Instagram deletes gay Muslim comic strip after Indonesia outrage - "Instagram on Wednesday (Feb 13) shut down an account that published comic strips about the struggles of a gay Muslim in Indonesia after it sparked a backlash in the world's biggest Islamic nation.The move comes after Indonesia's communications ministry sent a letter to the social media giant warning that the "pornographic" content violated an electronic information law... In October, an Indonesian man was arrested for running a Facebook page that catered to the gay community.Also last year, Google pulled Blued, one of the world's largest gay dating apps, from the Indonesian version of its online store in response to government demands."

As injuries hit record high, 80% of those hurt by deer in Nara Park are non-Japanese - "The number of people injured by wild deer at Nara Park, a major tourist attraction in the city of Nara, has hit a record high of 200 in the current fiscal year, with non-Japanese, many of them tourists, accounting for some 80 percent of those wounded... The more than 1,000 deer that roam the park are designated as national treasures, and visitors can feed them with special crackers. Many of the injuries are believed to have occurred when tourists tried to take photos of themselves feeding the animals, often while teasing them — such as by holding the crackers out of reach"

For example, they take greater risks and become more altruistic. We examine the possibility that men’s sexual motivation, when elicited, can influence their preference for meat because meat signals status to others, including women—and signalling status is one way to help men achieve their mating goals. We find support for this hypothesis in three studies involving consumption (Study 1) and preference (Studies 2 and 3) for meat. Men’s desire for status mediates their liking for meat. In contrast, when their sexual motivation system is activated, women like meat less, possibly since they pursue other strategies such as beauty and health to make themselves desirable to men. Thus, we suggest that evolutionary processes shape food preferences."

Colorado high school student wearing Nazi uniform beaten by black classmate - "The footage shows the black student walking towards the white student before apparently hitting him in the face and sending him tumbling to the ground. Then, a few seconds later, the white student is shown throwing a landscaping rock at the black student but missing... both students were arrested and charged with crimes. The black student was charged with assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct. The white student was charged with harassment, disorderly conduct and criminal attempt assault. He was not charged with a hate crime.The school said the white student did not sport any Nazi paraphernalia on his military green jacket. However, students said he was known for wearing Nazi regalia with that green jacket. The student’s Instagram account also features multiple photos of him wearing Nazi garb."

‘White guilt is failing black kids’ - "It is increasingly difficult to have free and frank conversations on these issues. Last weekend, Sunday Times columnist Rod Liddle was branded a ‘national disgrace’ after he suggested that absent fathers were to blame for rising knife crime... The key problem is that instead of addressing the ills of the education system, which is letting kids down, we shout at Oxbridge. But what can Oxbridge do? They cannot and should not lower their standards... The powers-that-be look at statistics and jump to conclusions. When there are more black boys in detention at a school, it is interpreted as a sign of racism. But maybe those boys deserved that detention? And if they don’t have any discipline they could spin out of control, they could fail their GCSEs and then they’re not going to be contenders for Oxbridge. All these things are connected... The people pushing the racism discourse don’t mean any harm, but they don’t realise how harmful it is for black kids to be constantly told ‘the world is racist, you’re never going to get ahead’. It gives children an excuse. One of the big things we pride ourselves on at Michaela is there are no excuses. We won’t let any children go around saying, ‘I’m a black boy from an estate with a single mum so I couldn’t possibly achieve’. The schools that have got all these children into Oxbridge show that if you look that nonsense in the eye, and insist that children can achieve when they are put in the right environment, then the sky is the limit... One reason kids join gangs is that they want to belong, they want to feel part of a family. This is where the question of absent fathers is relevant. But there are more levels of family you can find in society... But inner-city kids are denied access to all of these levels of family: their fathers aren’t there, the school is in chaos, their community is in chaos. And when it comes to their country, many people tell them their country is hostile to them or that they’re not really British, but they are as British as any white child... Nobody’s allowed to talk about knife crime. When Rod Liddle says what he says, you can disagree with him – I disagree, I think there are a whole host of factors at play. But I know that he and I could have a conversation about it and it would be interesting. However, there are a whole load of people who just want to shut these conversations down. It means that we never get to talk about the issues. And then who suffers in the end? The young black men killing each other. This is my world. I see it first hand. And I know I’ve had thousands of conversations over my career with these kids. And what’s really sad is most people commenting on this issue have no clue – they lead middle-class lives and are very detached.For me, the best thing that we can do for all of our inner-city kids, whether black or white, is get them off social media. It exacerbates all their problems."

Black Lives Matter leader charged with battery on a police officer - "Dr. Melina Abdullah — a California State University professor and a Black Lives Matter leader in Los Angeles — faces charges stemming from her anti-police activism... Abdullah shared a Facebook post Saturday, writing, "As folks may know, the Los Angeles City Attorney, Mike Feuer, is prosecuting me for protesting police brutality. This is about so much more than me. It's an attempt to criminalize Black protest. We ain't having that!"... After the pre-trial hearing, Abdullah demanded the gathering crowd march to LAPD headquarters to disrupt a police commission meeting."Fill up that room!" Abdullah cried. "Scare the s**t out of them!"Activists obliged, and marched to the headquarters. The commission meeting was ultimately adjourned after one of the demonstrators reportedly threatened physical violence against one of the officers in attendance"
