Michael Shellenberger on X - "Democrats who support Harris appear to think that her being a half-black woman makes her a unique and gifted politician. But Harris is the opposite of unique. She rose to the top by conforming, not standing out. Nor is she gifted. Throughout her political career, Harris hewed to the demands of Democratic interest groups and the political consultants who serve them. She inherited the political machine created by her former boyfriend, Willie Brown. As a result, Harris has avoided facing substantial competition, and the one time she did in 2020, voters resoundingly rejected her. Despite this rejection, Harris was handed a position as Vice President in what was widely perceived as a strategic move by Biden to put a black woman on the ticket. Holding Harris to low standards reflects the soft bigotry and patronizing attitude of Democrats toward minorities. Because the Party has essentially coddled Harris, she has not been forced to grow as a leader in ways she otherwise might have. That Harris is now consolidating support as Democrats’ best hope of defeating Trump points to a major legitimacy crisis for the Party, as well as for the media and the federal bureaucracies that are heavily aligned with it. It was only possible for such an unpopular candidate to gain the Party’s support because, since 2016, Democrats and the mainstream media have gone to extreme lengths to subvert democracy in order to target Trump. These lengths have included the Russia collusion disinformation campaign, mass censorship of political speech, attempts to criminalize political opposition, and an effort to prevent Trump from running for office again. All these activities have eroded the legitimacy of the state, the media, and the Party. Their legitimacy depends on public confidence. This confidence diminishes when these institutions so transparently undermine civil rights, fail to meet citizens’ needs and operate without integrity. The war on democracy led by Democrats, the press, and the “deep state” has, in this way, ultimately helped Trump gain support. At the same time, it has left Democrats without good options to defeat him. By favoring woke, racialist politics over a substantive political platform and by selecting nominees in an anti-democratic process for three presidential elections in a row, Democrats have been left with an extremely weak candidate. By consistently showing bias for over eight years, the mainstream media has lost prestige and is no longer in a position to shape and manipulate public opinion in favor of Harris. And, by weaponizing government against Trump and his supporters, federal agencies have inspired hatred and distrust among many members of the public who may view Harris as the anointed figurehead of this broken deep state bureaucracy."

It should go something like this: Kamala Harris is a California liberal Democrat. Do you want her to do to the United States what she and other liberal Democrats did to California? California has the highest taxes in the country. Highest housing prices. Highest gasoline prices. Only the richest people can afford the American dream in California. People are leaving the state in droves for a more affordable life in states with better government. Companies are leaving too, to escape burdensome regulations and taxation. California used to be the greatest state in the nation, back in the 1970s when Ronald Reagan was the governor. Now it's the worst. Homeless people are everywhere. Crime is out of control. "The most multidimensional Kamala clusterfuck came a month after she entered the primaries, when she appeared on the streaming morning show The Breakfast Club. She immediately found the casual, relaxed gear that can be her most winning, and for a while was winning indeed But she was too anxious to ingratiate herself with the show's younger, cooler co-hosts, DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlamagne tha God. At one trouble making point, she too gleefully owned up smoking to weed in college: "I did inhale HEH HEH HEH HEH." Asked about her favorite music, she named "Tupac" and "Snoop." The music answer drew a wave of ridicule. Some of the flak came from bad-faith click baiters looking for any excuse to attack her. But some (mine, for instance) came from. being genuinely confused by the show's cross-talk into thinking Kamala had claimed to have listened to Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg in college. She attended Howard University in the mid- before Tupac or Snoop had started recording. In fact. Kamala wasn't referring to her college years, And really, how could that have been the case? Pros don't make that kind of mistake. The reason the calumny had legs was that Kamala had slipped from her casual vibing mode into cringe ingratiation. It was visible in her body language, audible in her voice, and made a far-fetched interpretation seem plausible In another excessively ingratiating move during the same Breakfast Club broadcast, Kamala told Charlamagne tha God that legalizing marijuana came naturally to her. Why? "Half my family's from Jamaica. Are you kidding me? MEH HEH HEH HEH HEH." The joke infuriated her Jamaica-born father, Donald Harris, a retired Stanford development economist who had devoted his previous two decades to improving Jamaica's economy. In a public letter to Jamaica Global Online, Professor Harris issued a mind-blowing rebuke of his daughter's "travesty." He evoked their sober, hard- working ancestors "turning in their grave" at seeing their reputations besmirched by the "fraudulent stereotype of a pot-smoking joy seeker." He accused Kamala of deploying the stereotype "in the pursuit of identity politics.""

Black Lives Matter Denounces Democrats for 'Anointing' Kamala Harris - Newsweek - "Black Lives Matter criticized Democrats for not giving voters a say—and called on the Democratic National Committee to host a virtual snap primary ahead of the party's convention in August... "Democratic Party elites and billionaire donors are attempting to manipulate Black voters by anointing Kamala Harris and an unknown vice president as the new Democratic ticket without a primary vote by the public," Black Lives Matter said in a statement. "This blatant disregard for democratic principles is unacceptable. While the potential outcome of a Harris presidency may be historic, the process to achieve it must align with true democratic values." The organization added: "We do not live in a dictatorship. Delegates are not oligarchs. Any attempt to evade or override the will of voters in our primary system—no matter how historic the candidate—must be condemned. We demand an informal, virtual snap primary now that the incumbent president is no longer in the running."... Black Lives Matter said any process that does not include voters could undermine Harris, or another Democrat, if they win the White House in November. "Let us be clear: This is about the Democratic Party following a process that protects the legitimacy of any future Democratic president following this unprecedented moment," the statement said. "Installing Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee and an unknown vice president without any public voting process would make the modern Democratic Party a party of hypocrites. It would undermine their credibility on issues related to democracy. "Imagine our first Black woman president not having won some sort of public nomination process. The pundits would immediately label it as affirmative action or a DEI [diversity, equity and inclusion] move, and any progress made by a President Harris would be on shaky foundations. If Kamala Harris is to be the nominee, it must be through a process that upholds democratic principles and public participation.""

The Real Reason Harris’s Time as ‘Border Czar’ Is a Political Vulnerability - "Since Joe Biden announced his intention to withdraw from American public life at the end of his term, the Trump campaign and its Republican allies have focused on their new opponent’s subpar performance handling border security. The GOP’s strategy makes sense. For all the media’s efforts to revise or even erase history, Harris was, in function if not title, the Biden administration’s “border czar.” And yet, the Republican Party’s approach to this messaging campaign has so far been to frame Harris as a fully empowered functionary who nevertheless bungled her charge. In reality, the Biden administration set Harris up to fail, as a way of providing the president cover for his own dismal mishandling of the border... the president tapped his vice president not to bring the crisis under control but to take the blame for it. Harris was not empowered to oversee the administration’s policing efforts on the border, spearhead negotiations on the Hill to reform U.S. asylum law, or negotiate deportation regimes with the nations beyond Mexico’s borders from which most migrants were coming. She was charged with “talking” to the leaders of Mexico and the nations that make up Central America’s “Northern Triangle” to address the “root causes” of migration. You know, “gang violence and trafficking and cartels,” the president said at the time, but also “natural disasters, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes.” If the vice president had the power to mitigate phenomena like that, she’d be overqualified to merely preside over the Senate. In fact, Harris wasn’t granted any power at all, and she treated the role with which she’d been saddled like the burden it was. Within weeks, her conspicuous failure to even visit the border she’d been tasked to oversee became a political liability — one her lack of political talent only made worse. But within a few months of her accession to the role, Harris started producing the only results she could: A commitment from twelve private companies to “invest” in the region, the deployment of a USAID disaster team to provide “food assistance” and “poverty reduction,” and roughly $300 million in humanitarian assistance. All this was supposed to mitigate the “push” factors driving migrants north, but its effects soon proved negligible. The initiative’s failure came as no surprise to Kamala Harris or her staff. By June 2021, Harris’s aides were telling reporters that they had begun to “panic” over the torment to which Biden had consigned them. As CNN reported at the time, “her assignment was being mischaracterized and could be politically damaging if she were linked to the border.” Indeed, “potentially opening her up to criticism for the handling of the seemingly intractable problem” was why Harris was tapped to be the face of the administration’s failures on the border in the first place. The president’s staff never missed an opportunity to undermine Harris’s conduct in her new role, promulgating the subtle implication that the horrors at the border were an outgrowth of her mismanagement of the crisis. The exercise in misdirection was so effective for the Biden administration that it went back to the same well on several subsequent occasions. Harris was soon given the task of combating state-level Republican efforts to reform voting systems, over which she had zero authority. The White House even dispatched her to Europe to stop Russia from invading Ukraine just three days before Russian forces cascaded over the Ukrainian border. All the while, White House staff scoffed at Harris’s failures in on-background conversations with the press... the reported tensions between Harris’s office and Biden’s staff and the lingering hostility toward Harris nursed by Jill Biden, who was said to have not forgiven the vice president for sandbagging her husband in the Democratic Party’s 2019 primary debates, are indicative of why she was treated like a receptacle into which the most thankless and insurmountable tasks were dumped. The president’s staffers routinely retailed the notion that Harris was unelectable to the presidency, in part because of how poorly she managed the roles with which they had burdened her. Engineering this self-fulfilling prophecy served the president’s purpose at the time, which was to neutralize his most viable Democratic rival. In the end, even his methodical effort to undermine his own likely successor could not save Biden from the ravages of time... Harris is indelibly tainted by her association with the Biden administration’s failures. The GOP should not shy away from Harris’s record, which is a story both of incompetence and of how little faith her own allies have in her political acumen and capabilities as an executive. If Harris’s own boss could not trust her with some of the awesome duties and powers of his office, why should we?"

Thread by @SaysSimulation on Thread Reader App – Thread Reader App - "Thinking about the first week of the Harris campaign, which is basically a huge wave of coordinated media propaganda - it's the most female presidential campaign I've ever seen. Not just the candidate - it's about gender, it's about race, about attitudes, about being a "brat"
It's about the mean girls getting together and doing a little character assassination, attacking Vance & the other white guys as being weird, creepy incels. From a female perspective, it must be awesome. What it lacks is any semblance of substance, of logic, of debating the issues, or of proposing solutions to the greatest challenges the United States has faced in my lifetime. None of that is there. Just female group posturing, to gain popularity points while socially annihilating the competition.
This nation is in very bad shape fundamentally in multiple areas. Geopolitically, the US is losing around the world, fast, as the Ukraine war gets worse, the US is unable to protect sea routes, West Africa is lost, Venezuela threatens war in the hemisphere, and the Middle East threatens to blow up with the expansion of the war to Lebanon. Financially, the US is in rapidly worsening shape as it relies on the highest peacetime deficit spending in history to try to hold the economy together, as the national debt soars out of control, as BRICS+ membership surges around the world in an explicit attempt to dethrone the dollar.
The borders are open. Half the nation thinks Civil War is likely.
Yet, none of these issues matter, because let's face it - this has become the most gender dominated race in our history. Kamala doesn't understand this stuff, and has no solutions. Her female base doesn't care, because they don't understand it - or even care about substance - at all. Yay! Girl Power! We get all the money and good jobs! Forget about all those creepy incel white guys trying to talk about things that nobody cares about! Dance!
As explored extensively in other 🧵s, I believe that an economic reckoning is on the way when the reserve status of the $ is lost, the US can no longer borrow the money to pay for what the national standard of living is based upon, and standards of living plunge.
One of the very hardest hit sectors of the economy is urban women getting paid way too much for doing very little. The Kamala voters are likely to be devastated. And it will be the right & proper result of their turning presidential elections into female popularity contests. imo"
