefore it’s extremely dated” Snow White (2024) stars explain how they “reimagined” the story"
When you trash the classic source material

‘Snow White’ Director’s Son Criticizes “Insulting” Disney Remake - "“She’s not going to be dreaming about true love,” Zegler told Variety in September. “She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true.” She previously told Vanity Fair, “People are making these jokes about ours being the PC Snow White, where it’s like, yeah, it is — because it needed that.” She told EW the original is “extremely dated when it comes to the ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman is fit for in the world.” And told Extra TV: “The original cartoon came out in 1937, and very evidently so. There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird. So we didn’t do that this time.”... A TikToker reportedly racked up nearly 10 million views arguing, “Criticizing Disney princesses is not feminist. Not every woman wants to be a leader. Not every woman wants or craves power and that’s OK. It’s not anti-feminist to want to fall in love, to want to get married, to want to stay home — none of these things make you less valuable.”"

Rachel Zegler's "Snow White" Comments Have Caused Controversy - "many users and fans of Disney have questioned why romance is deemed as inappropriate for the modern woman. For example, this TikTok user stated that she could write a "PhD thesis on the pseudo feminism that is criticising Disney princesses." She goes onto say that "not every woman wants or craves power, and that's okay. It is not anti-feminist to want to fall in love."  Other users have made comments in response videos that women shouldn't have to choose between a career or love. "You're right, it’s no longer 1937. And you know what else women no longer have to do? Choose between a career or love, we can have both." The idea that making a woman choose only one option, is not feminism."
It looks like most of the critics featured here are women. But that won't stop liberals sharing that meme about the target audience for Snow White and the people upset about Snow White, pretending that only conservative white men are upset about it

Sha on X - "What is it with this women empowerment agenda that shamed a fictional character for being saved by the prince? Snow white was a classic tale about love that conquered evil nothing about that screams weak, this new live action is telling a completely different narrative"

𝐦𝐞π₯ πŸ«πŸ‘ΌπŸ½πŸš on X - "i’m lowkey scared for the new snow white film like what do you mean she’s not dreaming of true love as if that’s a crime"

Snow White remake: My dad and Walt Disney would be ‘turning in their grave’ - "The son of the animator who directed the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has condemned the studio’s “woke” remake of the classic film - saying it is “insulting” to the original work.  David Hand, whose father, also called David Hand, worked with Walt Disney to create the much-loved 1937 hit, said the pair would be “turning in their grave” as studio bosses “destroy” their creation... “I’m afraid of what they’re going to do with the early films... their thoughts are just so radical now.  “They change the stories, they change the thought processes of the characters, they just aren’t the original stories anymore. They’re making up new woke things and I’m just not into any of that.  “I find it quite frankly a bit insulting that they may have done with some of these classic films.  “There’s no respect for what Disney did and what my dad did... I think Walt and he would be turning in their graves.”  Urging studio bosses to focus on new ideas rather than focusing on remakes of older hits, he said they “shouldn’t be taking a classic and rewriting it in their own image. Pick on something else... create new characters, if you’re gonna do this, but don’t destroy or try to destroy something that is, that is a classic and is a beautiful piece”."

Journalist SLAMS Disney Fans for Treatment of Rachel Zegler
If you criticise a liberal, you're a bad person. Just shut up and consume

Michael Clary on X - "It’s clear at this point that Disney has dug themselves a hole they can’t get out of.   This interview is for the upcoming “Snow White” - but with a “modern edge.” Wow. Innovative.  The young actress says…  “It’s no longer 1937” (cuz we’re so much better than they were!)  “She’s not gonna be saved by the prince” (yeah, who needs a man to save her?)  “She’s not gonna be dreaming about true love” (good! Girls hate that crap these days! This isn’t 1937! Girls don’t want to fall in love! Gross!)  “She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be” (that’s the ticket! All girls dream about these days is leadership!)  Disney has to know this message wont sell, but they can’t turn back now. They’re still benefiting from the trust they’d accumulated back when they cared about their audiences and made decent films. But that time is running out.  Disney corp is be-clowning itself with this kind of propaganda. They’re a joke. Their credibility with their target audience isn’t any better than Bud Lite. They’re a progressive propaganda machine and every family knows it.  But they can’t stop doing it. Their brand identity requires them to continue creating soulless garbage to stay in the good graces of LGBTQ activists who are now running the show.  Families aren’t buying it. Disney was once associated with wholesome, family entertainment.   Now? Not so much. You can’t continue to undermine the core values of your target audience and expect people to keep shelling out cash for it.   What parents want to take their kids to a special day at the movies, shell out their hard earned cash to sit in a theater, getting lectured at by a self-righteous, preachy screenplay that revels in undermining the values you’re trying to instill in your children?   The “Disney worldview” is one that would deprive parents of grandchildren in the future because it tells little girls that the “good life” is to be girl-bossing in some corporate boardroom, not falling in love, getting married, and building a loving family together. Yuck! That’s so 1937! Patriarchy!   But since Disney has run out of new ideas, they’re cannibalizing “the vault” by modernizing the old, embarrassing film classics, all but ensuring they’ll erase whatever decent legacy they might otherwise have had.  You’re committing suicide, Disney. Fine with me. The sooner the better. Here’s one household where you won’t be missed."

Daily Wire Making a Live-Action ‘Snow White’ Movie, Trolls Disney - "Conservative media company The Daily Wire announced it is making a live-action Snow White movie following right-wing backlash over Disney’s upcoming live-action Snow White.  Titled Snow White and the Evil Queen, the movie (teaser trailer below) stars YouTuber Brett Cooper as the princess in a film based on the original Brothers Grimm fairy tale, which is now in the public domain. “It’s a story about a princess and a prince, about beauty and vanity, about love and its power to raise us from death to life,” said Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing. “It’s our own adaptation of an ancient fairy tale.” Boreing made the announcement when launching Bentkey, Daily Wire’s new kids’ entertainment brand that seeks to take on Disney+ at a time when some conservatives have grown frustrated with the legacy studio."

Snow White Live-Action Remake Reveals First Look At Rachel Zegler With CGI Dwarves After Major Backlash - "Rather than borrowing from the original animated movie’s title Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, the upcoming Disney live-action movie deemphasized the dwarf characters by lopping off this second part of the title. Then, it was revealed the seven dwarfs would be replaced by seven “magical creatures” in the Snow White remake. This change was made in consideration of harmful stereotypes about those with dwarfism that those characters were thought to perpetuate. The change to “magical creatures” backfired on Disney. Instead of embracing the supposedly more politically correct change, Disney was criticized for its failure to give actors with dwarfism the opportunity to take on the dwarf roles in Snow White. The seven magical creatures appeared to only feature one actor with dwarfism. This meant that Disney, to be more sensitive, effectively nixed six potential opportunities for casting inclusion of the very group that has been so historically misrepresented on screen. With this most recent Snow White image, Disney has seemingly pivoted away from the magical creatures. While the Snow White casting damage has already been done, as a CGI dwarf is not an inclusive step in the way that casting an actor with dwarfism would be, it seems Disney is trying to listen to critical responses"

Disney delays release of $330M live-action Snow White reboot by a YEAR and dumps diverse dwarfs after star Rachel Zegler sparked fury with woke rant against 1937 original - "'We have a different approach to what I'm sure a lot of people will assume is a love story just because we cast a guy in the movie,' Rachel continued, referring to Andrew Burnap. 'All of Andrew's scenes could get cut, who knows? It's Hollywood, baby!' she joked, before admitting in a separate interview that she was 'terrified' when she went on the beloved Snow White ride at Disney World. About the 1937 film, she said: 'I was scared of the original version. I think I watched it once and never picked it up again. I'm being so serious.' 'I watched it once, and then I went on the ride in Disney World, which was called Snow White's Scary Adventures. 'Doesn't sound like something a little kid would like. I was terrified of it, never revisited Snow White again''... In a subsequent interview with Late Night host Jimmy Fallon, Zegler claimed to frequently find herself in line for the Disney ride she allegedly so despises. One fairly popular video criticizing Zegler was of TikTok user @cosywithangie, who said the young actress's criticisms of the original version of Snow White were not, in fact, a good example of advocating for feminism. 'Criticizing Disney Princesses is not feminist. Not every woman is a leader, not every woman wants to be a leader, not every woman wants or craves power, and that's okay,' said Angie. 'It is not anti-feminist to want to fall in love, to want to get married, to want to stay at home, to want to be a homemaker. None of these things make you less valuable as a person or a woman.' 'Some women want a marriage or family and not a job. Some women want BOTH. All are to be heard, and seen, and valued,' she captioned her video, which was viewed more than 10million times. Other TikTok users began questioning Zegler's involvement with a story she seemed to hate. TikTok user @nuttybutter96 shared snippets of one of the interview and wondered why Zegler was being 'so smug,' captioning her post: 'If you hate the original this much, why would you want to make the remake. Pls make it make sense ...' 'I don't think I have ever seen such a condescending, smug Disney Princess ever in my life,' she wrote of the interview. In yet another high-profile interview about the film, Zegler defended the film's newly forced progressive bent: 'People are making these jokes about ours being the PC Snow White ... yeah, it is - because it needed that. 'Our version is a refreshing story about a young woman who has a function beyond Someday My Prince Will Come.'"
