"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no use being a damn fool about it." - W.C. Fields

Someone on Miss Veet 2008: wtf, lol
SG girls have horrible legs la

best legs in SG ?

seriously
that's fucking stupid

legs contest in taiwan
now ....
that would work !

u would find nicer legs in ximending then the whole of singapore

Me: btw
if you think I don't like you why do you keep asking me for my opinions on things?

LDPVTP: i am always reassured by your constant negative opinion
which, although negative, has hardly ever crossed the line into insanity

Me: you never fail to remind me of why you're LDPVTP

LDPVTP: mm
yeah, well. your opinion is the lower limit of uncertainty.

Someone: i can't imagine a sensible conversation about politics in chinese

Me: maybe you just don't have the vocabulary

Someone: i mean, the language itself seems to lack certain words and concepts

channel U has this program where they invite singaporeans to debate/discuss certain issues
i think watching even 1 minute of it lowers my IQ by 50%

Me: that's just singapore
haha

Someone: the manner in which we use language, the poverty of vocabulary, the unthinking manner in which certain terms are used, the preconceived notions that are never questioned and bandied about, talked about, used, disgust me.

not that other countries don't have these (e.g. in the U.S. they have the Bush doctrine and "The American people" and The War Against Terror)

I just wonder how can people stand watching such "intellectual" programs, thinking that's active citizenry, civic participation, "questioning the status quo", "speaking up"

Me: what does that have to do with the Chinese language

Someone: because the program on channel U is hosted in mandarin

Me: that just means singaporeans are idiots
not that mandarin is not suitable

Someone: the bastardized vulgar chinese vernacular spoken by Singaporeans just reinforces the existing political ideology

Me: so it's not the fault of the chinese language
but the chinese spoken by singaporeans

Frigid Girl: on top of not knowing that handel's messiah is in english, i got the shock of my life today when i found out that carmen was in french

Me: ... you suck

what language did you think the two were in

Frigid Girl: german
HAhhAhahA

or italian

for handel i thought german
for bizet i thought italian

HWMNBN: i'm reading Yeats' Stolen Child (no not an AI homage)

it's really sad. why must the world be such a brutal harsh place
why can't it be as simple and nice as idiots like *** see it

*** says:
cause fuckers like u make it so

nw.t. says:
*slightly taken aback* you really think so?

well. *sighs* only as good as [the world lets me].

Me: blow up the CPF building for Ted

HWMNBN: Ted Sprague?

Me: Kaczynski

HWMNBN: cheh

Someone: i suspect my boss is a little piqued i went over his head
but. *shrugs* i got to look out for my own interests

Me: if you went over his head won't it poison your working relationship next time

Someone: although my boss is a despicable scumbag
i've come to realise he doesn't take this sort of thing personally

it's a "well played.. until the next time" thing with him

my colleague says that he's a good guy but a bad boss

Me: ah
basically he's not a woman lah

Someone: yes

although ironically
my women bosses were better than him as bosses

Someone else: it's not too hard to realize that "malay" is about as useless and misleading (problematic) a concept as "chinese" and "indian"
"european"

Me: everything is problematic

Someone else: who is a chinese? cantonese? tibetan? mongolian?
indian? pakistani, punjabi, bangladesh etc

Me: like races these are not fixed categories
but rough groupings

Someone else: yeah, it isn't hard to just take some effort to get this straight/clear, but i keep hearing these stuff

"oh, i went to europe"
"I went to china"
"I went to India"

which part?, where?

"I had indian food"
what is indian??

it's quite sickening to have to endure such conversations

Me: you dont think there's such a thing as indian food?

Someone else: indian cuisine is a more plausible term

Me: ... what's the difference between food and cuisine?

Someone else: haha ok

it seems to me cuisine is a term that more clearly acknowledges local variations
food is a more "all or none" term
the effect on thinking

Me: ...
I think you've been reading too much literary theory

Someone else: food is just material ingested and digested by the body

cuisine includes the manner of preparation
style of presentation
and other details

if you use this word it reminds you it's not just stuff you gobble

HWMNBN: friend: "iran is a feminist"
"look at the way they're handling the nuke issue"

they want everything, prattle on about inconsistencies, alternate between shrill violence and pseudo-reasonable stalling,

all the while pursuing their agenda by creep
and dividing their various interlocutors

the irony of their ultimate outcome being the use of phallic weapons of mass destruction to hold the world in thrall

Me: well I had 2 friends over last night
had pork schnitzel and home made fries and salad

Someone: zomg
sounds good.

your friends were er, the schnitzel right.
*weren't

Me: ....
the girl had too little fat to be a good cut

Someone: awww.

Me: you're much more suitable though

Someone: i was afraid you might say that
hence my apprehension at going to your kitchen.

Someone else: so when ar eu inviting me with all those chicks

Me: BYO
HAHA

Someone else: haha
dion't havehaha

Me: so sad

Someone else: of coz
i am not charming like u babe

Me: HURR HURR
