"She was a woman who, between courses, could be graceful with her elbows on the table." - Henry James

***

Pictures from July till today:

Hum Sup Guy aka "I Don't Eat A Lot"'s feast (9:20am till noon):

3 plates of raw fish

Half a bowl of fish porridge

Duck drumstick and thigh, Sio bak (shared with me)

Fish head (rather, Head + 1/3 the fish) - he made me eat a morsel so he could say he shared it with me

Sotong Ball soup (I had 1-2)

He spends as much on hawker food as I do at a restaurant.

"The NUS Christian Community Welcomes You" - the three Protestant Christian groups are represented, but not the three Catholic groups. Hurr hurr.

"Your happiness is our success. Express Employment Service Centre. Indonesia/Filipino maid"
Considering the vague slogan and that the woman is holding up a baby, maybe they want you to get your maid pregnant.

SMRT: "Moving People, Enhancing Lives"
It sounds even more silly than “Unleashing Minds, Transforming Lives”

National Day Dinner: Muslim food is cheaper than Chinese food. Maybe there's no Shark's Fin.

Keep J Co donuts at up to -18 degrees celsius (has anyone ever tried this?)

Food For Thought cafe: "please, NO vulgarities"
Uhh..........

The fauna you see when working next to a forest

"we cooked with less salt and less msg" - I don't know about now. Stay away from Sheares supper.

What you get when you use the toilet in the Sultan of Brunei's hotel - a sign you can't read

"Yes' Hey, june!! Didn't you see my panty and brassiere? well....Is that yours? NO! How about this one? it's mine!! My underwear!! why don't go to yes? yes? yes!! yes Let's go to yes!!!!"
This Enkrish at Cine is even more bizarre than Groovy Disgusting Chick.

The largest soft shell crab I've ever seen (no, not the bunny)

"No resting or sleeping in public places. 1st offence [??? fine]"
Poor construction workers

Chickens sunning at Toa Payoh

Nerding out!

"We will not be accepting 5 cent coin anymore"
Since they're still legal tender, I'm sure a complaint can be lodged against the Disgusting Lizard cafe

"I saw how skinny and haggard I was becoming... food tastes better these days!"
How not to get girls to quit smoking

I've officially written off Glutton's Bay. Not only do they have the worst fried rice I've ever tasted, the White Cai Tao Kway was similarly bad (it was like an omelette with the flour bits inside - not crispy at all). And they ran out of lime for the Chicken Wings (which were mediocre). I think it says something that despite the place being set up by Makansutra, only one stall (Satay) has a Makansutra certificate (and even then I'm informed it's gone down in quality - maybe that's why the cert is to old and battered)

"Mister Potato is made from 100% Imported Potatoes for Crunchier and Tastier chips"
It's made in Malaysia. No surprise.

"Can you love your enemies? God did and still does" - Church near YMCA
"The wrath of God is a thing of terror... the biblical commands and wiping out of peoples [are] acts of justice, punishment, demonstrations of holiness, all of which are good... God is terrible in his wrath because he is perfect in his holiness... Just get right with him and he won't destroy you." - A Christian
"If this is Love, I don't want to know what Hate is." - Me

Great ad at Raffles City. The 2 Chinese girls look delighted despite (or perhaps because of) their having to share a (half-)Ang Moh. I'm sure he's up to the challenge of handling both of them.
Someone asked if they were twins.

"We wish to assure you that all bakery products at BreadTalk do not contain dairy ingredients that are imported from China and sourced from Australia, New Zealand and Europe" - that's gotten me off BreadTalk
BreadTalk grammar FAIL despite Toastbox having the right wording. They need to get the same guy to do both next time.

Greeting card shop encouraging unnatural relationships, tsk tsk

Oden. I estimate a similar selection would've cost half of my 1150Y Oden. Stupid Oden auntie.

"Seafood we sell, a story we tell:

Back in the good old days
Our grandma had a stall
a stall without a name
She cooked her way to fame

From the Hokkien Steamed Fish
To the White Pepper Crab dish
From a stall without a name
it's No Signboard stall it became

Since the good old days when our
grandma had one stall
No-Signboard Seafood now has grown even more
It's the same nostalgic taste
Good food, nice place"

No Signboard restaurant poetry. Ugh. Notice it doesn't end off:

"It's the same nostalgic taste
Good price, nice place"

"Mobile Quitting CCP Service Center"
Falungong crap
