Japan trip
Day 4 - 9th June - Kamigamo Jinja, Kyoto
(Part 3)

Next was Kamigamo Jinja, dating from the 7th century, one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan.

The ema were all in Jap, so the shrine was probably quite a hardcore place. I would've spoiled the market, but see below.

Stream

The 2006 Lonely Planet had claimed that this place closed at 5:30 - later than Kinkakuji and Ryoanji, which was why I left this place till last. However, when I arrived at 4 they had just closed. Business must be bad.

Forest

Shrine with moss roof

Closing up at Japanese shrines must be a bitch - you must lock all of doors on the mini-shrines.

Small stones under a roof

Big rock

Big tree

Huge dog. She must have a hard time controlling it when it strains against the leash.

Calpis Black Bean Black Tea drink
Ugh. I expected it to be sweet. I guess all non-Western-style tea in Japan is not sweet.

Many bus drivers in Kyoto turned off their engines when stopping at traffic lights, and some even turned them off at bus stops. Maybe it was to save fuel.
