Australia 2011
Day 3 - 31st July - London Bridge (Part 6)
At the Twelve Apostles I asked a Belgian guy to help me take a picture, and he kept taking pictures with my head blocking one of them. Luckily his female companion knew what I wanted; usually my photographic results turn out the opposite.
I now feel quite cheated because I've just found out that there were only ever Nine Apostles, not Twelve (ahh, branding!) This nagged at me a little on the day. And now there're only Eight (one collapsed in 2005).
Next was London Bridge - or the rock formation called that, at any rate.
Except that it had already fallen down, in 1990.
What it used to look like
Before and After
Sign on the old bridge and how 2 people were marooned when it collapse. Rumour has it that it was a man and his adulterous lover, and his wife saw everything on TV.

Gratuitous sunset shots
I'm not sure why I took this sunset shot with the road
We were behind time because of various delays, so by the time we got to our dinner destination of Colac it was almost 7pm. The driver recommended a place called "Noodle Canteen", which served up Asian (or Asian-inspired, rather) dishes.
Interior. The older woman kept looking at me while I was taking these photos. Maybe she'd heard of STOMP.
There was some channel screening inside, and even the ads were subtitled.
The menu. I immediately zeroed in on: "Nasi Goreng. Fried rice, shrimp, BBQ pork, Egg & Vegetables, Secret chili & curry sauce". Yes, I know it was supposed to be a Noodle place, but Wok Skill is agnostic to noodle or rice grain. And I didn't feel like trying "char kuai teow"
Nasi Goreng with Babi (char siu).
The "secret chili & curry sauce" tasted like pepper. And there was celery inside?!
MR's choice of Udon Satay
Weird toilet sign from http://ooopic.com (down last I checked)
We then returned to Melbourne.
"Please be advised that if due to smoking in this room the Fire Brigade is called, the associated cost of fire trucks turning out will be passed on to the smoker concerned.
The current cost of fire trucks being called out is $438 per truck for each 15 minutes the truck is away from the fire station.
An emergency call is usually attended by a minimum of two to three trucks
i.e. Three trucks x 45 minutes is $3,942."
There were some amusing things on the noticeboard regarding safety.
The safety tips included "Tips on Safe Sex": "Drinking alcohol and taking other drugs may affect your ability to make safe decisions. If you tend not to use condoms after drinking alcohol or taking other drugs, it may be time to think about this and the risks involved". Alternatively, you can always blame the "victim"'s partner for not taking care of this (assuming he is not high too), but then the partner will typically be female, so in the end it's still his fault, as usual.
"If you are:
Drunk
Violent, or
Quarrelsome
you must leave the premises when asked"
"Quarrelsome" is a great, flexible adjective.
Australian Milo tins suggest that you can make Milo with cold milk. I wonder what cock wrote that - I couldn't get that to work.
The hot water had run out on the first night, so I finished quickly this night. Grr.
