My mom is still plenty with-it and these mistakes make her feel awful but there are signs in interacting with her that she's struggling in other places too.
My daughter doesn't acknowledge that being misgendered/deadnamed bothers her in the least but I also don't think she adequately understands what's happening with my mom cognitively and I'm afraid as this evolves it means either my dtr misses spending time with her gma in her last years or she spends time with a person who's inflicting harm, no matter how unintentionally, on her when she (my dtr) isn't yet emotionally able to cope with the complex situation.
To be clear: while it hurts to watch my mom probanly sabotaging her chances of having a relationship w her only grandchild, my priority is to do whatever is needed to help my daughter build an emotionally healthy life. I'll support my mom thru her anxiety & grief separately."

The daughter is supposedly mature and cognizant enough to swap genders and deal with all that entails but not mature enough to understand grandma isn't 100% anymore. Lady please this kid seems to be handling it just fine, I'm sure she can handle her loving and supportive grandma occassionally slipping up because of a mental condition beyond her control. We're supposed to be understanding of the 'unseen' conditions afterall, aren't we?
