Friday- paper in the morning finished at 11.50am, dallied (waited for everyone to decide on lunch/dinner plans), ended up going to eat at Nam Loong's (cheap chinese restaurant in chinatown) with see seong, jer fuu, weiming, jiaming, chenyi, sarah, albert. See seong and jer fuu and I all ended up buying the same thing- san1 bao3 fan4. Then albert and i went for exuberant post-exam shopping!!!- hopped down to south melbourne market, shopping (and gawking at things including the aforementioned pigs' ears) It's quite cool! but incomparable to the luxuriously tangible atmosphere of notting hill market and camden market in london (and petticoat lane!) ....
Next destination was brunswick (we bypassed queen vic market, thinking there was no time left, which was a mistake on hindsight) heading for the nut factory. Honey coated Macadamia nuts at cheeeep prices!! But we came 20 minutes after they closed (grumble grumble grumble, not like they couldn't just open the till and let us buy a few bags, they were just lingering around the shop anyways)
Dinner at ormond, and headed down to OCF in union house. After that the bunch of them were going to watch the Korea-Portugal match in town- i headed back to catch up on much-needed sleep in the face of brooding headaches.
Saturday was ... woke up at eight to go marketing with sarah in queen vic. Came back laden with boxes for packing- was thinking of doing some shopping, but with my arms full that was a little inconvenient. It didn't help that it was drizzling. Then chadstone shopping- we finally left city at 12 something, ate at a jap restaurant in chadstone (where this bitchy waitress just *had* to make spiteful comments everytime she walked by- and it was a pretty small place so she walked by quite often) and headed back only at 5+.... Skipped dinner at jiaming's house and the fabulous (or so i heard) england-denmark match thereafter- because i had student service in the kitchen.
When i woke up on sunday i was thinking of giving sarah a call, to find out where their baseball match was so i could go down and watch. Then ... it must have slipped my mind. Or something. Lazed around in ormond (sunday brunch just makes meals such a ... draggy place- in a positive sense- everyone just chats away and talks- whiling away almost 2 hours in the dining hall) Was all dressed up n' ready to go shopping, when it occurred to me that i should call chaowan. He wasn't in. I went down intending to give him another call downstairs-ran into him in the corridor.
We sauntered to queen vic for further shopping (i spotted a cool orange jacket albert would love!! must tell him about it!!), then down to the city, taking the city circle tram. Also hopped over to HMV- i couldn't find the cd my brother wanted me to help him get (it's a bartok piano concerto no. 3, played by some specific pianist he likes)- but i did get 3 classicals for $20- a "juvenile tastes collection" of Peter and the Wolf, Young person's guide to the orchestra and Carnival of Animals (played by philadelphia orchestra- i don't think they're particularly good, victor might sneer at them); a Shostakovich string concertos 7,8,9 (shostakovich!!! my musical obsession!!); and another shostakovich piano concertos and sonata (ditto).
Walked around treasury gardens- it was beautiful. Just as we got into city, this fog started rolling in (yes, rolling in) right around us. Was chilly but worth it to see- or rather- not see- the tops of buildings next to us (and melbourne CBD buildings are pretty short for an urban district).
And attended a catholic student mass in St. Francis' church in the evening. This must be the first catholic service i've attended. It lasted exactly 1 hour and parts of the service were in bahasa indonesia, in deference to the large no. of indonesian students attending that service (hordes of them!!). And i explained to chaowan that people from Philippines don't speak bahasa (as he had assumed native people in south-east asia speak); they speak *pilipino*- most speak fluent Tagalog. Tagalog doesn't even sound like malay.
And had dinner at rose garden- it sells rice plus meat plus veg (optional), or soup noodles, for $5.50 to $6.80. Chaowan referred to the restaurant as "middle-class"- hanging at an intermediate standard, between singapore hawker centres and coffee houses. This is in terms of price/charges and quality of food.
Went to watch waking life on emily's free double pass (thanks emily!!!) with chaowan. I warned him it was an artsy film (asked lots of pple if they wanted to watch, they were either busy with exams or not interested. Arrrrgggghhh i forgot abt asking jiaming and chenyi!!) - he didn't really like it; i was enchanted by it!! Our tastes are ... different. He's looking v. much forward to watching the Mandy Moore vehicle "A time to remember".
Then we went around peeking into other theatres- caught the last 4 minutes of "Italian for beginners" and the last 20 minutes of "The last Kiss", both of which are international films and look Good. And i *happened to procure* a "The importance of being earnest" poster for myself. YaaaayyYy!!!!!!!
William ho recommended i read harold pintler. Or something. He got a knight ship i think. Harold i mean. Not william.
Restored Post
We did 3 sets of 6 pullups on Monday (I did 5 assisted ones in the first set and maybe 2 or 3 in the second, and was unable to continue) and my arms hurt till wednesday night and my shoulders started hurting on thursday. Gah.
A new lifeform has been spotted in camp. While marching, we saw a monkey running across the road. It's a zoo in there!
I've found another person in the platoon who doesn't shave. At the same time, I've also found out that one who apparently didn't, does, albeit rarely - 3 days after shaving, no stubble is visible. So that's 3 non-shavers and 1 occasional shaver.
I've a theory about why people don't tire of scolding the same old vulgarities - "fuck" and "chee bye" - over and over again. It's because those are the things they're always thinking about!
Now if we report sick outside camp, we must go to the A&E Departments of public hospitals. And contribute to the queue clogging them and reducing the hospitals' ability to cater to the needs of more seriously ill patients. And the MOs at Maju Medical Centre are very stingy (Steven got 1 day MC for a fever, barely enough to rest at home for a few hours). The life of a trainee is hard indeed.
I thought I'd seen Aravind around camp now and then and indeed I was right - I saw him at Cold Storage Holland V Tuesday night. Only his nametag said "Ganesh", so I wasn't sure it was him, so it was he who approached me. Apparently he's becoming a driver. Lucky guy!
2 consecutive days of night training really sapped me - on my Tuesday night off I was really drained. I hate night training! I'm going to hate field camp.
So many people are interested in going to the Guards to be medics. They must be masochistic. And they are disproportionately Malay (as other people have pointed out), I do wonder why. Maybe they like soldiery more!
I saw one fellow trainee with a Palm IIIxe. On further enquiry, I found that he had a license to use a palmtop in SAF camps, and he got it in OCS as an officer cadet (and not for official purposes too apparently). Maybe when OS5 models come out...
Ever since Khairuldin chided me for saying "Durong Senjata" (Eggplant Rifle. cf "Duron"), I've decided that I'm frustrated with drill commands being in Malay and one day I gave them in English. I've yet to figure out a nice sounding way to command "Halt".
From an angle, one of our female instructors looks a bit like someone Someone Else calls 'Boy Crazy'.
Yew Jin's a bit blur as an i/c - one day, he gave the halt command ('berhenti') when he meant attention. On 3 occasions throughout the day.
Most of the SCDF personnel look quite chubby. Maybe it's the uniform. Or the fact that they only ever go to the cookhouse, the canteen or stay in their room pretending to do work :)
Steven finds a way to link sex to everything. Seeing the BCS tentage, he remarked that you could have a gangbang in there. This is why I am sorely disappointed by the male gender.
Since I bounce so much when I march, they have dedicated part of a song to me - the Gummi Bears' chorus. Unfortunately they only know one part:
"Gummi Bears,
Bouncing here and there and everywhere"
Full lyrics available here.
I cannot say that I've seen this, but I have it on good authority (an eyewitness) that Khairul ate a few large green grasshoppers live. And his tongue was stained green after that. Yeech.
We had nothing to do one day and were waiting in the training shed, and the group I was with started talking about, first pornography and then prostitutes. Since it was the only conversation that was going on in English and I wasn't in the mood to take a catnap, I listened for a while. All of them seemed to be very into the two, why, especially the latter, I know not, most especially because of the lack of emotional gratification. But they seem to like it.
Seetoh observed that "All the bugs here are mutated". Indeed. We have giant ants with white stripes, giant spiders, centipedes that have the texture of Yuppi snacks, miniature scorpions with wings and many many more. Perhaps they have been mutated by something.
The ever efficient SAF outdid itself again by forgetting to indent dinner on Friday (as frequent visitors to this humble weblog will no doubt know), which brought joy to our hearts as we got a night off. However, it outdid itself by not indenting breakfast and lunch on Saturday, which made us trainees very happy again as we got to slumber for an additional 45mins in the morning, and non-guard duty personnel (ie not me) booked out that much earlier.
On Friday, while we were waiting for them to resolve our dinner problem, we were restless in the training shed, when I decided to go sit on a bench inside the "Trainees Mess". Now, SMM is such a wretched place that Officers and Warrant Officers have to share their mess with Specialists. So how could trainees have their own mess? Our little used mess it this small room by the side of Platoon 3's training shed. It's walls reach almost to the rood of the training shed, and there are no windows, making it rather stuffy. It is furnished with 2 benches (with lots of lizard shit on them), a small ceiling light and has plenty of rubbish strewn on the floor (there used to be more before I, in a fit of dilligence, cleaned the place a touch during area cleaning), and on the door is pasted a piece of paper with the words "Trainees Mess!" written on in black marker pen. Well, so I entered the "Mess", closed the door and sat down. After a while, I heard "Fall in" and so opened the door. Or tried to at any rate - a bench had been placed across it by my mischievous platoon mates. After they'd removed the bench, letting me come out, Sergeant Kan, our commando, went in to take a look, and they tried the same trick on him. Only, as Roe had just finished sliding the bench across the door, he came climbing down the wall, having used the bench to jump onto the top of the walls of the room.
The chicken backsides we are served at the cookhouse have become bigger nowadays. Though they are still chicken backsides. I do wonder where they get all these weird chicken parts (collectively brought under the label of 'chicken backsides') from. Probably the same place Monty's (RI canteen vendor company from 1996 to 1999) got them!
We got ice cream for the third time since our course started. Only the second, they'd run out (allegedly because some people took 2 or 3 servings). I wonder how much less SFI is paid for SMM food than BMT food (or indeed SISPEC).
Steven has one of the smallest cordless phones in the world. He brings it to camp and talks merrily away on it. It must also be very powerful, for I cannot see where the base station is. Of course, he gets very upset, for he believes that it is a mobile phone, but I believe he got cheated by the salesman :)
One of the Bruneians, Fazidah wears a rather strong perfume whenever she goes for training. On my enquiry on why she does so, she tried to stab me with her bayonet. "Perfume is half my life". Presumably she meant that she's been wearing perfume half her life.
They found a novel use for the orange tank top they got for Folie for his Miss SMM role on CMC night - they cut it into half and used it as an orange cloth for cleaning rifles. Mmm.
Camo Cream's now a credit item at E-mart, like jacknifes (however you spell it). Yeh. The jackknifes don't say "SAF" on them, so theoretically I could buy 40 a year with my credit and resell them! They're not bad quality too - the blade's very sharp.
We had a Light BCS mode practice, and I was detailed as a Combat Stress Reaction (CSR) casualty. It was fun yelping, screaming and running all over the place! And sort of fun being sat on, restrained and tied with toggle rope.
Guard duty:
I was actually supposed to be on the "Fire Piquet" detail - 4 people who book in on weekends to sleep. However, Nicholas claimed that his knee hurt, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and applied the logical extension of the Golden Rule - Do unto others what you would want others to do unto you - I still remember, during BMT when my feet hurt but Ah Seng refused to let me be a sentry. So he became one of the fire piquet personnel (though this later came back to haunt him - more later).
Our guard commander was very nice, and the 2i/c, 3i/c and Duty Officer are all very relaxed, and our Camp Orderly Specialist, who's 'wayangs' a bit sometimes was nowhere to be seen, so guard duty was quite peaceful. We didn't even have a turnout, even though the guard commander said we'd have one just for practice. Of course, that might be due to the fact that we plied the guardroom sergeants with Pizza! Yes, we ordered Pizza. 2 stuffed crust ones from Pizza Hut (with Garlic Bread and Pepsi, coming to ~$50) and 2 from Malay 2 for 1 (coming to ~$36). Conclusion? Malay 2 for 1 provides very good value! Even if it is a little smaller and less tasty. Of the 4 pizzas ordered, 2 had beef so I took only 2 slices, but Jeremy handed me another slice of Malay 2 for 1 Hawaiian (though they'd sprinkled crushed red pepper on it, which was very hot {I swear, it's is not just crushed red pepper, it's too hot to be just that}, so I tried to brush some of it away). So I sort of got my $8 worth. They actually ordered KFC chicken and yet more pizza, but I was full already.
This time I got to prowl with Daniel [Subagio].
While prowling I heard a hollow, sonorous sound. It turned out to be a squirrel. So now I know what they sound like!
All the cars with MID license plates are horrible looking, run down, dreary coloured station wagons. I wonder why anyone would want to drive one, even if it is probably cheap.
In some areas I am remarkably (even ridiculously) observant, seeing all sorts of trivial details, but in others I seem to be blind. Specifically those concerning observations of people, of their characters, actions and appraising them. People always notice things I don't. Maybe it's because I am less critical, and more tolerant of perceived faults. Or my skill's simply not there :)
When it came to dismounting time, we found to our horror that of the 13 guard and fire piquet personnel supposed to be taking over us, 5 had taken MCs outside and only 1 standby had arrived. So after some hand wringing, the 4 fire piquet personnel stayed back to fill out the numbers while the 9 of us guards went home. Though they did leave only 2 hours later than us (11+am, versus our 9+am, though we're actually supposed to get out of camp by 8am!). But the duty officer did promise them compensation - off passes from camp on Monday, stretching as long as after lunch to 10pm.
After 4 guard duties in SMM, I conclude that, especially in SMM, guard duty serves no purpose but providing a way to punish erring (whether in reality or the perception of superiors) trainees and permstaff.
Quotes:
"Sergeant, I want to become a lifeguard but I cannot swim"
"A very good afternoon, gentlemen. [Trainees: Good afternoon Master] It's 'Good Morning'. I wanted to see how blur you all are. Indeed you all are very blur."
"[On a rainy day, in the training shed] Okay, no questions? Then just sit here and enjoy the rain."
"I want to become a lifeguard, it's fucking lobo. First, it's eight to five. Second, you sit in the chair and sleep all day. Wait for the kids to come and swim. Thirdly, you get to play with the speedboat."
"A man should be obsessed by sex (with)"
"All the gifted people have some problem"
"[On me] You have a photogenic memory (photographic)
"[Me: What's so good about prostitutes?] I think you need to see a doctor."
"[On SMM] All the bugs here are mutated."
"[Sign] Do you know that Logisticians embrace the SAF Core Values in their work..."
When I took a taxi back on Friday, the taxi driver charged me only $8 instead of $8.40 because he felt bad about taking a longer route. Nice guy.
Yong Chin pointed out the difference between a "night off" and a "night out" - you get to stay home overnight for the former. Oh well.
My brother-in-law, Mr Intelligent, has done it again. He's entered (or tried to - he was cussing so I wasn't clear on the details) a cashcard-only carpark.

"i was thinking of buying these pig ears for you (for yr inordinate love of pork and its haram qualities)... but i figured they wouldn't keep well. "
Aww.
And more ringing endorsements:
"i just read this phrase on someone whom i know's friend's friend's website and thought it was amusing.
'raffles guys' school'
woah. i just read gabriel's biography on his site, and he must be an extremely brave person, because if i'd led a life like that, i wouldn't paste it on the internet. "
Yeh maybe I'm an exhibitionist.
And I present the story of the RMUN logo, being bo liao (and very sad) in the extreme!
"I was heading the Administration Department of the Raffles Model United Nations Conference in 2001 and took it upon myself to make a new logo, because the old was very sucky. As was usual, I had very little time to do everything.
Original, terrible RMUN logo, used in 2000, 1999 and probably a few years before.
Logo I stole from the UN website
The world has been professionally deleted and the background filled with blue
I stole this from the RJ homepage.
And wallah, nice logo!

I have a craving for peaches! peaches! I'm in a peachy mood!
Going shopping after exams!!
I've been having nightmares. Pretty mundane ones- the ones I had before O's/A's were me failing O's/A's respectively (ny A's nightmares involved me attending physics remedial conducted by Mr. Raufie, which is, like, *so likely*). Anyway. Last last nite's one was that after i found out about ralph's condition, ian and bryan promptly went Missing in Action in ns. Or dead. Or something. And i had to hunt around the RJ staffroom (only it was renovated and very big/corporate chic/cool/stylish- white and blue hues, wide corridors, no cubicles/partitions, spiral staircases in the middle; not dingy/cramped) to get their contact numbers from teachers' desks, only dr. chan kept on bugging me about why i was suspiciously hanging around the staff room. I woke up terrified- about ian and bryan i mean, not about dr. chan.
Last nite's one was that i auditioned for RJC chorale- and got rejected! I became very angry with ken anderson (nb. no current association between chorale and toh ban sheng) and immediately started complaining to all the chorale members starting with waiyi! And i got so mad about it.
When i woke up i suddenly remembered that one year and a few months ago waiyi was pressing me to re-join chorale because they were short of guys and it was an syf year.

Methinks geps already tend to be socially inept to some degree ... but then again there's the tendency for the top 10 schools to be single sex (rvhs is the exception is it?)
Lack of influence of seniors? why? Seniors would rarely converse with juniors about *latent tendencies* (winces and washes his hands after typing)

Perhaps the "public expression of the New Independent Woman" is not what were were used to. Or rather, we don't think we were that, worldly, at that tender age (13-14).
From the same person who came up with the New Independent Woman thing: "my hypothesis is that putting people in single sex schools for an extended period of time turns them nuts. ". I concur, especially for GEPs. :)
Perhaps it's just internet literate, vocal geps? Maybe the internet lets them talk with like-minded people, which intensifies latent tendencies. And add to that the influence of their seniors. So each generation builds upon the last and becomes more and more angsty (It's more than that, but I lack a better word).
Tim thinks that it's going to collapse soon, and gives it a year and a half, but I'm not sure it will be that soon.
At least one of them was not in a dark brooding colour scheme!
Maybe my junior's insight sums it up best - "erm her blog is completely sex crazed
erm how did u get to know her?? she's nuts!" HAHA. [Disclaimer: I do not know this person]
Or, better yet, "pple are just reaching puberty earlier that's all... sec2 there were some of us who were kinda lidat liao wat"
Let's see who comes away offended :) Seeing as I did not refer to anyone in particular (then again, I don't even know them). Hmm.
On a lighter note,
"hahahaa... she looks pretty good for a gep u noe
i saw 2 fotos... both of the girls were pretty gd-looking wat..... so sad they're darn vulgar n polluted :p"
"anyway i just noticed the "clever" little bit of graphic editing on the rmun handbook. they put their hideous rj badge (which is, revolting as it is, the same motif used for ri - which i take in my foul mood as another sign of chauvinism) between the twin olive(?) leaf thingies that's usually around the globe that makes up the UN symbol. it wasn't even particularly well done. the rj badge is far more grainy than the leaves. hah! lousy HISSOC. "
Hey, I think I -did- that logo! *Grin* Well my graphics skills are not up to par, and my source material wasn't very high quality.

4. Only D is correct
5. All are correct
Meet up okay jane/sheila/crys/kai/gabriel? I hope i didn't miss anyone out. When are you all free?
And my pronunciation got corrected (twice; once i was wrong, once They were wrong)
First time-
Andrew: ... am i still an a-DO-lescent?
someone else: it's A-dolescent.
Second time-
Andrew : ...incidence of these would be quite scarce.
Tutor: What?
Andrew: .... Scarce. (rhymes with farce)
Tutor: Could you repeat yourself?
(someone else from the back): Scrce (rhyming with care)
Tutor: Oh....
(andrew fumes)
btw, i got "bard" too for the FF job class quiz
I went for my platoon chalet just now!
On the way there, I discovered to my horror that some guy in the MRT had as his ring tone Singapore's National Anthem.
At the chalet itself, it was a touch boring, but there were more interesting bits. A large proportion of people were topless, supposedly because it was very hot. Attendence seemed dismal, but in the end most turned up, just that they all came very late. And 4 people brought their girlfriends. Or, as someone speculated, they brought people and claimed that they were their girlfriends. Though most of them looked very lian (and maybe got their clothing from This "Lian" Fashion).
2 units away, first a woman and then her daughter were using some hair dryer like contraption to try to start their fire. Willie made some remark about little girls nowadays being too spoilt, haha.
Since we have quite a few smokers in our platoon, they were smoking all over the chalet. And cigarette ash got onto the food. Coupled with the overcooking... I don't want to know how carcinogenic that was. Maybe that was why my stomach felt funny after a while.
Me on Tiger Beer: It tastes like shit.
Jeremy: Fuck you lah.
Yes, I did imbibe alcohol, albeit only a few drops of Tiger Beer, Red Wine, Vodka and Martell each, if only to see if alcohol was really as disgusting as I remembered. The first 2 still suck, as I recall. And the last 2 are more horrible than I could have ever imagined. The vodka feels cold on the lips
They played the game that Kairen told me about from his days in 1SIR, the one where you take a cup of beer, place a piece of tissue over the rim, put a 10 cent coin in the middle and take turns to burn holes in the tissue with a lighted cigarette. And the one who makes the coin fall in gets to drink the mixture.
We got to taupok the sergeants on the chalet beds. Yeh. Rare opportunity.
Roy gave me, Khairuldin and Daniel a lift to Orchard. There was a sad episode where they 'checked out' this girl walking by the side of the road, when Roy slowed the car down and all but me craned their heads to look at the girl. So now I know how sad people in cars check girls out. Daniel rolled down the window and spat, and the spit landed on the back window. Yeech. Conversation along the way was, sadly, about things like their experiences in visiting high class prostitutes, where you have to pay for alcohol, and where one person spent $500 for some Vietnamese girl. Or something. And I learnt about 'Bapoks' (Transvestites), about their relative merits (they "give head" "better and faster" and let you fulfill Greek pederastic fantasies) and demerits (they are expensive and sometimes will lapse into their male voices). I'm just happy that I don't live a life where I come into regular, nay, any contact with this sort of stuff. I don't want to live in that world.
I don't see the big deal about driving lessons, and why everybody is taking them. Probably peer pressure.
I keep old movie ticket stubs, partly out of laziness to throw them away, but Tze Li does something better - he writes the names of the people he watched the movie with on the back. Now, why didn't I think of that?
Even after I've checked up the pronunciation, my sister and brother in law still are obstinate and insist that one of the correct pronunciations is wrong. How annoying. Grr.
I keep tripping over the wire charging my phone and it keeps flying onto the floor. I hope it doesn't get damaged. But then again, a Nokia phone -has- survived the 11 storey drop from my sister's window :)
More accolades: "Gabriel's Homepage damn farni. go visit. big big site. so what if he's not interested in cheem web design.. go for the content. he writes really well too, has a blog. i suggest you start with the homepage, and don't forget his apt RJC review. " Though I don't think I deserve the praise :)
Of all the disgusting things. Now we have a weblog with a layout based on. Sanitary Napkins. Please excuse me while I hit my forehead.
Something I forgot to put in my bookout post just now:
Just before booking out after guard duty, someone peed in the water bottle of someone whom most of the platoon dislikes. I feel quite bad, but I think I couldn't have done anything anyhow.
Cest magnifique, mais ce nest pas la guerre. Admirable, but not according to rule. The comment of Marshal Canrobert on the charge of the Light Brigade at Balaclava.

This sounds like a Kamal idea. I bet it is. It certainly looks like one.
Restored Post
Monday was another day of tests, so we just rotted in the stuffy and hot company auditorium. Quite a few of us got comfortable and went to sleep at the back.
I finally brought bak kwa into camp! Yeh.
World Cup season is here. Because we have no access to televisions, people are reduced to listening to the matches on the radio. Or crowding around the windows of the Mess and peering in. And soccer betting has started. It seems that many of my bunk mates are betting on football results and have been earning, from my buddy's measly $2 to Roy's $1000 (followed by $500 the next day). I do wonder if anyone loses money. It certainly doesn't seem so. Perhaps due to World Cup (and maybe betting) euphoria, we got to wake up half an hour later one morning and didn't have to do 5BX. Yeh.
The cookhouse always doesn't cook enough, and so they run out of dishes often. And when they -do- cook enough, the SFI people often refuse to give us more food, claiming that there are still people who haven't eaten. In the end, they often throw a lot away. We were quite upset at the measly (even for this place) portions on Monday, so we started helping ourselves to a fruit buffet from the fridge - Kiwi, Pineapple and Honeydew. To add to their list of evil deeds, they've locked the ice machine so we can't take ice anymore. Which is why I don't drink anything in the mornings nowadays.
He with the Killer 5BX (1 set consists of: Burpees - 10 counts of 10, 10 Go-up-halfway Situps, 10 pushups, 10 crunches, 10 spider pushups, 10 flutter kicks, 10 diamond pushups, 10 bicycle kicks ) finally joined us for our morning exercise. And after 1 set (we did 3 the first time and 3 and a bit more the second), he let us go for breakfast. Hehe.
One guy was bathing in front of the sinks in the toilet with the hose. And he had his shorts on. That's one step up from bathing in underwear!
1 of the Malay Sergeants told the Malays that if they ate from the Chinese food stall in the canteen, they'd sign extra guard duties. Ridiculous.
Those who had no leave left had leave deducted from next year's leave. Evil SAF!
New Town Secondary's Chinese name is "Guang1 Wei3". So it joins He2 Gu3 Zhong1 Xue2 in the league of schools whose names don't translate directly.
We had partner swapping on Wednesday - I poked and was poked by Yew Yew. And in the field in front of the lecture block too (which is actually cooler than the training shed). He is a joy to poke - his veins are very large and prominent! I finished my IV very quickly. On the other hand, he missed my vein. Looks like only my buddy is good enough to hit me :) And apparently said buddy's blood clots very quickly, so it's not just me. So both of us have complications that make it hard for people to hit us.
Zhang has an interview for the President's Scholarship! Woah.
Apparently Vitamin E can help get rid, or at least lighten, the stupid 16g scars. Hope is in sight! Current scar total: 4. At least 3 to go (during my course) and 13 during Reservist. Ugh.
I opened a Mobile E-Mart one night. And sold $7.50 worth of food! Though the bulk hasn't been paid to me. And it turns out I sold some items (like Almond Kit Kat) for a loss. Oh well.
The contagion of sore eyes (viral conjunctivitis in most of the cases methinks) has hit our camp. In one platoon, more than half were decimated by this scourge. Our dear CO has decreed that future cases of sore eyes will have to be referred to Maju Camp. And those infected do not get to rest at home, but are contained in quarantine in camp! Bah.
Zhang told some RI guy who went to RJ was told that I was from RJ. And on taking a closer look, he uttered thus, "Were you from RI?... Oh no, it's that Gabriel... How do you do IV now?". My infamy precedes me.
As we all know, SAF tests are impossible to fail. Except IPPT and SOC, that is. But I've recently been exposed to the next generation of SAF tests. They involve a group of people sitting around the tester and each being asked questions until he gets one correct.
Everything we have says "Property of SAF". I think if they could, they'd tattoo that on us too.
Someone liked Musharraf's face so much that he took the Economist out of my fieldpack when I was not in the company audit and ripped the front cover off. Grr.
I finally did prowling (with Zhang) during Guard Duty. I hate the half-sweating feeling. It's terribly sticky and neither here nor there. I got only 3 1/2 hrs sleep during my duty. And when I came back I promptly slept for 3 hours.
Just before booking out after guard duty, someone peed in the water bottle of someone whom most of the platoon dislikes. I feel quite bad, but I think I couldn't have done anything anyhow.

Skipped lunch, so i had a large gelati waffle cone (WHEEeee... if you've ever tried the Lygon st gelati you'll know why... it's blissful heavenly cloud-stuff) and went shopping- bought Charades with Audrey Hepburn! and Cary Grant, for $10.
I wanted to watch ET today but there was no time as I had to return in time to go for duty. So in the end I ended up watching Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron with Screwed Up Girl.
Interestingly, the horses did not speak English, but neighed and grunted all the way, except for intermittent narration/voiceovers by the protagonist. This was rather refreshing. Of course, it could also be that they wanted to save money :)
And there was an irritating song sung by a very airy guy, who turned out to by Bryan Adams, whom I've not heard around for a long long time. Which doesn't say much actually, since I don't listen to modern music. But the airiness. The airy singing. Oh, deliver us from the unbearable agony!
There's this shop in Suntec which specialises in antique guns, but they also have a smattering of nice swords and axes. They had a complete suit of armour (with sword) for $7,588. Not bad, though it's authenticity did look a bit suspect (even to my untrained eye, primarily due to a heart symbol egregiously located on the breastplate).
And I saw Shuyu in This "Lian" Fashion. She's highlighted her hair. Ooo.
On the MRT home, some guy started talking to me. He started suggesting I run some, and thought I was in Sec 3. He was very happy for some reason to find out I was a slave, and claimed that a local degree was better than an overseas degree because it was cheaper and the exams were easier. Or something. Turns out he was from the RI Class of 1952, and he spent one term in Hualalalala. Apparently RI boys were bad in Chinese last time. Some things don't change! Too bad I had to get off at my stop.
With the advent of EZ-Link, not only can we not pay an easy to remember, universal bus fare of 60 cents, we also don't get bus tickets, useful for scribbling things like my URL, anymore! Darn.

Esmond looks good with black hair, with his fair skin. Then again, today (rather yesterday) was the first time i ever saw him with black hair.
Should i call home? Parents should be back by now... then again they might worry why i'm still up (and i can't say i was studying... because i wasn't!). Then again they might not know the time difference.
(btw, the one in the middle of the movie poster has the same look that vampire cum preener has. And is white to boot. )
Anonymous comment: Wow... are you sure that they're guys? That one (the one on the centre) has such nice legs!!
Another: Of course lah... guys have nice legs.
Yet another: Thing is, he *shaved* his legs.
And as i elaborated to gabriel on saturday, I think i can prepare better pasta than the ormond kitchen staff - using a packet of Home Brand semolina spaghetti, a bottle of Five Brothers pasta primavera sauce, and a microwave that is. As i did for my Real dinner. If there's something i can't stand it's the weekly pasta nite on saturday (The only thing worse is when they decide to make a weekday dinner Pasta nite). But sunday brunch makes up for it (= Speaking of which, i should invite my friends down for the ormond sunday brunch, I hardly used my brunch card, and it's still got, like 10 brunches left on it for this semester. Ah- the sunday during exams .... or maybe the sunday after! Then we can go shopping after that! ( = *wheeee*
I like my current hair-length. It's at a manageable, appropriately-fluffy state (and it still fits under a cap, like before on bad-hair-day-Friday) but it's troublesome to make it look neat. Now at least.

Was just showing the rest of the pple in the computer lab how to open netscape. IT people are trying to install Windows 2000 on all the computers, and format them, and in the process, the Start menu on all computers was fiddled with. Now only MSIE, accessories, command prompt are available. I opened netscape directly by running the executable file in c:\program files\netscape\communicator\program\
After Grease OST... was playing my Wow cds again... sometimes i wonder what sally thinks of this guy who at one *down* stage, kept on playing the jars of clay/rebecca st. james' songs in his collection (6 in total); and spent the whole weekend listening to the Grease soundtrack (i think i can practically write out an arrangement for the theme song "Grease")
There's a feedback section on the Topclass website for students in the medical, dentistry and health sciences faculty. I felt like requesting the lecturers and faculty staff to refrain from referring to medical/dental students as "the brightest we have in this university"; to avoid swollen heads.

This is disgusting. Screwed Up Girl took a personality test (there must be 50 - no kidding - cluttering her weblog by now). A Diablo 2 personality test. And she's never even played that game. !@#$%^&*()
I've just finished playing Final Fantasy X: International, and I can truly say that it has one of the most touching endings I have ever, ever seen. It's something I'm going to remember for a long, long time. If you haven't played it, maybe you should be giving some thought (serious thoughts, at that) at finding some way of playing Final Fantasy X. The story itself is worth it.
Of course, if you play the International / American version, you're going to have to suffer through the horrible, horrible Tidus / Yuna voiceovers. There was this one scene which almost made me want to break down and cry, and it wasn't because it touched my heart. Urrrrk. Still, the story's worth it. Then, after you complete the game, watch the "Another Ending" for a wonderfully optimistic "I'll find my own tomorrow" message from Yuna herself. Of course, you want to see Rikku again as well. (At least, I did.)
Need I mention the fact that I'm a sucker for such endings? They always get me. Every time. Then there's that wonderful vocal track, Suteki da ne (It's Wonderful). And those beautifully rendered environments. And those lifelike motion captured character animations. And the improved Sphere Grid system.
Go play it.
This is my story...
Because large groups always eat at relatively cheap places, we ate at Burger King, and 4 of them King Sized (one of the myriad of suggestions I made end 1998 or so, earning $25 in vouchers for my effort) their meals - and managed to finish everything! I remember the time or two I tried that option, I felt totally sick even without finishing everything on the tray. Oh well. No wonder they reduced the price of King Sizing to 30 cents. They now have Prawn Cutlets. Nice, but too little is given for the $2.90 price.
Then after that we went to watch Panic Room. Good movie, and interesting camera techniques, though I think there are way too many shots showing Jodie Foster's cleavage.
Apparently the USSR was not a party to international copyright laws, so the Ak-47 Rifle was shamelessly pirated. Aww.
In Tiong Bahru Plaza, beside the U2, there is a shop called U2too. Its range of merchandise doesn't seem to be drastically different from U2. Hmm.
Bought 4 pairs of shorts for homewear. Yeh.
Restored Post
2 of our sergeants seem to have been getting stricter recently. One uber relaxed one, who seems to smile when giving drill commands and whom everybody but Roy and me think looks like Brain from Pinky and the Brain, but we two think looks like Pinky, has become ever so subtly more strict - he was the one who made us do 6 rounds around the parade square last week when previously, we'd not even run round the parade square in the mornings, and he's been knocking people down more. Which may be why people have become less taken to singing the Pinky And The Brain theme when he approaches. The other is the previously mentioned "garang" sergeant, whose professed philosophy of "whack hard, give lots of welfare" has become more evident recently (He actually promised us many nights off if we performed well, but so far it seems nights off are all given in company level, so). He's become a lot more particular about us shouting loudly, tightening our boot laces, locking our arms when marching and doing drills properly recently, and on tuesday and wednesday our reward for going to the parade square earlier than other platoons was to be knocked down (as a "lesson" in how to lock our arms when marching). We are also now supposed to shout when talking to him, even one on one, but thankfully that has lapsed somewhat. I reiterate my stand that shouting damages the voice, so making us shout is actually worse as eventually we will not even be able to attain the pre-injury level!
Whenever we are given physical punishment, the others dismiss it as "nothing". I think if the Army now is like cutting off one arm as opposed to the past's two, and Gryphon Company was cutting off one hand, SMM is like cutting off one finger! :) Though the bottoms of my palms keep getting sore. And I think my hands are becoming rougher by the week. Oh well.
Someone went to stick a cute cartoon of a pig's head on the ice machine in the cookhouse. Hehe.
When it comes to the treatment of insects and other monsters, I think much of my platoon is rather hypocritical. When I kill giant ants or giant spiders, people scold me and moan about my cruelty - "What did the spider do to you?". However, when other people use lighters to burn them (sometimes to a crisp), trap ants and spiders in syringes and put them in a near vacuum for a periods of time and make them fight deathmatches with other insects, no one utters a word (at least not that I've heard). What they do either kills the insects painfully (if they -can- feel pain) or leaves them permanently damaged, while what I do gives them a quick clean death such that they won't come to the bunk to terrorise us.
Jeremy was bored, so he was drawing Lord of the Ring parallels. He claimed that Steven looked like Saruman, I looked like Bilbo (?!) and he himself looked like Sauron. Right.
Last week, we saw a new face walking around camp observing us (one day, she was wearing a witty shirt which said: "Junkies University. Brain cells may come and go, but fat cells live forever!"), and of course, the others were evaluating her (Incidentally, the evaluation was 'not bad'). This week, she got her No 4. She'll probably be the newest female instructor. But she doesn't have the army look. She has slightly dyed hair (isn't that disallowed) and looks like she came from the Poly. Run while you can!
Tuesday night was OC night! So we got to dress guys up as girls. Most of them weren't very convincing, but some were quite good. For some reason, the 'cheap slut' look was in, so most had all manner of tasteless clothing. And many of them didn't shave! Ugh. Folie, our section's Miss SMM, was quite pretty in his outfit. Only thing was that he didn't have a wig. Roe, Section 9's Miss SMM candidate, on the other hand, had this gigantic pink wig and a matching pink boa. While waiting for the results, one of the more convincing "girls" actually did some bodybuilding poses. And then proceeded to wipe "her" sweat with "her" left breast (which seemed to be triangular bandages).
For OC night, someone managed to arrange for 3 real girls to come down, all in matching pink tanks and black hot pants. 2 of them joined the sergeant many people always make fun of for the opening dance (He can dance quite well actually). Of course, they were being evaluated while they were there - "Her butt and breasts are very big... They have the figure. Large hourglass figure... Enormous, you know... Usually, girls like that, [are] very fat... [They aren't] But they have the shape." Sigh. But I do wonder where they got them from.
In the end, my fears were not entirely founded. Our platoon was the only one which did a sketch on army life per se (With Jeremy doing a most excellent impersonation of his namesake). One did one where their instructors had a reunion 20 years down the line, another did a terribly boring and draggy news bulletin and the last a "SMM radio show".
Starved for news, I did what I would not normally do - I read the New Paper, since none other was available. Apparently some woman was sentenced to death by stoning in Pakistan for having sex outside marriage - she'd been raped. But then, since there weren't 4 reputable muslim males who'd testify to having seen the rape, the rapist couldn't be convicted. And her allegation of rape was taken as a confession that she'd sex outside marriage. But then, if 4 muslim males has witnessed the rape but hadn't done anything, then they wouldn't be very reputable, would they? The problems with basing law on the letter, and not the spirit (and a healthy dose of common sense) of the [1300 years old] holy books.
Also in the New Paper was a good quote from someone - "In Democracy, the people place limits on the government, not the other way around". Or something. That was in relation to the rubbish about out of bound markers. I think the article on religion and moral panics was really quite good, though of course some would decry it as the product of ivory towered academics' idealism. They do err too much on the side of caution over here (See? I see not some more sinister intent). Now, what's politics doing in a bookout post? :)
Our catheterisation practice amused most. For some reason, they liked to play with the model penis (not that I didn't poke someone with it once though). For the demonstration, Folie had to put the model in his pants. Oh well. Some fuss was made about female sensibilities - how come they're so privileged? Tis unfair. I also want to be protected from the sight of [mostly Malay] male genitalia in the bunk!
I saw my first private first class! Some reservist guy.
On Wednesday, we were going to have a fantastically early night off - we were going to be able to book out as early as 5:40pm. However, we were delayed by 1 1/2 hrs in the end because someone's cupboard was smashed and his handphone was stolen. So we were searched, and then had to strip to our underwear. Well actually if we'd been a touch earlier we would've escaped - we were the first platoon at the guard room and the first row was almost out of the gate when we were called back. Pity that Simon chose to mumble in response to our sergeant, so he went into the guard room to sulk for 2-3 mins.
Yew Yew bought 3 extra sets of uniforms with his credit, bringing the total to 8 sets. Wah. I actually have an evil plot for using up the $226 of credit we get every year - buy 500 tins of Kiwi and resell it on the black market.
We were supposed to go to a "Service Quality Centre" for 2 days to train our customer service skills. Unfortunately, they cancelled it and we're being forced to take block leave next friday and saturday. So I'll only have 7 days left till december! Stupid SAF. "You can only take leave when the SAF wants you to" - A sergeant in BMT. I think I can kiss the thought of overseas trips goodbye till 12 June 2004. They could actually give us an "off" (meaning we've to come back anytime they call us, but our anemic 14 days of annual leave won't be burned) but they were too stingy. Oh, well actually I've guard duty on Friday. I wonder how that'll work out.
I think I'm losing touch with the world, especially with Singapore, because we don't get newspapers. And merely reading one magazine a week is not enough. It'll have to do, I guess...
We have to pass 10 IVs to pass out, but from what people tell me of their IV experiences, it seems SAF medics aren't very skilled. When Kairen was IVed (for a fever), the medic hit a valve once and missed the vein the second time but pumped the saline in anyway, causing an oedema (a large bulge under the skin - thank Andrew G for providing the term). When Royston got hit recently (also for a fever, and a 37.6 degrees one too), the medic also missed the first time and so the senior medic had to take over. And he felt more tired and lethargic after his IV and his fever got worse, making him miss our section outing to Cineleisure. Oh well. Mayhap they give the lousy medics to those whom they think are trying to skive (low fevers, presumably). Actually I hear that besides unnecessary IVs, some medical officers give more punishments to those they think are trying to skive - one medical officer at Maju used to order the medics to stick their gloved (but unlubricated!) fingers up the rectums of patients reporting sick for diarrhea because he thought all 'diarrhea' cases were fake.
On Friday night, I was bored, so I finally sucuumbed to blandishments and ran 2 rounds around SMM with Roe and Sargunan. When I returned to the bunk, everyone was very surprised, happy and shocked. And Kenneth asked me for 4D numbers. Gah.
Simon calls me "Englishman", and indeed as in BMT I think I am the one whose English is the best in the platoon, though my standard has dropped somewhat. However, even Steven, with his degree from Murdoch University in Australia (and who boasts of having had to plough through texts so arcane that even his father, a University Lecturer, cannot comprehend them) still gets puzzled by the words I use and my sentence structure. Oh well. Some accuse me of using bombastic words, but they seem perfectly normal to me. But then, that was the impression I had of the denizens of vis-a-vis (the Yahoo Groups Group), when I first joined them on it.
The so-called Smoking Hut in the camp looks more like a Smoking Prison to me. It even has bars - the walls reach partway up to the ceiling, and the rest of the distance is covered by grilles.
We had Casualty Evacuation in Built Up Areas (CEBUA) on Saturday in Sungei Gudong (which is so expansive, it looks like Malaysia - with so much land given to the SAF, no wonder we're running out of space in Singapore!). It's actually supposed to be a full day event, but they wanted to be cheapskate and so squeezed it into Saturday's schedule. In the end, 1 1/2 hrs of bookout time was eaten up.
I saw a tin of Soya Oil (not palm!) in the kitchen of the cookhouse. Wow. I wonder if they use it all the time, or if it was just for show.

Actually, the pose from Episode II is reversed from that of Episode V; the
droids are on the opposite side. But that's neat and twisted. ;) Also, Episode
II is the first to have the camera tilt *up* after the opening crawl; all of the
others tilt down to the action.
And for those who remember the girl with the braces in Episode I, that's Lucas's
elder daughter; she's the pudgy Twi'lek in the club. Also appearing in that
scene are Anthony Daniels and Ahmed Best (I've yet to see them myself, or I'd be
more specific).
Happy hunting ;)

It was 8 instead of 6......and yes its the republic symbol, and yes Empy adapted
it for his new order, but its nothing new, thats been the symbol of the old
republic all along :)

Ok, being the pilot princess, I've done some investigating into the true
designation of those Star Destroyer style ships seen at the end of Ep II, and am
pretty certain I've found the answer.
They definitely look 'Star Destroyer' type, but I couldn't find any 'SD' pics
that matched. Their definitely not Imperial Class (1 or 2), nor are they Victory
Class. I was beginning to think I'd been finally stumped.
Then, while checking other capital pics, I spotted the Interdictor. It was
almost an exact match
(http://galactic-voyage.com/Dark%20Side-Capital%20Ships-Interdictor%20Cruiser.ht
m), save for the globes containing the gravity well projectors. I was pretty
certain I'd found the ship, but it was an Interdictor, not a warship.
So, I started to dig further, getting info on the Interdictor class. I
discovered (from SWRPG d20: Starships of the Galacy), that the Immobiliser 408
was most successful Interdictor ship design, and that the Interdictor 408 was
built by Sienar Fleet Systems onto the heavy cruiser hull of a 'Vindicator'
class Star Destroyer.
The original, standard Vindicators were armed with a typical mox of tractor
beams, ion cannons and turbolasers, making them effective heavy cruisers. These
ships were extensively used by the early Empire, and even later when full Star
Destroyer squadrons were not available and lighter ships would not suffice. Most
were specifically designed to function without support craft and carry up to a
full wing of fighters.
As a historical note, the first Vindicator class cruiser that wasn't eventually
converted to act as an Interdictor was 'Savrip', which patrolled Mid Rim worlds
during the height of the Empire. 'Savrip' was eventually captured by Alliance
Commandos and renamed 'Molator'. The ship then served as an armed diplomatic
vessel for the Rebel Alliance, flying from planet to planet in the Outer Rim
while attempting to find support for the Rebellion.
Other SW Geeks, beat that =)

Yes yes, flame to hell on why I'm wrong and I'm a bad person and have no
morals...but did anyone else feel the Yoda fight scene really wasn't all that?
It got me going for a second until I realised all he was doing was spinning
around and looking nifty, without actually thinking about disabling or disarming
his opponent. I mean hell, did Count Dookie (from Gummi Bears) just say, "Gee,
guess I'll watch him spin and make some inadequate blocks because I know he
won't actually think about disarming or disabling me in any way." I know Jedi
are pansies, but jesus. The fight scene felt the same as the fights in LotR,
but LotR had the atmosphere, scary-looking people, and proper clashes to make it
work.

I agree to some extent, because it was a lot less cool-looking the second time I
saw it (as opposed to the first time when it was a surprise and people were
cheering in the theater). But come on, give Yoda a break...
When 900 years old you reach, fight as well you will not, hmm? ;)

Since I knew I had seen the information before, I did a little research today
and found the following:
==========================================================
Acclamator Class Trans-Galactic Military Transport
(this is the ship referred to, but unidentified in spoilers 200)
Manufacturer: Rothana Heavy Engineering (subsidiary of KDY)
In addition to its crew, the ship can carry 16,000 clone troopers and their
support faculties and personnel- plus 80 gunships, 320 speeder bikes, 48 AT-TE's
(All Terrain Tactical Enforcer), and 36 artillery pieces.
==========================================================
Some extras for your personal enjoyment:
The clone trooper gunships seen on Geonosis:
LAAT/i (Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry) Repulsorlift Gunship
Manufacturer: Rothana Heavy Engineering (subsidiary of KDY)
Crew: 1 pilot/gunner, 2 aux turret gunners
Cargo: 30 clone troopers and 1 IM-6 Battlefield Medical Droid
OR 4 speeder bikes
Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter:
Delta-7 Aethersprite Light Interceptor
Manufacturer: Kuat Systems Engineering (subsidiary of KDY)
armed with 2 dual laser cannons
The hyperdrive ring is seperate from the fighter and I didn't bother to write
its info down.
The symbol on Obi-Wan's fighter:
A disc with 8 spokes- the icon comes from the Bendu Monks' study of numerology-
the number 9 (the disc plus the spokes) is symbolic of the "beneficient
presence of the Force in a unitary galaxy."
Also of note- the symbol Palpatine chose for the Empire is a defamation of the
above icon- two of the spokes are removed.

Also rumors about everyone's favorite Gungan JAR JAR showing up

After all, if all of these stories were written before the release
of A New Hope, why the need for changes? Isn't Georgie omniscent?

Did some studying .... Got this weird niggling at the back of my mind for the last few days- i remembered sending an email to ralph to find out how things were going, sometime around the time my mum received the call from his officer. Finally got around to digging up my Yahoo! outbox and found i sent it on sunday the 12 of May. Followed by an email replying joel, and the next one was dated tuesday 14 may- the email i sent out to my class with his ward no. and details asking them to visit him.
Which means the day i emailed him was the very same day he was admitted to changi general hospital.
*Fumes* *whines* *buries face*
It's been 3 weeks already... and the *doctors don't know very much abt what he's got ... 3 whole weeks... God, please heal him ....
(From THIS is TRUE for 26 May:)
TALKIE TOASTER: Residents in Hooke, Dorset, England, were a bit shocked when toasters and other appliances began talking. In Russian. "It's unnerving," says John Dalton, chair of the Hooke Parish Council. "Normally it just makes toast." The problem has been traced to a high- power BBC radio station a mile outside town. The station's spokesman notes that "two different types of metal next to each other can pick up a radio signal. The two bits of metal act as a very basic diode and turn the signal into sound." He promises technicians will help homeowners clear up the interference, but first "I'd love to hear the toaster." (PA) ...Maybe later -- it just left on a world tour.
My BMT section's gonna meet again later. I hope at least half of us will turn up this time!

under the excuse
a) i needed to find out if i had to bring my sleeping bag back to singapore for it (turns out i do, unless i bring something equivalent along)
b) i needed to find out how to get there. Turns out kuala trengganu is quite quite far away... east of penang or thereabouts. Might be taking a bus into johor, and taking an internal flight from senai or something like that. Hmm.... bus to johor, teksi to senai airport, internal flight to kuala trengganu airport, teksi to SEATRU centre in the universiti kolej (it looks quite nearby on the map-with-no-scale)... arriving at 8.30am. Hrmm.. which is quite early, i'll have to set off at, like,
Oh no!! the only flight to kuala trengganu arriving in the morning of 29 june before 8.30 am is a subang (KL) flight to kuala trengganu, 7.30am to 8.15am!!! How am i going to be at subang at 7.30am?? Hm... bus into JB/subang airport...?
Don't really to inconvenience parents or relatives to drive me in .
and Jitterbugs- http://www.swingapore.com/ and the ymca website for their june/july classes. I even went to the nature society (singapore)'s page to look at their activities in that time.
and thinking abt holiday plans.
Have nothing to look forward to today except for
a) finishing today's quota of studies
b) student service. Not actually looking forward to it - 2hours of Student service is such a waste of time... esp in exam periods!!! I feel like skipping it and paying the $24 fine; i earned that in my paid student service last week already. But i'm already planning to skip the one on the 15th of june, after my last paper (going on shopping trip with jiaming and the rest to chadstone!!)
Okay okay... i'll go back to studying ....

because i thought this
picture was pretty, laura of mewing.net told me this: "you enjoy sitcoms,
popcorn, horses, and perhaps surfboarding. you lost your virginity either very early (under the age of eleven)
or very late (over the age of thirty). you take politics and religion very seriously, and when you were a kid,
you had a penchant for getting lost in shopping malls and/or amusement parks. your favorite color is most
likely blue or green, and you are terrified of spiders." whatever will
laura tell you??
Editorial
You know there's nothing quite like the stranglehold of the unilinear narrative when it takes thirty-odd years before anyone publishes a photo of our country's founding father looking furtive. Skyscrapers are usually stronger than history and horizons. The last time I saw a proper horizon here was at Lim Chu Kang cemetery during Qing Ming. When anything is designated as an Enhancement Project start worrying. Or in other words, whenever people see photos of places here that haven't been touched yet, they say it looks like another country.

I don't like the second-wrule-dot-com. The advertisements, I mean. The last time i was back in singapore, i saw a poster outside the National library (desecration~!) advertising the website; it had a Ernie and Bert on it- subverting sesame street! (And i don't like "Bert is evil" websites either.)

"Grease (is the word)"- BeeGees, Grease OST
I solve my problems and I see the light
We gotta plug and think, we gotta feed it right
There ain't no danger we can go to far
We start believing now but we can be what we are
Grease is the word
They think our love is just a growing pain
Why don't they understand, It's just a crying shame
Their lips are lying only real is real
We start to find out now we got to be what we be
Grease is the word
It's got groove it's got meaning
Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion
Grease is the way we are feeling
We take the pressure and we throw away
Conventionality belongs to yesterday
There is a chance that we can make it so far
We start believing now but we can be who we are

"I hate how everyone has to be shallow And deep- about anything and everything. And my life is mine- think very carefully before you tell me how to run it.
- quoteworthy bit from andrew.
sheila and i were just squealing over his best-girlfriend-potential or s.o. quotient - this guy plays with his hair, is emotionally expressive, doesn't follow sports and likes to gossip! best of all, he resembles paddington! he's the dream s.n.a.g. (as compared to the knuckle-scraping-ground-chauvanist that is chan kairen;) we all want! quick, someone snap him up!:)"
Oh please do leave a multitude of comments, Melbourne rockers!
An interesting game concept: Auto playing RPGs!
Progress Quest
"Progress Quest is a next generation computer role-playing game. Gamers who have played modern online role-playing games, or almost any computer role-playing game, or who have at any time installed or upgraded their operating system, will find themselves incredibly comfortable with Progress Quest's very familiar gameplay. Progress Quest follows reverently in the footsteps of recent smash hit online worlds, but is careful to streamline the more tedious aspects of those offerings. Players will still have the satisfaction of building their character from a ninety-pound level 1 teenager, to an incredibly puissant, magically imbued warrior, well able to snuff out the lives of a barnload of bugbears without need of so much as a lunch break. Yet, gone are the tedious micromanagement and other frustrations common to that older generation of RPG's...
Progress Quest belongs to a new breed of "fire and forget" RPG's. There is no need to interact with Progress Quest at all; it will make progress with you or without you."

Mmm. Just had a Cadbury's Creme Egg. I last had one in March 2001 in London. They're nice - "milk chocolate with soft fondant centre". My sister and brother in law, both sugar haters, however, profess to find it disgusting.
It's $4.95 for a pack of 3 though. Compared to 30p for one in the Tube stations... Oh well.
