Singapore in National Geographic

"I think that somehow, we learn who we really are and then live with that decision." - Eleanor Roosevelt

HDB - public housing in Singapore - National Geographic Photo Contest 2011:

"HDB flats. The name - uninspired, uninviting.

Their promise of the joy that comes with owning your own home stolen by its resemblence to a cage; metal grilles on every window and the front door. Why are we so afraid in a city with no crime?

Jostling for space in a congested city. Behind every other window the fading memories of the old generation who grew up in some village in rural China or India. A home they never saw again."
