Why Depression Rates Are Higher Among Liberals - "American adults who identify as politically liberal have long reported lower levels of happiness and psychological well-being than conservatives, a trend that mental-health experts suspect is at least partly explained by liberals’ tendency to spend more time worrying about stress-inducing topics like racial injustice, income inequality, gun violence, and climate change. Now a team of Columbia epidemiologists has found evidence that the same pattern holds for American teenagers. The researchers analyzed surveys collected from more than eighty-six thousand twelfth graders over a thirteen-year period and discovered that while rates of depression have been rising among students of all political persuasions and demographics, they have been increasing most sharply among progressive students — and especially among liberal girls from low-income families."

SBSQ #21: Why young men don't like Democrats - "Trump fared better among voters who don’t consume a lot of political news, which liberals like to read as a sign that these voters were poorly informed. But that could also indicate that Trump was winning the more apolitical, “normie” vote... I don’t doubt that some of Democrats’ problem with young men is that they’re seen as what in the poker world we’d call “nits”: neurotic, risk-averse, sticklers for the rules, always up in everyone’s business. In my research for On the Edge, I found that risk tolerance is something of an understudied personality trait, but the two truisms are that men generally have a higher risk tolerance than women and younger people are more risk-tolerant than older ones."
According To Study, Young Men Are Not Mentally Ill Enough To Vote Democrat - "It turns out, righteous indignation and perpetual outrage--the two cornerstones of liberalism today--are not the keys to happiness in America... Silver concluded that young men would rather be left alone than "bombarded with explicit political messages." Meanwhile, the most mentally ill among us crave such messaging. They are attracted to messengers who preach change... Consider the average Gen Z male voter. What exactly is the Democratic Party offering them? Preachy commentaries about how masculinity is toxic and how wanting to be a provider is misogynistic (nod to Harrison Butker)? DEI programs that are designed to discriminate against them if they are straight and white, as most male Gen Z voters are? Fake tough guys like Tim Walz? Of course, young men are leaning Republican. How could they not be? "So the young men that Democrats have trouble with aren't necessarily the ones who have been captured by the conservative 'manosphere' or who are looking for a helping hand," Silver explains... "One idea: stop telling white straight young men that they are privileged and must atone for it. Stop trying to convince them to move out of the way for women, gay men, and trans people because it's their turn. There are no turns in a meritocracy. Most importantly, stop trying to shame men for being men. Stop trying to feminize male culture with political buzzwords. A good rule of thumb: if your candidate is too self-important and beta to sit down with Theo Von or Joe Rogan, don't expect to perform well with Gen Z men. In other words, don't expect the Democrat Party to address its disconnect with young men by 2028. Just look at the list of early Democratic frontrunners---from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Kamala Harris, from Gavin Newsom to Pete Buttigieg. Not exactly a quartet of people who young guys would want to sit and have a chat with, now is it?"
Notable & Quotable: Democrats and Young Men - WSJ - "I was honestly surprised by how strong the relationship is. Among voters who report poor mental health, liberals outnumber conservatives 45 percent to 19 percent. Among those who report excellent mental health, conservatives outnumber liberals 51-20. So the young men that Democrats have trouble with aren’t necessarily the ones who have been captured by the conservative “manosphere” or who are looking for a helping hand. Rather, it’s those who report relatively high mental health and see Democrats as being too neurotic and perhaps constraining their opportunity to compete and reap the rewards of their work."

Christian Heiens 🏛 on X - "Progressives have this tendency to go from making things “optional” to requiring them under penalty of law. As a result, Conservatives are preemptively banning things they know the Progressive Left would love to mandate if they ever had the chance to do so. For example, 89% of Ivy League grads want to strictly ration gas, meat, and electricity to fight climate change. Conservatives look at this and correctly deduce that these people will eventually mandate lab grown meat as a substitute for regular meat if they ever have the ability to legally force this on normal people."

Either this or the left wing cope is to look at raw numbers not corrected for population (i.e. not per capita). Per capita is only good when it makes white people/the West look bad (e.g. blaming climate change on the US, and even then it's a very selective per capita which ignores many countries)

Our woke museums are criticising people for living in the past - "How often have you found yourself standing in front of an old master or historical artefact, wondering about the artist or inventor’s personal failings? So, to be clear, you’re not standing there before the Mona Lisa thinking: “Who was she, really? Why the semi-smile? And how about that brushwork!” No, you’re wondering whether, back in 1503, Leonardo da Vinci may have held “problematic views” on race, veganism or DEI (Diversity, equity and inclusion) programs in the workplace. Whether he was not simply a good person – but a good person by the specific moral standards of righteous thinkers, 522 years in the future. It seems a tall order. And I’m guessing every historical figure would fall short, tainted as they are by the cultures and attitudes of the past. A past that was, by the way, their present; a time they were born into through no fault of their own. Nevertheless, the Royal Institution (RI) has decided to hold all the illustrious scientists celebrated in its Faraday Museum to account and detail every “racist”, “slave trading” and “problematic” link uncovered. Which might make the “celebrating” part a challenge... In self-sabotage terms, this can surely only be matched by goings on in Stratford-upon-Avon, where the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is now planning to “decolonise” the playwright’s place of birth, over fears his success “benefits the ideology of white European supremacy.”... Somehow the QR codes take this to another dimension, and I can’t help but picture a world where simply by angling your phone at a prominent figure on screen or indeed in life, a whole menu of mis-thoughts and misdeeds are conjured up. “Left his wife for another woman. Once made an off-colour joke involving Gen Z. Had a stepsister who once married a guy who worked for a woman who voted Reform.” A world where everyone is effectively made to wear digital scarlet letters... One last thought on the sheer pomposity of us thinking that we not only pass the sniff test ourselves but are in a position to be moral arbiters of the past. Because when future generations look at us, with our shockingly lax attitudes to screens and social media and our medical experimentation on children? I’m not sure they’ll see us as blemishless."
Manager suggested blonde, blue-eyed bar worker was ‘Aryan with Nazi links’ - "A blonde-haired, blue-eyed bar worker has been awarded a payout of more than £18,000 in a race discrimination case after her boss suggested she was “Aryan” and “associated with Nazi ideology”. Sky Sinclair, 34, was also asked, “How was Germany?” despite having no connection to the country, an employment tribunal heard. The tribunal heard that on two occasions, Ahmed Soliman, a bar owner, suggested that Ms Sinclair was “racist or associated with Nazi ideology”, telling her she “liked white people better”. Employment Judge Shona MacLean ruled that Mr Soliman – who called her “Aryan” because of her “blue eyes and blonde hair” – had violated her “dignity and created a degrading, intimidating, humiliating and offensive environment for her”."

Nanaimo mother banned from school after social media post - "A Nanaimo mother has been banned from her child’s school after refusing to delete a social media post criticizing a teacher’s progress pride flag shirt. On the first day of school, Bryony Dixon posted on Facebook objecting to a teacher wearing a progress pride flag t-shirt. While the original pride flag was a symbol of gay rights, the progress pride flag is a symbol of intersectional social justice, a movement which has been linked to violence in the past... The next day, Nanaimo Ladysmith School District 68 sent Dixon a letter ordering her to remove the Facebook post. The district wrote that it considered her post “disrespectful to the staff member who was photographed,” adding that “bullying and harassment (including sexual harassment) in any form [is] totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”... In an interview with True North, Dixon said that her post did not single out an identifiable staff member. “It could have been any teacher that’s got a protected gender identity,” she said. “I didn’t say it was a specific teacher. Nothing was identifying a person. The picture was very blurry.” The following day, the school district served Dixon with an exclusion order barring her from school property. The letter stated that her post “links violence in the United States with an identifiable photo of a staff member,” which they said placed the staff member at risk of violence... Dixon said the school district had already been monitoring her online activity. She pointed to documents obtained through a Freedom of Information request showing staff discussing her social media activity. “One of the things that they said was, ‘Bryony is making posts on Facebook. We need to get [staff member] to search her Facebook page. She’s good at this kind of thing. Let’s look for a legal liability,’” Dixon said."

Ms Blakemore-Creedon said: “This person used the cab safety issue to make an anti-Semitic comment based on my Jewish heritage. It was horrible. I reported this to the Labour Party, but nothing has been done.” She continued: I’m so disappointed with all this because my morals have always been Labour. Labour is in my blood. CIJA calls on Ontario to address antisemitism in schools - "A Canadian Jewish group is calling on its supporters to urge the Ontario government to address antisemitism within schools after a federal report found nearly half of incidents reported to administrators were not investigated... The most troubling episodes highlighted in the report, authored by University of Toronto professor Robert Brym, included a teacher telling a six-year-old Jewish girl with one Jewish parent that she was “half human.” Others reported hearing comments such as “Jews are vermin,” “Jews are cheap,” and “F–k you, Jews.”... 10 per cent of Jewish students had “directly experienced” an antisemitic incident between the October 7 Hamas attacks and January 2025 and that over 40 per cent of encounters “involved Nazi salutes, glorification of (Adolph) Hitler, or similar expressions of hate.”... “Something has gone terribly wrong with our promises of ‘Never Again’ when over 40 per cent of the incidents in this study involved Nazi salutes, Holocaust denial, and overt verbal hate such as ‘Hitler should have finished the job,’” said the former Canadian ambassador to Israel."

The Weaponization of “Fascist” and “Far-Right” Labels : r/CanadianConservative - "What needs to be understood in the aftermath of recent events is that when the Left reaches for words like fascist, Nazi, or far-right, they aren’t simply engaging in political hyperbole. They are installing a moral framework in which anyone who falls outside their worldview is not merely wrong, but evil. Once that step is taken, ordinary political disagreement is no longer possible. If you are “evil,” then dialogue becomes complicity, persuasion is futile, and violence is recast as a moral duty. That is why these words are so dangerous when applied casually and broadly, and why their use against mainstream conservatives is far more than careless rhetoric: it is a coded permission structure. It quietly tells people that anything done to stop such “evil” is justified. We see this dynamic most clearly with Trump in the United States. Policy-wise, he is closer to a centrist Democrat from the 1990s than the caricature he has become. But facts are beside the point, he has been cast as the symbol of absolute evil, the stand-in for Hitler. And once that archetype exists, it is effortlessly applied by association. When Canadian media and activists compare Pierre Poilievre to Trump, they are not debating his tax policies or economic plans. They are placing him within the same moral category of “fascist.” And in a climate where “fascists” are considered enemies of humanity, the logical implication is that extreme measures, even violence, are warranted. This is not just sloppy language, it is a form of radicalization, and it has been normalized. The Overton window has shifted so far that anyone right of centre, sometimes even moderate liberals, is casually labeled “far-right.” Once that line blurs, the accusation becomes not an argument but a weapon. It shuts down dialogue, corrodes trust in institutions, and legitimizes harassment, intimidation, and worse. If we are serious about preserving democratic life in this country, we have to name this for what it is: a moral strategy designed to dehumanize political opponents. And the antidote is not to respond in kind. It is to insist, calmly and firmly, on specificity. Which policy is “fascist”? What measure is “authoritarian”? Where is the abuse of power? Make those who deploy these labels defend their meaning. They rarely can. Canada deserves better than a politics where half the population is defined as beyond the pale of human decency. We deserve a politics of persuasion, argument, and evidence, not caricature and excommunication. That is the difference between a country that can disagree with itself and move forward, and one that tears itself apart."

Thread by @xwanyex on Thread Reader App – Thread Reader App - "This is actually pretty instructive and I think it’s genuinely important to understand it. Normie liberals cannot tell the difference between the most extreme versions of statements they believe to be racist and much more banal, defensible statements. They often demonstrate that they can’t see the difference. They don’t recognize obvious distinctions. They have no interest in parsing statements for their actual meaning. There’s just a line over which you become racist and then everything beyond that line is equivalent. This is all muddied by the fact that sometimes this happens because the speaker is genuinely just not bright enough to make these kinds of distinctions, but sometimes it happens because the speaker is acting in bad faith toward an out group, but then also sometimes it happens because many liberals have a kind of sense that it’s good to roll all these things up into one package that’s treated as taboo."
Ecgberht on X - "I think the reason they have a sense that it's good to treat all these things as taboo is that they use it as an in-group marker. It's not about nuance of the argument, it's a binary in-group / out-group distinction."
