Another Mom Arrested? Not If We Can Help It! - Parental Rights Foundation - "You probably remember seeing it on the news: Georgia mom Brittany Patterson was arrested on October 30th after her almost 11-year-old son walked unattended to the local store, less than a mile from his home... The boy was never in any danger. But that’s not how one stranger framed it when she called it in to the local sheriff. The caller said she’d seen a boy “about six or eight years old.” Brittany’s son was days away from being eleven. And due to his rural surroundings and his parents’ choice to raise him with a sense of independence and personal responsibility, he was used to having the kind of freedom that would let him wander.  Just not to the local store, apparently.  Sadly, the danger here was never that he would be hit by a car or abducted by a stranger. Yes, those things can and do happen. So do car accidents, but that doesn’t keep us from putting our kids in the car and leaving the driveway.  The danger was that a stranger might not like that the boy was alone, might misjudge his age or level of self-sufficiency, and might call a law enforcement agency too eager to “help” by intruding on a family’s rights. Which is exactly what happened here.  Brittany’s lawyer, David DeLugas, is executive director of ParentsUSA. He points out the irony of the date of Brittany’s arrest.  “The very next night, October 31, a lot of parents let their kids wander the streets, many of them with no more supervision than Brittany’s son had. But only Brittany got arrested for it,” David told me in a phone conversation (paraphrased)."

Health Freedom Louisiana on X - "The “better diagnosis” or “increased awareness” fallacy is so easily disproven, it’s comical.   Show us the 1 in 36 adults with autism over the age of 50. Show us the 1 in 36 elderly adults with autism  in nursing homes.   If all it takes to increase the rate of autism is better diagnosis, it would be true of EVERY age group, not just those born in the 80’s and after.   Try again."

We need to stop diagnosing each other with autism and ADHD - "Aside from being just plain wrong – if I have Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) then I’d argue so does anyone who’s ever worked an office job or owned a smartphone – it’s kind of, well, rude, isn’t it? Not to mention utterly bizarre that the average layperson feels so comfortable flinging out medical labels. In the era of social media, it seems like everyone considers themselves an “expert” on neurodivergence – even when that “expertise” boils down to having listened to a podcast or watched a YouTube short about it one time... Most of the time, the person proffering their strident opinion on the complexities of the chemical makeup of your brain or the way it’s wired is completely unqualified to do so. The age of the armchair diagnosis is in full swing. Social media has undoubtedly been a huge factor in your average Joe feeling entitled to pronounce the people in their lives “neurospicy”, thanks to the exponential growth in content surrounding ADHD and autism. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok, while initially great tools for shedding light on these conditions and destigmatising them, have recently been accused of peddling a huge amount of misinformation and convincing an increasing number of people to misdiagnose themselves and others. One academic study published earlier this month suggested that social media content is “romanticising” ADHD, portraying it as a “cute” disorder and pathologising “normal everyday experiences” as symptoms – bog-standard things like having a messy bedroom, forgetting where your keys are or procrastinating at work. After analysing the 100 most popular ADHD videos on TikTok, psychologists from the University of British Columbia in Canada found that fewer than half the claims about symptoms were “robust” or accurately reflected clinical guidelines and classed two-thirds of the ADHD-related statements as “normal human experiences”. Perhaps unsurprisingly, young adults who watched loads of ADHD content were far more likely to have overestimated the prevalence and severity of “symptoms” in the general population. Experts have identified a similar trend when it comes to #autism content online. One analysis of TikTok autism spectrum disorder (ASD) videos published in the science journal Drugs, Addictions and Health in December 2024 revealed that of 100 TikTok videos tagged with “autism spectrum disorder”, 24 per cent were classed as useful compared to the 40 per cent that were deemed “misleading”. Most clips (86 per cent) weren’t posted by healthcare professionals. Crucially, the study broke down whether videos were about the symptoms/diagnosis of ASD; overall information about the condition; causes of ASD; or advice on managing the disorder. The vast majority (62 per cent) of content concerned itself with symptoms and diagnosis. Is it any wonder, then, that so many social media users suddenly start seeing neurodivergence everywhere they look? While some people are content to diagnose themselves or their friends – whether erroneously or not – based on online findings, many are seeking to make it official. There has been a huge surge in the number of patients in the UK who have requested an autism assessment, growing 22 per cent year on year to hit 200,000 in August 2024. With demand more than 10 times higher than it was in 2019, a massive backlog has built up – 90 per cent of referrals are waiting longer than the recommended 13 weeks for assessment, according to NHS data. It’s an even worse state of affairs for young people, with a 350 per cent rise in children waiting for an autism assessment since the height of the Covid pandemic. Waiting times exceed two years; Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) are completely overwhelmed. Up to 80 per cent of child mental health referrals to the latter are now autism-related in parts of the UK. A friend tells me about her autistic nephew who cannot find a local secondary school able to accommodate his additional needs. Diagnosis is only the first step; what’s the point of attaching a label to someone if there’s no resource or help available on the other side of it?"

Meme - Ken Cheng: "My stepdaughter tried to put poison in my food several times. I hired her. Here's why. My second wife had a 13 year old daughter when we met. She really hated me. She knew I was deathly allergic to peanuts and sprinkled peanut shavings into my food on several occasions. I almost died. Most stepparents would ground this child, but I respected her. Why?
1. It shows a solutions oriented mindset. I'd respect her less if she hated me and didn't try to kill me.
2. Giving someone a job is the best way to stop them murdering you. She is then dependent on you, plus nobody has ever hated their boss.
3. It highlighted a security flaw. I had been complacent in not checking my food for peanuts every meal, which left me vulnerable to my enemies.
Keep your friends close, keep your stepdaughters who have almost taken your life closer. You learn more from them."

Why Toronto is seeing a wave of violent jewelry store robberies : r/toronto - "They are realizing how easy it is to perform.  Security guards can’t touch armed suspects. They swarm and are armed. They cover their faces. They take stolen cars as their get away car. It happens in less than a couple of minutes so police can’t respond fast enough.  It’s like a bank robbery. A lot of bank robbers get away with it a dozen times before they are caught typically through their own mistakes or patterns put together by police over time.  I keep telling my husband it’s the perfect crime which is why it keeps happening.

FIRST READING: Mark Carney’s wildly unworkable plan for an 'all-in-Canada' auto sector - "Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has been pledging to defund the CBC for quite some time; it’s been one of his most consistent political promises since becoming leader. But in a Quebec-specific platform this week, the Conservatives confirmed that this would not include Radio-Canada, the broadcaster’s French-language arm. Radio-Canada differs quite sharply from CBC in that viewership is still high. As one example, the Radio-Canada talk show Tout le monde en parle is consistently one of the most popular shows in Quebec. However, this is only the most official incarnation of the Conservative pledge to demolish English CBC while leaving French CBC unscathed. As far back as 2023, Poilievre was accompanying his “defund the CBC” chants with reassurances that Radio-Canada would be fine."

Canada's premiers have wanted to scrap internal trade barriers for years. Why is it hard to do? - "According to a 2019 report from the International Monetary Fund, there are four categories of trade barriers in Canada: natural barriers such as geography, prohibitive barriers such as restrictions on the sale of alcohol, technical barriers such as vehicle weight standards and regulatory barriers such as licensing and paperwork requirements. Perrin Beatty, a former federal cabinet minister and former head of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, said he doesn't think most Canadians know they exist. "There are barriers to mobility in Canada, in terms of people's ability to go and find a job in another region. There are barriers to commerce as well, and these are things we've been living with since Confederation." Ontario Premier Doug Ford said on Wednesday the trade situation — where rules around items like first aid kits and truck tires vary across provinces — "sounds ridiculous and it is ridiculous."... Carlo Dade, director of trade infrastructure with the Canada West Foundation, said there are good reasons for some provincial regulations, like how Quebec requires snow tires in the winter. "There are some rules that make sense given geographic, language [and] cultural differences," Dade said. "But these are exceptions to the wider rule. If you can drive a truck safely across the Prairies, you should be able to drive it safely across Atlantic Canada." Philippe Couillard was premier of Quebec when it signed on to the CFTA. He told The House that "obviously everybody agrees" on reducing trade barriers, but there are challenges even when negotiations are done in good faith. During his time in office, Couillard said he and colleagues from B.C., Ontario and Nova Scotia agreed on a formal framework to open up alcohol catalogues so other provinces could showcase their products. "But then, we'd get down to the corporation itself, which has its own board, its own objective — and remember, has to provide money to the government every year to help them with the budget," Couillard said. "So it's not a totally independent relationship."... The former Quebec premier said provincial Crown corporations are not "usual or normal stakeholders" since provinces need their revenues, which means politicians hesitate to make changes that threaten the success of those businesses... "I don't want to be the Quebec premier [that's] going to add an amendment to the linguistic legislation to exempt certain businesses…. Politically, it would create significant turmoil," Couillard said. Dade said it's hard for politicians to convince voters that liberalizing interprovincial trade is good because voters can't see the benefits personally. "Can you go and find a worker who will recognize that they benefited from getting an extra shift or an increase in pay?… Raising provincial GDP by 0.2 per cent and not having anyone in front of whom you can put a microphone is different from a retail political sense," Dade said... Beatty said all premiers need to come to the table and be willing to take a fresh look at interprovincial free trade, especially as Trump's tariff threat looms large. "It may be perversely that Donald Trump has helped us develop that political will, that he may force jurisdictions in Canada to say, 'What can we do to make ourselves more efficient domestically?'" Beatty said. "If that happens, then this is something that's positive," Beatty said."

Man calls roast pig placed near Muslim stall in Yishun canteen 'insensitive', Muslim netizens see no issue - "A Muslim commenter thanked the man for looking out for them. However, they said that they saw no issue with what occurred.  The commenter explained that while Muslims couldn’t consume pork, they could still eat next to it.  Furthermore, they said the bus captains’ tables are meant for general use and not halal-exclusive. Another Muslim netizen claimed to frequent the canteen and said the roast pig was not placed close to the Muslim stall at all.  Additionally, they explained that not eating pork was their religious belief and should not be forced onto others.  The netizen saw no problems with the placement of the stalls or the roast pig.  As such, they accused the OP of “stirring shit” with his complaint. Another user sarcastically asked if the man wanted the stall vendors to place the pig on a bus instead."

Why the restaurant first date is dead - The Globe and Mail - "The nature of dating has been radically transformed in the past decade, fuelled by the popularity of dating apps. With thousands of potential matches at one’s fingertips, singles are willing to meet up faster and more frequently, and that’s changed what a typical first date looks like.  Fewer people are choosing restaurants as a location. Some, like White, are gravitating toward bars or cafés because it’s easier to beat a fast retreat if things don’t go well. Inflation has also made dining out significantly more expensive than it was prepandemic... Visiting a restaurant on a first date can also be unnerving for those who are self-conscious about how they look when they eat... White gets “the ick” – a feeling of instant revulsion – when she learns a date is a picky eater, when a man tries to show off how wealthy he is by his menu choices, or when a guy suggests going for dinner at a restaurant in Toronto’s King Street West neighbourhood.  “It’s someone who’s probably pretty basic and only goes to places that are trendy in this kind of mainstream way,” she says. Maeve Duffy, 25, has been turned off by men she’s dated when watching them put ketchup on their food – including, once, a full English breakfast.  “What are you, 8?!” says the St. John’s bartender. It’s become such a deal-breaker for her she’s mentioned it in her Hinge profile to deter those who love the condiment from engaging with her on the app."

'Woke nonsense': The debate over B.C.’s new school grades - "“A’s” are gone from British Columbia report cards, but B.C. parents hoping to gauge their child’s performance find the newfangled “descriptive” grading system confusing, according to a new report.  Last year, the B.C. government scrapped the traditional A, B, C grading system for kindergarten to Grade 9 students in favour of a descriptive grading system that saw student progress judged along a scale from “emerging” to “extending.” “Parents, by and large, do not understand the new descriptors: emerging, developing, proficient, and extending,” said Michael Zwaagstra, a Senior Fellow at the Fraser Institute.  The report, conducted by Leger for the Fraser Institute, asked parents of school-aged children (ages five to 18) enrolled in public and independent schools across Canada to match “extending” to its B.C. government definition.  In B.C. specifically, 43 per cent of parents made the wrong choice, the highest proportion of any province; extending, per the government’s decision, means “The student is meeting the learning standard expectations with increasing depth. This is not perfection.” While 83 per cent of Canadians said the letter grade “C” is clear and easy to understand, only 36 per cent of B.C. parents could correctly identify what an “emerging” grade means. Ninety-nine per cent of B.C.’s K-12 parents said they want clear academic assessments for their child’s report cards... “If the point of report cards is to provide feedback to parents, then obviously the feedback should be something that is understandable to the average parent,” he said... Walker appreciates that the province is trying to avoid discouraging students with traditional letter grades, “but at the same time, eventually life is gonna grade you.”... By creating descriptive grades, “you’ve now created a barrier for parents,” said Zwaagstra, who emphasized the advantage of the traditional letter grade system.  With A’s and B’s “you can take a quick look and you immediately have an approximate idea of how your kid is doing,” he said.  “When you have these descriptors, you have to interpret them.”  A 2021 report by B.C.’s ministry of education that surveyed more than 4,000 people before the change found that 69 per cent of respondents were dissatisfied with the idea. More than half of teachers reported low satisfaction, while 60 per cent of parents and 83 per cent of students didn’t approve of the concept."

AOC's journey. | Billy Ridgeway - "In the wilds of American politics, we encounter a remarkable tale of transformation. Our protagonist, a young, idiotic bartender, embarks on an astonishing journey that takes her from behind the bar to the corrupt halls of Congress overnight. This young jackass, not known for her intellectual prowess, is driven by a fervent commitment to woke ideology. As she ascends into the halls of corruption, our young jackass is filled with idealism and vodka, determined to implement her idiotic ideas. However, the road ahead is fraught with challenges, and her extremely low intellect quickly becomes even more apparent. Her woke policies lead to chaos, and the area she represents becomes even more of a shithole. Illegal immigration surges, straining local resources. Poverty deepens, casting a shadow of despair over the community. Drugs and crime grip the region, leaving its residents regretting putting a bartender in charge of their city. It appears that our young jackass's lack of intellect and dumbass notions are screwing the very people she was supposed to serve. The story of this jackass ******* in Congress is a cautionary tale of putting a bartender in charge of more than making margaritas."

My children were on the school bus and Virginia Giuffre’s story doesn’t add up - "Parents have defended a school bus driver accused of crashing into Virginia Giuffre at 70mph, which she alleges caused life-threatening kidney failure.  Ms Giuffre, a Jeffrey Epstein victim who has accused the Duke of York of sexually assaulting her as a teenager, said earlier this week she had just days to live after she was hit by a bus in Western Australia.  However parents of the children involved have backed the driver’s claim that the collision was minor, with the bus travelling at a lower speed that could not have caused the bruising to Ms Giuffre’s face seen in a photo she posted on social media.  Speaking to The Telegraph, they said Ms Giuffre’s statements were “lies” and that the “whole story is sick”... the school bus was seen at the site of the crash, and appeared to be without any visible damage, with no debris left on the road.  Ms Wright and another parent, Hayley Miller, said the bus was intact when their children alighted about 15 minutes after the crash occurred.  Ms Miller said she was “disgusted” that Ms Giuffre would share a photograph of a bruised and grazed face alongside unfounded allegations against the driver they trust with their children’s lives... He said police had “laughed” when they were tasked with photographing his undamaged bus for evidence after Ms Giuffre went public with the allegation... Police said there was a collision between a car and a bus, but there were “no injuries reported as a result of the crash”.  They said the car sustained 2,000 Australian dollars (£968) worth of damage.  Mr Munns was under no legal obligation to report the crash to police, given he believed no one was hurt and the damage was “minor”, but said he did so because he felt there was something suspicious about the incident... It earlier emerged that Ms Giuffre appeared in court over allegedly breaching a family violence restraining order 10 days before the crash... Representatives for Ms Giuffre told The Telegraph on Wednesday that her husband of 22 years had been granted a restraining order against her even though he was alleged to have “brutally assaulted” her in January.  They claimed that Robert Giuffre “used the system intended to protect victims to his advantage”."
Clearly, she can't have been lying about anything else and this person must be paid off by the Royal Family

What we know about Virginia Giuffre's health condition as charges emerge - "Giuffre, who lives in Australia, said on Instagram that doctors had given her "four days to live" after her car was hit by a school bus. She uploaded a picture of herself with a bruised and battered face alongside the details of the crash, and said she had “renal kidney failure”... Western Australia Police has characterised the incident as a "minor crash”... The Western Australia Public Transport Authority told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) that they were “unaware of any such bus crashes,” and St John WA ambulance service reported to the ABC that they were not called to any bus-related crash in Neergabby – the location of the crash.  The East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS), which oversees Royal Perth Hospital, where Giuffre was believed to be a patient, told ABC that Giuffre “was not at any of their facilities”."
