Variety on X - "Danny Boyle would not  direct "Slumdog Millionaire" today because of "cultural appropriation" and "I’d be looking for a young Indian filmmaker to shoot it."  “We wouldn’t be able to make that now. And that’s how it should be. It’s time to reflect on all that. We have to look at the cultural baggage we carry and the mark that we’ve left on the world... At the time it felt radical. We made the decision that only a handful of us would go to Mumbai. We’d work with a big Indian crew and try to make a film within the culture. But you’re still an outsider. It’s still a flawed method. That kind of cultural appropriation might be sanctioned at certain times. But at other times it cannot be. I mean, I’m proud of the film, but you wouldn’t even contemplate doing something like that today. It wouldn’t even get financed. Even if I was involved, I’d be looking for a young Indian filmmaker to shoot it.”  Read more here:"
The Little Platoon on X - "Mr Boyle is, of course, free to donate all his royalties to Indian film schools and remove his name from the credits in any re-release, or publicly petition studios and streaming services not to play the movie ever again.   While we're at it, he's not Scottish, so he should probably apologise for Trainspotting. Nor is he American or Thai, so there goes The Beach. He wasn't born in London, so he had no business shooting 28 Days later there. Being entirely unrelated to Steve Jobs, I don't know why he made a movie about him.  And if we really want to press the point, the nation of India shouldn't be allowed to play cricket, much less win at it. That's culturally insensitive.  (The culture war should not end until people feel utterly ashamed and embarrassed saying shite like this in public. Unconditional surrender.)"

Raj Singh Bhandall: Beyond Labels – Honoring the True Diversity of Canadians with Precise Language - "  I write to you on behalf of Wanjara Nomad Collections and countless Canadians who, over generations, have sought belonging, not erasure, within this rich tapestry we call Canada. And yet, we are confronted with the continued use of the term South Asian in City initiatives, including the recent “South Asian Canadian Discrimination Survey” and its anti-racism efforts. This term, far from fostering inclusivity, is an archaic, imprecise, and colonial construct that flattens the unique identities it purports to represent. In no uncertain terms, South Asian is a racist, reductive, and repressive label—a lingering echo from a past that Canada should resolutely leave behind.  This term does not merely lack nuance; it embodies a subtle violence—a quiet force that simplifies complex identities into a single, faceless mass. Using such terminology encourages what can only be described as linguistic Stockholm syndrome, wherein communities, in a bid to belong, internalize labels that strip them of individuality. Under the guise of convenience, South Asian forges a linguistic cage, forcing communities from diverse cultural backgrounds into a homogenized identity that disregards their nuanced histories, languages, and cultures. Each time South Asian is invoked, vibrant identities are dulled, reducing the cultural legacies of people from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and beyond to an indistinct blur... I must point out a critical flaw in the “South Asian Canadian Discrimination Survey.” For individuals who identify as Pakistani Canadian, Afghani Canadian, Sri Lankan Canadian, or any other specific cultural background, the survey’s options are inherently exclusionary. I do not identify as “South Asian.”"
Inclusive labels are structural violence
The Khalistanis don't identify as Indian, so good luck

Jeremy Stamper @jeremymstamper: "Corey Booker destroyed racists with one simple chart. Most criminals in the United States are (wait for it) white.
The replies to Sen. Booker are filled with people pushing Per Capita Theory."
Per capita is important when it pushes the left wing agenda, like climate change (but only for big countries) or black vs white people shot by police

Is Brazil the only Latin American country where being openly racist is not socially acceptable? : r/asklatinamerica - "Regarding Indigenous peoples, I somewhat subscribe to the idea that allowing criminalization and limiting access to the common goods of a just society is effectively contributing to the genocide of a people. I would say that there is indeed an ongoing genocide in Brazil right now, if my point of view can be applied to this context. As for the situation in Argentina, they tried to promote miscegenation, but it didn’t really work because the Spanish were more resistant to it than the Portuguese."
"You’re cheapening the word genocide. Just call it it for what it is: discrimination or oppression"
Genocide is anything left wingers don't like

Double Talk Detected: Greenblatt’s ADL Slams Anti-Mixing As Hate While Ignoring His Intermarriage Bias - "Anti-Defamation League (ADL) CEO and National Director Jonathan Greenblatt is facing criticism after voicing concerns about Jewish intermarriage while leading an organization that classifies opposition to race mixing as a hate symbol."

Black people have highest rate of STIs in Britain. Not enough is being done to change that. - "higher rates of poverty and poor health literacy among marginalised communities are all linked with higher STI rates, according to a 2016 study, which found that behavioural and contextual factors are likely to be contributing.  Having sexual partnerships overlapping in time -  especially when condoms are not used - is also higher among Black Caribbean people than other ethnic groups, it has been found. Moreover, experiences of racism among Black people can fuel a reluctance to engage with sexual health services and test frequently, according to HIV activist Susan Cole-Haley."
If black people have unprotected sex and get an STI, it's the government's fault. Of course, grievance mongering leads to less trust in the health system and less condom use, so it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Perfect!

Feds violate official Canada flag guidelines with rainbow Pride post - "The Canadian government faced online backlash after posting an image of the Canadian flag modified in Pride colours, triggering a community note that pointed out the image violated official flag guidelines.  The government of Canada’s official X page posted an image on Sunday with a Canadian flag in Pride colours... the Government of Canada’s own website states the national flag “should not be written on or marked in any way, nor be covered by other objects.”  The rules also state that the Canadian flag “must not be modified.”"

Putting trigger warnings on 1984 is the most 1984 thing - "“Orwell will be turning in his grave,” read one of the online comments posted in response to yesterday’s piece about 1984 getting a trigger warning. “Turning”? I think it’s more likely he’ll be laughing.  What, after all, could be more of a validation, a rubber-stamping, and an “I told you so” – delivered through a megaphone – than a thoughtcrime conviction for a futuristic cautionary tale… about thoughtcrimes, published 76 years ago?  In the introductory essay featured in the new 75th anniversary edition, US novelist Dolen Perkins-Valdez describes the book’s protagonist, Winston Smith, as “problematic”. So much so that it may once have led to her abandoning the book, she admits. Warning modern readers that they may find his views on women “despicable”, she writes: “For example, we learn of him, ‘He disliked nearly all women, and especially the young and pretty ones.’” Whoa, wait a minute, Orwell. There’s so much to unpack here. First, that with everything currently going on in the world – you know, the rise of modern totalitarianism, technology spying on us and all that – Winston Smith’s view of women should be the main area of focus. Second, that word “problematic”, which almost always precedes something cretinous, but in this context was genuinely baffling.  Name one successful novel, TV show or film that doesn’t feature a “problematic” character, and I will show you something I have no interest in reading or watching. Do you know anybody who enjoys reading about nice, blameless people going about their nice, blameless lives? I don’t... Someone who has been eloquent on this subject is the British Museum’s brilliant new director, Nicholas Cullinan. Asked recently whether he agreed with the idea of trigger warnings and apologies on museum labels, Cullinan replied: “Labels should be accurate, not partisan or political or conforming to a contemporary fad.”  For me, the most extraordinary aspect of trigger warnings has always been their pomposity: the implicit conviction that in 2025, our view is not only more enlightened than any view that came before, but the final word on the subject. Unlike Orwell’s, I suspect that those words will look embarrassingly outdated in just a couple of years."

'I just want to bring love and peace to the public': 'Humiliated' Christian busker wrongly told by police that she's 'not allowed' to sing religious songs accuses 'bullying' cop of breaching human rights - and vows 'I'll continue to do what I do' - "A Christian singer has revealed she felt 'humiliated', 'sad' and 'bullied' after a special constable wrongly said she could not 'sing church songs outside of church grounds'.  Harmonie London, 20, also accused Metropolitan Police volunteer officer Maya Hadzhipetkova of breaching her human right to freedom of expression and religion.  In an exclusive interview with MailOnline today, Harmonie told how the officer had threatened to seize her keyboard and speakers if she did not stop singing - having already performed Amazing Grace and the contemporary song Goodness of God.  It comes as Scotland Yard continues to investigate Ms Hadzhipetkova and review body-worn footage of the shocking incident on Oxford Street in Central London last Sunday. The Met has claimed the row was over a 'specific bylaw related to busking' - while Harmonie argues that she was not 'busking', but instead 'sharing the gospel'.  After telling the singer she could not perform, Ms Hadzhipetkova stuck her tongue out at the camera. Her actions drew widespread condemnation - including from ex-Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe who said 'some people have got a problem in this country with Christianity which they don't appear to have with other faiths'. There are no laws against singing on pavements, Christian or otherwise - only council bylaws relating to having a busking licence and not blocking roads - and Harmonie said the incident breached her article nine rights to freedom of religion... Among those hitting out at the video was former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe, who called for the officer to be 'struck off from the voluntary force'.  She told GB News: 'She really has got the law completely wrong and she was obviously enjoying herself rather too much, trying to boss this woman around.  'And there is no basis at all for saying you can't sing. I could walk down the street singing Onward Christian Soldiers and I would be committing no offence at all.' Speaking to Premier Christian Radio's Inspirational Breakfast today, Ms Widdecombe was asked to confirm there is no law forbidding Christian songs being sung outside church grounds.  She said: 'No, absolutely not. No. If there were, the Salvation Army wouldn't be able to perform in the street. No, of course not.'"

Co-op sacked worker for making Michael Jackson ‘hee-hee’ noises - "A warehouse worker sacked after being accused of impersonating Michael Jackson in front of a black colleague was unfairly dismissed, an employment tribunal has found.  Lucasz Zawadzki made high-pitched “hee-hee” noises, mimicking the late pop star, according to the co-worker.   He was also accused of making monkey noises and being racist at the Co-op warehouse where the pair worked, the tribunal in Manchester was told.  Mr Zawadzki admitted making “embarrassing and juvenile” noises in the workplace, but said they were not racist.  The Co-operative Group was ordered to pay Mr Zawadzki more than £10,000 in compensation after Employment Judge Carol Porter found he had been unfairly dismissed."

A lot of left wingers just blankly refuse to believe all the crazy things happening, even when you show them proof. The copes are varied

City of Huntington, WV | Facebook - "At City Hall, we proudly raise the flags of the United States of America, the State of West Virginia, and the City of Huntington. These symbols represent the enduring values of freedom, opportunity, and togetherness that define our community and unite all who call Huntington home. In our effort to serve every resident equitably and align with federal and state guidelines, we have chosen to display only these official flags at this time. This decision reflects our commitment to maintaining a welcoming public space where every individual is respected and represented under the shared flags of our nation, state, and city. Huntington is, and will continue to be, a city where every person is valued, protected, and treated fairly. By focusing on the symbols that connect us, we reaffirm our dedication to unity, inclusion, and the common good."
Of course, left wingers were very upset at the lack of allegiance to the Regime

BBC Verify can’t be trusted to tell the true facts – and this trans row proves it - "Essex County Council, we learnt this week, has offered “support” to staff who feel “unsettled” by the sight of British flags. The council’s “Children & Families Senior Leadership Team” said it was “aware of the increasing visibility of St George’s and Union Jack flags displayed on road signs, bridges and trees in parts of Essex”, and urged staff to “reach out” if it causes them “feelings of discomfort”.  I for one find this baffling. But not just because no sane person should feel traumatised by the sight of their own country’s flag. It’s also because the council itself flies the St George’s and Union flags from its HQ. So do the staff feel “unsettled” every time they arrive at work? Do they stagger to their desks each morning and then burst into tears, horrified that their own employer would subject them to this shocking emotional cruelty?  Surely not. Mind you, it might help to explain something. At the end of the pandemic, in 2021, Essex County Council said it expected three quarters of its 7,700 staff to continue working from home. Maybe this was nothing to do with a desire for greater “work-life balance”. The staff just couldn’t bear to return to the office, for fear of seeing those horrible British flags again.  While we’re on the subject, there’s something else I’d be fascinated to know. Do staff who get upset by the sight of our country’s flags get equally upset by the sight of other countries’ flags? I’m going to guess not. Because last year it was revealed that many councils now permit staff to do their work from exotic locations overseas. From 2021-23, for example, Enfield Council allowed 24 staff to “work in a hybrid form from abroad” in countries including Spain, Greece and Jamaica.  The moment the staff arrived in these countries, they will inevitably have been confronted by the sight of their national flags. I’m surprised they didn’t gasp in horror, snatch up their luggage and fly straight back home."

McGill group’s anti-Canada event crosses the line : r/canada - "If anyone is worried that these people may have any impact whatsoever, don’t be.  I went to York with people like this, and their movement will inevitably collapse into infighting when someone uses a forbidden word or forgets the cruelty free quinoa salad for the potluck.  Eventually they will all have to get jobs to pay off their student loans and start voting Liberal."

Hummus changed how I feel about cultural appropriation - "Hummus shows up at every Levantine breakfast table. It tells stories across generations. When it’s commercialised without context or origin, something sacred is lost. It feels that hummus is colonised, butchered, brutalised – even the pronunciation of the word itself feels foreign. These ‘hummus fusions’ aren’t inherently evil — they’re just mislabelled and misguiding. If it’s a beetroot dip, call it a beetroot dip. When heritage is repackaged and resold – especially while communities tied to it are struggling – it becomes an insult. It’s not just hummus; it’s history, belonging, and pride. If I can protect this one small piece of culture, I will. At the end of the day, I would like supermarkets to be true to actual ingredients and local recipes of hummus. Stop the cultural appropriation."
Better hunt down all the Levantine places that call a chicken sandwich a burger and scold them for cultural appropriation Apparently non-Levantine people are not allowed to eat hummus without listening to a sermon
He claims "culinary innovation is great" but demands hummus makers use "local recipes of hummus". I guess you're only allowed to innovate where white people food is concerned

Chow's hard-left politics could cost Toronto plenty of jobs - "Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow’s call for residents of Toronto to stop shopping at Home Depot could cost the city thousands of jobs. The company is currently looking to move its Canadian headquarters from an industrial park off of the Don Valley Pkwy. and Chow’s comments could see it leave the city altogether. At a Pride flag-raising ceremony on Monday, Chow called out Home Depot for deciding not to sponsor the Toronto Pride Festival this year by encouraging people to shop elsewhere. “Don’t shop at Home Depot,” Chow said. “Anyway, shop Canadian, shop Rona, yeah, yes, yes. We are not the 51st state. Are you kidding? We are proud Torontonians, right?” Of course, if Chow had paid attention over the last decade, which she clearly hasn’t, then she would have known that Rona was purchased by the American company Lowe’s in 2016 and then sold to American private-equity firm Sycamore Partners in 2022. She’s telling people to stop shopping at one store and telling them to shop at another American-owned store for the purpose of national pride. Of course, she is also acting as a bully against companies who decide to not sponsor an increasingly political and controversial pride festival. Chow said corporate sponsors who decided to put their money elsewhere clearly didn’t know who they were. Then she said the city would not only cover the $300,000 that won’t be coming in from Home Depot and Google, which also dropped out as a Toronto Pride sponsor, but she would also extend city funding to an additional $350,000 per year. Apparently at Toronto City Hall, you can make these types of funding commitments without taking it to a vote at council. I don’t know about you, but that is a problem."
Corporate sponsorship of wokeness can be seen as payment of protection money
No wonder Toronto is broke

Marc Maron goes scorched earth on Netflix, Dave Chappelle and Bill Maher: ‘Fascism is good for business’ - "“Fascism is good for business,” Maron told Pod Save America host Jon Lovett. “Like, Netflix will just co-opt anybody that can tick that algorithm. I used to do a joke about it, that Netflix can become ‘Reich-flix’ very quickly. “And I think the pivotal moment was when they had pushback from the trans community about Chappelle, they realized after several days that that community was not going to affect their bottom line at all, and they cut ’em loose. That is how fascism works in business.”... Maron recently criticized his peer for agreeing with “some of the things that Trump is doing.” “It’s like, dude, you’re a b****,” Maron told CNN host W. Kamau Bell of Maher on his WTF podcast earlier this year. Last October, Maron called out comics who invite “shameless, self-proclaimed white supremacists and fascists” on their shows. In a blog post, he claimed the “anti-woke flank of the new fascism is being driven almost exclusively by comics, my peers.” “Whether they are driven by the idea that what they are fighting for is a free speech issue or whether they are truly morally bankrupt racists doesn’t matter,” Maron wrote. “They are part of the public face of a fascist political movement that seeks to destroy the democratic idea.” He added: “When comedians with podcasts have shameless, self-proclaimed white supremacists and fascists on their show to joke around like they are just entertainers or even just politicians, all it does is humanize and normalize fascism. When someone uses their platform for that reason they are facilitating anti-American sentiment and promoting violent autocracy.”"
Comedy, freedom of speech and women's rights are fascist. Hitler was against smoking so if you're against smoking, you're a Nazi. There's nothing more American than suppressing speech, and there's nothing more Democratic than engaging in lawfare against your political opponents
