Links - 18th May 2022 (1 - Trans Mania [including JK Rowling])

The war against JK Rowling: How one woman became a hate figure in the debate on gender and sex - "It would have been laughable had anyone suggested three years ago that Rowling would come to be seen as the public face of social conservatism, disowned by her fans and denounced by the actors who became famous as the characters she wrote. For that to happen, it would take an issue of staggering toxicity and an atmosphere of extraordinary moral certainty. For that to happen, it would take a collision with the trans activist movement. Rowling’s position in the gender wars first began to emerge publicly in 2018. This was relatively late: the feminist journalist Julie Bindel had been covering the issue in the UK since the 2000s, and other writers gradually entered the fray thereafter. There had been a steady increase in interest since 2016, when the Women and Equalities Committee published its report into transgender equality. This adopted several activist demands, including calling for gender to be legally recognised on the basis of self-identification rather than requiring the approval of experts... “If we think there are good reasons to retain same-sex spaces generally… these reasons don’t cease to operate when males self-identify as women,” writes the philosopher Kathleen Stock. Experience has shown the legitimacy of such concerns. Cases such as that of Karen White – a male rapist who identified as a woman and was placed in a women’s prison (despite not having a GRC), and who went on to sexually assault women inmates – show that the embrace of gender identity can have real and damaging consequences for women. Another important factor is that the definition of “trans” has changed dramatically since the GRA was introduced less than two decades ago. In 2004, the phrase “trans person” was rarely used – instead, the concept of “transition” was understood to refer to transsexuals, meaning people who had altered their sexual characteristics to live as the opposite sex. Think of the British author Jan Morris (who described her transition from male to female in her 1974 book Conundrum) or the American porn star Buck Angel, who both used surgery and hormones to better fit their bodies to their self-perception. But during the 2010s, that understanding began to be seen as outdated. Increasingly, it was claimed that requiring someone to undergo surgery in order to be recognised as their “true self ” was unreasonable. GRCs had been designed as a way to give legal status to people who had physically “changed sex”; now, activists began to argue that making someone’s gender status contingent on surgery that effectively rendered them sterile by removing reproductive organs amounted to “forced sterilisation”. In other words, having a fully functioning penis should be no barrier to being a woman... By the end of 2020, all three main Harry Potter stars had either directly condemned or unambiguously distanced themselves from Rowling: none offered support to her as a victim of domestic violence. Potter fan sites hurried to assert their support for the trans cause, and opposition to the creator of the work they loved. If you visit The Leaky Cauldron, you’re greeted by a lightning bolt logo decked out in the pink and blue of the trans flag. Even when Rowling was not being outright abused and ostracised, the best she could expect was to be pathologised: a profile in New York magazine asked “Who Did JK Rowling Become?” and concluded that she was a woman so scarred by fame that she had lost the ability to feel sympathy for anyone outside her immediate experience. Only psychological damage could explain why a woman whose politics had previously been “comfortably center left” could have embarked on a path which was – to her detractors – selfevidently bigoted and cruel. But it’s not true to say that Rowling’s politics have always been “comfortable”. As her engagements on Indyref, Corbyn and Brexit show, she was very willing to get her hands dirty when she felt it was required. Part of the severity of the backlash to her stems from the fact that – in the first two cases – she aligned herself against lost causes for which trans rights have subsequently become a proxy battle. In the case of Scottish independence, going further than Westminster on trans issues has been a way for the SNP to show its reforming credentials, while in the post-Corbyn Labour left, trans rights have been adopted as a badge of distinction. This only helps to explain some of the reaction in the UK, though. The extremity of the global condemnation of Rowling has to be understood in the context of who she is. As the creator of a generation’s most beloved character, Rowling was not just treasured, but coveted. There was a feeling that she somehow belonged to her fans. Her failure to take the required line was experienced as more than a disappointment. It was a crushing betrayal by a symbolic mother. Rowling’s beliefs are that sex is real, that male violence is a problem, that women should be able to talk about themselves in clear language, and that no woman should lose her job for expressing such opinions. No critics have convincingly explained why believing these things hurts trans people. The rage against Rowling is actually rage against her for being a woman who has not politely faded into the background, but who has instead asserted her voice and her boundaries. That is what is specifically infuriating about her – and it’s why one of the favoured tactics from her attackers was to reply to her tweets with images of pornography. The sexual nature of the violation was not accidental. But Rowling has not buckled under the abuse. She is, for now, the inadvertent figurehead of a highly contentious issue; but she is too much her own woman to be reduced to a caricature by anyone."
Weird. Vaxholes tell us covid vaccines aren't forced unless you're put up to them at gunpoint

Meme - Assigned Male Comics: "IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED, PUTIN LITERALLY BLAMED THE INVASION OF UKRAINE ON TRANS RIGHTS, "GENDER IDEOLOGY" AND THE PRIDE MOVEMENT. IT'S NOT A COINCIOENCE THAT HE'S NOW COMING UP IN SUPPORT OF J.K. ROWLING, PROBABLY THE MOST INFAMOUS TRANS- PHOBE ON EARTH. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE AND TRANS!"
Imagine stretching this much

Meme - "At 16 I was prescribed testosterone after 2 "therapy" visits. They didn't ask about my bpd or past trauma. I now have PCOS, am awaiting testing to determine if I need a cancer, and I will never be able to afford breast reconstruction. My consent was not informed"
J.K. Rowling on Twitter - "This breaks my heart. I've now spoken to many young women who tell similar stories. I'm appalled that you were let down in this way by people who had a duty of care towards you. Hoping to god the tests give good news and sending you much love ❤️‍🩹"

Quidditch to change name, citing J.K. Rowling's 'anti-trans positions' - "Real-life quidditch, inspired by the magical game in "Harry Potter," is changing its name, citing author J.K. Rowling's "anti-trans positions in recent years... US Quidditch and Major League Quidditch also voiced their support for trans people and diversity, saying the sport has "developed a reputation as one of the most progressive sports in the world on gender equality and inclusivity, in part thanks to its gender maximum rule, which stipulates that a team may not have more than four players of the same gender on the field at a time."... "The sport needs its own space without limits on its growth potential and changing the name is crucial to achieving that.""
Massive lack of self-awareness. The sport wouldn't exist without her
Since there're now infinite genders, good luck with the maximum of 4

J.K. Rowling's Name Dropped From School After Requests by Students, Staff - "A high school that named one of its houses after J.K. Rowling has rebranded it over the Harry Potter author's involvement in ongoing controversies around the transgender community.  The Boswells School in Chelmsford, Essex, in eastern England, has decided to drop Rowling's name from the institution over her views which they have said do not "align" with that of the school's. The high school is divided into six houses "represented by British citizens who have excelled" with the others named after other notable figures; Sir David Attenborough, Charlotte Brontë, John Travers Cornwell VC, Stephen Hawking and Florence Nightingale... Rowling reacted to an article that referred to "people who menstruate," tweeting: "I'm sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?"  She also defended her stance saying: "If sex isn't real, there's no same-sex attraction.""

Meme - "Nothing moves faster than light, except for the left's spiralling down into the extreme and absurd. We went from JK Rowling calling PewDiePie a fascist (2017), to other far leftists calling JK Rowling a klanswoman (2021) pretty damn fast."

JK Rowling’s name practically erased from new Fantastic Beasts trailer following transphobia accusations - "The trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, released on 14 December this year, features Rowling’s name in the small print at the very end, rather than in large lettering, as had been seen throughout the other two trailers, where it was included in promotional lines such as “JK Rowling invites you” and “From writer JK Rowling”... Rowling faced more accusations of transphobia after she criticised the Scottish police for announcing they will start recording rapes based on the attacker’s gender identity. Reacting to the news, Rowling tweeted: “War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. The Penis-ed Individual Who Raped You Is a Woman.”"

NYT is bombarded with ad campaign asking people to imagine Harry Potter WITHOUT JK Rowling - "“So I canceled my @nytimes sub because it tried to cancel @jk_rowling,” another twitter user wrote. ‘Even the offer of a year’s allowance for $0.25 a week couldn’t convince me to stay with a newspaper that despises women so much that it celebrates the cancellation of a female author in an ad mine.” ...   Two Quidditch federations – the United States Quidditch and Major League Quidditch – released a statement late last year explaining that they were looking to change their names to distance themselves from Rowling and her ‘anti’ views.   Last month, a 42-minute special commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Harry Potter series aired on HBO Max – amazingly, the brainchild of the seven books that inspired the movies were mentioned only ten times, and The author was significantly absent from the special, although the film’s actors and directors were interviewed."

Guardian readers back JK Rowling after trans row | The Spectator - "Despite incidents – like her credit being downsized to being barely visible in the trailer for the forthcoming Fantastic Beasts sequel – the writer retains her popularity with fans, something the Guardian discovered when it asked its readers 'Tell us: who is your 2021 Person of the Year?'  An online social media campaign swiftly ensured to put Rowling's name forward, with supporters writing on the submission form their reasons for why she ought to be 'Person of the Year.' Subsequently, the Guardian closed all entries and suddenly deactivated its submission form. Could it be because right-on hacks wanted to be spared the embarrassment of giving such publicity to Britain's most famous living writer?... the Guardian gets in touch to say that the decision to close the survey form was unrelated to any write-in campaign"

J.K. Rowling on Twitter - "I wish you a very nice pipebomb in mailbox" "To be fair, when you can’t get a woman sacked, arrested or dropped by her publisher, and cancelling her only made her book sales go up, there’s really only one place to go... now hundreds of trans activists have threatened to beat, rape, assassinate and bomb me I’ve realised that this movement poses no risk to women whatsoever."

JK Rowling Blasts Trans Activists After Death Threat: ‘This Movement Poses No Risk To Women Whatsoever’ - "Rowling replied to a critic who quoted her saying, “I’ve ignored porn tweeted at children.” Rowling fired back, “Juan, I’ll give you a moment to think hard about leaving that up. I reported every bit of porn so-called trans allies tweeted into Twitter threads where children were sending me artwork for the Ickabog. I didn’t respond or retweet it because I didn’t want more kids to see it.”... In December 2020, following a British High Court ruling that it would be difficult for children under the age of 16 believing they are transgender to give informed consent to undergo treatment with puberty-blocking drugs, Rowling stated in an interview with Good Housekeeping magazine that when it came to discussing transgender issues, “Many are afraid to speak up because they fear for their jobs and even for their personal safety. This climate of fear serves nobody well, least of all trans people.”  Rowling, who had been reviled by many members of the transgender community for her stance on transgenderism, stated: “Many women are concerned about the challenges to their fundamental rights posed by certain aspects of gender identity ideology. I’ve had a huge postbag since speaking up on this issue and more than 90 per cent of the letters and emails have been supportive. My correspondents have included medical staff, social workers, prison workers, workers in women’s refuges and members of the LGBT community, including trans people.”"

J.K. Rowling Rips Trans Radicals: Prove You Aren't a Threat to Women, 'Stop Stalking and Threatening Us' - "Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling slammed transgender radicals after her family was doxxed, and said the best way left-wing activists can “prove your movement isn’t a threat to women, is to stop stalking, harassing and threatening us.”  Rowling said Monday that her “family’s address was posted on Twitter by three activist actors who took pictures of themselves in front of our house, carefully positioning themselves to ensure that our address was visible.”...   The author went on to list several feminist activists and other women who have been under attack after speaking out against transgender issues invading women’s rights.  “Over the last few years I’ve watched, appalled, as women like Allison Bailey, Raquel Sanchez, Marion Miller, Rosie Duffield, Joanna Cherry, Julie Bindel, Rosa Freedman, Kathleen Stock and many, many others, including women who have no public profile”...   The author went on to list several feminist activists and other women who have been under attack after speaking out against transgender issues invading women’s rights.  “Over the last few years I’ve watched, appalled, as women like Allison Bailey, Raquel Sanchez, Marion Miller, Rosie Duffield, Joanna Cherry, Julie Bindel, Rosa Freedman, Kathleen Stock and many, many others, including women who have no public profile”"

Escape The Echo Chamber - Posts | Facebook - "I must say, I’m impressed with J.K. Rowling’s stiff backbone as she is assaulted in word and print for defending the rights of natal women. She doesn’t threaten. She doesn’t intimidate. Rowling speaks her truth and those she’s spoken with. Unfortunately, some trans activists see her advocacy as a threat to their agenda; both should be able to voice their concerns and beliefs freely with recrimination."

Jason Isaacs interview: ‘I won't be stabbing JK Rowling in the back’ - "“She has her opinions, I have mine. They differ in many different areas. But one of the things that people should know about her too – not as a counter-argument – is that she has poured an enormous amount of her fortune into making the world a much better place, for hundreds of thousands of vulnerable children, through her charity Lumos. And that is unequivocally good. Many of us Harry Potter actors have worked for it, and seen on the ground the work that they do.   “So for all that she has said some very controversial things, I was not going to be jumping to stab her in the front – or back – without a conversation with her, which I've not managed to have yet.”"

J.K. Rowling and YouTuber Vaush Spar Over International Women's Day Tweet - ""Apparently, under a Labour government, today will become We Who Must Not Be Named Day"... popular left-wing YouTube personality Ian "Vaush" Kochinski slammed the writer Tuesday afternoon.  "All JK Rowling had to do was shut the f*** up and she could have been almost uncritically beloved for like a century," Vaush wrote. "Women be quieter and start apologizing challenge"... "What you and your ilk fail to appreciate is how tediously familiar I find your tactics. I had a violent ex-husband who used to tell me life would be great if only I'd comply, but you're making the same mistake he did. Women like me can't be bullied out of resistance"... Vaush replied about 10 minutes later in the thread, addressing the author directly.  "Listen Joanne you don't get to play the victim card when you're the advocate for taking away women's rights here," he wrote. "Trans women are raped and killed in men's facilities and you want to keep them there because of your trauma. Quit making your feelings other people's oppression"  He later retweeted Rowling's complaint, accusing the author of being a "crybully," a person who plays the victim while harassing others, according to dictionary.com... The flashpoint launching the majority of accusations against Rowling was her support of Maya Forstater, who had an unpaid visiting fellow affiliation with the Center for Global Development not renewed, following comments about trans people. The Center for Global Development told Newsweek that its decision not to renew Forstater's affiliation "in part as a result of the distress and harm to staff members that was caused by a series of disrespectful and offensive statements that Ms. Forstater made inside and outside CGD, related to trans people."... In an essay titled "TERF Wars"—in reference to the acronym for "Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist"—Rowling said that her previous abuse at the hands of her ex-husband made her fear that men may lie about being transgender in order to gain entry to women's-only spaces."
Ironic.

Most Americans Side With J.K. Rowling: Only Two Genders - "The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 75% of American Adults agree that there are only two genders, male and female. That total includes 63% who Strongly Agree. Eighteen percent (18%) disagree... Critics have labeled Rowling a “purveyor of hate speech” for saying that there are two biologically distinct genders.  However, only 17% of Americans believe this is “hate speech,” while 58% support Rowling and 25% are not sure.   By more than a 3-to-1 margin, Americans oppose a key educational policy of the transgender movement. Sixty-eight percent (68%) believe schools and teachers should not be allowed to counsel students on their sexual and gender identities without parental knowledge or consent. Only 19% believe schools should be allowed to engage in such counseling without parental consent... Majorities of all political categories – 80% of Republicans, 54% of Democrats and 72% of those unaffiliated with either major party – are opposed to schools counseling children on gender identity without informing parents... Married Americans and those with children at home are more supportive of Rowling than the unmarried and childless.   Americans with incomes of $200,000 a year or more are most likely to disagree with the statement that there are only two genders, male and female."

When My Partner Threatens Suicide - "what if your partner regularly threatens suicide, particularly whenever you’re not doing something he or she wants you to do, or when you’re trying to leave the relationship? First, understand that this is a form of emotional abuse: your partner is trying to manipulate you by playing on your feelings of love and fear for them. You might get angry when this happens, but you also might feel like you have to give in to them in order to avoid a potential tragedy. When your partner makes these threats repeatedly, there are steps you can take to protect yourself and possibly help your partner as well.
Tell your partner you care about them, but stick to your boundaries.
Giving in to threats over and over does not make a relationship healthy, and it only creates anger and resentment on your end. You could say something like, “You know I care about you very much, and I understand you’re upset right now, but I will not _____.”
Put the choice to live or die where it belongs - on your partner.
You can’t be responsible for another person’s actions, no matter what – and this includes when your partner chooses to be abusive. An optional response is: “I think our relationship should be based on love and respect, not threats. I really care about you, but this is your choice and I can’t stop you from making it.”
Remember that no matter what your partner says, you don’t have to prove anything.
Even though they might be saying something like, “If you really loved me, you’d stop me from killing myself,” the real truth is that there are unhealthy patterns in your relationship. Until those unhealthy patterns are addressed, they will most likely continue no matter how many times you give in to your partner’s demands.
If your partner often says they’re going to kill themselves when things aren’t going their way, they’re not showing you love – they’re likely trying to control your actions"

Scottish four-year-olds can change gender at school without parents’ consent - "A 70-page document, issued to schools north of the border on Thursday, calls on teachers not to question pupils if they say that they want to transition to live as a boy or a girl and to instead ask them for their new name and pronouns.  The controversial guidance claims that it is possible to “come out” as transgender “at any age” and that the views of young people should be respected if they do not want their parents to be informed... One book included tells a story about a blue crayon which suffers an identity crisis because it was mistakenly labelled as red.  Another features a primary school-age narrator who says she has “a girl brain but a boy body” and claimed she knew that she was transgender as a toddler.  The character claims “pretending I was a boy felt like telling a lie” until an “amazing day” when she went to a doctor who diagnosed her as transgender.  The guidance has been published ahead of the new school year in Scotland and weeks after Richard Branson’s eldest daughter, Holly, revealed she had lived as a boy between the ages of four and 10, only to revert to her female identity. Studies have shown that the vast majority of such children revert to their biological sex identity if untreated, although the quality and methodology of some of the research has been disputed.  Scottish teachers are urged not to say "it’s just a phase" if a child states they are transgender and to instead “be affirming” of how they feel. Despite a prominent Scottish lawyer, Aidan O’Neill, recently writing a legal opinion which argued a school supporting a child’s wish to switch gender without informing parents was potentially illegal, teachers have been urged to respect children’s wishes"

WATCH: 60 Minutes speaks to those who have 'detransitioned' after undergoing medical gender transition | The Post Millennial - "Lidinsky-Smith went off  testosterone and when she went back to the climic, she told them that she didn't think the process they undertook in her case followed the appropriate WPATH guidelines... Lidinsky-Smith told her story in her own words on Substack. "As I write this, the mastectomy scars are twinging on my chest. 4 years later, I've grown older, wiser, and way more cautious. But the scars remain."

>>That five-o-clock shadow and the body hair?
Gross.
>>Too-tight, hideous clothing? You should be embarrassed.
>>Poorly-done makeup and hair? I can't believe you left your house like that.
Why is it that all I ever see is nonstop validation without any honesty? I can't spend two minutes in a makeup or fashion group without some dude with raccoon-eye liner being told how "pretty" he is. That's not how the world treats women, we don't receive kindness for nothing, particularly on our appearances. Why are you othering them if you really think they're women? It's invalidating to not treat them the way you would treat women. It's almost as if... you know they aren't."

Bill Maher Shreds 'Woke' Politics: 'Letting 3-Year-Olds Decide' Their Gender 'Wasn't Something 5 Years Ago' - "“Real Time” host Bill Maher insists that his political views have not changed, rather that a “woke” ideology has influenced politics...   “When you say ‘woke,’ you know, and I make fun of it too, because it’s become an eye-roll in many ways,” Maher said. “I assume at a certain moment and it wasn’t that long ago before we didn’t have the term… it was like alert to injustice, and I went, ‘Ok, I’m down with that.'”...   “I haven’t changed at all. My politics hasn’t changed. [Liberals have] changed”... “People say to me sometimes, you know, ‘Have you changed?’ No. It’s that five years ago, no one was talking about defunding the police. I never heard that phrase five years ago. That’s not me changing. That’s things changing. I’m reacting to it.”  “Letting three-year-olds decide what gender they are. Parenting a Transgender Child: Advice from a Mama on how to support your child, and your own feelings - "My child told me they were gay at the age of 14, while they were still in high school at UWCSEA in Singapore. UWCSEA is a very inclusive school and they are great about diversity and making everyone feel comfortable in their skin. My child had a fantastic experience at school.  It was in their second year of college in New York that they came out as transgender. The college is incredibly supportive of their trans students, with gender-neutral bathrooms and the usage of everyone’s preferred pronouns, etc."

Sam Smith excluded from gendered categories at 2021 Brit awards - "Sam Smith, the pop singer whose gender identity is non-binary, has been excluded from the gendered categories at the 2021 Brit awards.  The awards system has maintained its usual artist categories, with prizes for British solo male and British solo female. That means there is no room for Smith, who uses they and them as their pronouns since coming out as non-binary in September 2019. They said at the time: “After a lifetime of being at war with my gender I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out.”... Texas To Potentially Prosecute ‘Sex Change’ Surgeries On Minors As Child Abuse - "Texas’ stance on some sex reassignment surgeries comes as transgenderism in children, teens, and in athletics is a growing issue among state governments. Last year, Arkansas became the first state to ban such surgeries for minors. A number of states have taken action to ban biological males from competing in female sports."

60 companies want Texas to allow healthy kids to irreversibly mutilate their bodies | The Post Millennial - "The Human Rights Campaign has taken out a full page ad in the Dallas Morning News to display an open letter signed by over 60 companies condemning actions states have made to prohibit doctors from prescribing cross-sex hormones and performing genital mutilation surgery on children... The letter continued on to take aim at orders given by Texas Governor Greg Abbott to investigate families for child-abuse if those parents allow children to take cross-sex or puberty blocking drugs, neither of which has been FDA approved for that purpose, or that have facilitated bodily mutilation surgery on their children so that those children's bodies appear as those of the opposite sex, whether genital surgery or double mastectomies of healthy breasts... Signed on to the bottom of the letter are 65 companies, which includes Apple, Ben & Jerry’s, Google, LinkedIn, Meta, Microsoft, PayPal, and Yahoo. While Disney didn’t sign onto the letter, CEO Bob Chapek has announced that they would be donating $5 million to Human Rights Watch. This came after Chapek proposed a meeting with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis over an anti-grooming law that prevents activist teachers from indoctrinating K-3 students in gender ideology and makes it illegal for schools to keep secret children's gender transition or gender identity exploration from parents."

Sydney Watson exposes Texas gender identity clinic for performing breast removal on 12-year-olds | The Post Millennial - "Sydney Watson exposed a gender identity clinic in Texas that, until very, very recently, was performing double mastectomies on the healthy breasts of 12-year-olds, for the purpose of pediatric gender transition. This is the same clinic where Blaire White claimed to have been treated... "A friend of mine told me about clinics here in Texas that perform surgeries on young teens," Watson says, "So I had my friend Arielle Scarcella call up." What ensues in Scarcella's phone call with what Watson revealed to The Post Millenial to be the American Institute of Plastic Surgery in Plano, Tex., is a disturbing account of just how easy it is for children to be ushered into irreversible surgeries and drug treatments in service to gender identity. "The woman on the phone tells Ariel that they now cannot perform surgeries on anyone below the age of 18 due to proposed law changes here in Texas. That means that they would be turned in if they mutilated a 13-year-old"... The clinic "offers a number of male to female (MTF) cosmetic procedures that are critical in the surgical transformation from a male to female," the site states. "These procedures include: Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS), Breast Augmentation, Orchiectomy (Inguinal Orchiectomy), Body Contouring and Liposuction, In addition, we also mastectomy (the removal of breast tissue) for female to male (FTM) sex change operations."  The rep was speaking about the opinion issued by the Texas Attorney General, in which he concluded that "certain procedures done on minors such as castration, fabrication of a 'penis' using tissue from other body parts, fabrication of a 'vagina' involving the removal of male sex organs, prescription of puberty-suppressors and infertility-inducers, and the like are all 'abuse' under section 261.001 of the Texas Family Code."... The rep at the American Institute of Plastic Surgery lamented this opinion... The Texas clinic is not an outlier, not by a long shot. Watson brings up additional doctors and clinics that are not only willing to perform surgical mutilation of healthy children who have yet to complete puberty or have a first sexual experience, but encourages the procedures for children, whether they have been approved for surgery by a therapist or not... One of these doctors believes so-called sex-change operations should be available to pre-pubescent children, as well as teens. This doctor spoke about Avery Jackson, a child who was profiled by The New York Times in 2018 and was featured in the HBO documentary "Transhood.""

Trans teen given two funerals because parents fought over his gender - "A 15-year-old who tragically died by suicide has been given two separate funerals after his parents argued over his gender in court.  The Perth schoolboy – who cannot be named for legal reasons – died on 4 March in hospital, days after attempting to take his life... the teen’s estranged parents went to the Family Court of Western Australia after they failed to agree on his funeral arrangements, including which name to put on their son’s headstone...   The boy’s mother told the West Australian that her son “would hate” to be deadnamed at his memorial. She said: “[His father] wanted all the ashes [interred together] and [his son’s birth name] on the plaque.  “I would agree to have [the birth name] in brackets but his [chosen name] first.”  Eventually, the parents agreed to split their son’s ashes and put both names on any memorial plaques. However, the 15-year-old’s deadname will appear on his death certificate because, before his death, he was unable to legally change it on his birth certificate."

Hospital told police patient was not raped because alleged attacker was transgender - "A hospital told the police that a patient could not have been raped because her alleged attacker was trans, the House of Lords has heard.   The attack took place a year ago and the woman reported it but when officers contacted the hospital, which has not been named, they were told “that there was no male in the hospital, therefore the rape could not have happened”.   Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, who raised the issue during a debate on single-sex wards, continued: “They forgot that there was CCTV, nurses and observers.   “None the less, it has taken nearly a year for the hospital to agree that there was a male on the ward and, yes, this rape happened...   The legal definition of rape means that it can only be carried out by a physically intact man...   Lady Nicholson said that the case had arisen as a direct result of the NHS policy – known as Annex B - which allows patients to be placed on single-sex wards according to the gender with which they identify at the time.   “The result of Annex B is that hospital trusts inform ward sisters and nurses that if there is a male, as a trans person, in a female ward, and a female patient or anyone complains, they must be told that it is not true - there is no male there”...   The policy is being reviewed by the NHS but as this newspaper revealed, one of those carrying out that review is a “trans advocate”."
It is transphobia to say that trans people can rape

Sam Barber on Twitter - "Thousands of women have been suspended by Twitter for observing that sex is real. I keep a record of the most egregious examples, in instances where I see the suspension notice. Here is the most recent example in that thread."
"353. Congresswomen must agree that women's sports are for men pretending to be women, otherwise Twitter will ban them. #TwitterHatesWomen"

Annette Neary 🇮🇪 on Twitter - "I have had to look after the likes of racists, murderers, rapists and paedophiles. That's the job. I have an ethical duty to do so. These people can't handle women with an opinion they disagree with? When *children's safety* is at stake?"

Great Ormond Street cancels trainee doctor conference over trans ‘safety’ complaints - "Great Ormond Street Hospital has been forced to cancel a top trainee doctors conference after trans activists protested that speakers would make Zoom attendees feel “unsafe”...   All trainee child psychiatrist finalists from across London were due to attend the day-long video conference on March 16 on how they can support gender-questioning young people.   High-profile speakers from across the trans debate were invited by a group of trainees at the hospital to speak on panels, including major trans charities, academics and gender-critical groups.  But the programme quickly descended into chaos as trans activists refused to appear alongside gender-critical speakers, trainee doctors sent dossiers of allegations about speakers they disagreed with, and two feminist writers were cancelled.   NHS officials pulled the plug the day before after some internal activists even resorted to using health service whistleblowing procedures to protest about the event, in what has been branded an “outrageous” silencing campaign.  Helen Joyce, an editor at The Economist, was due to discuss her best-seller, Trans: When Ideology Meets Reality, in a panel discussion alongside academics on the opposite side of her gender-critical stance about biological sex being binary and immutable.  But earlier this month she was asked to respond to a list of allegations a trainee child psychiatrist had sent organisers, warning them: “There is no possible way in which this event can possibly be a ‘safe environment’ for LGBTQ+ and especially trans participants.” Following a string of other internal protests, including a speaker refusing to appear alongside her, her invitation was revoked just five days before the event.  Also cancelled was Stephanie Davies-Arai, the director of Transgender Trend, a gender-critical website for parents, after two separate dossiers of allegations were sent to organisers by a trainee doctor and Mermaids, the child trans charity.  In her intervention, Susie Green, the chief executive of Mermaids who was due to speak alongside Ms Davies-Arai and other charities on a panel about support for trans youth, told organisers that Mermaids “cannot be a part of a conference that gives a platform to Transgender Trend, regardless of whether their work is in the public domain or not”.   She went on to tell NHS staff in an email that "in addition to Transgender Trend, I would suggest that CAMHS (child and adolescent mental health services) stay clear of anyone involved with anti-trans pseudo-medical platforms that have been set up with the sole intention of attacking trans people (especially trans youth) and their healthcare.""
Conservatives should claim that their safety is threatened by liberals with different views

She Who Must Not Be Named - "I asked my Twitter followers for the best (non) definitions of “woman” they’d seen on their travels. Here are some of them, followed in each case by my commentary... You can’t define something in terms of itself—that’s an absolutely basic error... Using “female” instead of “woman” is clearly an attempt to avoid circularity. The problem is that “female” is not something you can identify as. It’s a word with an objective definition that holds right across all of biology, and hardly any of the things it refers to are capable of identifying as anything. It means: “of or denoting the sex class that produces large gametes,” and so it refers to peahens (not peacocks), fish eggs (not fish sperm), kangaroo pouches (only the females carry joeys), the pistil of a flower (not its stamens), and so on... The way you define something is to state criteria that enable you to distinguish between things that qualify and things that don’t. A prime number, for example, is “a number that has no divisors but itself and one.” That excludes really rather a lot of numbers: six (two times three), say, and 71,417,010 (12,785 times 5,586). It’s not those numbers’ fault, and it doesn’t mean that they’re not nice numbers. They’re very nice. They’re just not prime... Imagine that your brain has been so rotted by gender studies and queer theory that you genuinely think it reasonable to offer this collection of tired sex stereotypes as a definition of woman. Now suppose you decide that you really had better nod to the fact that they are not a perfect fit for every single woman—and the first example that comes to your mind is… women with autistic disorders. Seriously?... Read many of these, and you can’t help noticing that words such as “limitless” come up a lot. That comes partly from a desire to sound profound and inclusive (see above). But it also has to do with the postmodernist mania for “deconstructing binaries.” A binary is a pair with an inbuilt hierarchy, like man/woman (to choose a non-random example) and to deconstruct it you must demonstrate that the second, supposedly subordinate, category in fact dominates the first. This is meant to be liberating, but in a destroy-the-village-to-save-it kind of way, since it means stealthily redefining that second category to include the first—in other words, blowing it wide open. You will generally notice that the category “man” keeps its meaning. I wonder why?"
