The Media's Verdict on Kyle Rittenhouse - "Unless you’re a regular reader of independent reporting — Jacob Siegel of Tablet Magazine and Jesse Singal stand out for being ahead of the pack (and pilloried, like clockwork, for not going along with the herd) — you would have been served a pack of lies about what happened during those terrible days in Kenosha. And you would have been shocked over the past two weeks as the trial unfolded in Wisconsin as every core claim was undermined by the evidence of what actually happened that night. This wasn’t a disinformation campaign waged by Reddit trolls or anonymous Twitter accounts. It was one pushed by the mainstream media and sitting members of Congress for the sake of an expedient political narrative—a narrative that asked people to believe, among other unrealities, that blocks of burning buildings somehow constituted peaceful protests... In addition to having a job in Kenosha, Rittenhouse testified that much of his family lived there: his father, his grandma, his aunt and uncle, and his cousins. He also testified that on the morning of the shootings, he went downtown with his sister and friends to see the damage done by rioting the night before, and spent about two hours cleaning graffiti off of the local high school... Kyle Rittenhouse did not travel to Kenosha to oppose protesters. He testified under oath that he had traveled to Kenosha for his job the night before the shootings, and was staying at a friend’s house... Rittenhouse didn’t bring the gun to Kenosha. The gun was purchased for Rittenhouse months earlier by a friend and stored in Kenosha at the home of that friend’s stepfather, as then-17-year-old Rittenhouse was too young to purchase it... there’s no clear indication that Rittenhouse sought to kill anyone. What we know is that he showed up with a first aid kit and an AR-15-style rifle. Video evidence, and Rittenhouse’s own testimony, indicates that he offered medical assistance to protestors and ran with a fire extinguisher to try to put out fires... Both video evidence and the only living person that Rittenhouse shot that night, Gaige Grosskreutz, undermined the idea that Rittenhouse was simply an aggressor looking for a fight. During cross examination Grosskreutz acknowledged that Rittenhouse shot him only after Grosskreutz had pointed his own gun at Rittenhouse... Here is Congresswoman Cori Bush... Ryan Balch, another witness for the prosecution, testified that Rosenbaum threatened both Balch and Rittenhouse saying, “If I catch you guys alone tonight, I’m gonna fucking kill you.” In the aftermath of the media frenzy around the Covington Catholic story at least there were some mea culpas from the mainstream press, some sense of shame, some desire to get the egg off their faces. But with rare exception it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting that here... the idea that white supremacists hid behind a hill and shot at Bush and her fellow protestors in Ferguson — and that this somehow went completely uncovered until now —sounds a bit like the false claim that the government intentionally blew up the levees in the Ninth Ward during Katrina. Or that the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax. Only this is a statement from a sitting member of the United States Congress. It’s Qanon made respectable... the press, in the main, got just about every key fact in the Rittenhouse case wrong... We saw the night of August 25 what can occur when the state fails or refuses to do what it is uniquely charged to do: maintain the rule of law. It did not help that in many places last summer, cities and police forces indicated or explicitly said they wouldn’t defend people’s property from destruction or burglary during the unrest. And it didn’t help our understanding of what transpired on August 25 that we were told repeatedly by national media outlets that there weren’t riots, and there wasn’t violence in Kenosha that night until Kyle Rittenhouse discharged his weapon. We could all see the blocks of burning buildings with our own eyes. To acknowledge the facts of what happened that night is not political. It is simply to acknowledge reality. It is to say that facts are still facts and that lies are lies. It is to insist that mob justice is not justice. It is to say that media consensus is not the equivalent of due process. And that pretending otherwise for the sake of political expediency is why the National Guard is now standing watch in Kenosha, bracing for violence once again in the anticipation of a verdict that for many, has already been decided."
BlueAnon is good, of course
I still see liberals lying that cities weren't burning
Cori Bush: If Rittenhouse Walks, White Supremacists 'Can Shoot at Us' - "When further pressed for comment, a spokesperson for the Bush campaign said that white supremacists opened fire on the congresswoman while providing no specifics... Just one minor problem with Bush’s assertion: it never happened. According to Ferguson Police Chief Frank McCall Jr., a black man, the department has no record of such an incident... The only documented incident of the type described by Bush occurred in March 2015 when two police officers forming a security line outside the Ferguson police headquarters were shot, causing protesters to flee. Jeffrey Williams, a black man, was later arrested and convicted of the shooting."
Judge Lets Rittenhouse Pick Numbers Out Of Raffle Drum For Jury - "Former Milwaukee County assistant district attorney Julius Kim also commented on the unorthodox jury selection approach. "I've never seen a judge allow a defendant to draw those names. That might be a little unconventional but there's nothing wrong with it that I could really see."
Milwaukee-based defense attorney Tom Grieve was nonplussed. He also said he hasn't seen a defendant do that before in the courtroom, "but it's a shoulder shrug for me." "I don't really care. The point is they have some system to arrive at 12 jurors. It's certainly unusual but I don't see anything wrong with it."
Social media uses, however, were stunned."

Escape The Echo Chamber - Posts | Facebook - "“In fact, he and other conservative protesters were handed water bottles and thanked by police.”
• The mention of “conservatives” is gratuitous, and though it is likely technically correct (we don’t actually know the politics of most involved) this ignores the distinction that Rittenhouse wasn’t protesting and didn’t express any political views in the hours of recordings of him. He and his group were not protesting and rioting, they were protecting property and offering aid. (A couple of people protecting property that night can be seen antagonizing protestors and often being challenged about their behavior by others in the group.)
“Even after the shootings took place, Rittenhouse was not immediately arrested, and walked past police vehicles freely.”
• The officers who he tried to give himself up to, were continuing to hear gunshots near where the original shootings were and believed that the person responsible was still shooting others. That’s why they were eager to get Rittenhouse out of the way so they could continue...
The polarization of society and poor quality of reporting is affecting the criminal justice system. It’s more important than ever that citizens insist that civil liberties be protected and that the lady justice is blind. The canaries in this coal mine are the poor and unpopular who are most susceptible to flaws in the system. If well funded defendants, such as Rittenhouse, can’t receive fair treatment then nobody will. All should be treated equally under the law. Something almost all of us can agree on in principle, if not in practice."

Chrystul Kizer case - Wikipedia - "Prosecutors allege that Kizer killed Volar on June 5, 2018, by shooting him in the head. Charging documents say Kizer admitted to taking an Uber from Milwaukee to Volar's residence, shooting him because "she had gotten upset and she was tired of [him] touching her", and then starting a fire at the residence before departing in Volar's BMW. A neighbor called 9-1-1 to report the fire at Volar's house. Police found and identified his burned body, and a later autopsy showed he had been shot in the head. Volar's car was found abandoned in Milwaukee. Police used a receipt found in the car, surveillance video, and Facebook to track the stolen car to Kizer by matching an arrest photo to her selfies and live video. Prosecutors allege Kizer also stole a laptop and cash from Volar."
Child sex trafficking murder: Chrystul Kizer, charged with killing Randy Volar, faces life in prison. - Washington Post - "She doesn’t remember going to get the pistol. She does remember the sound it made... This was a different story than what she initially told detectives. On the day she was arrested, Chrystul said she didn’t know Volar. Then she said she saw another woman shoot him. Months later, she would tell police that Nelson had been the one to kill him... His court filings show that a few days before the crime, Chrystul sent a Facebook message to a friend saying, “I’m finna get a bmw.” Her friend asked when. Chrystul replied, “Soon.”... The night of the crime, according to prosecutors, Chrystul was texting two people about where the key to “the car” was and that she had learned how to start it. At 10:42 p.m., she texted: “When u want me to do it bae.” At 11:09 p.m.: “Nun but I’m finna do it rn [right now] doe.” 11:13 p.m.: “I’m finna do it.”"

CNN's Cuomo: Rittenhouse Acquittal 'Justified' - We Should Want an Acquittal Under These Circumstances 'No Matter Who the Defendant Is' - "Chris Cuomo stated that while he disagrees with Wisconsin law, the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict was “justified by the law and the facts here,” and responded to arguments that a black person who did what Rittenhouse did would have been convicted by stating that the argument shouldn’t be, “he should have been found guilty because other people would wrongfully have been found guilty under this laws and facts, and you should say, we want this outcome no matter who the defendant is.”"
Lessons from Kenosha - "The only thing surprising about the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict was how long it took the jury to reach it. As should be obvious to anyone who understands the law and had the merest familiarity with the facts of the case, Rittenhouse should never have been charged in the first place. The American Bar Association establishes criminal justice standards for lawyers, among which are those pertaining to prosecutors. Standard 3-4.3(a) of the Prosecution Function reads as follows: “A prosecutor should seek or file criminal charges only if the prosecutor reasonably believes that the charges are supported by probable cause, that admissible evidence will be sufficient to support conviction beyond a reasonable doubt, and that the decision to charge is in the interests of justice.” Given this standard, and given the evidence they produced at trial, the Rittenhouse prosecutors either ignored the standard or proceeded to trial unfamiliar with the state of their evidence. In other words, they were either corrupt or incompetent, and a case can be made that they were both... Recall that the August 2020 police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisc., was found to be justified by both state and federal investigators, a conclusion that should have been obvious to anyone familiar with the simple facts of the case: Police responded to a 911 call regarding a domestic dispute involving Blake, for whom there was an active arrest warrant for sexual assault. Blake was armed with a knife, fought with police officers, and attempted to escape in a van he did not own, seated in which were his three children over whom he did not have legal custody. And yet, how many times was Blake referred to in the media as “another unarmed black man shot by police”? Praised by then-candidates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris (among many others), Blake became another symbol of the supposedly racist criminal justice apparatus, joining Michael Brown, who in 2014 was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo. Like the officer who shot Blake, the Ferguson officer was cleared of wrongdoing by exhaustive local and federal investigations, but the propriety of the shooting was obvious to any dispassionate observer within hours of the incident. Sadly, the news media are no longer staffed by people who see their mission as informing the public of verifiable facts. Instead, today’s newspaper writers and electronic media reporters are proud purveyors of “narratives,” the details of which are crafted in the tonier enclaves of New York City and Los Angeles. The employees of these outlets are ideologically aligned and virtually interchangeable with one another, reflecting the tastes and inclinations of those predominating in those same tony enclaves on the east and west coasts... both CNN and MSNBC aired the prosecution’s closing argument in the Rittenhouse trial but cut away from the defense’s argument? Put simply, they profit from riots, and in such selective, biased coverage they built up public expectations of a conviction even as they were losing confidence in its inevitability. For the media elites, there were gains to be had no matter the outcome of the trial. Had Rittenhouse been convicted, the narrative of his being a white supremacist and vigilante would have been advanced. With his acquittal a slightly different one comes forth, one in which Rittenhouse is still evil but has now profited from a justice system so corrupted as to fail to recognize it, with the added benefit of potential rioting... there was a need for lives and property to be defended in Kenosha. The Rittenhouse incident took place on the third night of rioting following Jacob Blake’s shooting, by which time it was clear local authorities were unable or unwilling to contain it. It is unsurprising that in the absence of legitimate authority others in the community would step forward and try to defend their homes and businesses from those who would destroy them in the name of some diseased sense of “social justice.” While it’s true that deadly force cannot be used to defend property, who would argue that the men with whom Rittenhouse joined should have been unarmed? The 2020 protests, endlessly and absurdly described in the media as “mostly peaceful,” were marked by many instances of assault and even murder. While the media busied themselves anointing George Floyd and Jacob Blake into their pantheon of secular saints, how much time did they devote to the death of David Dorn, the retired St. Louis police captain who, during that city’s rioting after Floyd’s death, responded to interrupt a burglary at a friend’s business and was shot to death for his trouble?"

Pollak: Kyle Rittenhouse Can Sue Jen Psaki for Defamation - "Newly-acquitted Kyle Rittenhouse could sue White House press secretary Jen Psaki for defamation, following her claim Tuesday afternoon that he was linked to the Proud Boys and her implication that he was a violent “white supremacist.” Psaki dodged a question about whether President Joe Biden’s would apologize for his claim in 2020 that Rittenhouse was a “white supremacist,” despite the complete lack of evidence, and recent suggestions of a looming defamation lawsuit... Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Psaki whether the president would apologize, given Rittenhouse’s acquittal, and the lack of any evidence that Rittenhouse was a white supremacist. Rather than answer the question, Psaki attempted to blame former President Donald Trump for the violence, claiming that he had “actively” supported white supremacists and militia groups during his presidency, and that the violence involving Rittenhouse was a consequence... even if it were to be shown that Rittenhouse later met members of the Proud Boys, that was not evidence that he had any connection with them at the time of the riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin, several months earlier, and therefore it was inadmissible as evidence in the trial. In addition, Biden’s claim that Rittenhouse was a “white supremacist” came in September 2020 — months before that photograph was taken in January 2021... Unlike the president, Psaki does not enjoy immunity from civil torts while Biden is in office. Rittenhouse is a public figure, and would have to show that she acted with “actual malice,” which is defined as “reckless disregard for the truth.” That, in turn, usually requires plaintiffs to show that a defendant knew something was untrue, or could have known, but said it anyway."

Kyle Rittenhouse Announces New Project ‘To Hold The Media Accountable’ - "Kyle Rittenhouse joined “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Monday to announce his new initiative “The Media Accountability Project” — a group that will be used to hold “members of the media accountable” for lies and defamation similar to what Rittenhouse endured before, during, and after his homicide trial in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2021... “White supremacy – no one he shot was not white, everyone involved in the story was white, of course, but it’s white supremacy,” Carlson said sarcastically. “They’re lying to put the kid in prison for the rest of his life. What they just told you there are lies. Rittenhouse’s mother didn’t drive him across state lines with an AR-15; he borrowed the gun from a friend in Wisconsin. He lived about 15 minutes from Wisconsin. He worked in Wisconsin. So, the question is, after a full year of watching these people lie in order to imprison a kid for the rest of his, who’s going to hold the liars accountable?” Carlson pondered before introducing Rittenhouse... “I guess I have to ask kind of a dumb question, why isn’t there a group like this that exists already since the media so often not observers, they’re players, they’re participants in the news? Why hasn’t somebody done this before?”... “That’s a good question, Tucker, and I’m not sure, to be honest,” Rittenhouse answered. “But I don’t want to see anybody else have to deal with what I went through, so I want to hold them accountable for what they did to me, so I don’t want to see anybody else have to go through what I went through.”"
