BBC apologizes for asking Morocco soccer captain if teammates are lesbians - "British broadcaster BBC apologized Tuesday after one of its reporters asked the captain of Morocco’s Women’s World Cup team whether any of her soccer teammates are lesbians.   “In Morocco, it’s illegal to have a gay relationship,” the journalist asked player Ghizlane Chebbak at a news conference Sunday. “Do you have any gay players in your squad, and what’s life like for them in Morocco?”  Morocco is one of at least 67 countries where same-sex intimacy is criminalized, according to Human Rights Watch. Moroccans who violate the law could face six months to three years in prison, according to the international advocacy group. Chebbak grimaced and removed her earpiece in response to the question before turning to her coach and laughing. An official of FIFA, the international soccer governing body, interjected before Chebbak could respond, saying the question was “political” and instructing reporters to “stick to questions relating to football.”  “No, it’s not political,” the reporter replied. “It’s about people. It’s got nothing to do with politics. Please let her answer the question.”"

Not One 8th Grade Student From LeBron James' I Promise School Has Passed A Math Test Since 2020 - "One of LeBron James' greatest facets is his philanthropic nature. James has made a conscious effort to give back to his community. Perhaps his most important project is the 'I Promise' school which provides education for underprivileged children from minority communities. But a recent story reveals some concerns about the school.  A recent report revealed that students from the 8th grade of the I Promise school have not passed the Ohio state math test in several years. One board member questioned how that could be possible, as it is highly unusual for children in their age group to have such poor results... It should be noted that the school's goal is to serve as an intervention for the lowest-performing students in the state, but this result is unusual. On top of that, some of the largest demographics in their school are performing far below state levels"
Damn racism!

NBC is slammed for report about black people needing 'safe spaces' to camp to avoid 'trauma' from white people who might have Trump flags - "NBC BLK reporter Char Adams described in a recently-revived June essay several black-led outdoor groups working to 'provide safe spaces for black people to enjoy outdoor activities and dispel myths that the outdoors doesn't belong to us.'  The report focused heavily on creating racially segregated 'safe spaces' so that black people can avoid 'harassment' and 'trauma' from white people who might fly 'Trump flags' at campsites... Kentucky State University Political Science Professor Wilfred Reilly even went as far as to say the article was an 'unbearable' example of 'upper-class left-wing neuroticism and fake race/gender grievance' from the media... NewsNation reporter Zaid Jilani also hit out at the news outlet for suggesting black people were living in a horror film.  'Does a week go by without an article from a once-reputable news organization suggesting minorities live in an endless M. Night Shyamalan movie where our entire lives are spent hiding from this or that?' Other users also expressed their disgust at the notion that black people were that 'fragile,' with Lily Mae, a retired school teacher, writing: 'I have many black friends who love the outdoors.   'They are not so weak and oppressed feeling that they can't hike, fish, hunt, picnic, swim, etc... without feeling unsafe,' she said. 'Black people do not need safe places to enjoy the outdoors! What a race-baiting asinine idea!'  Another user added: 'I promise you guys, the black community is not this fragile.  'We've been going outdoors since the dawn of time... This was written by some oversensitive gender studies major, who's probably never set foot outside of their crime -ridden Democrat-run city.'   And a third tweeted: 'It takes a special breed of stupid to be traumatized by being outdoors. And it takes an even specialer breed of stupid to make something racist out of it. 'So just imagine the bred of stupid it takes to write an article about it.'"
These are the people who go on about "white fragility

KL music festival cancelled after The 1975 singer criticises Malaysia govt over anti-LGBTQ laws - "A three-day music festival in Kuala Lumpur was cancelled on Saturday after British band The 1975 failed to comply with local performance guidelines.  The band’s performance was cut short on Friday, the first day of the three-day Good Vibes Festival, after frontman Matty Healy gave a speech criticising the Malaysian government for criminalising same-sex relationships.  “I made a mistake when we were booking shows, I wasn’t looking into it. I don’t see the ****ing point, right? I do not see the point of inviting The 1975 to a country and telling us who we can have sex with,” Healy told the crowd. “And I’m sorry if that offends you and you’re religious... If you push, I’m gonna push back.”  Homosexuality is forbidden in Malaysia, and laws criminalising sodomy can result in imprisonment or corporal punishment.  Healy, who was holding a bottle of wine, told the crowd that the group would not be performing “uplifting songs” as he was furious... the band’s bassist Ross MacDonald walked over to him, and the two men kissed during their rendition of I Like America & America Likes Me... Malaysia’s Communications and Digital Ministry announced through one of its committees that The 1975 had been blacklisted from performing in Malaysia.  The ministry’s central committee for the application for filming and performance by foreign artistes (Puspal) said the decision was made after the group was found to have “challenged, belittled and disparaged local laws and violated the morals of Malaysians” during its show.  “The Communications and Digital Ministry will not tolerate any party that provokes and engages in disrespectful behaviour while performing in Malaysia,” Puspal said in a statement on Saturday.  The ministry has also filed a police report against the band and the festival’s organisers for failing to comply with Puspal’s conditions for performing in the country, adding that the organisers had previously made assurances that they would be responsible for the band’s performance. Selangor police chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said the police would be contacting the organisers as part of their investigations...   The festival had been expected to feature other international and local music acts, including American band The Strokes and Australian rapper The Kid Laroi.  Malaysians have left disparaging comments on The 1975’s social media pages, voicing their disappointment at the band and lead vocalist Healy for being disrespectful towards the country’s customs, and their “surface-level activism”.  One fan, Ms Yasmin Devan, blamed the band for being “the reason the festival got cancelled after just one day” and possibly for the wider repercussions.  “You don’t know how to navigate this country and its issues. Countless people lost their jobs and the (organising) company might even go bankrupt because of this, can’t even recoup their cost,” she said.  Another Malaysian fan wrote on Instagram: “What you did may cost us to miss out on a lot of concerts in future.”  Puspal had earlier in 2023 tightened guidelines for concerts in the country, including blackout dates close to religious holidays such as Hari Raya Puasa, and banning performers from actions such as cross-dressing or removing articles of clothing during shows.  Popular American YouTube musician David Choi also weighed in, saying it was a shame that The 1975’s “extremely selfish, unprofessional, and most of all, privileged actions... probably made things worse for the progressives in a mostly Islamic country”.  While the band has yet to comment since walking off the stage on Friday, those close to the members have shown support for their antics in Malaysia."
The 1975 cancels Indonesia, Taiwan gigs after Malaysia LGBTQ row - "British band The 1975 has cancelled shows in Taiwan and Muslim-majority Indonesia a day after Malaysia banned them from performing there over an on-stage same-sex kiss...   The events also angered members of Malaysia’s LGBTQ community, who said Healy’s actions could expose LGBTQ people to more stigma and discrimination."

Owners of Swatch LGBTQ watches in Malaysia could face fine, up to 3 years' jail - "Malaysia on Thursday (Aug 10) banned Swatch watches and accessories containing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) elements, with authorities saying the products "may be harmful to morality as well as public and national interest".  Those who own these timepieces may also face a jail term of up to three years, a fine of up to RM20,000 (US$4,375), or both.  The ban, issued by Malaysia's Ministry of Home Affairs, covers all Swatch products that contain LGBTQ features including boxes, wrapping and accessories.   Earlier in May, the ministry reportedly confiscated the rainbow-coloured watches as they were inscribed with "LGBTQ"...   The announcement of the ban followed renewed scrutiny of LGBTQ rights in Malaysia after the government last month halted a music festival in Kuala Lumpur.  It pulled the plug after the frontman of British pop rock band The 1975 kissed a male bandmate onstage and criticised the country's anti-LGBTQ laws."
Damn colonialism and white supremacy!

Book bans aren’t just coming from the GOP | Opinion - "here’s one title that didn’t appear on any lists of commonly challenged books in 2022: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. That’s because many school districts dropped Huck Finn from their reading lists years ago. And the people demanding its removal were on the left, not the right.  That’s not something that my fellow liberals like to acknowledge these days. We’re outraged by the latest burst of censorship in American schools, which reflects a profound lack of faith in our teachers as well as our students. But so does the purge of Huck Finn. And liberals can’t rebut book bans if they are banning books themselves. Consider a 2019 resolution in the New Jersey Legislature to remove Huck Finn from school curricula, introduced by two Democratic lawmakers. “I think this is a racist book,” declared one of the sponsors, Verlina Reynolds-Jackson, a Democrat from Mercer County, citing the novel’s frequent use of the N-word. “To use this book in this climate is not doing the African American community any justice at all.”  Never mind that Twain wrote Huck Finn to critique slavery and racism, or that some leading Black authors — including Toni Morrison — have defended the book. It “can cause students to feel upset, marginalized, or humiliated and can create an uncomfortable atmosphere in the classroom,” the New Jersey resolution states. Sound familiar? Although the bill never became law in New Jersey, it reflects the voice of the school censor in all times and places: A book is going to harm young people, so it has to go... All good literature can upset us, because it addresses the full breadth of the human experience. That includes our worst traits — violence, bigotry, and racism — as well as our best ones: courage, dignity, and altruism.  But censors don’t trust our teachers to address those themes in sensitive and age-appropriate ways. As Rep. Reynolds-Jackson acknowledged, some New Jersey teachers told her that they wanted to retain Huck Finn. “You have to make sure you have a strong instructor to lead that conversation,” she said.  Translation: She doesn’t believe our instructors are strong enough to do that. Why would she want to ban the book, otherwise?  And we certainly don’t trust our young people to make sense of it, either. That’s why the staunchly liberal school board of Burbank, Calif., removed Huck Finn — along with Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, another classic American novel that the left loves to hate. It uses the N-word, too, and it also allegedly promotes a “white-savior” mentality.  Not according to Sungjoo Yoon, a student at Burbank High School. Writing in the New York Times, he noted that Atticus Finch’s defense of Black client Tom Robinson in To Kill a Mockingbird taught him “the danger of complacency,” while the bond between Huck and Jim in Huck Finn demonstrated that “love transcends any and all differences.”  You don’t have to agree with him, of course. But if you want to ban these novels, you’re going to have to tell me why they’re more dangerous than Gender Queer, Beloved, and all of the other books that Republicans are attempting to remove. Good luck with that."

A Teachers Union Has Odd Taste in Books - WSJ - "America’s largest teachers union, the National Education Association, issued its “2023 Summer Reading List” last month. Among its recommendations are “Gender Queer,” a graphic-novel memoir about “identifying outside the gender binary.” The book has been removed from many school libraries in Florida, where I live, but I checked it out at the public library.  I was shocked that a book marketed to young adults (12-18) has so much graphic content. Here’s a sexting dialogue from page 170: “I got a new strap-on harness today. I can’t wait to put it on you. I can’t wait to have your c— in my mouth—I’m going to give you the b— of your life. Then I want you inside me.” On the facing page, color sketches graphically depict this scene.  I posted that quote, with slightly less family-friendly redactions, in the comment section below the NEA reading list, alongside several other comments from other readers. Within an hour, all the comments were deleted and the comment section on the post was closed. The book is listed under the heading “Banned Books: Celebrate the Freedom to Read!” But the NEA doesn’t want people actually to read it. A day after closing the comment section, the NEA deleted one of its original recommendations—“Milo and Marcos at the End of the World” by Kevin Christopher Snipes. Publisher’s Weekly calls that book an “emotional navigation of faith and queerness” about a boy named Milo who “becomes convinced God is punishing him for being gay.” A “super-religious, super-shy nerd” with “adamantly Republican Presbyterian” parents, Milo falls in love with a Cuban boy named Marcos and believes the world will end if he pursues this romance after a series of natural disasters occur during their courtship.  There are no classics on the list, but there are other edgy recommendations, including “Ready Player One,” which has explicit descriptions of blow-up sex dolls, online brothels and masturbation. The union also recommends a pair of books by ideologues who argue that America is systemically racist: “White Fragility” by Robin DiAngelo and “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man” by Emmanuel Acho. These are listed under “Books to Celebrate or Understand Juneteenth.” Why not a history book about slavery or the Civil War? Mr. Acho, a former professional football player and son of Nigerian immigrants, writes that “we will never achieve a post racial America as long as the gears of systemic racism continue to churn.” He lectures white people: “You’ve likely spent your whole life enjoying the fruits of systemic racism and never having to directly engage with its fallout.” Ms. DiAngelo sings a similar tune: “A racism-free upbringing is not possible, because racism is a social system embedded in the culture and its institutions. We are born into this system and have no say in whether we will be affected by it.”  In light of recent parent revolts against ideological indoctrination in schools, you’d think the unions would be at pains to reassure the public that they’re nonpartisan. Instead, they’re doubling down on politics. Then again, at some point the NEA added a disclaimer to its list: “The books here are not recommended for students.” On that we can all agree."

Teacher Unions' Cries of Censorship | National Review - "the teachers’ unions are shameless and can afford to be. Apart from Scott Walker’s Act 10, which, as good as it was, did little to uproot entrenched political interests in Wisconsin’s public schools, many U.S. states cannot muster the stones to limit the powers of these groups — Pennsylvania’s governor Josh Shapiro being just the latest example of rote obedience to the pedagogic goon squads.  The unions need to be broken, and Republican candidates had better figure out messaging and policies that can wrest control from these groups while limiting the thus-far-successful ululations that typically come from those quarters. Teachers break out some posterboard, write “For the Kids,” and state governments just roll over and approve pay hikes. We even grant teachers two months every summer to take time off and work on their picketing skills — unreal.  The unions know this to be a war; they write as much on the covers of their publications. As an unhappy recipient of the neaToday physical magazine, owing to my wife’s work, I see that June’s cover depicts an individual built like a brick smokehouse with a raised nose; her sneer seems calibrated to within .01 microfarads of perfectly disdainful capacitance. Alongside, read the words “We Will Not Erase History,” and an obvious shot at Florida and Texas, states that wisely demurred from teaching the Howard Zinn and Nikole Hannah-Jones histories. Conservatives are correct to push sexually explicit books and bunk history from schools. Even better, we stop there and say, “It’s inappropriate in this space, but feel free to publish and purchase it on your own.” For that, the Right is accused of “book banning.” Hush. Weeds in my neighbor’s yard are no problem, but the second they cross into a shared space or my yard, I have the right to remove the lawn canker. The Right isn’t preventing the publication, lobbying against their sale, or revising them into alphabet soup. All we ask is that you keep your trash books to yourselves. That conservatives, Hays Code–enjoyers that we were, must act more like liberals than the self-described liberals is unacceptable."

Systemic Racism in Auto Insurance Exists and Must Be Addressed By Insurance Commissioners and Lawmakers - "Structural racism is being maintained in auto insurance, making state-mandated auto coverage more expensive for African American drivers than white drivers, according to research conducted by the Consumer Federation of America (CFA). The pricing disparities are driven in part by the use of several socio-economic “factors” in premium setting that do not reflect personal driving history but are proxies for race... Auto insurance companies often charge higher premiums to:
safe drivers who rent their home than those who own;
single customers than married ones;
drivers with less education than those with more;
blue collar workers than white collar professionals; and
those with lower credit scores."
Damn racist minorities driving up premiums for other minorities!

Minority Neighborhoods Pay Higher Car Insurance Premiums Than White Areas With the Same Risk - "For decades, auto insurers have been observed to charge higher average premiums to drivers living in predominantly minority urban neighborhoods than to drivers with similar safety records living in majority white neighborhoods. Insurers have long defended their pricing by saying that the risk of accidents is greater in those neighborhoods, even for motorists who have never had one.  But a first-of-its-kind analysis by ProPublica and Consumer Reports, which examined auto insurance premiums and payouts in California, Illinois, Texas and Missouri, has found that many of the disparities in auto insurance prices between minority and white neighborhoods are wider than differences in risk can explain...   In 1972, they passed a law requiring insurers to use a single territorial rate within the city of Chicago for bodily injury coverage. “No one will be helped more than those in the inner city,” predicted Illinois State Rep. Bernard Epton.  But the reality has turned out differently. For many insurers we examined, premiums were high for everyone within the city of Chicago, regardless of risk, compared to the rest of the state. This means that, since Chicago contains one-third of the state’s minority neighborhoods, they are still being overcharged."
When you ignore insurance fraud to paint a misleading picture
Insurers just hate Chicago, apparently

White House Condemns Holocaust Comment Made By Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld - "Gutfeld was reacting to fellow panelist Jessica Tarlov, who holds the liberal seat on the show. She was talking about the new Florida curriculum, which has drawn heavy criticism for a provision that students be taught that slaves developed skills “which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.” Tarlov said that she was “fundamentally uncomfortable” with that provision, and said that it was similar to someone pointing out that Jews in concentration camps during the Holocaust “learned a strong work ethic.” Gutfeld then pointed to Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning, and how he talks about “how you had to survive in a concentration camp by having skills. You had to be useful. Utility kept you alive.” White House spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement, “What Fox News allowed to be said on their air yesterday – and has so far failed to condemn – is an obscenity. In defending a horrid, dangerous, extreme lie that insults the memory of the millions of Americans who suffered from the evil of enslavement, a Fox News host told another horrid, dangerous and extreme lie that insults the memory of the millions of people who suffered from the evils of the Holocaust.”... Gutfeld’s remark also drew a statement from the Auschwitz Memorial, which said that a comment like Gutfeld’s was an oversimplification that should be avoided... In the White House statement, first reported by CNN, Bates said, “Let’s get something straight that the American people understand full well and that is not complicated: there was nothing good about slavery; there was nothing good about the Holocaust. Full stop. Americans deserve to be brought together, not torn apart with poison. And they deserve the truth and the freedom to learn, not book bans and lies.”"
Liberals love governments determining what a "valid" history narrative is when it's a liberal narrative
The US federal government needs to set up a Ministry of Truth to determine what is a lie and what is a truth
Adding nuance is an oversimplification. Freedom is slavery

'Powerful tools of White Supremacy': Embattled anti-racism group speaks out to supporters - "The organization embroiled in a scandal after receiving a $133,000 government contract for an anti-racism project, even though one of its founders had sent a slew of bigoted tweets, has finally spoken out, issuing an email to supporters that says “online and mainstream media are powerful tools of White Supremacy.”  In the email, the Community Media Advocacy Centre (CMAC) says it received a letter from the Department of Canadian Heritage suspending the anti-racism project for the broadcasting sector they had been working on... “You know all those loud mouthed bags of human feces, aka the Jewish White Supremacists; when we liberate Palestine and they have to go back to where they come from, they will return to being low voiced bitches of thier Christian/Secular White Supremacist Masters.”... Anthony Housefather, a Liberal member of Parliament, said he had warned Hussen about Marouf’s statements prior to the media catching wind of them.  “I said the contract had to be cancelled. I alerted him and I persistently communicated with the minister in his office, from the day I learned about it, until today, and aggressively demanded that action be taken,” Housefather told the National Post. “Action could have been taken more quickly.”...   Marouf has a long history of edgy tweets: He has claimed Israel was the creation of “White Jews who adopted Nazism,” and said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is the head of an “Apartheid” colony.  Irwin Cotler — a Jewish-Canadian and former Liberal justice minister — was called the “Grand Wizard of Zionism” and a man who “looks like a d–k without makeup.” In 2021, Marouf said “Jewish White Supremacists” deserve only a “bullet to the head.”"
Anti-racists are once again the biggest racists
Of course liberals will claim that anti-Zionism is not anti-Semitism (despite what no less than Martin Luther King Jr observed), even though they're always on about "dog whistles" (i.e. defaming others by pretending they meant something they didn't actually say)

Meme - Carl Benjamin: "Joel doesn't realise what a compliment this is. Being a decent human being is puzzling to leftists. Parents’ anger at ‘divisive’ primary school science homework that ‘excludes white men’ - "A North London primary school that offered non-white students extra lessons urged its pupils to “challenge the myth” that scientists are “old men… with crazy white hair,” GB News can reveal.  Science homework given at Coldfall Primary School in Muswell Hill called on pupils to look for scientists from “outside of Europe and America.” The homework recommends a list of scientists worth considering, which does not feature any white men. On its list of scientists to “avoid”, it lists Albert Einstein, Louis Pasteur and Stephen Hawking.  A parent with a pupil at the school told GB News: “This science homework has nothing to do with science at all. It was purely a means of pushing their divisive message on race, and insulting and belittling a whole group of people based on their appearance.  “Why are white men pushed off the curriculum?”  Alka Sehgal Cuthbert, director of grassroots campaign group Don’t Divide Us, said: “Coldfall is reducing science to a question of ethnic identity and social and political power. This is a travesty.”... the school urged its pupils to take a controversial anti-racism pledge. The pledge starts with the motto “Intent does not supersede impact.”  Among other commitments, the pledge asks children to be “actively anti-racist.”  The pledge was developed by the school’s Inclusion and Anti-Racism Group (IARG). It is displayed in all classrooms.  On the school’s website, it claims that it is being supported by an external consultant that delivers “inclusion, belonging and anti-racism training within the education sector.”... the head of the school’s IARG said the pledge will be “signed by all classes in the school.”  Last month, Coldfall made headlines after it was revealed that the school was receiving council-funded extra weekend classes for children from black backgrounds... The school called in an independent investigator after parents complained, but they dismissed the complaint.  One parent said that the extra classes were discriminatory because educational attainment for disadvantaged groups is lower for white British pupils than the other main ethnic groups across the country."

Douyin trolls are adopting American racism to taunt Black users - "Mitchell Sherman moved from Minnesota to teach English in China. A kindergarten teacher in the northeastern city of Liaoning, he started posting selfies to lifestyle app Xiaohongshu in February. That’s when Sherman, who is Black, started experiencing online racist attacks.  Sherman started receiving insulting comments and direct messages from a number of accounts on the platform. These accounts had profile pictures depicting the Confederate flag, unidentified white police officers from the U.S., and even Derek Chauvin, the former officer convicted of killing George Floyd. One comment said, “Please go back to America as a slave, Black man.”... Douyin and microblogging site Weibo have also blocked a trending hashtag — “Do not worship foreigners” — which was widely used to protest against Black immigrants"
Damn white supremacy! Anti-colonialism ("反对崇洋媚外") is racist!
