"All general statements are false." - Unknown, The Ultimate Law

***

Starhub's website sucks. It has tons of broken links and lots of quirks (just try comparing 2 mobile phones side by side, for example). No wonder people get fedup and call their Customer Service line instead. Ironic, considering that it costs them a lot more to service each customer via the hotline instead of online.

I don't know why people like to talk about a "moderate majority" as opposed to a "radical fringe". By definition, the majority's beliefs become normal and that from which deviation is measured. Talking about a "moderate majority" is thus a tautology.

I've never trusted "Certificate of Award for the Fine Culinary Skill" (sic) as an accurate indicator of delightful victuals, since the certifying authority ("Singapore Food Map") has no established reputation. My doubts were further confirmed after trying some Takoyaki with the award (the same stall also sold so-called okonomiyaki which looked like carrot cake, but I was hungry). The takoyaki was one of the lousier ones I'd had in Singapore - and it didn't even come with bonito flakes!

"Emotional intelligence is just another "straw man" that has gone nowhere. It has been dismissed by most researchers because it has not been validated. That is, until it passes muster in peer reviewed journals, it has no standing. And to date, Goleman has made no attempt to convince "psychologists" but has instead "popularized" his ideas outside of academic journals. It is just more pseudoscience and has been thrown out of courts because it lacks scientific validity." (from: Comments and refutations on "The Myth of Intelligence", which has many good points about the nonsense that is the politically correct consensus on intelligence)

"Gokkun" is a genre distinct from "Bukkake". Damn Japs.

In dance they teach you how to flick your hair. Hah.

The belief that "cute" means "ugly but adorable" seems to be a peculiarly Singaporean urban legend, going by the Google search results. I can find no evidence in dictionaries (including the OED) that this is the case.

Overheard, another entry in "how Singaporeans mangle both English and Mandarin": "你不是觉得很 stupid". Acidflask speculated that lines like "来,我们玩 game" could be excused by the principle of using less syllables, though he was at a loss to explain lines like "今天的 weather 很好" (since it didn't save any). And with this new monstrosity we have additional syllables.

Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is valuable and everything.
However just imagine if you added some great graphics or video clips to give your posts more, "pop"!
Your content is excellent but with images and clips, this blog could undeniably be one of the most beneficial
    in its field. Awesome blog!
