Links - 9th June 2025 (2 - Trans Mania: UK Supreme Court Ruling)

UK Supreme Court says legal definition of ‘woman’ excludes trans women, in landmark ruling - "Britain’s Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the definition of a woman in equality legislation refers to “a biological woman and biological sex,” sparking celebrations outside court among gender-critical campaigners but warnings it was a “worrying” development for transgender people.   The case centered on whether trans women with a gender recognition certificate (GRC) – which offers legal recognition of someone’s female sex – are protected from discrimination as a woman under the nation’s Equality Act 2010... If transgender women with a GRC were afforded the same protected characteristic as biological women under the Equality Act, Hodge said, they would possess “greater rights than those who do not,” citing provisions relating to pregnancy and maternity leave."

Wilfred Reilly on X - "Worth remembering that the Trump administration, without a ton of fanfare, adopted basically the Brit standard for sex definition here weeks ago."

Trans NHS patients can access every women-only space in London - "All NHS hospitals in London are refusing to comply with single-sex laws to stop transgender people using women-only spaces... An analysis reveals there are no single-sex spaces for women across the NHS in London, whether for patients or staff, who are forced to share changing facilities and bathrooms with trans women.  It comes days after the Supreme Court ruled that trans women were not legally women, with the Government saying it would “provide clarity and confidence for women and service providers such as hospitals”.  But an analysis of 28 hospital trusts in London found none could guarantee single-sex spaces, while some openly opposed Government demands... The website of Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust tells patients their “privacy and dignity is really important to us, which is why you’ll be placed in a single-sex bay”.  But its policy, obtained under freedom of information (FoI) laws, says there may be “instances when sharing accommodation with the opposite gender reflects personal choice and may therefore be justified” if consent is obtained from those in the area, and seemingly conflates sex and gender... Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust likens moving a trans woman out of a women-only ward to racism... Two trusts have taken it upon themselves to alter the wording of the policy through conflating sex and gender. Whittington Health NHS Trust and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust claim to have “eliminated mixed gender hospital inpatient accommodation” instead, therefore allowing patients to self-identify as a woman.  All the trusts seemed to have links to controversial charity Stonewall and the research revealed a correlation between trusts ranked higher by the charity’s equality index and the clauses their guidance contains... Campaigners said public materials claiming single-sex spaces existed were “deceitful” and “a pack of lies”, when all hospitals operate gender self-identification by “stealth”... Before the general election, Sir Keir Starmer said it was important to “protect female-only spaces” and suggested the NHS should adopt “side rooms” for transgender patients, but nothing has changed almost a year on."

Meme - Anas Sarwar @AnasSarwar: "I’ve always called for the protection of single sex spaces on the basis of biological sex.  This judgment gives clarity to women and service users about the protections in the Equality Act.   The SNP Government must provide clear guidance for Scottish public services so they can implement the Equality Act properly to uphold dignity for all."
Readers added context they thought people might want to know: "As leader of the Scottish Labour Party, Anas Sarwar told his MSPs to vote in favour of Nicola Sturgeon's GRR Bill and self-ID policy which would have opened up women's single-sex spaces to biological males."

Meme - Nick Buckley MBE @NickBuckleyMBE: "It turns out that the woman who writes fiction is more correct than the woman who writes laws."
"Stella Creasy: 'JK Rowling is wrong - a woman can have a penis'. 'Sometimes you have to break cover and be controversial,' says the MP for Walthamstow and passionate campaigner for women and mothers"

What happened to all those female penises, Keir? - "Women have penises. Men can grow cervixes. Babies aren’t born with a biological sex. Show me a batshit take on transgenderism and I’ll show you a high-profile Labour Party figure who has gladly spouted it. Like those Thai cave boys a few years ago, Keir Starmer and his mob became so lost down the gender rabbit hole they needed some external miracle to break them free.   Well now they’ve got it. The landmark Supreme Court ruling yesterday is surely Labour’s opportunity to slowly back away from the crime scene...   The initial noises from His Majesty’s Government are simultaneously encouraging and hard to take seriously. Minister for women and equalities Bridget Phillipson has suddenly remembered the w-word in her title. ‘We have always supported the protection of single-sex spaces based on biological sex’, she says, with a straight face. This is the same Bridget Phillipson who said transwomen in possession of a penis are legally entitled to use the women’s loos. That wasn’t even a year ago.  I suppose you can’t blame her entirely for the confusion. Her boss spent the best part of five years publicly wrestling with what you might call The Penis Question, before he was elected prime minister and journalists felt compelled to ask him other, less humiliating questions. In the end, he famously settled on 99.9 per cent of women not having a penis. Which would still mean tens of thousands of female penises out there in the wild.   Where are they now, Keir? Now that five Supreme Court justices have made the bleedin’ obvious sayable again, will he listen to them where he refused to listen to voters, feminists and the few remaining sane people within his own party? Perhaps this former human-rights barrister doesn’t know what to think until he’s had it relayed to him by top-ranking members of the legal profession. He certainly didn’t want to take Rosie Duffield MP’s word for it, who was hounded out of Starmer’s supposedly ‘moderate’ Labour for daring to cling to her heretical view that biology exists... The trans takeover of Labour speaks to how susceptible the technocrats are to mania. These supposedly smart people have trained themselves out of common sense. They belong to an overeducated caste that defers blindly to expertise. That is naturally suspicious of what ordinary people believe to be true. That thinks the counterintuitive idea, the one that is hard to understand and even harder to explain, must be superior. They will happily believe that 2 + 2 = 5, men can become women, and insanely expensive windmills will bring down energy costs, if someone with letters after their name says so.   It also speaks to how visionless our rulers have become. Bizarre ideas have so deranged governments across the West precisely because they stand for so little. They have no ideology, no vision for society, and so they latch on to transgenderism or critical race theory or climate alarmism to lend some meaning, some semblance of purpose, to what is otherwise power for its own sake. Above all, Labour and mainstream politics more broadly has lost the civilising influence of ordinary people... The more Labour has become the political wing of the professional managerial class, the more prey it has become to the luxury beliefs that percolate in upper-bourgeois Britain.  Indeed, the problem of our age isn’t mass hysteria, but elite hysteria: the establishment’s unnerving capacity to embrace one barmy, toxic idea after another, before quietly dropping it and moving on to the next... ‘Once manias die down, most people pretend they never believed these things to begin with’, writes the ever-wise Lionel Shriver. Perhaps trans extremism will one day be filed alongside the Iraq War, Covid lockdowns and (let us pray) mullets, as things everyone now claims to have always been against. Hence Phillipson’s statement yesterday, claiming she has always been at war with Eastasia... as we try to see off one elite mania, we must be on our guard for the next one to come along. For all the snobbish talk since Brexit of ordinary folk being dangerously suggestible, the battle for TERF Island reminds us of the mote in the establishment’s eye. The elites have gone insane, while voters remain radically sensible. That really is the story of our times."
Trust the Experts!

Starmer’s trans about-turn branded ‘shameless fiction’ - "Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of peddling a “shameless work of fiction” after the Government claimed it had always supported single-sex spaces for biological women.  On Tuesday evening Bridget Phillipson, Labour’s women and equalities minister, told Parliament that “there is no change to announce” following the Supreme Court’s ruling last week that transgender women were not legally women.  Ms Phillipson said: “This Government will continue, as before, working to protect single sex spaces based on biological sex now with the added clarity of this ruling.”  She added: “I know how important it is and always was to survivors to have single-sex spaces based on biology, places of safety after trauma.”  Last year, Ms Phillipson said that trans women could use female toilets if they had a gender recognition certificate.  Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the Opposition, described the minister’s statement as a “shameless work of fiction” and said that “I could not believe my eyes or my ears”. She added: “They’ve never said this before. This is a U-turn, but we welcome it.”  The Prime Minister’s spokesman said earlier on Tuesday that he no longer believes a trans woman is a woman following the landmark judgment. Sir Keir said that the ruling brought “real clarity”.  In an interview in 2022, Sir Keir had said that “trans women are women” and had also previously said it was “not right” to say that only women have a cervix... Earlier, Sir Keir finally broke his silence on the ruling that transgender women were not legally women. He had faced criticism for failing to address the judgment.  In the past, he and other Labour figures have tied themselves in knots when asked to define what a woman is. He repeated his position that “a woman is an adult female”... In 2023, Sir Keir said “99.9 per cent of women … haven’t got a penis”. He later changed his stance, declaring that a woman was “an adult female”, and last June said he agreed with Sir Tony Blair that a woman has a vagina and a man has a penis.  Meanwhile, Ms Phillipson has backed the rollout of unisex lavatories in the wake of the court’s ruling... The Supreme Court ruling is expected to prompt widespread changes across numerous parts of public life, including in elite women’s sport and the NHS."

This is surely Starmer's most shameful U-turn yet - "So Keir Starmer has finally worked out what a woman is, and all it took was an 88-page judgment from five Supreme Court judges... men and women are different; that a certificate cannot change your chromosomes; and that you cannot have sex-based rights if you don’t believe in sex. Soon, I’m sure he’ll be seeking the wisdom of the court on whether the sky is indeed blue and water is indeed wet... What a difference three years make. In 2022, Starmer proudly told a bemused nation that “a woman is a female adult, and in addition to that transwomen are women, and that is not just my view – that is actually the law.” And the less said about his torturous pontifications about the precise number of women who have penises the better.  Can feminists, LGB activists and sane people in general trust him to now root out this poisonous ideology for good? Of course not. He is the anti-conviction politician. An empty, slabheaded receptacle into which any mad idea can be poured, only to be jettisoned when it is politically expedient to do so. Still, Starmer’s volte-face remains a remarkable achievement of the gender-critical movement. They have changed the political weather on the trans debate and forced our human weathervane PM to turn to their position. The high-status opinion no longer reigns supreme. And that’s one hell of a start."

It’s too late for Starmer to switch sides in the culture war - "Labour hounded out of its ranks the MP Rosie Duffield, who was abused by male MPs for saying what the Prime Minister now says is obvious... Clear and unambiguous guidelines need to be issued to public service providers such as the NHS.  These are being drawn up by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission and yet some Ministers are known to be organising against it. They have criticised the chairman, Baroness Falkner, accusing her of misinterpreting the court ruling. She will need the Prime Minister’s full backing. But will she get it?  Judging by the exchanges in parliament, a number of Labour MPs are not happy with the judgment and its implications. How long before the Government performs another U-turn?"

Sharron Davies MBE on X - "So..Stonewall deliberately misrepresented the Equity Act to all those that paid into their Stonewall champions scheme for points, so basically you paid for incorrect legal advice that’s now going to cost you more money to correct. Rather Foolish…& definitely anti women’s rights"

Meme - Richard Dawkins: "Aggressively dominant male mammals typically urinate to scent-mark their territory. “I’ll piss where I like." "I❤️pissin' on TERFs."  They think they’re women. But can you imagine a better walking, talking, reeking advertisement for toxic masculinity?  #SexMatters"
"Bring back witch burning ... JK"
"I <3 pissin' on TERFs"
"You're Just Jealous That My Dick's Bigger Than Your Boyfriend's And My Tits Are Bigger Than Your's"
"The only good TERF is a *hangman* TERF"

Trans activists’ death threat placards reviewed by police - "The force is examining a series of threatening placards carried in central London during a demonstration against the Supreme Court ruling on the definition of a woman.  Two signs showed hangmen figures alongside the phrase “the only good terf is a ---- one”, another urged women to give themselves a “DIY lobotomy” and a fourth appeared to show bullet holes with the message: “I will make you listen.” The Met initially told The Telegraph it would take no further action over the signs, saying that although it had received complaints about some placards, “to date the images and signs are from historic events, did not take place in London, or do not constitute a criminal offence”.  However, the force changed its position after being presented with evidence from this newspaper that threatening signs had been displayed in central London on Saturday.... Sarah Vine KC told The Telegraph that the hangman placards “clearly cross the line of criminality” and suggested that police would have “no difficulty in making a decision to charge the responsible person” if the situation were reversed.  She said: “Any reasonable person looking at the message “The only good terf is a ---- terf” would be likely to believe that immediate violence would be used against anyone perceived as a ‘terf’.”  The barrister added: “If the word ‘terf’ were to be replaced by any equivalent word – ‘trans woman’, ‘Muslim’, ‘Tory’, ‘immigrant’ – I would expect the police to have no difficulty in making a decision to charge the responsible person.” Police forces faced pressure over their handling of placards and online posts during the Southport riots and pro-Palestine protests. Jewish groups, including the Board of Deputies, have repeatedly criticised the Met for failing to take sufficient action to counter anti-Semitic hate.  During the far-Right riots in the summer of 2024, forces acted with relative swiftness to arrest and charge individuals who incited racial hatred... The term “terf”, used on the two hangman placards, is a slur which stands for “trans exclusionary radical feminist”. Both signs appear to suggest women were better off dead.  The first of these placards emerged after Jo Grady, the University and College Union (UCU) general secretary, shared the image on X, the social media platform, under the caption: “Hate will never win.”  After it was pointed out to her that one of the images showed the sign reading “the only good terf is a ---- terf”, with a cartoon of someone being hanged by the neck, Ms Grady deleted her post and apologised for inadvertently sharing the image... Ms Nettleship, 52, said that she spotted the placard reading “the only good terf is a ---- one” from “across a sea of people merrily chanting: “F--- JK Rowling.”  She said: “I’m not terrified , perhaps I should be – that’s me – a sensible middle-aged woman they want dead. Does his mother know he is holding that sign? Signs like these tell you the nasty, misogynistic underbelly of trans activism is ever present.”  She said the most concerning thing was that “politicians, cops and unions (who were all there) continue to look the other way”... She said that the sign which showed pretend bullet holes in it was “incredible”, and remarked at the graphic nature of the another placard. It was a drawing of a person stabbing themself in the eye with a knife, with the caption: “Are you a transphobe? Why not try a DIY lobotomy?” Ms Maynard, who said she has been campaigning for women’s rights since 2016, said she was not surprised at the nature of the signage, however.  She said: “Suddenly these signs are causing concern, but we’ve been confronted with these signs for years, and far worse.”  Helen Joyce, the director of advocacy at Sex Matters, said: “Some of these signs are impossible to interpret in any way other than encouragement to commit serious violence against women."
Poor, helpless victims who just want to exist. The fascist state needs to respect human rights and not crack down on free speech

Trans activists vandalise Nelson Mandela statue during protest - "A Nelson Mandela statue was one of seven vandalised by trans rights activists protesting against the Supreme Court’s ruling on the definition of a woman.  Sculptures of Sir Robert Peel, Benjamin Disraeli and the suffragist Millicent Fawcett were also defaced by protesters... The Metropolitan Police said it had launched a criminal investigation into the incident, which also saw statues of the Earl of Derby, Viscount Palmerston and Jan Christian Smuts targeted.  The statue of Fawcett, a prominent campaigner for women’s rights in the 19th century, was daubed with graffiti reading “f-- rights”... Sir Keir Starmer, who pledged to protect single-sex spaces during the general election, has not condemned the vandalism.  Kemi Badenoch said Labour must “start defending women” as she reposted images of trans rights protesters holding up signs calling for JK Rowling to be killed on her X account.   The Tory leader said: “A mob of trans-activists waving death threats at women isn’t protest – it’s criminal incitement. If the law isn’t enforced, we don’t have equality, we have two-tier justice. It’s time for Labour to stop being on the side of these extremists and start defending women.” Robert Jenrick, the shadow justice secretary, said: “The law must be enforced equally. Why have there been no arrests or charges for brazen criminal damage?  “Until there is proper punishment for criminality like this, people will continue to do it knowing they can get off scot free. Why will Starmer condemn some politically motivated criminality but not others? His silence is telling. No wonder the public call him Two-Tier Keir.”... “Daubing graffiti on the Millicent Fawcett statue is a message to women that these bitter, violent men are unwilling to respect our rights or boundaries. They may think their actions are clever, but they are a perfect illustration of the reasons we need those boundaries. Men like this have no place in women’s spaces.”... “If the protesters are arguing for these human rights, for women’s rights, for trans rights, and they’re vandalising statues of those people that fought for those rights then it does very much undermine what they’re fighting for.”"

BBC told to apologise as ‘blacklisted’ scientist dismantles trans debate on Question Time in resurfaced clip - "The BBC has been told to apologise for allegedly “blacklisting” a scientist who said changing sex is impossible.  Professor Robert Winston made the remarks in a 2021 edition of BBC’s Question Time programme and viewers say he is “barely on TV anymore”.  After the UK Supreme Court ruled that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex, a video of Winston’s appearance is doing the rounds again on X. In the clip, Professor Winston “categorically” declared that you cannot change your sex... Winston told Fiona Bruce he sensed a wave of hate mail coming his way - revealing it is something he had become accustomed to... “Overall, I think it’s a sad thing we can’t discuss biological science without getting into this emotional argument.”... Winston, who is one of the UK’s best-known scientists, used to present BBC programme How Science Changed Our World."
Weird. I thought sex and gender were different and only ignorant people didn't know that
Robert Winston is a biologist, Professor of Science and Society and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College London. It's sad that his transphobia and hate has clouded his judgment and made him ignorant and hateful

Genevieve Gluck on X - "In response to the UK Supreme Court decision ruling that 'woman' refers to females, trans activist Charlie Craggs tells @Channel4News  that he doesn't want to use facilities with "predatory men," that he is "looking forward" to lesbians being hurt, and that the ruling doesn't affect him because "what are you going to do, put me in prison?"  Charlie, no one would be questioning women about their sex if there weren't men like you lying about being women. If women are being harassed, it's your fault."

James Esses on X - "🚨A whistleblower from @Girlguiding  has been in touch.  Volunteers have been instructed that, irrespective of the Supreme Court judgement, boys who identify as girls can use female camp rooms and toilets. Worse still, parents must not be told.    This is a safeguarding nightmare."

Darren Grimes on X - "🚨 NEW: Civil servants are now threatening strikes because trans-identified men can’t use women’s toilets.  Yes—strikes. Over the basic right of women to have single-sex spaces.  Their union says this is “segregation” and wants to launch legal challenges against the guidance—which simply upholds the law after the Supreme Court confirmed gender means biological sex.  Imagine thinking women’s privacy is the problem, not the ideology trying to erase it.  Britain’s had enough of this madness and the institutions enabling it."
Left wingers love unions because they're easy to take over and use to push the left wing agenda

Meme - "Britain's largest teaching union says trans women MUST be allowed to use ladies' toilets in schools - despite Supreme Court ruling"
Sall Grover @salltweets: "NO. THE ANSWER IS NO."
Venice Allan @roseveniceallan: "Transgender is the only protected characteristic that demands other people take their clothes off in front of them."
Sall Grover @salltweets: "I’ll never forget when @WomenReadWomen said to me, something along the lines of, “when gender identity is a protected characteristic, it means that a sexual fetish is a protected characteristic.” Often, with more rights than actual women."

ripx4nutmeg on X - "BBC News has polled five people on the Supreme Court ruling that women are women and found they all disagree with it. The five are four cross-dressers and a woman who says she's non-binary. The BBC adds that the survey should not be treated as 'scientific'"

Britain’s biggest union allows trans woman to run in female seat - "Sir Keir’s Government accepted the Supreme Court ruling last month despite the Prime Minister indicating in the past that not all women were biologically female. Ministers are now facing a number of legal challenges from trans activists and campaigners, including the UK’s first transgender judge. Victoria McCloud is planning to take the Government to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), claiming to feel “contained and segregated” by the Supreme Court ruling. The Good Law Project, founded by Jolyon Maugham KC, also claims human rights have been breached after ministers backed a ban on transgender people using women’s toilets. Waple said: “Unless advised otherwise by Unison, if elected I intend to take my seat on the NEC. “The biggest threat to women’s rights is not trans people, but rather the one per cent of super-powerful rich, clinging to their wealth and denying real funding for housing, domestic violence services and women’s services. “The undemocratic and unaccountable Supreme Court ruling plays to the false narrative and agenda that trans people are a threat to women and will only serve to create a climate of fear among trans people.”"
Bev Jackson on X - "For years, women and LGB people have been highlighting and combating a misogynistic, unlawful takeover of UK institutions by the gender identity cult. The law has now been clarified. But captured institutions from the civil service to trade unions are openly defying the law. This is a serious situation. Without the rule of law, society descends into chaos."
I like how attacking judges is normally a Danger to Democracy, but when judges correctly interpret the law and it threatens the left wing agenda, suddenly they are "undemocratic and unaccountable"

Meme - Sall Grover @salltweets: "If an accurate definition of the word “woman” makes you feel less safe, there’s a chance that the greatest risk to you is yourself."
"Members of Suffolk Pride were asked if they felt less safe since the Supreme Court ruling"
