"One of the first duties of the physician is to educate the masses not to take medicine." - Sir William Osler

Andrew Lloyd Webber offers free tickets to redundant bankers - "Mr Lloyd Webber said: "Both The Sound of Music and Joseph are feel-good shows and I thought that free tickets might offer some respite, albeit for a couple of hours, for some of those people who have sadly lost their jobs in the current economic upheaval."

What's wrong with eating dogs? - "Everybody wants to show that he's civilized by condemning the eating of dogs. There's only one problem: Nobody can explain why it's wrong. In fact, on closer examination, the arguments against dog-eating turn out to be creepier than dog-eating itself... There's more than a whiff of cultural supremacy, if not racism, in French attacks on Korean dog-eating... The last time organizers of a global sporting event removed an "unsightly" presence from their city, that presence was the homeless people of Atlanta. If FIFA and other carnivorous arbiters of civilization want to tell Koreans what to eat, they'll have to come up with a better reason than that."

US judge rejects saggy jeans law - "The 17-year-old spent a night in jail after police arrested him for exposing 4in (10cm) of boxer shorts in Riviera Beach, south-east Florida... civil liberties groups say such laws will unfairly target young African-Americans."
Lucky this wasn't a woman, or hell would be raised.

An amazing economics experiment and how it got field workers to pick a lot more fruit - "The researchers found that managers tended to do their friends favors by assigning them the easiest rows... The researchers responded by linking managers' pay to the daily harvest. The result was that managers started favoring the best workers rather than their own friends, and productivity rose by another 20 percent... They proposed a "tournament" scheme in which workers were allowed to sort themselves into teams. Initially, friends tended to group themselves together, but as the economists began to publish league tables and then hand out prizes to the most productive teams, that changed."

Arlington Woman Finds Virgin Mary On Grape - ""I thought this stuff just happened to Catholics?" she said. "Mom and I had a laugh about it at first, seeing as how we're Baptists and all and we generally don't expect to see holy people popping up in our foodstuffs.""
Someone should show her The Madonna Code (it got mirrored! Yay!)

Screw the sudafed: When your nose ain't great, masturbate! - "I'm starting to think it must be a LOT of fun to be the editor of the Journal of Medical Hypotheses. First there was the one about groaning and hyperventilation decreasing blood to the cortex and enhancing the sexual experience, and now this... Zarrintan, S "Ejaculation as a potential treatment of nasal congestion in mature males" The Journal of Medical Hypotheses, 71(2), 2008... The emission phase of ejaculation is under the control of the sympathetic nervous system, which of course has lots of adrenergic receptors. The author reasons that ejaculation will stimulation adrenergic receptors in the refractory period immediately afterward, and stimulation of your adrenergic receptors will give you relief from your cold."

English teachers are wanted... - "Qualifications: female, white, english. Job Description: Speak decent and standard English with healthy body, 1100RMB tourist subsidy each year."
Maybe it's a prostitution ring.

Women take 65min to get ready
"The preparation routine will involve 15 minutes in the bath or shower, 21 minutes doing their hair,17 minutes trying on outfits and 12 minutes applying make-up. The survey also found that merely planning the big night out will have involved four phone calls totalling around 55 minutes... Once out and about, women will spend a further 29 minutes fixing their hair and make-up in the lavatory of the venue."

Hawking unveils 'strangest clock' - "Dubbed the strangest clock in the world, it features a giant grasshopper and has 60 slits cut into its face which light up to show the time. Its creator John Taylor said he "wanted to make timekeeping interesting"... The grasshopper or "chronophage", meaning "time eater", advances around the 4ft-wide face, each step marking a second. Its movement triggers blue flashing lights which travel across the face eventually stopping at the correct hour and minute. But the clock is only accurate once every five minutes - the rest of the time the lights are simply for decoration. "
!@#$. A clock that is almost never accurate. Very good.

An Analysis of Hours Worked by Dentists: the Impact of Gender and Other Factors - "Women in the sample were younger than men (38 versus 45 years). Multivariate regression analyses found that controlling for other factors, Women dentists worked on average 4.8 fewer hours per week than men (p-value < .05). In the logistic regression models, gender was a significant predictor of working part time (women > men), and working over time (women < men). Age is another variable with statistical significance across the models. Younger dentists were less likely to work part time, and more likely to work overtime. Gender and age remained significant in models that included the presence of children. Regression analyses run separately for men and women showed effect differences across gender in that women with children worked substantially fewer hours and were more likely to work part time, while men with children had an increased likelihood of working overtime."
