You don't want to raise the stakes to death in a fight, and you don't want to have to argue to a jury later about whether you provoked a fight while armed to bait someone into a self-defense situation.  The anti-ICE protestors have inverted the duties of being an armed citizen (or a citizen in control of a lethal instrument, like a car in a traffic stop). I wrote this to the comment writer who posted this screenshot in my thread.  There is an analogy to Minneapolis, but not how you think. I covered Kenosha and was there 20 minutes before that shooting and 20 minutes after it, and I covered the trial in person, so I know what I am talking about. Kyle didn’t struggle with cops; he was attacked while protecting a business from people who hated cops (and the rule of law.) Kyle was there to protect a business, a car lot, because the local police and Democratic leadership refused to protect property and people and had a disastrous strategy of pushing agitators out of the courthouse park, where they were semi-controlled albeit throwing things at cops, and into the business and residential streets, where they were left to fend for themselves and allowed to fight, light dumpsters on fire and eventually destroy and burn down businesses without any pushback, including a used car lot owned by the guy who asked Rittenhouse to help guard his second business the next day. The cops were told by brass to stand around fire scene perimeters. We saw agitators burn a credit union down with no police reaction, and we interviewed the owner of another car lot, who fended off arsonists on his own with a gun. They torched the mattress store across the street. The police wouldn’t help.  Similarly, the Minneapolis police leadership have ceded control of the streets. This is the central issue in Minnesota.  Also the Democrat governor of WI took too long to get the National Guard there. He and the Lt Gov also released inciting anti law enforcement statements after the Jacob Blake shooting, which sparked the Kenosha riots and which leftists insisted was murder, calling cops and us etc. every name in the book. But guess what? A couple months later, the Democrat DA ruled it a legally justified shooting (Blake by the officer) despite the misleading video that got everyone riled up and falsely calling the officer a “murderer!” Even the extremely liberal AG Josh Kaul believed that shooting was justified, although he didn’t tell the public that until after Kenosha burned. So, frankly the analogy is accurate in that abject failure of Democrat leaders to protect the streets plus their shameful anti-cop rhetoric led to deaths.. just like Walz, Frey, etc now. Kenosha was a semi organized attack on the rule of law by agitators, many from out of state. It stopped when Trump sent the US Marshals in.  There are also differences. R*ttenhouse was not trying to protest or get in the way of a law enforcement operation targeting an assaultive illegal immigrant for arrest like Pretti was, and he didn’t struggle with cops. He wasn’t protecting criminal illegal immigrants from capture; he was trying to stop a business from burning down and cleaned up graffiti.  The first shooting happened when a convicted child molester named Joseph Rosenbaum chased him into a dark corner and lunged for his gun. This was on video. He wasn’t there to protest. There were peaceful protests during the day, but it went south at night and became a different crowd. Rosenbaum had been getting in people’s faces, getting in arguments, using a slur etc all night. Very unsavory person. The second shooting happened when a man jumped R*ttenhouse and tried to hit him over the head with a skateboard while another man tried to jump kick him and the third was a man who moved toward him with a gun. This is why he was acquitted. The media refused to report the criminal histories of those men.  That case demonstrates what happens when government fails to protect property and people from outside agitators with no respect for the rule of law, incites the citizenry against law enforcers who are trying to uphold the rule of law, and loses control of the streets to unsavory agitators who descend on the city. Some of the arsons seemed fairly organized. There were people using walkie talkies and going door to door with Roman candles methodically lighting businesses and a Department of Corrections  building on fire. There was more diversity among the agitators in Kenosha, though. BLM seems to be leaving the Minneapolis stuff to suburban Karens.  The Kenosha riots had long-term political impact. This indicates Pretti had a very serious anger problem and a very aggressive demeanor.  The most telling aspect to Pretti's aggressive demeanor, his anger issues and his disrespect for law enforcement is found in the still photographs from the incident that led up to him being shot by an ICE agent.  Firstly, Pretti brought an automatic weapon with two full magazines with him to protest against Federal ICE agents. Pretti was working for the Federal government at the VA. He fully knew this was irresponsible and unacceptable behavior on his part.  The still photographs show Pretti was aggressive in confronting an ICE agent. It was Pretti who was getting directly in the face of a Federal ICE agent and pressing into the agent to the point that the agent put out his hand to prevent Pretti from moving closer to the agent. It was Pretti who was aggressively attempting to impede the legally mandated work of the Federal ICE agent. Pretti was not acting as an "observer". He was acting as an aggressive, angry Bernie Sanders activist while carrying an automatic weapon and two fully loaded magazines.  Minneapolis has recently been the site of a mass shooting at a Catholic school/church that left two dead, in addition to the shooter, and thirty injured, including 26 children.  The fact that a very angry Alex Pretti was roaming the streets of Minneapolis with an automatic weapon and two fully loaded magazines is a disturbing fact that cannot be over looked. His history of confrontation, anti-police hatred, his long history of protesting against law enforcement and his aggressive behavior all played factors in the events leading up to his fatality."

Alex Pretti, was a Federal Employee (a nurse for the Veteran’s Administration) who was an active participant in a conspiracy by left wing activist groups to disrupt Federal Law Enforcement Operations targeting Illegal Aliens, many of whom are violent, sex offenders.  He may have had a gun legally, but that does not give him a right to get in a confrontation with Law Enforcement. 2. Confronting LE physically is extremely hazardous. A person choosing that path will almost always lose. LE have training, tools, and numbers.
3. The videos show what happened from a distance and do not capture what each officer perceived in the handful of seconds this encounter took.
4. People offering uninformed video analysis frame by frame don’t contribute anything here. The legal questions turn on what the officers reasonably perceived in the moment. We aren’t watching an instant replay to decide if a receiver got both feet down with control of the ball.
5. Whether an officer’s use of force was a crime, subjects him to liability, or violated department policy are separate inquiries. There are overlapping legal principles behind each, but they fundamentally are not in lockstep.

Let’s do a deep dive into Karen Bass. She had destroyed Los Angeles because that’s what she was trained to do.

In the 1970s, Bass was deeply involved with a pro-Cuban group called the Venceremos Brigade, which sent young Americans to Cuba to train under Fidel Castro’s communist regime.

This wasn’t tourism. This was political indoctrination.

Founded in 1969, the Venceremos Brigade was created by U.S. leftists aligned with revolutionary Marxist ideals. The group’s mission was to show solidarity with Cuba’s communist revolution by organizing trips where American youth would work alongside Cubans, often in sugar cane fields, and participate in political indoctrination programs.

Bass made at least one trip to Cuba as part of the Venceremos Brigade, an experience she later described as having a “profound impact” on her. She was reportedly involved in local organizing for the Brigade’s Los Angeles chapter, which recruited others to participate.

This was during the Cold War, at a time when Cuba was openly hostile to the United States, allied with the Soviet Union, and exporting violent revolution throughout Latin America and Africa.

The Cuban regime that Bass praised:
•Executed political prisoners
•Censored the press
•Outlawed dissent
•Imprisoned gays, dissidents, and religious leaders

And yet, when Fidel Castro died in 2016, Bass issued a public statement calling him “comandante en jefe” and did not mention his human rights abuses at all.

According to declassified U.S. intelligence documents, both the FBI and CIA tracked the Venceremos Brigade for decades. Their concern?
The Brigade was not merely a peace-and-solidarity initiative — it was heavily influenced, co-organized, and at times directly run by Cuba’s intelligence service, the DGI (Dirección General de Inteligencia).

A 1976 Senate report and subsequent CIA memos noted that Cuban intelligence used these trips to identify and cultivate ideologically aligned Americans, some of whom were later used as influence agents or propaganda amplifiers in U.S. political and academic spaces.

The U.S. government flagged the Brigade as a “target of concern” — not just for pro-communist ideology, but because it provided face-to-face access to a hostile foreign intelligence apparatus.

Karen Bass was among the recruits. She wasn’t just a tourist. She was recruited into a group specifically designed to expose young Americans to Marxist ideology and Cuban revolutionary politics. She later referred to her time in Cuba as “transformative” and never denounced the Brigade’s communist underpinnings or intelligence ties.

Years later, in a 2016 statement mourning Fidel Castro, Bass called him “Commandante en Jefe” a phrase used only by Castro loyalists and praised his leadership without any mention of the regime’s brutality, executions, or suppression of dissent.

The FBI and CIA monitored the Venceremos Brigade for decades. Why? Because U.S. intelligence suspected it was co-run by Cuban spies to radicalize young Americans.

According to multiple declassified FBI memos and CIA briefings, the Venceremos Brigade served three purposes:
1.Recruitment and radicalization of young Americans sympathetic to Marxism.
2.Ideological training: Attendees were immersed in pro-Castro propaganda and taught to see the U.S. as an imperialist threat.
3.Intelligence grooming: Select participants were believed to be cultivated for future influence operations or political activism aligned with Cuban interests.

The FBI’s counterintelligence division tracked the names of participants, monitored organizing cells in major U.S. cities, and warned of potential subversive penetration into American institutions.

Karen Bass, then a college student in Los Angeles, joined the Venceremos Brigade and traveled to Cuba.

Unlike many who later distanced themselves from their radical pasts, Bass never disavowed her involvement. In fact, she referred to her time in Cuba as a “transformative experience” and said she admired the “social justice” model of the Cuban revolution.

But she didn’t stop there.

In 2016, when Fidel Castro died, Bass issued a public statement mourning him as “Comandante en Jefe”—a term used affectionately by Castro loyalists and Cuban state propaganda outlets. She offered zero acknowledgment of the regime’s:

•Retail theft skyrocketed, with videos of mass smash-and-grabs going viral.
•Gangs and organized crews ransacked businesses in daylight, facing little to no consequence.
•Assaults and robberies spiked, particularly in formerly “safe” neighborhoods like Hollywood, Sherman Oaks, and Venice.
•Police morale dropped to record lows. LAPD lost officers faster than it could recruit new ones, due to defunding efforts and lack of support from city leadership.

Karen Bass responded not by cracking down — but by talking about “root causes” and social programs.

Homelessness Exploded

Bass launched a program called “Inside Safe”, which promised to move the unhoused off sidewalks and into permanent housing.

Here’s what actually happened:
•Tent cities reappeared days after “clearing” operations.
•Homeless hotel contracts cost $700–$1,200 per room, per night, draining city resources.
•Drug use, mental illness, and cartel-linked trafficking in homeless camps went unaddressed.
•As of 2024, homelessness was up, not down, despite massive spending.

According to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, the total number of homeless residents surpassed 75,000, the highest in the city’s history.

Who profited?

While the city spiraled, corruption scandals mounted:

•Bass’s ally Councilmember Kevin de León, was caught on tape making racist comments yet refused to resign. Bass called it “unfortunate” but refused to lead.
•A revolving door of nonprofit contractors and city consultants earned millions through homelessness programs, while conditions worsened.
•Bass herself faced questions about a scholarship she received from USC’s social work school, during a federal bribery probe involving the school and Rep. Mark Ridley-Thomas. Though not charged, her name appeared in federal court filings and exposed cozy ties between L.A. politicians and favored institutions.

Los Angeles became a national cautionary tale:
•Taxpayer dollars burned on failed programs
•Middle-class families fled to safer, saner cities
•Small businesses closed or moved to Texas, Arizona, or Florida
•Drug deaths in public bathrooms and subways rose
•The entertainment industry once the crown jewel of L.A. began quietly relocating studios and productions

The deeper truth is this: Labour do not want to draw lines. Because drawing lines would mean saying that allegiance matters. That citizenship is conditional. That a country has the right to decide who belongs to it and who has forfeited that claim. They fear that position more than they fear the consequences of avoiding it. So they manage outrage instead of preventing harm. If calling for the murder of civilians does not make someone "not conducive to the public good," then the phrase is meaningless. Britain is told to accept that nothing can be done, even as the boundaries of acceptable speech are pushed ever further into the dark. A state that will not act before violence arrives is not prudent. It is negligent. A government that treats open calls to kill as tolerable opinion has already surrendered the idea of national self-defence. It used to work very well, because the historical stigma was so strong, but, like hurling "nazi" and "fascist" at the most middle-of-the-road political figures and positions, it's finally lost its power. I really feel for the Brits because it's not obvious how they get themselves out of this pickle... Here's how the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen of the Social Democrats, recently put it in an interview: 'There are really a lot of us Danes who believed that when people came to this ‘world’s best country’ and were given such good opportunities, they would integrate. They would become Danish, and they would never, ever harm our society. All of us who thought that way have been wrong.' This is the challenge before not just the British establishment, but much of the European one too: To come to the realization of the Danish Prime Minister. Someone nobody could credibly charge with being "far right". Which should give the Brits some solace. The Social Democrats in Denmark were once staunch believers in unfettered immigration and thought it dirty to even talk about the problems, but eventually reality and public pressure led them to better ideas. Why shouldn't that be possible in the UK? Don't give up. You survived the Blitz. Britain will be back."

From what I understand, staff supposedly did this because they thought the NYPD officers might have been 'ICE agents' as if that is a valid excuse to refuse a patient. Let's be very clear about something -- when doctors and nurses and medical staff begin to refuse critical care over perceived political differences, we will have reached a breaking point in this country. If this behavior is allowed to continue, and is not met with swift condemnation and consequences by the mayor and government leadership of New York as well as medical licensing boards and the professional community at large, trust in the medical profession will be shattered beyond repair. Even during wartime, doctors and nurses were bound to treat the wounded of both sides. And they could be trusted to provide competent and compassionate care no matter who they were treating. It was, in fact, a badge of honor for the profession. If the medical profession has now abandoned that basic morality, and patients now have to worry about being refused treatment -- or worse -- because of political hostility from their own countrymen, then a rubicon has truly been crossed and there isn't much else to say. This is a disgrace, it is unacceptable, and it is indicative of the profound moral rot that progressive activism has brought into every corner of our civics. The left is taking us down a very dark path indeed."
