LInks - 13th November 2025 (2 - Migrants: Canada)

Parents react emotionally as Brampton man faces sentence for abducting boy (aka "Lighter sentence sought for child abductor so he can remain in Canada") - "Emotions ran high in a Sault Ste. Marie courtroom today during a sentencing hearing for the man who pleaded guilty to abducting a nine-year-old boy in Thessalon in 2023.  Manoj Govindbalunikam, 37 of Brampton, appeared in a Sault Ste. Marie courtroom as the Crown and defence attorneys made submissions for sentencing.  In May, Govindbalunikam pleaded guilty to the single count of abduction of a person under the age of 14 in relation to an August 2023 incident in Thessalon... If a jail sentence were to be imposed by Varpio, Belisle asked that it be no longer than six months minus a day.  She noted that any longer sentence would trigger an automatic deportation for the permanent resident who has been in Canada since 2013.  With a sentence of six months minus a day, Govindbalunikam would be given the chance to appeal any possible deportation.  “I suggest we should take that into consideration,” said Belisle."

Toronto says federal funding for shelter system falling short - "Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow is warning that Toronto residents could see a bump in their taxes to account for shelter costs, or see more people living on the streets, if the federal government doesn’t provide more cash for asylum seekers coming to the city... Asked how much the city would need to raise property taxes, Chow said it would take an “at least two per cent” property tax hike to raise the extra money, an idea the city would explore through its upcoming budget process."
Clearly, property taxes are too low and rich assholes aren't being taxed enough. Toronto needs to double down on being a sanctuary city

Dallas Brodie on X - "The NDP just said 50% of Canadians are racist for wanting to deport migrants who are here illegally."
I like how they try to muddy the waters, as usual, by claiming that being against illegal immigration means you are anti-immigrant

KLEIN: Canada risks trading Woke for religious sectarianism - "Woke failed because it attacked the truth, but it never commanded broad support. At its height, it was enforced by HR departments, activist journalists, and a small but noisy minority online. Religious authoritarianism, by contrast, could command democratic support. If large enough voting blocs push for restrictions on expression or unequal treatment under the law, politicians will follow. We already see it in Britain’s Labour Party, which is chasing Muslim votes by advancing an Islamophobia definition that undermines free speech. In Canada, with our political class so eager to signal virtue, it is not hard to imagine similar steps being taken here. Business leaders must pay close attention. Capital depends on stability, contract law, and the free exchange of information. When policy becomes influenced by religious vetoes or inconsistent enforcement of rules, markets will notice. The same applies to executives already harmed by costly DEI initiatives. They were told these efforts would lower risk, but instead, they fractured workplaces, damaged morale, and sometimes even led to lawsuits. The next wave of ideological influence could bring much higher costs. What is needed now is a return to fundamental principles. Equality under the law. One standard for everyone. No special treatment based on identity, no hierarchy of citizenship, no selective enforcement of rights. Canadians should be Canadians first. This does not mean abandoning cultural traditions or religious practices in private life. It means drawing a clear line between the private and the political. Once government starts handing out privileges based on identity, division is inevitable. How can we pretend this collision course does not exist? Across the country, debates over immigration, cultural accommodation, and freedom of expression are heating up. In Toronto, major streets have been blocked for religious observances. In Winnipeg, public funds flow to some groups and not others, with no consistent rationale. The longer this continues, the more likely Canadians are to retreat into factions. That is how free nations begin to unravel."
Wokeness is what leads to theocracy, so

Tablesalt 🇨🇦 on X - "Hey @MarkJCarney Remember when you said that our tax dollars going to green companies were "investments for Canadian jobs"? Well this company right here -- Volta Energy Solutions (who got $220,000,000 from Canadian taxpayers) has a LMIA open to hire foreign accountants."

Carney’s aim to cut immigration marred by undercounting of temporary migrants, economists warn - The Globe and Mail - "economists who have analyzed immigration statistics say that any reductions would not reflect the true number of temporary residents living here and may mean that pressure on housing and services will not be eased to the extent expected.  Official population figures also fail to capture undocumented migrants who last year Mr. Miller estimated could number about 600,000.  The economists warn that Ottawa is overestimating the number of temporary migrants who leave the country once their visas expire. This could have a serious impact on planning, including for housing demand, they say."

Lendezi @lendezi: "Why the fuck is Twitter boosting posts like this. Get this racist shit off my TL"
Rosita: "Whats really funny is that the original poster didn't even say anything racist. The racist thought entered your mind because you know this doesn't look right."

Eby criticism of immigration rules comes as his approval rating tanks - "Premier David Eby angered some of his own supporters with the recent attack on federal immigration policies, in particular the temporary foreign workers program.  Former NDP minister Katrina Chen said the premier’s comments, blaming recent immigrants for overloading homeless shelters and food banks, were “dangerous and unacceptable.” “I’m furious about this,” she wrote on social media. “This fuels bias and discrimination.”... The NDP’s sometime allies in the Green party also issued a statement calling Eby’s comments “reckless,” “divisive” and “unfair.”... He was explaining that fiscal troubles meant the government could not afford to sweeten the contract offer to striking employees. Then he cited the federal government as a source of “fiscal headwinds” battering the province.  “There are strains on our provincial budget that are driven by policy decisions out of Ottawa that need a serious look,” said the premier.  He blamed the international student and temporary foreign workers programs for “the very high unemployment rate” among youth. The temporary worker program was rife with fraud and “needs to be either reformed significantly or cancelled,” said Eby. “The majority of people using our food banks, have been in Canada for less than two years,” he further claimed. “Our homeless shelters have new arrivals to Canada in them instead of people who have been living on our streets for a while.  “We can’t have an immigration system that fills up our homeless shelters and our food banks. And we can’t have an immigration program that results in high youth unemployment.”  For NDP supporters, the most galling aspect was probably how the premier linked his attack on the temporary worker program to Pierre Poilievre, saying the federal opposition leader had raised “a very timely issue.”... All these criticisms recall when Eby began his tough talk on crime, public safety and decriminalization, and was criticized for abandoning his activist, civil libertarian roots.  The former author of How to Sue the Police made no apologies, saying he was no longer an activist but rather the premier of the province."
Time to blame the rich, conservatives and "far right" again. In left wing land, everything is the fault of Capitalism and supply and demand are myths

Meme - "Anti Immigration Rally in Christie Pits."
"Christie Pits. Nazi-free since '33" "Unite Against Racism. Justice for Migrants! Status for All!"
MeidasCanada: "Resistance Report This past weekend, fellow resister Linda travelled from Ottawa to Toronto to attend the NO TO HATE community rally at Christie Pits. She sent us this dispatch: "Did a there-and-back-in-a-day train trip to join the counter protest against Canada First. Many groups were represented - from teachers for Palestine to workers' rights to pro- immigration. Canopies with face painting, snacks, and even an ice cream truck made it an upbeat family event with a side of politics." Thank you, Linda, for showing up and being our eyes and ears on the ground. #NoToHate #TheResistance"
"This rally was in my neighborhood. I was away that weekend so I missed the event. Now, I'm not sure who organized the rally and what their priors are, but you can see by my local community facebook group that in their eyes, anyone raising concerns about immigration levels is a "nazi" or a "racist" or "hateful". I wonder how far that goes for them? Does that mean NO borders? or are there limits in their eyes? Or do they have a coherent idea about how much immigration is too much immigration, etc....?"
"I love how distorted it’s become to where not being in favour of mass immigration means youre a Nazi….so wild and sad"
"I remember when the talking online was still kind of new (message boards, comment sections, chat rooms) and everyone was saying 'nazi this' and 'nazi that' and at first, I just assumed these were kids. Then when I realized some weren't, I assumed calling everyone a nazi was so ridiculous, that it would have to eventfully fade away.  But here we are, 25ish years later . . . ."
If you're against mass migration and open borders, you're a Nazi. A good reminder that you can't take the left seriously when they accuse someone of being a "Nazi". DItto with "fascist"

Mods, can you please do something about the rampant racism in this sub? It's embarrassing. : r/oakville - "Yeah. Most Canadian's aren't really racist, they just want Canada to keep operating like it has.  A huge portion of people who had absolutely no problem with certain kinds of people a decade a go, don't suddenly hate them all for no reason. They are identifying serious and obvious societal and cultural shifts and feeling uneasy about where it all leads - and can sense how it doesn't really fit in to the multi-cultural Canada we've all loved."
"Well said. I don't think I'm a racist person, but the rise in immigrants from a specific nationality don't seem to have respect for the ways our society runs, nor respect for our facilities and services. I want everyone to have am opportunity to succeed in this country, but I can cite countless of (admittedly anecdotal) examples I've seen in public over the last several years.  Again, I try to love everyone, and I try to treat everyone based on the quality of their character, but if you have no respect for the people around you in public, then how can I be expected to have respect for you?"

NDP housing announcement goes awry when resident blames shortage on immigration - "An NDP election announcement on housing took an unexpected turn on Wednesday, when a resident of St. John's — who had been invited by the party to speak about their struggle to get housing — took to the podium to blame immigration for the country's housing crisis. Speaking on Livingstone Street, where a fire burned through six N.L. Housing units in March, NDP Leader Jim Dinn committed to building 1,000 public housing units per year if elected.  Standing alongside Dinn was Shirley Gallagher, a retiree who returned to the province from Alberta and struggled for months to find a place to live.  She was listed in the NDP's announcement as a "validator," which the party says are citizens with lived experience in dealing with the challenges the party hopes to address."

NDP housing announcement goes awry when resident blames shortage on immigration : r/canada - "You're describing what is essentially the majority opinion across Canada.  We had a consensus for strong annual immigration in the 300-400,000 range of a mix of skilled workers who got in on a point system and a smaller number of refugees from legitimate conflict zones.  No one except the most bleeding heart wants a couple million uneducated uber eats drivers from a single province in one country attending fraudulent "colleges" as a pathway to PR.   We want diverse, skilled immigration at a rate where we can actually absorb newcomers and set them up for success"
"300-400 is way higher than the consensus. Consensus was between 100-250k a year."
"What's crazy is that the Liberals are still planning on pumping in 700K+ people into the country this year: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/mandate/corporate-initiatives/levels.html  Like bro read the fucking room."
"That particular room in Ottawa is very small, we're not allowed in, and the people in that room all want lower wages."
"It's what their voters wanted though unfortunately. Younger people just gotta accept they won't have access to affordable housing or to transitionary jobs as generations before them did."

Niagara rally by masked members of men's 'nationalist club' raises fears of growing extremism - "He said the idea that immigrants, temporary foreign workers and students are taking jobs from Canadians seems to have entered mainstream thinking and contributed to policy changes, such as limits on international students at Ontario post-secondary schools and proposed changes to Canada's temporary foreign workers program. Ameil Joseph, an associate professor in the faculty of social sciences at McMaster University, said policy changes like that can have negative repercussions on the people involved and contribute to further anti-immigrant sentiment, especially when those narratives go unchallenged. Canadians can watch MacKenzie's videos and see him criticizing immigration in a way that may sound similar to some politicians debating policy, Joseph said... Upon seeing images of the rally, Joseph said he thought about how much has changed since the public uproar when white supremacists marched on Charlottesville, Va... Second Sons' choice of a backdrop for their rally in Niagara was designed to invoke the idea of Canadians banding together against "invaders," Joseph said, and to appeal to patriotism as a way to attract recruits. "It feels like they're succeeding," he said. "It's absolutely terrifying." In the Hamilton area, Joseph said, community groups have banded together to counterprotest far-right groups and co-ordinate responses to their actions. He said he'd like to see more of that, coupled with more investment from local governments to aid in those efforts."
If you don't support open borders, you're contributing to attacks on migrants. Of course, CBC media bias is a far right conspiracy theory and misinformation. And of course, the corpse of Charlottesville must be dragged out yet again
Time to arrest Harry Chambers from Capital Economics for promoting xenophobia by linking strong immigration and higher unemployment, as well as Kari Norman from Desjardins for inciting attacks upon immigrants by pointing out that immigration is depressing youth employment (i.e. taking jobs from youth)

Niagara rally by masked members of men's 'nationalist club' raises fears of growing extremism | CBC News : r/canada - "Masked people fly Islamic terrorist flags every weekend in Toronto and the cops carve out pathways for them.  This is why the media is shit. Intolerance is intolerance no matter what colour the face is behind the mask."
"As someone centre-left it’s been f*ckin TERRIFYING watching all this happen. For most of my life most insane conspiracies and things like anti-semitism flowed from the far-right.  These days however it’s the opposite, it’s like the far-left remembered they can be just as crazy & hateful, and then set out to prove it. Many are now openly perpetuating conspiracies they mocked the far-right for believing for years!"
"No not really when you take into account for the lefties.  "the issue is never the issue the issue is the revolution"  Also the influence that the leftist intellectuals had in the ME and 3rd world mostly after WWII"

Liberals vowed fewer temporary foreign workers; we got more - "What’s worse is that even with high unemployment and a housing crisis, a significant percentage of people coming into Canada are temporary residents on a work permit.  “While Canada faces the lowest youth employment since 1998, the Liberals are on track to issue the most temporary foreign worker visas in a single year,” Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner said in a statement Monday. Late last year, the federal Liberal government said it would cap the number of people entering Canada through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program at 82,000 for 2025, but so far this year they’ve allowed in 105,000. Meanwhile, the International Mobility Program was supposed to be capped at 285,000 and in the first six months, but we’ve added 302,000 through this program... No wonder the Carney government was hiding immigration data.  Earlier this month, Rempel Garner had revealed the government’s open-data website had not been updating their immigration figures for the last several months. At the time, the government said it was reviewing how these figures would be presented.  Late Friday, the numbers were quietly released. Like we are seeing on other fronts, those numbers show Prime Minister Mark Carney not living up to what he promised Canadians during the election campaign. The Liberals have been promising to curb immigration since April 2024, when Justin Trudeau famously said that we were bringing people in faster than we could absorb them. Last November, the Trudeau Liberals – whom Carney advised – promised to reduce numbers, thus the proposed caps that they have blown past. And during the election campaign in April, Carney blamed the Trudeau government for creating this mess and promised to fix it.  “Since the pandemic, the previous federal government has let immigration levels grow at a rapid and unsustainable pace, with our housing and social infrastructure failing to absorb all the people arriving,” the Liberal platform said.  “The government has a responsibility to those who come here to ensure that they have access to jobs, social services, and housing. If we cannot meet those responsibilities, we need to adjust the numbers until we get back on track.”... the promise by the Carney Liberals to lower the number of permanent residents will still end up being much higher than Canada’s historical averages."

Michelle Rempel Garner on X - "Day 2 of posting http://jobwatchcanada.com/jobs data!
Calgary Unemployment: 7.7%
Alberta Youth Employment: 20.3%
But a Calgary Tim Hortons wants to fill a job with a temporary foreign worker for $36/hr and the Liberals are going to let them! Follow for daily updates! 😒🆘"

Asylum claimants moving into apartments (aka "Funding to move asylum claimants from homeless shelters into apartments sparks questions about fairness") - "Rahman pointed to the long waitlists faced by many Londoners in need of public housing."

Iranian who killed someone in England gets another chance to stay here - "An Iranian whose refugee claim was turned down in Canada because he was convicted in England 16 years ago of a serious assault that left one person dead and another two injured will get another shot at arguing he should be allowed to stay here because his bisexuality, Kurdish ethnicity, conversion from Islam to Christianity and identity as a Westerner would all put him at risk back home.  An immigration officer refused Sirus Lotfi’s last ditch plea to stay in Canada in March 2024, arguing he had not provided sufficient evidence to establish the basis for his protection claim."

Indian refugee claimant's story 'strikingly similar' to 200 others - "A young Indian man, denied refugee status in Canada because his story of being framed for his friend’s murder was “strikingly similar” to five people who travelled here with him and nearly 200 others who employed the same immigration consultant, has won another chance at staying in Canada.  Parwinder Singh took the decision from Canada’s Refugee Appeal Division (RAD) to a federal court judge for review. The judge granted the review and sent Singh’s case back to another decision-maker at the division for re-evaluation."

Do you have Indian Fatigue, Canada? : r/InCanada - "I understand this is a huge topic in Canada.  A lot of it is stemming from new immigrants that are bringing their cultural practices and way of life from mainly the Punjab region of India/Pakistan. Which is very underdeveloped compared to Canada and many other parts of the world. Naturally, there will be conflicts occurring.  I personally have seen very aggressive behavior from Indian men, elevators smelling like massive body odor, no concept of personal space, refusal to integrate/learn the language and other things. However, I am originally from an area that is 70% Hispanic(basically just Mexican). I believe Canada is in phase 1 of this integration process, because it was the same in the US. There are all these Indians that move over and refuse to learn the language and integrate, but...  Their kids will be bilingual. They will have friends of different backgrounds. They will move to different cities eventually and will attend college(university) and enter the Canadian workforce as a native Canadian. Their kids(the grandkids of the original grouping) will only know English(or French if talking about Quebec immigrants). They will have zero attachment to India and will not know what their grandparents are really talking about. Most likely will understand the language when younger, but not be able to speak it and won't even be able to understand it by the time they are adults.  This is the cycle that has happened time and time again in the US. A lot of the Indian Fatigue is due to Canada never experiencing this level of huge influxes of people from a vastly different part of the world that are also stubborn when it comes to language and integration. I just want to say, it'll be okay. This will pan out.  The government should definitely be ensuring there are language and culture requirements to advance in the visa processes(Student->Open Work Permit->PR->Citizen). Putting caps on the number of temporary, student, and immigration as a whole would be smart as well. The housing and cost of living crisis is only being fueled by allowing more people in than there is capacity for. Once the nation can account for how to fix these kinks and to have enough empty housing to account for future large influxes of people, then go ahead. Until then, maybe not.  Indian Fatigue is more a result of how many people they are letting in from India versus Indians just existing in general. In 20-40 years, these problems won't exist. This is the growing pains of mass immigration which is now being restricted. This can be ironed out under the correct government decisions, but we will see how the current government does. My assumption is that we will have to wait for another government, but I could be wrong."

Groups of indian men have ruined the nude beach
In my city we have a famous nude beach that's been here since the 70's. It's always been a popular spot for all people to come and disrobe and be as nature intended. It was a huge spot for the hippies, and has still been popular even today. Now my girlfriend doesn't even want to go anymore, because the last time we went there were large groups of indian men, fully clothed in jeans and sweathers and shoes, just sitting around staring and ogling at women. Not even just staring, many of them would either film or go up and hit on women that were alone and naked. I'm not alone in this sentiment either. I saw a lot of posts on the city's subreddit about this last year, and now I'm just sad because it's beach season soon and we can no longer feel safe going to my favourite beach because of these gross groups of men that have zero respect. It's not like I don't expect men to glance or enjoy looking at a naked woman, I mean obviously that's human, but to go to the beach specifically to ogle and make people pictures and not participate in the culture by being nude yourself is disgusting. This is what's happening to us. We're fully losing our trust society and it's becoming dangerous for women to exist here. I'm so fucking mad about this shit."

Canada Proud on X - "#REPORT: The Bank of Canada has confirmed that the one million foreign students allowed into Canada by the Liberal government "accounted for a larger share of workers in low skilled occupations, replacing Canadian born workers.""

I'm a child of immigrants, but I don't support mass immigration - "I am the grandchild of four immigrants... They worked, they scraped, they built... They arrived here not to be celebrated but to be left alone, to rebuild in peace, far from the politics that ruined their lives. That is the blood that runs through me. And I will not let it be used as a cudgel against my reason. There is a game being played here in Canada. If your grandparents were immigrants, then you are forever bound to cheer on the borderless, rootless vision of the world dreamt up by tenured professors, Liberal politicians and suburban activists who’ve never had to live with the consequences of the policies they champion. You are expected to smile politely while the nation is repurposed into a processing centre. You are to say “thank you” and sit down while our foundational culture is hollowed out in the name of “diversity.” And if you don’t, you’re branded a bigot — or worse, a traitor to your own story. It is emotional blackmail dressed up as virtue — and it’s intellectually insulting. We are told — repeatedly and ritualistically — that “we’re a nation of immigrants.” It’s a favourite line of Canada’s chattering class, and one that is often used to shut down debate. We’ve heard it in Parliament, in classrooms and on CBC panels. This tired mantra is wielded not to enlighten, but to end conversations. It doesn’t matter whether your ancestors came fleeing war or chasing tax credits, whether they arrived in 1910 or yesterday. The circumstances don’t matter. The numbers don’t matter. The cost doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is that you shut up and get in line. Well, I reject it all — absolutely and without apology... I owe nothing to the people who use my heritage as a weapon. I am not obligated to carry water for ideologies my grandparents never subscribed to. And I will not pretend that mass immigration, stripped of assimilation and of restraint, is anything but destructive. I am not a hyphenated citizen. I am not a guest. I am not a perpetual immigrant. I am Canadian. My parents are Canadian. My grandparents — immigrants though they were — became citizens of this country and thought of it as theirs. They never lived as permanent outsiders, and neither do I. What my grandparents experienced was not this. It was immigration governed by expectations, by rules, by culture, by a shared sense that the host nation mattered and that entry was not a right, but a privilege. They didn’t arrive demanding accommodation. They arrived prepared to adapt. They weren’t told Canada was racist or rotten. They were told to become Canadians. And they did. Now the very values that allowed them to succeed — things like speaking English or French, respecting the law, earning your place and pledging loyalty to Canada above all — are dismissed as relics of some oppressive past. You don’t even need to speak one of the country’s official languages nowadays — citizenship can be granted without a working knowledge of English or French. The border is treated as a formality, national identity as an embarrassment and Canadian-ness itself as something to be apologized for — unless, of course, it’s being used to signal smug superiority over the Americans. And through it all, we, the children and grandchildren of immigrants, are told to keep our mouths shut. We’re told we must support the demolition of our national identity, simply because once, long ago, someone in our family got off a boat or a plane. But I live here. I was born here. I was raised here. I pay taxes here. I vote here. I love this country as mine, not as a borrowed space on indefinite loan from history. So no, I don’t think like an immigrant. I think like a Canadian. I will not allow my grandparents’ sacrifices to be weaponized against the country they chose. I will not allow my name to be invoked in service of policies that degrade what they built. I will not be guilted, lectured or emotionally extorted into being complicit in our national decline. So yes, I am the grandchild of four immigrants. But that does not make me a mascot for open borders. And I will not clap like a trained seal while bad policy is being made in my ancestors’ name."
