Links - 5th August 2025 (2 - Migrants: USA: LA Insurrection)

Police arrest more than 20 people on first night of curfew aimed at protests in downtown Los Angeles - "Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared a local emergency and said the 8 p.m.-to-6 a.m. curfew is expected to last several days. “We reached a tipping point” after 23 businesses were looted, Bass said Tuesday... “unlawful and dangerous behavior” had been escalating since Saturday and that the curfew was needed to protect lives and property... The protests began Friday after federal immigration raids arrested dozens of workers in Los Angeles. Protesters blocked a major freeway and set cars on fire over the weekend, and police responded with tear gas, rubber bullets and flash-bang grenades... Los Angeles police made 197 arrests on Tuesday, including 67 who were occupying a freeway, according to the city's chief. The majority of arrests since the protests began have been for failing to disperse, while a few others were for assault with a deadly weapon, looting, vandalism and attempted murder for tossing a Molotov cocktail. At least seven police officers have been injured."
Weird. How come LA doesn't know that all the violence is caused by ICE agents?
This doesn't stop left wingers continuing to share memes pretending that the LA police are denying there's any violence

Newsom Trump fight won't save him from voters angry at hard-left agenda - "Newsom — after undertaking a calculated shift rightward — is back in full-left mode as Trump’s legally-elastic deportation plan faces a bona fide rebellion. It was barely four months ago that Newsom and Trump — the latter so disdainful of the former that he often referred to him as “Newscum” — were all smiles when the president touched down in California on his first official trip after re-entering the White House. Armed with wife Melania at his side, Trump was there to inspect the damage wrought by the catastrophic wildfires that left thousands homeless and both Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’ competence in grave doubt. The governor dutifully prostrated himself to his far more powerful — and popular — superior in a flurry of awkward air kisses and bear hugs as Air Force One loomed omnipotently in rear view. The optics could not have been clearer — California’s economy may be larger than both Germany and Japan, but Trump travels with the might of a nation behind him. And Newsom appeared to get the message — reversing some of his most progressively polarizing positions — such as supporting biological men in women’s sports — on his newly launched podcast which often features conservative voices. As Congressional enfant terribleAlexandra Ocasio-Cortez doubled-down on her progressive extremism during her Fighting Oligarchy tour with Bernie Sanders last month, Newsom appeared as the party’s most reasonable, likeable, electable adult in the room. But taking on Trump is a far different matter than challenging the fringes of his own party... California became the first state in the nation to provide undocumented immigrants with health insurance. Not only did this add $6.5 billion in costs to a state already facing a $12 billion budget deficit, such largesse fuelled the laissez-faire atmosphere that helped embolden the protesters now coursing through his streets. Meanwhile, Newsom has failed to deliver quality education, affordable housing, efficient public transport or safe streets to his legal, tax-paying residents. Even before the weekend riots, the Trump-Newsom detente was already crumbling. Back during his wildfires visit in January, Trump made clear that he expected Newsom to rebuild his state – and fast, leading Newsom to request some $40 billion in aid. That money has yet to materialize, prompting a frustrated Newsom to challenge a range of Trump policies, including tariffs, which the governor labeled the “poster child” of stupidity. Such moves were clearly aimed at reinvigorating — and hopefully expanding — Newsom’s skeptical progressive base as he aims for national office. But considering Trump votes increased in 57 out of 58 California counties during last November’s presidential election, that base may have already crumbled."

From LA to Gaza, With Violence: Palestinian Flags, Molotov Cocktails, and a Media Blackout - "amid all this coverage, one detail has been quietly omitted—or perhaps deliberately brushed aside: the unmistakable role of pro-Palestinian activists in the riots. Not merely present—but masked, vocal, and often leading the charge in the most violent flashpoints. Footage posted online shows rioters draped in keffiyehs and waving PLO flags as they attack police officers, torch cars and public property, and hurl Molotov cocktails. One particularly disturbing video shows a crowd gathered on a highway overpass, waving a massive Palestinian flag and pelting police cruisers below with rocks—many in the crowd wearing the traditional Palestinian head covering. In another image, a masked rioter wears a PFLP headband while hoisting a Mexican flag—a jarring emblem not of solidarity, but of how seamlessly the anti-Israel agenda has inserted itself into a protest about something else entirely. Activist leaders have not exactly been subtle about their intentions. Groups like Students for Justice in Palestine, the Palestinian Youth Movement, PAL-Awda, Within Our Lifetime, and others have openly called on their followers to join the protests, framing the unrest as part of a broader campaign to “globalize the intifada.” National SJP posted an image depicting Trump administration officials adorned with a swastika, labeling it “the Fourth Reich” and urging action. “We have a duty to resist oppression wherever it manifests: from the barrios of LA to the refugee camps of Bethlehem,” the group declared. “We will globalize the intifada.” Isra Hirsi, daughter of anti-Israel congresswoman Ilhan Omar and recently suspended from Columbia University over her role in violent campus protests, posted on Instagram: “From L.A. to Rafah, there is one common oppressor. Death to the colonial empire. Life for our children.” She also shared a screenshot reading, in all caps: “FUCK ICE!” She’s far from alone. Dozens of high-profile anti-Israel activists have used their platforms to encourage participation in the anti-ICE demonstrations. And yet, in the pages of major newspapers and the broadcasts of primetime news, you’d be forgiven for thinking none of this ever happened. Mentions of the Palestinian flag are fleeting. The presence of anti-Israel groups is buried or ignored entirely. CNN’s Shimon Prokupecz offered perhaps the most honest nod to reality when he observed that “people are holding signs saying ‘ICE out of New York City.’ We’ve seen flags of Mexico, we’ve seen the Palestinian flag”—before quickly moving on. Not one mainstream outlet has thought to investigate the deeper connections, to ask whether this is spontaneous grassroots outrage or something more orchestrated. Not one has paused to consider how a domestic protest about immigration raids morphed into yet another anti-Israel battleground. Because to acknowledge the truth—that a significant faction of these riots is being driven by activists who endorse violence, call for an intifada, and seek to destroy Israel and dismantle the United States—would disrupt the media’s preferred narrative: that this is a righteous uprising of marginalized communities reacting to injustice. So they don’t. Instead, they turn a blind eye, bury the lede, and pretend the keffiyehs, chants, and Molotov cocktails are just another expression of grassroots dissent."
The left wing agenda is all connected
Insurrection is good when you rebrand it as "resisting oppression"

California vice mayor calls for gangs to help protect communities from ICE raids - "The vice mayor of a small city in California is under fire after a social media video emerged in which she appears to call on local street gangs to stand up to raids on undocumented migrants by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Defence In a clip posted to Instagram and then swiftly deleted by Cynthia Gonzalez, Vice Mayor of Cudahy – which lies just southeast of Los Angeles – the politician says: “I want to know where all the cholos are at in Los Angeles – 18th Street, Florencia Where’s the leadership at?... The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reacted angrily to the video, reposting it on Tuesday evening with the statement: “The comments made by the Vice Mayor of Cudahy, CA, Cynthia Gonzalez, are despicable. She calls for criminal gangs – including the vicious 18th Street gang – to commit violence against our brave ICE law enforcement. “This kind of garbage has led to a more than 500 percent increase in assaults against our ICE law enforcement officers. Secretary [Kristi] Noem has been clear: If you assault a federal officer, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”"
It's only treason and contempt for rule of law, and attacking law enforcement is only wrong, when it hurts the left wing agenda

Police declare riot at Portland ICE facility, multiple arrests made - "Tense demonstrations outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Portland were declared a riot Saturday as federal officers once again faced off with protesters. Officers with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security detained at least one person after demonstrators used objects to break through a door at the building... after the “No Kings” demonstrations had largely concluded, protesters in Portland clashed with federal officers outside the ICE building. Groups chanted slogans and taunted officers, and at times threw objects — mostly water bottles and at least one rock — at the building. DHS officers shot crowd control munitions from the roof and from a driveway entrance to the facility, further escalating tensions as the protest continued into the evening... Portland police said they responded to the scene in part to guide emergency services into the building for a federal officer who said they had been injured... On the facade of the ICE building, demonstrators put up a sign that reads “Free OJM.” O-J-M is the pseudonym of an asylum seeker who was arrested by ICE officers on June 2. O-J-M, who is trans, was detained by federal officers at Portland Immigration Court"
Clearly the government is sending federal agents to attack other federal agents and federal buildings
This won't stop left wingers continuing to pretend that the police officers who supposedly died because of January 6th were heroes

Reporter who covered ICE raids now faces deportation: report - ""Online police records show Guevara was arrested by the Doraville Police Department and charged with obstruction of law enforcement, unlawful assembly, and pedestrian walking on or along a roadway," said the report."
If you don't let reporters riot, that is literally fascism

Meme - James Woods @RealJamesWoods: *Man waving Mexican flag beside burnt out car with "Fuck ICE" sprayed on it, with smoke in background* "Seriously if you’re so proud of your country that you’re willing to commit felonies celebrating it, why not return there voluntarily and happily?"

Amy Reichert on X - "As Los Angeles burns, here’s your reminder that the State of California @GavinNewsom sent armed law enforcement on December 10, 2021 to shut down a Christian preschool & strip its license forever with 100 kids because they wouldn’t force 2-year-olds to wear masks."

Charlie Kirk on X - "Los Angeles doesn’t feel like a protest. It feels like an entire city is declaring open rebellion to American authority and sovereignty. It was bound to come to a head in a corrupt blue city, but it must be firmly stopped and law and order reestablished. The American people voted for mass deportations after Biden’s open border. If we don’t succeed our nation will be permanently populated by foreigners, whether legal or illegal, who hate us and owe their true allegiance to another country. If someone loves another country more than America, they are here simply to leech off our economy, our culture, and our welfare. That is civilizational suicide. We are taking our country back, and that includes California."

Yes, LAPD declared 2025 ICE protests 'unlawful assembly' as seen in emergency alerts | Snopes.com
Left wingers kept claiming that even the LAPD (which is supposedly authoritarian) said there was no violence

Gavin Newsom on X - "You sent your troops here without fuel, food, water or a place to sleep. Here they are — being forced to sleep on the floor, piled on top of one another. If anyone is treating our troops disrespectfully, it is you @realDonaldTrump."
Guard in DC forced to sleep in garages, sparking outcry (January 2021)
Clearly, having had more time to prep after January 6th and it being winter didn't mean anything. Not to mention he has no idea what military conditions are like at all

LA mayor blames Trump for starting riots while claiming things are 'peaceful' - "Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass blamed the Trump administration's Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations for starting the riots that exploded over the weekend, while claiming "things in L.A. are calm"... "I just have to say that if you dial back time and go to Friday, if immigration raids had not happened here, we would not have the disorder that went on last night," Bass told CNN’s "Situation Room" co-host Pamela Brown. "I will tell you that it is peaceful now, but we do not know where and when the next raids will be." Bass went on to argue that the government, by enforcing immigration law, will continue to incite protesters."
Enforcing the law is incitement. So much for nobody being above the law

Unlawful assembly declared in downtown LA as protests escalate - "Rising unrest saw a major freeway blocked and a row of self-driving cars set on fire as law enforcement used tear gas, rubber bullets and flash bangs to control the crowd... A row of self-driving Waymo vehicles - that serve as taxis in LA - had their tyres slashed, windows smashed and exteriors spray painted before they were torched by protesters. Multiple patrol vehicles blocking a highway were damaged when protesters hurled objects - including E-scooters - at them. Fires were started across the city as protesters lit large fireworks. Several businesses reported looting late in the night, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said. Many downtown streets were littered with debris, glass, cinder blocks and burn marks. Buildings were covered in new graffiti, much of which contained graphic language against immigration enforcement."
Left wingers (e.g. on George Takei's Facebook) are still trying to gaslight. Some claimed that ICE was the one being violent, e.g. that their flashbangs were what set the cars on fire

Jarvis on X - "There are no riots. And the riots are good. And the riots are bad and Trump’s fault. And you must believe all three of these things at the same time or you’re a fascist."

Magills on X - "“Hey, the Right has spent 2 weeks kicking themselves in the balls. What should we do?”
“Let’s burn down LA. There’s no way that will make them put aside their disagreements and focus on a singular enemy.”
“Love it. Make sure everyone is carrying a flag from a foreign nation.”"

Brian Allen on X - "🚨 #BREAKING: Stephen Miller is now calling the anti-ICE uprising in Los Angeles “an insurrection against U.S. sovereignty.” Let’s be clear: over 800 protesters cornered federal agents in a garage, breached a government building, and caused widespread damage. This isn’t just chaos, it’s a full-blown standoff. Miller is demanding National Guard deployment and federal arrests. The stakes just got raised. 📹 @AnthonyCabassa_"
Weird. Left wingers are still claiming that the police officers who supposedly died due to January 6th are heroes and that attacking police officers is a horendous atrocity. Their programming is slow to update

Wall Street Apes on X - "LIVE HAPPENING NOW FBI agents have strobe lights shined in their faces as people shout “Get the f*ck out of here” and chant in Spanish They are trying to blind FBI agents by shining lights and strobes directly into their eyes. Even threatening violence against them"

Jack on X - "So, someone explain this to me like I’m 2 years old… Why are they waving Mexico’s flag all over the place while protesting against people being deported to Mexico? I don’t get it."

DeVory Darkins on X - "Dana Bash defends the LA rioters as Senator Markwayne Mullin pushes back and advocates for law and order.
MULLIN: "They were literally out there protesting, carrying a foreign flag. That is absolutely insane. I mean, they're not just peaceful protesters. These are illegals. These are exactly why the president is trying to secure our border."
BASH: "Well, carrying a flag is is not illegal."
MULLIN: "Carrying a foreign flag while you're attacking law enforcement? It's pretty bad.""

Nick Sortor on X - "🚨 JUST IN: Rep. Maxine Waters just demanded the United States give CITIZENSHIP to illegal rioters in Los Angeles SHE JUST EXPOSED THE PLOT. Democrats are IMPORTING VOTERS."

Libs of TikTok on X - "Rioters are now looting stores in LA. Meanwhile:
- Gavin Newsom says he has everything under control
- Police say it’s all peaceful
- Mayor Karen Bass says she will protect illegals
- CNN says it’s a lawful protest"

Right Angle News Network on X - "BREAKING - Rep. Maxine Waters has just attempted to break into the Los Angeles Federal Building to “check on” union leader David Huerta, holding the door open against a federal officer’s orders while citing her “congressional authority” to do so."

Thread by @BillMelugin_ on Thread Reader App – Thread Reader App - "BREAKING: Federal sources ID some of the criminal illegal alien targets ICE arrested in their LA operation yesterday & today, which sparked violent protests. They include multiple gang members, convicted sex offenders, violent gun offenders, & drug offenders. One has already been deported. They include: Rolando Veneracion-Enriquez, a national of the Philippines who has prior convictions for sexual penetration with a foreign object, assault with intent to commit rape, and burglary, all in California. ARMANDO ORDAZ, a Mexican national & known gang member with a convictions for sexual battery, receiving stolen property, and theft in Los Angeles. VICTOR MENDOZA-AGUILAR, a previously deported Mexican national & known gang member with convictions for assault with a deadly weapon, and possessing drug paraphernalia. DELFINO AGUILAR MARTINEZ, a Mexican national with a conviction for assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury in LA.
MORE: Jesus Alan HERNANDEZ-Morales, a Mexican national & aggravated felon with prior conviction for conspiracy to transport an illegal alien. He was deported today. Jose Gregorio MEDRANDA Ortiz, an Ecuadorean national with convictions for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 5 kilos of cocaine on a vessel in Florida. Lionel SANCHEZ-Laguna, a Mexican national with convictions for firing a gun at an occupied dwelling in OC, battery on spouse, willful child cruelty in OC, DUI in OC, and assault with firearm in OC. He has had a deportation order since 2020."

Matt Walsh on X - "The Left got away with mass rioting in 2020. That's why it's happening again. The only solution is to treat them like the terrorists they are. Use overwhelming force to put down the riots. Charge and convict the rioters and send them to prison for years. Ruin their lives. Show no mercy. Make an example of them. This is how you maintain a just and orderly society. The other option is anarchy."

The LA Riots Are a Warning To Europe - "The scenes coming out of the Californian city are like something from a warzone. Driverless taxis have been torched. Businesses have been looted. Police vehicles were attacked with cinder blocks. Officers have had Molotov cocktails hurled at them. American flags are being burned, and Mexican flags being brandished by protestors... All this was sparked by the fact that Trump has decided to enforce existing immigration laws... Of course, Trump has been roundly blamed for causing the riots, for daring to actually police America’s borders—unlike the Democrats, who under the Biden administration let in around 10 million illegal aliens. That’s not to say that the kind of mass deportations we’re seeing under Trump is somehow unique. Barack Obama deported and removed more migrants during his two terms as president than any previous president except Bill Clinton. Of course, no one rioted about this at the time. Nor are Trump’s deportations unpopular with Americans. For starters, he was elected on a platform based largely around halting Biden’s de facto open borders policy. Recent polling also shows that a majority are in favour of deportations, even if they disagree on just how far ICE agents should go. As much as the Democrats and large sections of the mainstream media would like it to be the case, the LA riots are not the fault of Trump. They are not a valiant response to an authoritarian crackdown against innocent people, as some have tried to claim. The widespread violence is rather the inevitable reaction to the open-borders lie. It is the consequence of a sustained, decades-long campaign by the political, media, and cultural classes that asserted that every single person in the world has an inalienable right to enter and settle in the U.S. That same fiction has been repeated all across the West. In Europe, we are told that the most noble and virtuous thing we can do is to ‘welcome refugees’ with open arms—even when those refugees are dangerous criminals. Even when those refugees refuse to integrate. Even when those refugees make it more difficult for states to help their own people. And even when those refugees turn out to not even be refugees at all. The belief that borders are an inherently evil concept, a project constructed purely out of exclusionary or supremacist notions, is now so widely held that even the most basic attempts to police who enters our countries are met with cries of ‘fascist!’ or ‘racist!’. If and when our politicians do decide to start seriously policing borders, they will be met with significant, potentially destabilising, resistance. We see this already in some nations where governments have been elected on a mandate of cutting migration and then attempt to carry that out. Thankfully, the pushback has so far been primarily legal, coming from within the state or from supra-state authorities rather than from violent protesters. In Germany, the centre-right Christian Democrats (CDU) won February’s federal elections partially based on the promise that it would finally control Germany’s borders. Then, when CDU chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that he intended to start turning asylum seekers away, this was halted by a Berlin court earlier this month. The fact that Germans had elected Merz to fulfil this promise was apparently unimportant for the unelected judges in Berlin. The situation is similar in the UK, where, despite the popularity of deporting foreign criminals, the state is routinely prevented from sending even the most heinous characters home by the ECHR. In the long run, the opposition won’t just come from the courts, though. Already, we are seeing large-scale, mostly non-violent protests across the continent in favour of open borders. Parts of some European cities with large immigrant populations are already verging on ungovernable. In December last year, Paris saw hundreds of illegal migrants—mostly from West Africa—occupying the Gaîté Lyrique theatre, demanding housing and legal papers. The standoff lasted a whole three months and ended only after riot police forcibly removed the occupants in March. In Germany, the situation is dire, too. In 2018, around 200 African migrants at an asylum centre in Ellwangen, Baden-Württemberg, physically prevented the deportation of a man from Togo. The police were outnumbered to the point they had to withdraw from the centre and return three days later with hundreds of armed officers to re-establish control. Then, in 2022, a similar incident took place in the Spanish enclave of Melilla, in North Africa. Almost 2,000 migrants, mostly from sub-Saharan Africa, attempted to storm the heavily fortified border separating Melilla from Morocco—the only land border between Africa and the EU. This quickly descended into chaos, as people were crushed in a stampede. The incident left 23 migrants dead, and hundreds injured. Europe need not guess where this all leads. The LA riots show what happens when states lose the ability, or the will, to enforce their own laws. When migration policy is decided not by voters or even elected officials, but by activist judges and violent mobs, the result will always be lawlessness. The more this persists, the more brittle the social contract becomes. Then, all it takes is the arrest or attempted deportation of a single individual for large-scale unrest to erupt. If LA is America sneezing, Europe is in for one hell of an outbreak."

Dave Rubin on X - "If the protests are peaceful as the Dems and media keep telling us, then why are people boarding up their stores in LA? It’s almost as if everything they say is a lie."
Peter Boghossian on X - "Assume for a moment they are not lying. Assume they believe assaulting people, torching cars, looting, throwing rocks from overpasses onto vehicles below, etc., is “peaceful”. Which is morally worse, lying about what’s happening or believing what’s happening is peaceful?"
Clearly, shopkeepers in LA have been propagandised by watching Fox News and don't know what the reality of the peaceful protests are

Asian Dawn on X - "Yes, they hate ICE, so let's burn multiple Waymos"
